Our end? - Galaxy Ace II General

Today I saw at SamMobile a Article about the upcoming Galaxy Ace 3.
I think if this Phone really come we wont get any Devs anymore because it will be outdated.

But they have had devs before, we don't. I think I will buy the new Nexus phone when it will release

And SGS3 is dead than. C'mon we didnt even started... to be endet.

Can you post a link? I can't find the announcement.
Anyway, I thinks it's good that this line of phones is going to continue - if Sammy will keep value/money index with A3 it will be my next handset. I'll wait 3-4 months from introduction, sell Ace2 and buy Ace3. It will be equipped with 4.1+ android, IMO first mature version of android so there will be everything we need. Update to 4.2+ is not essential as main changes there are for tablets. I only hope that they will make the camera batter, i.e. more responsive, current version and lags in it are terrible

Hmph.. our phone will be like Galaxy w ( Good phone , single core 1.4 ghz ,forgotten phone ) but it gets CM
GT-I8160 JB♣

So there is no Hope for our Phone?
Because i havent enough money to buy a new one but I really like Custom Roms like Cyanogenmod.

I think they will bring out an Ace 3 soon, the Ace 2 didn't sell very well over here. The Ace is still selling very fast in the UK! Still a really popular phone. My contract is up in August so I might consider it, that or an HTC. Maybe even WP, unlikely however.
I'm really interested to see what they do with the design!

Why are you afraid of? You have got great device for your money. Ace 2 would go to low end and Ace 3 will replace our device. Evolution, nothing new.
If you are afraid about of lack of development ... don't cause I do not think middle end devices (without support of producer) had ever proper development help. There are more than two devices which are close competitors to Ace 2 ... I mean SIII Mini and S Advanced and a whole bunch of Xperias. We still do not have working CM on Samsung middle class.
If I would like to have great support ... I would buy Nexus or any popular Sony phone. Ace 2 has just good size, its cheap and reliable device. With proper 4.1.2 ... I won't need more. If you buy Ace 3 ... it will be definately bigger ... it will get 4.1.2 right now and then ... maybe in a year Samsung would update it to next android. Samsung leaved such good devices like Galaxy S Plus or Galaxy W without support ... think about it choosing next Samsung phone.

1.2 GHz CPU dual core ? Maybe another Nova Thor -_- . Ace 2 is great phone but with this what we have got we need to start creating something better than stock ROM . OK , MC8 isn't so bad but our staff can be more powerful with longer battery life .

My question is - what else do you need in this ROM? In my opinion in 4.1.2 we've got everything what we need. Give me certain examples what else do you need in custom ROM.

For me just give me a CM 10 and i will be happy.

Look in features of Kyrillosv7b. There are all examples.
Also the long press back to kill app feature, which you can also find in CM is great.

I really can't understand people who wants to change Ace 2 into S4. If you want better battery life and amazing features - buy newer device - that is the manufacturer 's policy.
I am a true fan of CM, but I have a weird feeling, that many people thinks that CM can transform any phone into Galaxy S series, without spending any money - that is not the way it goes.

Try to understand that everyone have diferent need's and own taste. When stock 4.1.2 is good enought to you, means that you are lucky guy, but you cant expect same for every other person. I like much more pure Android vision, and if know, before i buy Ace2, that we dont have CyanogenMod or AOSP, never buy it. But this is my mistake. So my need's is clear:
- pure Android
- better ram mangment
- better battery life
- more kernels
- theme chooser and so on....
That's my personal opinion.

Want all of that? Buy Nexus. Simple.
I can understand that many people want CM. Personally I also like it very much, but I hate situations, when a group of people is complaining about lack of Cyanogen on our device. If I am oriented into CM ROM's I am buying a device with expanded developer support (i.e. Nexus, as I said before).
On the other hand, a lot of people is thinking, that if we get official JB 4.1.2 from Samsung, we will "automatically" get CM 10 support. It isn't working like this - no one said that if we have JB, we will get CM. It is only a good will of CM Team.

