[Q] PPTP VPN connection issues - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a PPTP VPN set up on my home router that works fine for my Samsung Note 2 phone (4.1.1). I can connect, browse the network at home, and access files etc.
When I set up the client on my tf300(cm 10.1/android 4.2), I can connect to the VPN, but I cannot browse the network at home, and it disconnects from the pptp VPN server within a few minutes. The server side shows a connection for about 45 seconds, then shows no connection from the tf300, but the client device, the tf300, shows that it is still connected.
I thought it might be a ROM issue, so I I tried loading the new PA ROM, but I still experience the same issue.
On the router side, I'm using tomatousb's build in PPTP VPN server.
Anyone else have this issue?

[Q] Wifi Connection Problems - Vegan-Tab

Need a little help. My G-tab is running current VEGAn-TAB rom. I am having problems getting the wifi to actually connect. My icon shows a good signal, and inside the wireless settings I am showing connected to my wireless network. I also went to advance settings and made sure wifi never sleeps. All apps that need internet connection (market, browser, etc.) show no data connection.
Used yesterday with no problems. My laptop is running on same network and working fine.
Any ideas?
have you restarted? Sometimes happens to me too but it's nothing a simple restart can't fix.
Yes. Restarted several times. Didn't work.
Oddly enough I have a Airave from Sprint to boost my cell phone signal, and it may have been the problem. When I unplugged it and returned to my G-Tab later the Wifi was working. Not sure why.

Could be competition on the 2.4 GHz frequencies. Some wireless phones and even microwave ovens can trash a wifi connection.

Anyone else having WiFi problems with Vegan? Since installing this mod, I can only connect to a WEP signal and not a WPA-secured network.
I can't connect either. Trying to connect to a wep wifi and it stays on "obtaining ip address from ..." but never completes the connection. Any help?

No problems with home WEP, office WPA2-PSK and several wide open public ones. I just wish the damn thing would auto-connect to the ones I have been to before.

My only guess is, if its a 5Ghz N Router you should check to see if it allows
2.4Ghz signals and not just 5Ghz. The GTAB doesn't seem to support connections at 5Ghz.
I just changed over from TNT Lite(latest version) and was able to connect fine but I didn't like the interface and some of the features. I've loaded Vegan tab 7.0.0 and I was able to connect at work (802.1 EAP) network but I can't connect to a wep wifi at home (were several other pc's are connected and working fine) and it stays on "obtaining ip address from ..." but never completes the connection. Any help?
I have a Linksys wrt300n router and have confirmed that it configured to accept 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz signal and have rebooted several times with no luck.
I don't have a lot to add to help you troubleshoot, but I can say that I am running VEGAn Gingerbread RC1 with pershoot's latest kernel. I am able to connect at home on a WAP2-PSK (Linksys Linux based G/N) at home, WAP2-PSK at the cabin (Linksys's cheapest G/N), and at work on a 802.1 EAP network (Cisco).
I has some unexplained issue mounting the internal storage on a computer. After a little head scratching, I started to wonder if it had something to do with the custom kernel I was running. I flashed Pershoot's latest kernel and my problems went away.
I mention all that to suggest that you might try flashing a different kernel and see if you get different results.
I have an issue with vegan where when i reboot the device (or turn off and turn on) wifi is off even if left on when turning off, i have to manually turn on wifi after every boot.

Have you checked to see if you're using MAC address filtering, and if so, that your gTab's MAC address has been added to the whitelist on the router? I get the feeling that that may be the issue. You have the WEP key on your device, but your router's still blocking it. I'm running the same ROM you are, and have had absolutely no troubles connecting to my work network with 802.1 PEAP, WPA/WPA2-TKIP and AES at home, and multiple makes/models of access points/routers.
Hmmm. Just reread your original. Now I'm wondering if you have enough DHCP leases available on your router. If you're out, you'll have to wait until a lease expires or add some more to your scope of addresses.
Hope some of that helped in some way...

Can't Connect to VPN

I just got my TB this morning, am working on configuring it to replace my DInc. I have an L2TP over IPSec (PSK) VPN set up on my DInc, and it works without any problem. I tried the exact same settings on my TB, and I get a box "Attention Unable to connect to the network. Do you want to try again?"
I get this message whether I try to connect from 3g/4g or from my own wireless network (on the same LAN as the VPN). When I look at the logs on the machine hosting the VPN, I see absolutely nothing when I attempt to connect from my TB (connecting from my DInc produces the right log entries). I can also connect to the VPN server from other clients (Windows 7, etc.) without any problems.
*Edit: Cannot connect from TB via PPTP either. Can connect from other PPTP clients.
I have been able to connect to my works VPN (using PPTP) without problem.
Very fast and stable so far! Used it for about 15 minutes without a hitch.

