Hello,
is there a possibility to exchange some files between my Orbit 2 and my Macbook (OS X 10.4)? I tried to use a computer-to-computer network but couldn't get it working. So can anyone help me please? Unfortunately I'm new to Apple and Windows Mobile. So please be very precise when you describe what I have to do (think about a DAU² ).
Ah yes: I don't want to synchronise anything (like adresses or so), just wanna exchange some music/videoclips via wifi (hope this is faster than bluetooth where I only get ~100kb/s). Thank you very much!
Hi, I have just started to use SyncMate which is free to sync my iTunes music library on my Mac with my TyTN II. It works really well but I have been using a USB rather than WiFi connection. The program does support WiFi though.
You can download the software from
http://blog.eltima.com/2008/01/sync-your-mac-and-a-smartphone-with-syncmate.html
Although this is sync software it should also be able to do what you want as you can Sync a folder on your Mac with a folder on your phone which will enable you to transfer files to and fro.
Good luck and be interested to hear if the WiFi sync works!
if boths were connected to the wifi router it would be a matter of setting up normal filesharing like between 2 computers
if otherwise one would have to do it as adhoc network
but i dont know how these things are handled on macs
on pc's it the pc sharing would have to be running the server service
and have the pda as a user with reading and writing rights
And BT ? or MissingSync
I have an old iMac and I made some ringtones. I sent them by BT with no problem. I dropped Syncmate cause I got some issues with the calendars and the contacts. MissingSync is perfect but not free. You can install whatever but you need a cable. Will try to check the WiFi
Yes, with bluetooth I managed to send some files. But speed was not that fantastic (~100kb/s). So I'll try to get it working with Wifi. Maybe speed there is better. I got my device recognized by the Macbook and an IP was sent to my phone but I don't know how to access to files. Unfortunately I have no time for the next two weeks to test it any further. Please post your efforts if you have success. Thanks!
So, I already got what I want (even better). I found the freeware MochaSoft FTP-Server. This software has to be installed on your PDA. It youses the FTP-Protokoll. Therefore it lets your PDA act as an FTP-Server. All you need then is an Internet Browser, which has an FTP-Client (for example Internet Explorer or you use the fireftp-extension for Firefox). Now you can access your PDA and exchange files via Wifi. Speed is much better than Bluetooth (~700kb/s read and 680kb/s write). The good thing is, that you aren't limited to the platform anymore. (I don't know if the standard Linux browser has an ftp-client, but my beloved Firefox has a Linux-Version too.)
P.S. @linux-users: Please don't kill me for my last sentence. I believe that linux is able to handle these things out of the box. It's more for us windows users to know that it's possible.

Hi I am having a problem accessing my pc from my pocket pc XDA 2i. I can access fine from a "normal" pc with no problems. From the XDA I can log in, then pick the remote pc from the my computers list, then enter my password and username, but the next page which would normally be the desk top, is a page showing the logmein free logo the name of the remote pc, a copyright notice, and an option to end the remote session. I cannot get any further than that !............hope you can help...........Thank you.
P.S. I am running NetFront 3.3 browser

Try it from Pocket Internet Explorer.
Hi, I have tried it with Internet Explorer, and I get the same result
I have e-mailed LogMeIn support 7 days ago but still no answer
I've tried as well on my treo 750 and am having the same problem. I thought I read somewhere that the current version of logmein is not compatible with WM5. It works great between my computer at work and home though.