Yes, agree if you want to have multi tasking. Automatic task killers are stupid, I agree. But sometimes I want to have a app closed and not running in background. For example a game which makes my phone laggy while it runs in background.

Ahahaha yes. Buy a phone which costs 300€ more...
I already have this phone and I want as much performance as possible. Is this too much willing?
Yes my next phone will be a nexus but only because it's very cheap. Galaxy nexus and S2 wasn't so cheap so I bought this phone. (nexus 4 wasn't out there)
So I'm happy with every rom which makes our phone better in performance and features...
EDIT. and if you don't want custom ROM's, why are you on xda? You better should be on sammobile if you only want newest official rom...

Secondary phone to buy

Hello all,
I want to buy a new phone, because I always do some experiments to my G3 and don't have sometimes enough time to recover it from bootloop or something... I also don't want to leave G3 comunity because you're the best friends now
So I ask, which phone would you recommend to me? As daily driver... I would keep my g3 for developing and tweaking . My requirements are the same as for this phone + root-friendly (if you know what I mean ) + CM available for it... Also it shouldn't be as expensive as sgs3 or galaxy nexus, etc... It also should have bigger screen...
So, what do you guys think? I thought about byuing sgs i9000 as it has almost fully working JB...

hi buddy this is just my suggestion as quadcore phones are already there and getting better every day and single core phone are about to vanish so i feel it would be better if you think about dual core phone as it will not only provide your better performance that single core processor but also will be future proof and supported with future editions of android phones.

Well, not fully agree
First - Nexus doesn't have slot for microsd card.
Secondly, the GPU is worse than the SII.
Thirdly - SII is more efficient.
Fourth - SII has better camera (8Mpix), Nexus - 5Mpix.
Nexus has higher screen resolution - 1280 × 720, but made in pentile technology.
Also, I'm wondering about these two phones, but more convinces me - Samsung Galaxy SII.
What do you think about Snapdragon S4 CPU and Adreno 225 CHIPSET? Just wondering how this will perform in Asus Padfone... I like the fact that this phone will get JB officially, but no forums here at xda...

Here you have nicely described:

I have used the Galaxy s2 and galaxy nexus and i just prefer the feel of the nexus. It is very well built and the speed is very good. Also, its a nexus and nexus phones always get amazing development forums :good:
if someone want to do more reasearch with i-5801 phone and can't digest other models,
Its now Available thru vodafone @ Rs.4900/- which is 92 USD approx.

Not yet, instead of it I have HP Probook 4540s as for the price of Galaxy S3 here in Czech Republic. It's for school now. I'm happy with it I'm now writing on this notebook. Perfect keyboard!
However, galaxy nexus will probably follow. I don't want the Nexus 4 for the "bad screen responsiveness" bug.
PS: I won't EVER sell my Galaxy 3! Love this phone

The pro book looks great and I also feel the same way about my g3 lol. I was thinking of getting a new phone but i decided to wait until marcelluse says if he's going to continue with cm10 development or any development on the g3. My parents gave me a tab 2 for Christmas so I'm not in a rush for a newer phone. I wished I could have donated to the devs for their work on the g3 for Christmas but I don't have a job I'm a student. I will try in the future
Happy new years by the way.

I have a Nexus 4 and the dev over there is amazing. Yes if the micro-sd card slot and removal battery is a bumper, then this phone isn't for you. I would suggest the S2 or the Note 1. The Asus Padfone is a good choice but it makes sense when you have the tablet as well as the phone.
PS My Nexus 4 dosen't have any bugs.

i9500 Vs. i9505

Hi all ,
I know that question maybe already posted many times here in the forums but still can't find an answer
I might give my little brother the Galaxy Note II i have now - which is the best device i ever used BTW - and start searching for a new device to get ,,, although i like HTC ONE and Xperia Z but Samsung devices has another taste with the ton of features they put into the phone
as the Note 3 expected to be around 1000USD which is a very high price and won't get a better price soon so i have to stick with Galaxy S4
The question is , Which one shall i get ? 9500 or 9505
4G isn't available yet at my country and don't care about it that much ,,, most reviews said that the 9500 Octa is slightly better than SD600 one , also found that camera in 9500 is better than 9505 but i guess that this is all software issues
Which one gets official updates from Samsung 1st ??!! which one is supported more from developers here in XDA ??!!
Please help me with your experience with both devices
Thanks

