I've heard the while the Nexus 10 has an awesome screen. the performance is a bit laggy as the hardware seems to be a little underpowered in order to drive that high resolution.
My nephew has the Asus and he loves it. He's in college, so gaming is something he likes.
I'd probably recommend the Asus at this point for gaming until the Nexus hardware catches up to the resolution. It could be drivers, though, so you might want to see if you can get some hands-on time with them before making your final decision.

[Q] What is the best tablet out there?

Hello,
Am looking around for tablets. What is the best tablet out there?
Tegra 2/dual-core atom or better. Price below 400$ for brand new.
It must be hackable/moddable. Should have an active developer community or open platform.
Would consider Android, Linux and Windows.
Following options are on my list,
Toshiba Thrive
Asus Transformer
Acer Iconia - Tegra version
Motorola Xoom
Am open to more suggestions.
The best available dual-core tablet available is Asus Transformer. It has good community support, and the tablet itself its great.

I'd go for Asus Transformer, just cause it asus!
He said dual core or better so I guess in terms of futureproof, I'll be the guy to offer the Transformer Prime, otherwise, the original Transformer.

Thank you guys. Yes, prime is 500$ - not below 400$ but I'd be more than glad to pick Prime over the TF101 if you can find me a 400$ deal. =P
But, I don't think Tegra 3 is future-proof. I've been hearing an octa-core is brewing in the kitchen. Nonetheless, sometime back I used to see these 400-500$ Windows 7 Atom tablets. I wonder what happened to them. It'd be really nice if Acer would offer an Ubuntu version of W500. W500 is dual-core AMD x86 and runs Windows 7 Home Premium and costs 500$ but if they make the cut on Windows 7, they should be able to roll out a 400$ x86 Ubuntu tablet.
As of now, am seriously considering Transformer original or Thrive. (Thrive has full USB ports without adapter while Transformer has active dev community. )
And, didn't anyone roll out an AOSP tablet? You know like those developer phones with vanilla Android.
Sorry I missed the $400 part.

Ya asus tablet is nice, all I can afford is nook color running cm7.2

TF201 and TF700

My buddy brought over his new shiney Infinity. I used it for a little while and for some reason couldn't really feel a difference in performance over my Prime. I thought when newer tablets are released they would at least perform better, no?
My wish is getting Android to run on the ipad 3.
It is basically the same device with a better screen. You won't see a performance gain until a new generation of chipsets drop and Jelly bean is available. I had some terrible WiFi performance issues that got on my last nerve and the infinity by all reports seems to have fixed those issues. That is why I'm upgrading

Actually, isn't the Tegra 3 clocked higher in the TF700 (I thought that I read that somewhere)? Plus, it has faster memory, so you *should* see a slight increase in performance. Unless that performance gain is negated by the extra pixels that it needs to push!

Currently, there is not much of difference in performance between the Prime and TF700 because there aren't many apps that can take full advantage of the higher resolution screen or the higher clock speed. I have owned Prime, TF300 and now Infinity and for me Infinity is definitely a complete product compared to its previous versions. Or maybe I should say that TF700 is the product that Prime should have been from day one (minus the HD screen off course).
I few GHz isn't going to make that much of a difference in real world performance since the screen is higher res. If you overclock the Prime, you can get the same clock speed as the Infinity fairly easily. Right now, must users are reporting a bottleneck in the I/O performance and is causing issues with the performance of the device. I doubt ASUS will address this issue for ICS and try to have it fixed in the Jelly Bean update. They have had the code longer than any other company and shares similar internals with the Nexus 7.

to provide some 'un scientific comparisions' ,, I have ASUS , Win PAD (x64) , TF201 (older model) and the newer Infinity Tf700t .....all 32GB models
for me (without any benchmarking ) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Tf700 = far far faster and 'cleaner' running in STD MODE ( withupdated firmwares ) to Tf20x models
Plus , I not much of a lover in them silly WA software company ( always been a UNIX geek) ,,,, so am forced to use ASUS windows tablet for work
but am loving the Infnity , with DOCK = max flexability when ROOTED ( not unlocked boot loader)
Hope this helps ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,cheers

Wifi performance or lack of is why I'm selling my Prime and purchased an Infinity. Particularly the weak range. I just ran a speed test several times on the Prime and Infinity outside on my deck. The Prime averages about 6mps. The Infinity averages about 25mps. I'm a happy camper now. As someone else in this thread mentioned, this is what the Prime should have been. EBay auction on my Prime ends tomorrow and l have a bidder, good riddance Prime.

Well I have both, the Asus TF300T has a much more powerfull processor the Tegra 3 chipset and there are games made with that specifically in mind. It has a beautiful screen, very clear colors, sharp and crisp.
I mean to say overall, the TF300T is probably the better tablet. I pretty much bought my 3113 tab to mess around with and I kind of liked the form factor being easier to hold and all. I looked at it like a beta test for my upcoming Nexus 7 tablet I'm probably going to guy, which will give me the best of both the TF300T and the 3113.

