[Q] Android 4.2.1 & encryption? - Asus Transformer TF700

hi,
after i've lost root i had to downgrade/upgrade again and my tablet got reset and therefore encryption was gone too. now that i have successfully rooted again and upgraded to android 4.2.1 i wanted to encrypt again.
but it does not work. after choosing encryption within the security settings and entering the passphrase, it shows the android logo for a few seconds and then reboots normally. i've tried that 4-5 times now, it just does nothing, no error..
does it work for anyone?

i've found out why encryption didn't work:
if you have already created an additional user account (multi-user feature), it seems it is not possible to encrypt the tablet afterwards. after deleting the additional account, it worked properly to encrypt the tablet. then i've also created the additional user again without problems. no idea if that's a bug in asus firmware or normal behaviour in android (didn't find any reference regarding that).

Well found though. It does kind of make sense not to allow encryption if more than one user exists.

Whatsapp update

Hi everyone.
I have a TF300T rooted and with Whatsapp already installed and working good. But somehow now it asks for update ("this version of WhatsApp is too old and no longer functions...).
How can I update it, without losing my personal settings? I don't have access to the sim card anymore, so the option of using a mobile isn't possible.
Is it possible to copy the program files from another phone, but still remain with the settings in the tablet? So, I would just manually update the main program, spearing the entire initial configuration steps.
Thanks.

Multiple problems updating CM10.1.1

Hello, I am new to the forum when it comes to posting but I have done lots of research and can not figure out the solution to my problems. A little about my device: VZW sgs3 SCH-i535, currently on version 4.2.2 running CM version 10.1.2-d2vzw.
I originally ran 10.1.1 and worked fine (except I had no notification sound) and have been having multiple problems ever since I tried updating to different versions. here they are:
1. after update I no longer am able to connect to google play store.
2. Unable to open and view messages and rom manager due to immediate force close.
3. I no longer have superuser app on phone but some apps (like titanium backup, LMT, EZ-Unlock, and AdAway) still request superuser access when phone reboots.
4. Lock-screen displays "no data ? tap to refresh".
I have tried multiple things to try and fix like, clearing cache and dalvik cache, restoring system from a previous backup, restored apps and system data. I was unable to find this problem anywhere else on this forum so I decided start a thread. My next step is to wipe my phone and start over unless I can get some help from you guys/gals. Any help is appreciated.
forgot to mention, when I updated the last time to the 7-24 build my phone got stuck in a bootloop which is why I ended up restoring the phone from a previous backup.
Thanks

[Completed] Backup apps from recovery (no root)

I've become a bit of a purist lately and don't really want to root my device (currently a Nexus 7 2013 running stock 6.0) and keep it as close to stock as possible. The only exception I've made to this is custom recoveries (because so far I haven't noticed any changes in OS behavior when a custom recovery is loaded).
So, my question is, how can I backup apps from a custom recovery? (with the ability to recover them individually - my recovery of choice is CWM, but I've used TWRP as well)
A little background on what makes me ask this and what I've tried so far ...
Lately I was tinkering with framework-res.apk and managed to get the system into an unusable state and was unable to fix it even by flashing the stick system image back to the device. Apparently my tinkering had messed up some bit of the user data that the system uses, but I couldn't figure out what bit to reset.
So, I went into recovery and used ADB to shell into the system and tar/gz'd the entire data partition up and then wiped everything other than the sdcard data (/data/media/0 on my device). The device booted back up normally and everything worked again (after resetting things up).
So, next I thought that if I just reinstalled some of my usual apps, start them up to let the basic structure get created, and then go into recovery and replace their data (/data/data/com.whatever.something/) with the backup I made, and reset the ownerships to the ownerships configured under the new install, that they should be back to the way they were before all this started.
But, no dice. Restoring /data/data/whatever is at best ignored by the apps I tried, and at worst causes the app to crash on startup (tried BeyondPod, Chrome, and Google Authenticator).
I've seen this process documented as working on the web. So, what gives? Did whatever framework-res.apk corruption I had actually mess up my other apps also (so that I essentially backed up a crashing/corrupted app), or does this process not work anymore?
Thanks in advance for any assistance or tips.

Greetings,
Thank you for using XDA Assist. Here is the Nexus 7 (2013) homepage:
Google Nexus 7 (2013)
Here is where you can ask your questions:
Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A
Good luck!
I'm really looking for a generic solution that would work across devices (not just the Nexus 7). I've been using adb to backup apps for a while just for this reason. I can recover those backups on pretty much any device as long as it has debugging available in the developer options.

[Q] App Changes with Nougat?

Hello everyone,
today i switched from the german XEG MM Firmware to the latest BTU Nougat one, all with CSC change factory reset and re partition to get the CSC into effect. Had to factory reset anyways, since i always do it after some months, so why not update and test Nougat, while at it.
While everything except VoLTE/WifiCall (which are to be expected not working) works perfectly, i do however have a small problem with 1 App only, namely WhatsApp.
I've done a Cloud and Local Backup before the Update and neither are restoring on the Nougat OS, tested with older / same and even a newer beta from the APK itself.
The backup is recognized in size and according to the SQL extract should not be corrupted, haven't seen through every chat though (Cloud Backup size 660MB, chat file 22MB <- too big maybe?).
So my question is, does anyone have the same problem as i do? Is it a Nougat Filesystem / WhatsApp Database Key change due to the upgrade?
If you had the problem aswell, did you solve it without a downgrade or am i alone with it? The MM Key works on local backup, though i haven't yet pulled a "new" key to verify yet.
Tried:
Install various APK's, older/newer and same version
Factory Reset w/ clearing cache via recovery mode after flashing
Give the app permissions before launching
Remove Google Account to restore from local backup
Since i now have to wait 13h to verify with their servers again due to my personal troubleshoot, i figured i could ask here
I'm grateful for any tips, otherwise i might downgrade to MM again and hope the problem fixes itself, though i'd like to have the features of Nougat now and not in 2-3months, given previous release schedules of my carrier.
edit:
- I've just had an idea, while you use your phone number to verify. Mine does not display under the phone settings -> Device information -> Own Number. This might be due to the CSC change, but should not be relevant, since the actual process is done via messaging right?
Some additions to above text.

Problem with save the settings in P8 Lite

Hello,
Few days ago after few failed attempts to root my P8 Lite, I accidentally formatted system partition. I've found an image from my operator and installed it. Everything seems to be fine, but after rebooting system all changes (like default booting program, administrators of the device or displaying over other apps) are discarded and setting to default ones, they are not permanent.
Does someone know how can I fix it? This error keeps preventing me to personalise my phone in any way.