It's comptible with WM5 as is also pointed out in the Remote Desktop Access Bible ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288506 ).
I've tried everything and cannot seem to get logmein to work. I log in to the website and then enter the login and password for my desktop computer and all I get is a screen showing the version of window I am using along with some memory usage bars. I can restart or my computer remotely, but that is all I seem to be allowed to do. As I mentioned before I don't have any problems accessing my computer from other desktop computers. One thing I have found is Z2 remote access. It's a bit slow, but works pretty well. The only thing is that it is not free, but it is only a one time fee for the software.
I'm thinking that this might me a browser issue. At least for me. If I use minimo I can at least get to the page that says remote control and end remote session. However when i click on it ends up going to a blank screen with nothing there. Can anyone who has this working tell me what their registry setting are for PIE, as far as showing it to be a PPC app rather than IE5. I think that I've modified it a few time and don't know what the default settings ar.
Hi There is no line saying "Remote Control" unfortunatley
Hi I tried modifying the settings, now its gone very strange, when I select my computer I know get connected to Remotely Anywhere, then a page showing text saying Windows XP, cpu load (No percent shown), Memory load ( no persent shown), Main menu, Reboot, end remote session. But I dont have a remotely anywhere account....very weird
Hey 600bhp. You might want to check on the logmein.com forums. There are two threads. One is titled " Problems accessing via pocket pc" and the other is " Why is Pocket PC no longer supported?" It would seem that logmein does not support ppc's for some reason if you downloaded it after 02/20. logmein is aware of the problem and apparently working on it.
LogMeIn Cab File for Pocket PC
I have been having a lot of the same issues. I have a PRO account so I called technical support. They sent me the following file. I've been connecting like a champ ever since. I use the bleeding edge beta version on my PC. This file also works with the regular version.

Anyway if it's the same then I agree works perfectly.

Are you TREO 750 owners still having issues? I'd like to know as I was
thinking of trying the 750 but need LMI for sure!
I know one this for sure the OPERA browser on PPC (WM5) will just go in loops, so LMI is the only thing I use IE for on my WM5 device(s).
Having have said that if the IE is somehow custom on the Treo 750? Could that be it??
logmein access issue
I'm using my HTC p3600 and trying to download the remote access client sw no chance to obtain it, dwl stopped.
can I download your "ractrice.cab" file and install it directly into mobile device?
I'm experiencing a problem doing it ( unsuccesful installation ) ...
please help me
Thanks

I have a Treo 750 with the official ATT WM6 rom. I cant get logme in to work either. Here's what happens.
1) I visit http://logmein.com via pocket IE
2) I get redirected to http://secure.logmein.com/pda
3) I log in with my email address and password
4) I'm presented with "My Computers" and I click on a hyper link of one.
5) I'm asked to download RACtrlCE.cab
6) I save and install to main memory
7) I click the continue link on IE
8) I'm asked to log in again
9) I'm presented with "My Computers" again
10) I pick one, I'm asked to log in again!!!
11) I see "My Computers" again (endless loop)
What's wrong??
Gotomypc worked great when I used to have a free account through my work. Why doesnt logmein work on my pda?
update
I uninsatlled the RACtrlCE.cab via remove programs
I installed the ractrlce.cab from page two of this thread
I tested logmein.com on my treo. When it asked to download and insatll RACtrlCE.cab I clicked cancel to force it to use the other package. (no luck) Ok so I let it upgrade. It uninstalled ractrlce and installed the one directly from logmein once again.
It seems I can get further now for some reason but I'm still not connecting. Here's what I see now. I get redirected to the following url and the page has the following info:
http://asterisk.app53.logmein.com

