CyanAndroid 4.2.2 CM10.1 Nightly Jelly Bean - HTC One S

Opinions please.
Si im S-off rotted all the hoda stuff currently on Tricksters newest 9.1 jb rom.
But battery life is aweful.
Ive been seeing Cm10 everywhere.
How is it?
Pros please
Any Cons aka known issues?

Ive had verryyyyy little problems with this rom ( when correctly flashed ).
It's fast and in combination with Nova Launcher it's almost flawless.
I use snapchat and it can't handle recording in standard definition.
Battery life isn't too good either for me. I can't imagine going anywhere without my external charger.
The phone only lasts from 8am till 6pm for me, which sucks.
The camera sometimes has a hard time focusing correctly ( or sometimes it wouldn't focus at all ).
All in all, I'm still very pleased with this rom.

CM 10.1 is mostly stable in the recently nightlies I have flashed. Currently I am running 10.1 4/8 nightly with stock kernal. Battery life seems excellent, although I am not a heavy data user per say. What do your battery stats look like? I've been up for 28 hours now and still at 40% battery life, screen being 27% of the drain.
If you have twrp just make a backup of your current and try out cm10.1

What kernel is the best for this ROM??

Bubba Kernel should work fine with cm 10.1
but the stock kernel is running fine too, except the screen tearing.
latest cm10.1 worked fine on my phone, Ive only got one issue, my phone freezed after 10min of phoning and I have to hard reboot my phone.
but everything else works fine.
read yourself through the cm10.1 thread, this should help you to get an overview about the stability of the recent nightlies.

Latest cm10.1 (4/14 4/16) are very laggy. Too much problems with graphic engine.

are these builds really lagging or do you mean the screen tearing

Happily using 0826, no issues. Its pretty hard to have a decisive recommendation as users are running so many different apps and configurations..
last boot179-4 1650-i forgot date...august ???
This seems to the correct thread to ask this question. I have tried few nighties randomly dome are very stable and some are not. But none of them have given exceptional battery life. Has anyone come across a stable nightly with great battery life.

Hi,
I can recommend this version:
cm7-110716-0105-BOOT179-Jordan.zip
This version runs perfekt with very long battery life and works perfekt for me (cam, gps, wlan, battery...). But it is only version 2.3.4. I use this rom since a few weeks and I have no problems.

Ok, even am hunting for that, and i found 110814 wrking very good for me.
Its 2days,5hr, still 55% left
In my case, my sim was 6yrs old, so replaced it with new1 and that has given me better battery.
my configuration: check this thread

And thanks to cm7defy devs for making such a wounderful rom.
...110822 boot179-4 nightly, very stable, works like a charm!

I really doesn't understand this "myth" of the "best nightly"...
As far as I can tell the development is pretty much straight forward, and the best version is always the last - with bugfixies and new features who will get their bugfixies in a later version.
the best version is not necessarily the last one, we all have seen pretty screwed up nightlies. but now im using 110822 boot179, and i havent noticed any bugs yet, and it runs smooth, no lags, very good battery life.

Software dev is not that straight forward. With an OS it is actually hugely complex and anything changed might have unexpected consequences. The idea of posting here is to ID those ones that get a consistent good report.
I am currently on 110826-2119- NIGHTLY-Jordan.
Can I flash 0822 boot179-4 nightly directly on top of this and clear Dalvik and cache or is there any other procedure.....

jep, can confirm the high battery consumption on this nightly...
but would say that it's not the best rom at all
Well... I wait everyday for the latest nightly... And I can say I'm happy everyday. Haven't seen a sensive decrease in battery life ou system stability in any of the nightlys, only improvements
I update my defy with latest nightly version every ten days; I can't find any obvious issue yet.

But it's my Nightly i prefer because i can use Total Recall
i have to correct myself: 110822 boot179 nightly has battery drain issues, i only could last about 14 hours w/ normal use in the last 2 days... but i hear the 110830 is very good. can somebody pls confirm that?

Most stable ICS is probably CM10 hackfest JB or tonyp's new paranoid android cm10/jb/ics hybrid deal...you're not going to get the most reliable battery life from either. If you want rock solid...stick to GB for now.
Yup the hackfest has been the smoothest for me from all the ICS ROMs. The only bad thing is battery life but just install battery saver app to turn off WiFi when phone is asleep

Under what sort of conditions though? I'm running cm10 hackfest in a mission critical situation far as work goes with heavy phone calling/google searching with some texting/facebook/browsing/music playing thrown in here and there and getting ~10-12 hours out of my out the door full charge most days...I'm not running any secondary mojo apps...just run through my day with wifi off...could be your battery getting a bit of age on it perhaps.
Well, It depends on your phone. My phone completely craps on out Hellfire ICS and Eaglesblood (SOD). It was good with Owain's Genesis Rom, But the best roms for my phone were TonyP's Paranoid Android Builds. On the CM9 PA I never had a crash or SOD and it was relatively fast. CM10 PA Is just super fast and stable.. My current favourite rom would be PA CM10 by TonyP. Give them all a shot and see what works best for you.