It really depends on how you plan to use the device, but if you plan on running CM or AOSP ROMs the choice is clear: 9505 all the way. The Exynos Octa is a bad joke at this point (no flames please) because of the problems inherent in the hardware that cannot and will not be fixed. I will never touch another Exynos based device with a ten foot pole.
I already have the new Nexus 7 , so i can taste the pure JB & Kitkat at it
I like the features that Samsung added in top of Android and TouchWiz UI
I remeber that i tried CM at S3 and Note II for a few days and i was back to the stock ROM so i guess that i will note use the CM or AOSP that much
Is this the only problem with 9500 and Exynos or do you recommend 9505 in general for other reasons

That's it, the hardware problem he mentioned is the cpu's inability to use all 8 cores at the same time, only 4 at once, but the performance is still super fast and it has better gaming performance than the 9505(that's what i've heard at least)
But the 9505 always gets updates before the 9500 as far as i know
But if i were you i would be saving for the note 3, its the best option for you, i know it might be too expensive but if you find any other way to get it cheaper then dont hesitate, i dont think you will be comfortable going from a galaxy note 2 to an s4

i already feel that moving from Note 2 to S4 isn't a good decision ,,, although the 1080p Screen and faster performance in general but there is something strange about Note that u can't imagine yourself using other device :good: but right know it's the only option for me
i will have to wait at least 3~4 months to get the Note 3 in a reasonable price ,, if i can live with the Xperia Mini and New Nexus 7 i will till i can get the Note 3
9505 is getting the official updates before 9500 ??!! interesting , i thought that Samsung keep both updated at the same schedule or with month or month and half max or 9500 is updated first as it's the international version
still can't decide which one shall i get

No, the difference in updates its like a week or two, and youre right there is something about using notes that makes it hard to use smaller devices
Its definitely the screen size, i personally wont buy a phone with a screen size smaller than 4.7, ive been spoiled lol
And the performance difference between the note 2 and the s4 wont be that big
Now the performance difference between the note 2 and the note 3 will be enormous, if youre going to upgrade then that's an upgrade
I would keep the note 2 until the 3 gets cheaper or sell the 2 to buy the 3

i am forced to leave the Note 2 to my brother as he needs a new device and mine still as new and i found that it's a chance to get a new phone ,, he will pay me of-course for the Note 2 and don't like that we both have the same device if i or him got another Note 2
but still the Note 3 is double the price as Note 2 and it will be a waste for money to get it while it's launch and watching it's price drops in front of my eyes
i was thinking that i can get S4 for now and after while when Note 3 price is good enough i sell the S4 for Note 3 but i found myself can't choose between 9500 and 9505

You'll be very happy with the I9500 then. Thoroughly enjoying mine, not bothered about custom ROMs and all that personally, ran stock with no issue on both my GS2 and GS3, doing the same with the GS4, although I did experiment with the GS2 a bit, but went back to stock.
The benefits of I9500:
Sony Exmor RS camera sensor with [email protected] slo-mo vid
HEVC H.265 codec support
Wolfson DAC audio chip
Very powerful
Great batt life
will it's still confusing , some reviews says that the SD600 is better others says that the Octa is better
almost all reviews agrees that the Octa is better in Camera , Sound and overall performance , after Samsung software updates the heat was gone from the Octa version and device performance is more better now
Battery is better at the 9505 but i guess it's OK with me ,, moving from Note 2 3100 to S4 2600 battery is a disaster any way so it's not a big deal the difference between 2 devices
still can't find info about software updates , Which device receives updates first ??! 9500 or 9505 ?!
the difference in price isn't that much it's around 50~60USD so it's not a big deal
Confused
Update :
Found articles stating that Exynos 5 Octa uses an Imagination PowerVR GPU and this GPU doesn't support OpenGL ES 3.0 which is supported in Android 4.3 but the SD600 Adreno 320 is fully OpenGL 3.0 compatible and i guess that this will have a differance in games that needs OpenGL ES 3.0 and overall graphic performance
I had white 9500 from june, two days ago i decided to take the balck colour, soo this time i went with 9505, all i can say they are almost the same on daily use, didnt try hard games on 9505 yet, 9500 was great device, i havent any issue with that, reason why i took 9505: open gl 3.0 support, more devs, open source SOC, but i can never say 9500 is bad, both are awesome