New Update Comming?

So I was so mad that Need For Speed Most Wanted didn't work on the Tablet so I asked on Firemonkeys Support why and they told me this
Code:
Hi Rodolfo,
We apologize that we have not been able to support your device for launch.
Unfortunately there are some problems with the GPU drivers on the ASUS Transformer range that
ASUS and nVidia are aware of and working to release a firmware update to fix.
Once these issues have been corrected, your device should be able to download the game.
Regards,
Nina.
Who are firemonkeys?

It works for me too but it isn't officially supported and games goes slow as hell
Firemonkeys are the Developers of need for speed...
Could be true or could be there way of passing the blame, Who knows to be honest..
Please, lame excuses.
All EA and Gameloft games work fine on the Infinity. They're just too lazy to change the compatibility list on Google Play. I'm running most of them, all without issues.
Imo, doesn't mean anything special. This tablet has some gaming performance problems with many games, not only NFSMW. Check Asphalt 7, The Dark Knight and Babel Rising 3D performance compared to let's say a Galaxy S3. Resolution may be a factor but gpu is weak even in those so hyped Tegra 3 games with choppy framerates (i have watched some Nexus 7 gaming videos, framerate doesn't seem to be different in some games)

Agreed. I have Asphalt 7 and TDKR.
S3 = perfect!
TF700 = Framerate lag. However, Asphalt 7 is bearable if you play with the keyboard or a controller (the lag is less noticeable like that, for me at least).
It's sad how such a high quality tablet with great specs performs so poorly. Hah, a smartphone can perform better than a tablet. Wow.
I'm not sure I could trust a statement like that unless it came from Asus or nvidia directly. Forward that directly to Tien or Gary and see what they say.
Why is this thread in the general section? This should be in the apps section. People look at this and think your talking about an OTA from ASUS...Moderator move this please!

Yes, and if im not mistaken the point is about the how well a game works on the infinity. So since we are talking about a game...it belongs in the app section regardless of whether it need to be fixed by the app maker or asus. Just saying...

I just tired to ask something to Asus and don't get a anwser.
The "updates" from Asus are like "downdates" once that its just give "little gifts" for us, gifts like the mysteriously reset.
I got today a message about new update for my Asus 700, and updated it just from OTA to version JB 4.1.1 - JR003C.WW_epad-10.4.4.20-20121026.
All wents smooth and without problems. After update root was gone, but voodoo Keeper made his magic... Also-root work fine now as well...

ASUS TF700T Versus ASUS Padfone 2

My ASUS TF700T are considered to be a "High-end" tablet. So when I got the chance to borrow a Padfone 2 I decided to pit them at each other. It's nothing scientific about this test at all, I'm just racing two tablets against each other as any geek would do during there free time.
One of my fears with the ASUS Padfone 2 was that the it would prove to be weak when used as a tablet. Instead my TF700T actually seems "laggy" compared with the Padfone 2
http://youtu.be/0iVX0LSA_sE
Over all the Padfone seems "snappier" and at one point my TF700T even hangs (at 3.30). Can this be the famous "I/O problem"?

To be honest, it would be weird if the tf700 outperformed the Padfone 2. Seriously, if you look at specs alone, padfone 2 is obviously the more powerful device: Snapdragon S4 Pro (the most powerful Android SoC currently available for purchase), 2 GB RAM (versus only 1 GB in the tf700), faster internal storage, etc... On top of that, the padfone 2 only has to drive HD screens (both the phone and the tablet) instead of full HD screen in our tablet. To sum up, padfone 2: superior hardware with less pixels to drive.
The tf700 was a high-end tablet one year ago, but not any more. If you are expecting the latest and greatest hardware, you should not get the tf700 in the first place. The correct answer should be either Sony Xperia Tablet Z (Snaprdagon S4 Pro) or soon-to-be-available Padfone Infinity with Snapdragon 600 (if you are not in the US), both Full HD tablets.
PadFone 2 It is FullHD 1920x1089 and tablet screen is 1920x1200

padfone is going to cost like a thousand bucks. I have an infinity with dock and a good droid phone that were cheaper than that combined. Infinity is a great device except for the crappy internal emmc. without my data2sd mod I would've gotten ridbof it a long time ago.

My guess would be no. It is ironic that phones always have better storage than tablets. Furthermore, Snapdragon SoCs have always been superior to Tegra with regards to connection, memory and storage controller, and I don't expect Snapdragon 600 to disappoint in this front.

don't think the storage controller has really any thing to do with the soc you use..
Asus just used a crappy one in the Infinity..
For example has the HTC One X(+) that is also a Tegra4 device has any problem with flash? I haven't heard anything about that from my brother that has that phone.
What the infinity has reminds my about the first SSD with the first generation controllers also there there where large hickups and that kind of problems, only when Intel came to the market with there first gen controller it was suddenly way better.
What we have in the infinity is nothing more then a controller that you also find in USB controllers that are really optimized for large sequential single threaded access. Not multi threaded small i/o