What kernel are you using?
I wouldn't say superb for my case with harsh's UV/oc. Then again I am a heavy user the past three days I have had it installed.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
I am using Harsh NO-OC 0208 kernel
I am not really that heavy user. my battery lasts about 2-3 days with wifi and auto sync on full time
I have my Mobile Network set to use only 2G and I check E-mails / google voice messages maybe 3-4 times a hour,
and Play music for about 2 hours a day

Is something wrong with my battery?

I used to get about 24hours on my international version S4 running ICS while running a 3G connection, and a good amount of screen usage.
Ever since the JB update(i updated within 2 days of its release), battery life dropped to 9 hours max, and it has been incredibly difficult to live it.
I switched to TrickDroid 9.1 hoping for better battery life. I then turned off Google Now permanently but i am still not getting more than 9 hours of battery life.
Has my battery been spoilt completely? Has its life reduced because ive been running jelllybean for so long now ? Is there anything i can do to fix this ? Or has this got something to do with Sense 4+ ?

I got this phone (S3) with Jb already installed in it, so dont know the difference in battery timings with ICS or JB. But one thing is sure the battery life of this phone (seems with Jb, coz i read the same thing on some other forums as well) is quite poor. I also get less time on battery. Though i have auto sync on for some accounts like gmail, but still battery time shd not be that poor. Hopefully it will be resolved in some next updates. :S
Also i m facing sound issue (posted in other thread in this forum with Jb). Dont know whether this sound issue is only with few handsets or with all One S (having Jb).

What might be a solution for you both is installing a custom kernel
I'm running dark jelly cm10.1 rom in combination with bubba kernel v2.7, and with the right settings I get awesome battery life.
I can really reccomend switching to aosp rom like dark jelly in combo with this kernel.
Or check out xda forums for sense kernels to combine with trickdroid rom, like here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851841

The kernel you listed is for 4.0.4 based ROMs.
Anyway, i already have the kernel for TrickDroid.
I'll switch to a non-sense ROM and see if things get better.

[Q] Which ROM for a stable flash/torch app?

I recently got the Blaze4G and it is stock, but in the past I had the Samsung Fascinate and I would flash CM and AOKP onto it and the camera flash and torch apps didn't work with the camera LED. I read on the CM 10 development thread that there is also an issue with the camera flash. Are there any non-stock roms that do not have issues with the flash/torch working well?

You could just install an app from the play store that would give you that functionality. Power toggles is one that comes to mind that works on stock that has a working torch toggle.

Why do you say that the stable build isn't that stable? I've been running it and it works fine for me. It's randomly rebooted on me a total of 2 or 3 times though, and I feel like the battery should last longer so I'm keen to hear what you have to say.

2 random reboots in a few months isn't so bad in my opinion. It's not completely rock solid stable but at least I've never gotten a screen of death. I'm thinking of trying out the nightly but while better battery life does sound very enticing, the screen of death seems like a show stopping problem. It seems safer to just flash the lightning zap kernel to see if it'll improve my battery life. When you say you get the screen of death in the nightly, how often do you get it? How often do others say they get it?

I don't get the SoD in the nightly. Didn't say I did. But I think the issue surrounding the SoD is present in the 'stable' build.
I believe the SoD had something to do with the BLN but I'm not 100% on that. I know a lot went into getting rid of the SoD and I don't think those efforts started until after the 'stable' build. I also had issues (what seems like) back in the day where when I would receive a call the phone would freeze and hot boot (reboot to cyanogenmod bootanimation). I also recall having major battery drain compared to previous nightlies with the stable build and posted my results somewhere - maybe in the CM10 thread. Something like an additional 20-40% faster drain even in standby compared to the nightly just before the stable release - using the same kernel too. Something in the stable release seemed to be the cause, and the very next nightly the issue was addressed (which I think I pointed out in the CM thread also).
I also believe that the 'default' kernel with CM10 has added the interactive governor since the stable build. I don't remember having that before either.
You can flash the LZ kernel (it's awesome) but I think there is or may be an issue with the davlik. I do believe Thomas is already on this - read the LZ thread for more info. I was getting reboots quite often using it with both PA and CM10 - sometimes immediately after boot. That doesn't mean you won't run it just fine 100%, just something to be aware of. Make sure you nandroid before flashing in case you run into any instability.