What about camera performance ??!! is it the same after software updates , or as most reviews says that the Octa is better than the SD600 ?!
I really dont know, i used 9500 a lot, awesome camera, i took some with 9505, for me its the same, but im not a profesional photografer to see diferences between those two. For me they are the same.

Android 4.4 to target lower-memory devices

Hey guys,
I stumbled across an article today, clearly stating that all phones with 512MB of RAM should run KitKat perfectly. Who knows? Maybe when Google releases their source-code, Samsung will open their eyes and update a large series of low-end devices including Ace Plus?
If you're interested in it, see thread here : http://android-developers.blogspot.com.es/2013/10/android-44-kitkat-and-updated-developer.html
I don't think so there is single hope for ace plus to get future KK update,
even if google release source code for 512 mb ram device samsung will probably give update to those device which currently running on JB.
Like galaxy young, fame etc...
the only thing that gives KK to this device is some dev will develop rom from google build or from CM.
Forget it
Samsung Dropped support of S2 ,they have hundreds of devices WAAAAY better than trebon ,so you think they'll pay attention for trebon?
Please come on ,sincerely forget it
If I'll buy another phone ,surely it won't be Samsung ,just because of the lack of the suppprt :screwy:

i bought my lg with 500, and i had to chose between lg, s4, one and nexus 4.
but this was the best i saw in terms of design.
its not everything about updates, you have to like that phone
i had in my hands a s4 and its the worst phone i saw in a while, and i didn't saw any differences between the quad and octa core version
Would porting KitKat be harder than CM10.2? :S

Basically, DIY!
I think (in my ignorance) that there would be a lot less trouble managing to port kitkat. I mean, the kernel may make things harder, but hey, the performance would be much better than on CM10.1...

Google launched KK with this few requirements trying to reduce the fragmentation on Android. Hopefully they'll encourage makers to try to update the most devices to this new version, but there's no doubt not all will comply and not everyone wants to continue supporting old devices that no longer generate money for them.
Still, if anyone plans or wants to buy a new device, why not donate your old one to TheWisp so he can continue with his great work.

better sell your i9506 and look for alternative

i guess we wont be able to customize our s4 i9506 .nothing is happening in i9506 thread till date.and i dont wnt to get stuck with original firmware forever.so i just sold my i9506 and got new htc one.:highfive:

I noticed this when upgrading from sgs3 to sgs4 last month.
I've noticed it as well. I miss the days of the S2 and siyah kernel. KT is the closest kernel were going to get to that kind of features. With the S5 due out soon a lot if devs are going to move on. This will be my last samsung. I'm tired of Sammy's ugly and bloated FWs

I too miss the sgs2 and sgs3 days. This will also be my last galaxy phone... All this knox-bulls* and bloated firmwares. But which manufacturer should I go to? HTC? Where's most developer activity?