Thanks for the reply. I am still unable to connect directly from my TB, using PPTP or L2TP. If I configure my TB as a mobile hotspot and connect to the internet through it, though, I can connect to my VPN server using the TB's internet connection. But I still cannot connect from the TB using its VPN client.
Lovely. After doing some extensive reading, it sounds like the problem is likely the rom itself. Guess I'll be waiting for an update.
can you list what settings your using in your VPN? since this forum is aout people having trouble and not bragging about whats working?
I too am running dasBAMF and have no VPN's added nor can I find default settings

I'm guessing your post was directed at rajuabju, but hopefully I can help. I do finally have both PPTP and L2TP/IPSec VPN's working on my TB. With what are you having trouble?
Have you tried OpenVPN? I have had the most luck with that, as well as having it forward all traffic through the VPN.

[Q] [openvpn, cm7] Hotspot not functional when openvpn is connected

I'm using CM7 stable (7.0.3) with a Nexus One.
When I enable the hotspot feature without having the phone connected to my openvpn server, my laptop (connected to the hotspot) connects to the web fine. The phone's internet connection works fine as well.
But when I enable the feature while connected to the openvpn server, even though the internet works on the phone, my laptop connects to the hotspot but cannot send/receive any data. I can ping my phone from my laptop, but pings go unanswered for example to google.com or 8.8.8.8...
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here, how I can troubleshoot or how I can fix the problem?
PS. I'd like to have the phone connected to my openvpn server rather than my laptop while using the hotspot as the laptop's openvpn connection is unstable when using the phone's hotspot (I do't know why).
Thanks!
I think the problem is the Gateway used by the laptop to connect to the internet. When you activate the hotspot the laptop will use to connect to the internet as gateway the ip provided by 3G. When you activate the VPN the gateway is changed but the laptop can't tell that and it uses the wrong IP address.

Can't connect to wifi network (WPA PSK)

So, after browsing a bit about this I'm still unable to connect to my work wifi network. Every other network I'm able to connect just fine.
I put the wifi password, authenticates, goes to "obtaining ip address", goes back to authenticate.. and doesn't connect.
Forcing (using manual IP configuration) connects but doesn't open websites, even tho I'm using the connect gateway / dns servers. (even used 1st dns same as gateway).
Got a LG 4x next to me connecting just fine, problem is only on my nexus 5.
So far happens on 4.4.2 and 4.4.3.
Tried some tips that I saw around the web like disabing nfc or turning on and off airplane mode (although there isn't much logic in these), but still nothing.
Wifi password is correct.
Problem it seems is somewhere obtaining the ip from the router or something, as it goes back when it reaches this point, but then again forcing it allows me to connect but doesn't open websites.
Any tips? I'm suing WPA2 PSK at home and it's fine.
The network is in a 2ghz range channel 10.
Any help is appreciated.
PS - Router is a linksys WAP54G.
Thanks a lot!

OpenVPN TCP Connections Fail? LG ROM Fault?

Anyone else experiencing this?
When I try to connect to my VPN server using OpenVPN connect over TCP I get a Network EOF error, and when connecting with the regular Open VPN Client app I get "SIOCGIFHWADDR(lo) failed." Works fine when I connect under UDP, and connecting to the same server under TCP works fine on my other devices (I'm coming from the Nexus 6 2014 and used it extensively on there).
From what I can see on Google it sounds like this is a ROM issue, but wanted to make sure it's happening to everyone so I know it's not just something misconfigured on my end.
I just tried mine and TCP connection isn't working for me either.

Out of curiosity, does UDP work for you? I figured UDP was working, because it showed as connected with no errors on OpenVPN Connect but it actually doesn't load anything from the internet whilst connected and the other OpenVPN app is giving me the same "SIOCGIFHWADDR(lo) failed" error.
This is a pretty major issue
I'll bet your wifi doesn't approve of VPN.
UDP and TCP connection through the Private Internet Access app work fine. There's a configuration problem in what you're trying to do. Either the wifi LAN won't allow it, or your OpenVPN settings are off, or the OpenVPN app is somehow unhappy in Nougat.

It's definitely possible that the OpenVPN settings are off, possibly requiring a different configuration on the v20, however the WIFI is fine and Nougat isn't an issue as it works fine on my Nexus 6 2014 running Android 7.0.

Yep, UDP works without issue through OpenVPN.
My PIA app works as well.
It depends on the security settings with the network, with my home wifi or data using from the Usim, it works ok, if using my company network, it block me out, and won't connect.