Ah, the way you worded it I thought you got the SoD. I definitely notice the battery draining quite fast, even on standby just as you said. Sometimes I fully charge it before I go to sleep and unplug it; I wake up and the battery is at 90% (Estimate off the top of my head). Other times I fully charge it to 100% and unplug it, only to have it immediately drop down to 99% and within minutes go down even lower. I'm using the default kernel in the CM10 stable build and I have the Interactive governor (It's default), and my scheduler is CFQ (Also default).
You've certainly convinced me to try out the nightly, I'll have to flash it soon. I'd also like to try out the LZ kernel as it does seem really cool. In what areas did you see an improvement and was it a big difference?

Short Review of [UNOFFICIAL]CarbonRom for Sensation (25.10. release)

Hello I am fairly new here, and as I dont have the right to post replies in Android Development section I will share my thoughts here.
I am not a pro with Android allthough I managed to add custom ROMs, root and so on on all my previous phones. So a bit advanced android user.
I wanted JB for my HTC Sensation and after reading a few threads here I decided to go with CarbonRom. Today I have to switch away.
PROS:
+ Jelly Bean
+ Nice tuning of CM and JB by Carbon Team - many small customizations that I enjoyed
CONS:
- Random signal drops
- App crashes
- Terrible batterry life (8 hours on standby with EDGE on, on 3G it would be even less)
- App restarts
- Maps glitch (but if I undesrtand it correctly, it is common on Jelly Bean?)
Might be that these problems are specific, and/or have a solution by tweaking, but I wanted a ROM that works with minimum effort. I think of CarbonRom as a great promise in the future, when it is tuned, but for now, it is not for my everyday use. Anyway I thank the author for the development and port and I will probably try it again, when it is a bit more tuned.
Except the Maps glitches (which are related to something on the kernel or something) I don't have any of these issues. Did you clean install the rom? Maybe try the sultan kernel with the rom.

Yes, I made a complete wipe. How long does your battery last when using mobile data? I do not remember having these issues with ICS 4.0.4 - which is why I am looking at Kangs port of CM. There are many random bugs as disappearing keyboard, random app restarts... I dont know if these are ROM related as this is first ROM i tried on Sensation - but I dont recall these bugs on headsets with custom roms before. I will look into changing the Kernel as I am not a big fan of installing and reinstalling again and again. Also I think there is some CarbonRom update.
I have always mobile data and wifi active, also gps. I usually take it from charging at 6 or 7 am and put it to charge at about 11 pm, with about 20% left, depends on how much I used it over the day, sometimes it has only 10%. Once it lasted for over 26 hours, but i didn't use it all the day.
I never experienced app restarts, only on rare occasions I experienced that the keyboard closes itself, but it didn't bothered me much.
In my opinion it's the most stable and smoothest 4.3 rom beside android1-7's cm 10.2 (never tested albinoman's, maybe his is good too, feel free to test them). All I changed is the kernel, because sultan kernel really increases the performance.
As far as I know rathore has an update ready but couldnt it upload to goo.im yet.
Thanks for your reply, I will try the kernel update first and than Albinomans CM if it does not help. Because the little tweakes are really nice in this ROM.
I can't say that I totally agree with you in your review.
No random signal drops for me.
App crashes at the same rate as with other ROM's for me.
I have exelent batterry life.
App restarts at the same rate as with other ROM's for me.

I thought that too, but i got proved wrong.
I got similar thoughts according battery performance on custom roms. But nobody remarked that stock rom on nonXE version has lower CPU frequency, so that's why juice lasts longer. So we nonXE users should buy XE battery first.

I have an XE, nonetheless battery performance got worse, so its not the cpu.
Now my earpiece is going crazy. I am doing a NAND backup, and will switch to official ICS to see if these problems are rom related.
Reverted back to stock ROM
I am now on the last ICS stock ROM (rooted). It is just one day but so far:
Ear speaker piece was broken, now it works again (it made somtehing like robot modulated voice)
No call drops
No app crashes
Better battery life
I will update in the next few days, as I dont plan to stay on the stock rom - Jelly Bean is way better. Carbon Rom is very nice but bugged as hell and drains battery - at least from my experience.
Sum-up
All problems descibed here vanished with the install of rooted original ICS. I will try another ROM now, asi ICS with Sense is so damn ugly . Anyway I dont recommend Carbon ROM (the older versions) for everyday use.