Hi. I have a Mac & running on operating system OSX 10.6.6 and will be purchasing the Galaxy S 4G soon. I need to know if anyone on here know or has in fact synchronizing the Galaxy S with their Mac and if yes how compatible/synchronized the Galaxy S 4G is with Mac computers? Please write me if you can help clear my last question before making a purchase on this super cool phone.
I don't have an issue with my GS4G and 10.6.6. When I plug up my phone I can move files to and from the sdcard. I also have pdanet running with no problems. However, it seems like everytime I connect the phone SAMSUNG_Android always says that it hasn't been setup in the network list. I have tried to look into that because it hasn't annoyed me enough. Anyways, it works just fine. So go head and make that purchase, phones great in my book.
It all depends on what you call "compatible"
Can you mount the SD card on the Mac? Yes
Can you run ADB on the Mac? I would assume so. (I use Linux)
Can you copy your Address Book contacts to a vcf file, copy them to your phone, then import then into the phone contacts? Yes
Does iSync work? NO
Apparently one of the few "functional" ways to sync any Android phone to a Mac is through Google calendar and contacts. I personally think that sucks and is pig-headed of both for about the same reasons.
I don't really want Google to have my personal information to that level, so I'm stuck until there is a reliable way to sync address and contact information with a Mac. There are some 3rd-party apps out there, but none have seemed to be reliable enough from the reviews and can be pretty expensive.
I'll probably resolve this in the end by running Calendar Server on Mac Server for other reasons, and I remember reading somewhere that Android could sync to non-Google CalDav servers.
Thank you all for your helpful notes please do keep me updated if any more info arise.
I trying to run Heimdall on my mac to flash a rom, but everytime i select all six files I get failed to start heimdall. its really annoying. Has anyone had any success with this procedure?
Has anyone else been able to get the bluetooth file exchange to work? I can connect to the phone and see the folder hierarchy, but no actual files are visible.
please help me send file via bluetooth on mango
RE:
You can't send files via Bluetooth on a WP7 device no matter the manufacturer.
this is such a small feature present in mobile phones for almost a decade, why do you guys think it's such a problem to implement it in modern OSs?
I'm pretty sure it's not a "problem" so much as MS didn't see it as being worth doing. On other phones, bluetooth file transfer is a work-around for not having Internet access. Since WP7 has Internet access, I guess they decided that the benefit of BT file transfer wouldn't be worth the development cost of implementing it.
That said, you're not the only one who wants this feature - if nothing else, it would be a handy way to have a WP7 device communicate with a "feature-phone" that can't get email or browse the web.

So how do I transfer a large (100MB) video to my friend's phone via "internet access" on WP7? This is typically the the most common situation BT file transfer is useful for.
Genuine question; please let me know step by step.

Go to camera; choose menu->Share.. , select SkyDrive. But it takes time of course...
Alternatively, sync it to your PC, upload to YouTube or similar, and send them a link.
Or just put it on a flashdrive (after syncing), hand it to them, and have them sync it to their phone.
Awkward any way you go about it, agreed. Most of WP7's sharing features aren't intended for files that big (email, MMS, etc.). The funny thing is that Zune (hardware) actually has the built-in ability to send such files via WiFi, but it seems that WP7 doesn't.
I believe you can go to windows phone seven via Bluetooth file transfer and select download.
Edit: you can't do it.
The truth is simple - IT SHOULD BE implemented by Microsoft. It's not necessary to follow the "Book Of Apple" so close and straight. It doesn't cost anything to Microsoft to release it as a patch or a minor update, and yet they are not doing it yet... i hope they will listen (lately it was one of the most requested feature on their User opinion and requests site) to us.
It's all about a OBEX push driver and a access to the isolated storage. It's THAT simple. Same goes for the iDevices, but their simple stubbornness is so known for years now.
So i think, MS should differentiate strongly, from them.
As the title states, just curious if there is a way to make wi-fi direct work between phone and PC or vice-versa. I know there are wi-fi file explorers, but for s single file or picture is there anything for that?
Im pretty sure your phone comes with an app pre-installed for this, but i use airdroid

WiFi direct is only for Samsung devices to other select Samsung devices. It doesn't work with my older Samsung TV, but does work with my friend's brand new Samsung TV. AFAIK, it does not work to connect to a PC.
The other on-device options suck out loud (Kies Air, AllShare Play, etc.). They all require additional software to be loaded on the PC and some are dependent on Samsung's server piece to be operational, which goes down like a $5 ***** faced with a stack of hundreds.
If you want to just 'see' the picture or movie on a PC / Laptop / TV, Settings > More Settings > Nearby Devices is tolerable. It's basically DLNA for the phone. ONLY ALLOW the devices on your LAN that you want to share media to. If you choose Allow All and forget to turn it off, it will share it publicly if you connect to WiFi at McDonald's, Starbucks, Library, etc. PCs show up as Windows-Media-Player, and other devices will be SamsungWiselinkPro or SamsungSmarTV, etc.
I'd recommend to use either Airdroid or WiFi File Explorer and save yourself a LOT of headaches to transfer the files to a PC.