Hmm.. the biggest advantage, from my point of view, of nexus devices are, they'll rather have support for upcoming OSs such as Ubuntu, Mozilla etc. because of AOSP(drivers etc.). Samsung/HTC/Sony on the other side have always their customized Android OS, which is also a good thing because they have to be absolutely stable.
My SHV-E330S(same as I9506) has not less mods than my old S2. I would say, it has much more mods than S2.
The only difference - you wait when someone will do this for you, while i do it by myself.
Actually, i don't see what is interesting in using already made custom ROM which has be made in someone's specific taste.
Today, there are much more devices than before. Thus, concentration of developers for particular device is less and less. If you want to get something interesting for particular device, you have to become one of such developers.
Otherwise, just get Nexus - it already has naked Android which most people here is looking for.
The only thing i miss for my I9506 is the kernel developement. But if you think better why would you OC the Krait 400?Isn`t the fastest CPU avalaible on the market?A kernel with udervoltage feature enabled would be perfect. For the rest...if you have root you can make it all by yourself. There are a lot of tutorials on the market explaining how you can port a custom ROM and a lot of mods and themes ar compatible for this phone from I9505 thread and Note 3.For short...i`m very satisfied with my I9506.Way faster and less battery draining than I9505.I have them both!
If no-one is porting a rom from either the Xperia Z1, or from the Note 3 wich at least have the same CPU, i will probably look into how to do this myself.. I bought the i9506 yesterday and thought there would be a custom rom allready, but no.. My old Optimus 4X HD is still in use, cause i really hate the Samsung menu system!

Think no.. New samsung devices have a region lock by default..
If its a new device and is unlocked maybe, but u need to activate in your region for first use..
Dont know if device only run in US if ur friend activate the phone there..
If not, you'll need to unlock it and pray..
Other thing will be flash ur own firmwares but this will flag a 1 on knox void warranty efuse and cant receive OTAs..

Sadly the data plan network on our country have no HTC One supplies, i would to get hands on it really. Also I am shock by the mods and also CM, i though Galaxy Line are the modfest.
Yes, I agree on this also.
I had an S3 before and I have to say that Devs were going crazy making new Roms/Tweaks and kernels almost every day!
I thought the GS4 would be even more crazier but turns out that it isn't. Should've got that Nexus 5 :|

where are the developers?

Hello
I got my Note 3 on 01/12/2013, I was quite excited to own such a powerful device with specs that no competitor can match. So naturally I assumed that the device will attract a lot a of developer support, I did notice that the forums were running short of AOSP based ROMs and there were only a few TW based ROMS. However I thought things would pick up in the new year and more developers would come to the party......but that hasn't happened!!
So I have to ask, why is the Note 3 not getting enough developer support/interest? There is no OMNI, PA, AOKP, PAC, Slim ROMS. Even CM seems to be taking forever to officially release a nightly.
Why is nobody even interested in porting the above custom Roms? WHAT THE H3LL IS WRONG WITH THE NOTE 3?
At this point I am considering selling or swapping it for even a LG G2 or Nexus 5..... And i don't care about the stupid warranty if that's why most people are afraid. If i could port and maintain OMNI or PA or AOKP I would.....

There is a daily build being done by temasek and boy is it stable.. battery life is excellent also.
Pong has built a few daily builds also... he is doing well.
ProBAM AOSB is smooooth as.
PACMAN was pulled. BAM is still there... There's enough for now... Remember CM is still at a very very early stage for the Note, sources only been out a couple of weeks man give it time.
Maybe not a lot of devs would want to spend that much money on a phone. Maybe when it becomes more affordable then more devs will join in on the fun.
It's pointless to flash AOSP or CM or AOKP on this phone, since you lose so much functionality. The pen becomes dead weight. You lose multi window on apps. If you have flip cover, it just becomes a standard cover. etc. etc.
If you are going to use this phone, you are going to use Samsung's OS. That's it.

I doubt it's a money issue. i believe samsung really ruined it's relationship with the community, looking at the bricking bug that plagued the Note 1, i know @Entropy512 and @XpLoDWilD got pissed and left Samsung devices (no more team Hacksung) but i thought others would come to the party....

LOL! I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 too. But with the battery life I'm getting with that thing (I flew from Istanbul to USA for 12 hours, I used it non-stop and when I landed, I still had 25% left), I'll never flash another ROM on it.
Not much people will flash CM/AOKP/AOSP/PA and etc in Note series as it is downgrade the phone. Thus not many such developer on it.

I'm a MIUI lover, been with that ROM on all my note's and S devices. I have strong hope it will come eventually, for now CM with MiLauncher. Gotta love CM too because it really makes this device really snappy.
