OpenVPN TCP Connections Fail? LG ROM Fault? - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

Anyone else experiencing this?
When I try to connect to my VPN server using OpenVPN connect over TCP I get a Network EOF error, and when connecting with the regular Open VPN Client app I get "SIOCGIFHWADDR(lo) failed." Works fine when I connect under UDP, and connecting to the same server under TCP works fine on my other devices (I'm coming from the Nexus 6 2014 and used it extensively on there).
From what I can see on Google it sounds like this is a ROM issue, but wanted to make sure it's happening to everyone so I know it's not just something misconfigured on my end.

I just tried mine and TCP connection isn't working for me either.

Out of curiosity, does UDP work for you? I figured UDP was working, because it showed as connected with no errors on OpenVPN Connect but it actually doesn't load anything from the internet whilst connected and the other OpenVPN app is giving me the same "SIOCGIFHWADDR(lo) failed" error.
This is a pretty major issue

I'll bet your wifi doesn't approve of VPN.
UDP and TCP connection through the Private Internet Access app work fine. There's a configuration problem in what you're trying to do. Either the wifi LAN won't allow it, or your OpenVPN settings are off, or the OpenVPN app is somehow unhappy in Nougat.

It's definitely possible that the OpenVPN settings are off, possibly requiring a different configuration on the v20, however the WIFI is fine and Nougat isn't an issue as it works fine on my Nexus 6 2014 running Android 7.0.

Yep, UDP works without issue through OpenVPN.
My PIA app works as well.

It depends on the security settings with the network, with my home wifi or data using from the Usim, it works ok, if using my company network, it block me out, and won't connect.

WinMo VPN --> Sonicwall firewall

Has anyone ever attempted to set up a WinMo VPN to a Sonicwall firewall? I've been spinning my wheels for a few days now trying to get it to work on my TP2 with no luck.
I've not connected to Sonicwall, but I too wasted a lot of time trying to connect to our corporate VPN server (uses PPTP). The phone couldn't connect--wouldn't even attempt to connect.
I then installed another modem connection in my work connections. I used the #777, [email protected], and password = vzw. It works now.
Maybe that will also work with the Sonicwall. I'm curious why I had to go through all those steps. My other Windows Mobile phones automatically used the Verizon connection when a VPN session need to be established.
Thanks, but I can't use PPTP. I need to use IPSec or L2TP. My issues are more about properly configuring one of these protocols. Anyone? Anyone?

Can't Connect to VPN

I just got my TB this morning, am working on configuring it to replace my DInc. I have an L2TP over IPSec (PSK) VPN set up on my DInc, and it works without any problem. I tried the exact same settings on my TB, and I get a box "Attention Unable to connect to the network. Do you want to try again?"
I get this message whether I try to connect from 3g/4g or from my own wireless network (on the same LAN as the VPN). When I look at the logs on the machine hosting the VPN, I see absolutely nothing when I attempt to connect from my TB (connecting from my DInc produces the right log entries). I can also connect to the VPN server from other clients (Windows 7, etc.) without any problems.
*Edit: Cannot connect from TB via PPTP either. Can connect from other PPTP clients.
I have been able to connect to my works VPN (using PPTP) without problem.
Very fast and stable so far! Used it for about 15 minutes without a hitch.

Thanks for the reply. I am still unable to connect directly from my TB, using PPTP or L2TP. If I configure my TB as a mobile hotspot and connect to the internet through it, though, I can connect to my VPN server using the TB's internet connection. But I still cannot connect from the TB using its VPN client.
Lovely. After doing some extensive reading, it sounds like the problem is likely the rom itself. Guess I'll be waiting for an update.
can you list what settings your using in your VPN? since this forum is aout people having trouble and not bragging about whats working?
I too am running dasBAMF and have no VPN's added nor can I find default settings

I'm guessing your post was directed at rajuabju, but hopefully I can help. I do finally have both PPTP and L2TP/IPSec VPN's working on my TB. With what are you having trouble?
Have you tried OpenVPN? I have had the most luck with that, as well as having it forward all traffic through the VPN.

AirDroid Help

Hey Guys,
I been having trouble to connect the AirDroid App.
I'm using tethering Connection to my laptop, and prioritized it to lv 3, since I need to use the Ethernet and VPN for Work.
I tried ping the gateway and the AirDroid address which is the gateway (phone) and port, and it won't answer.
Any ideas?

did you tried AirDroid official website. Here is the link http://airdroid.com/userguide.html
I'm using X10S ROM which is 2.3.4.
Yes I did tried the guide, but many people are also having trouble to ping the device. I noticed that on the routing table for the device I didn't see the network, though don't know how the tethering works on android, in network terms I mean.
So I was playing around and turned off the VPN and it worked... but I need the VPN as Main gateway, any ideas on how to make that, so it won't use my phone's internet, so it uses the VPN and it wouln't block my phone's network?

[Q] VPN on Mobile Data

Has anyone been able to get a VPN (PPTP, L2TP, or OpenVPN) to work while connected Verizon 3G or LTE? I have a work VPN and Private Internet Access and both exhibit the same issues. They will connect, work for a bit of data transfer, and then drop. The drops are caused by the mobile data connection resetting (icon will be grayed out before becoming solid white again). VPN works completely fine on Wifi though.

I have been trying to get the this ironed out as well. Have you tried the client "OpenVPN for Android"? and I'm using a TCP port instead of UDP. My other thought has been it seems like the connection resets more often while I'm mobile. I my location doesn't change I have greater up time.

I have tried that one and the OpenVPN stock app, VPNRoot, and the stock android client. All have the same problem. I don't get drops ever on WiFi, only on mobile.
I have also tried some other things like mssfix and setting a lower MTU, but neither have worked so far.

WiFi DNS issue

Currently running Sow Nice OJC on my G920T. I've been running into some odd WiFi issues...namely with DNS and addressing. At my and my girlfriend's house, WiFi is pretty much pointless as I get DNS errors. Her connection is using the standard Xfinity all-in-one modem/router which isn't configurable worth a damn...but her phone and tablet work fine via WiFi, as does my laptop. At my house I have my own modem and router; I have the DHCP server set up to use Google's public DNS servers. All my devices in my house work fine...Xbox, computer, even Chromecast...but for whatever reason my S6 runs into DNS errors which of course disables WiFi Calling as well.
I have tried running static IP and manually setting Google DNS as well as other DNS; it doesn't seem to help. I have also tried toggling airplane mode. I haven't experimented much with other connections that aren't Comcast, so I will include that in my troubleshooting. I am unsure if this is related to the issue I was having with connecting to my GoPro via WiFi.
Anyone else out there running Lollipop have DNS issues (or don't) and have found a solution? It isn't a huge issue at the moment as I have good signal at both places, but I would like to be able to use WiFi for the bandwidth...
Still working on this...it appears to be an IPv4 issue. All devices in my house happily get an ipv4 address alongside ipv6. Not the S6....it only uses ipv6.