Yeah I have had Wifi File Explorer Pro for a good two years and love it, I was just wondering if there was a better option. Based on the responses above I think I will just stick with what I've got!
If you want to transfer files, Kies Air is actually one of the best choices. It's definitely underrated, probably because of the complicated install process, but once you get the hang of it, it's a very streamlined process.
Most file manager apps support Windows shares, so you can transfer stuff that way too. I use AirDroid though mostly. Heck, you can get an FTP app on your Droid and FTP into it from Windows if you like, make sure you change your IP address in Wifi advanced settings to the one you want to use all the time, and map a network drive in Windows to your phone.
why not an FTP server?
search for the "ftp server" from developer "the olive tree" first of all it's super secure since you can add username and password to it (from the settings) so it's safe even at public wifi hotspots and second It's got 4+ stars! COMMON! lol and the 3rd and the best part (I know you were waiting for this ) It's free
you can copy to/from your phone to/from your computer! just open the app and click on the red power button when it turns green you're good to go it gives you an address you need to type that in your explorer (my documents or my computer would be perfect) and your phone's content is there just be careful not to delete anything you don't know
use at your own risk LMAO and I'm not paid to promote it
Air droid is good, but theres a monthly limit. For small amounts of data (I think it's 100MB per month) it's perfect.

Hey,
I need a program to sync my movies folder via usb. I tried microsoft sync toy but it doesnt work with the tablet. Dropbox is no option and I think the Asus sync program doesnt have the ability.
the best one for over the air (not usb) is foldersync...building your own dropbox
it´s on the market
regards
Mr.Lee
Have you tried Dirsync?
http://www.dirsyncpro.org/download.html
Since neither FolderSync (which is great over WiFi) nor DirSync support MTP as far as I can see, your options are down to... errrrr... none. I do heartily recommend WiFi-based syncs with FolderSync though, and Titanium Media Sync may do the job as well (although I cannot recall if that provides sync over MTP connections as well).
I will try that but I am not happy. I fly frequently so I often push 10Gb and more up. That takes ages via Wifi.
Is there a know program to wirelesly sync contacts and agenda?
I did a search and this is the best I came up with :s
Cause the asus sync kinda sucks imo. You need to klick it at the tablet then pick dates on the computer and then hit sync? There is no way to do it automatically? HTC and Samsung do a WAY better job, but don't have such tablets :s

Oh, yeah, with that kind of transfer volume you can at least shower, have dinner and have a nap in between (and after dinner as well, quite possibly). Isn't a card reader the best option then? (And maybe an extra card so you can transfer content to one card and have the next one pumped full in the meantime?). Do you have the dock as well? That would double your transfer rate, since you could use both cards to transfer at the same time in either a multiformat reader or several card readers used simultaneously.
I'm sorry if I am pursuing a lost cause, but I'm just trying to think with you here.
Netgear recently released a gigabit router so the speed to transfer over wifi will be a lot quicker.
Though yes, i do agree (or at least i can't find a solution myself), surely there must be an easier way to push large files from PC to the tablet.
I inserted the SD Card, however the copying function keeps on crashing for (for numerous small files in many folders)
There must be some software out there that supports MTP! Totally frustrating. I use goodsync to sync to my PC/ phone/ NAS but i can't sync anything to the tablet!

What is the recommended way to sync back to your computer if you are using FolderSync? ie. SMB/ FTP/ SFTP etc? I have Windows7.
I dont quite understand your comment re: sync over MTP. Is FolderSync not providing that intermediary between the tablet and the PC? (ie. essentially synching over Wifi to MTP?)
Just want to push this topic!
I couldnt get Folder Sync to work. There are so many options available and it seems you need additional software installed on the computer. There are no manuals available Sync over Dropbox etc. is no option because of their file size limitations. Im using Isyncr now for my music files. Works awesome.
I still have to do the movies, etc. by hand
