Reasons to consider Cyanogenmod for Xperia Tipo - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

REASONS TO CONSIDER CYANOGENMOD ON XPERIA TIPO
NB: I AM WRITING THIS IN ORDER TO HELP THOSE WHO ARE THINKING ABOUT USING A CUSTOM ROM FOR THE FIRST TIME.
Well, it has been a few weeks I have played with 3 most promising ROMs for Tipo - Cyanogenmod, AOKP& Z-Fusion.
All of them were better than the stock ROM provided by Sony. Out of the 3, CM was was the most stable(atleast for my phone).
AOKP offered more control over the ROM but it froze more often in tipo. Z-Fusion was visually good(very good job done with the interface) but it lacked some controls offered by CM.
Now one can ask, why CM? Whats wrong with the beautiful firmware by Sony?
Well, there is nothing wrong with the official firmware but it is a heavy burden on the memory. The UI is eye-catching but it takes a lot of memory for the tiniest details, whereas CM has a simple and neat UI( the Trebuchet Launcher, gotta love it!!!) which is very lightweight and fast and responsive. The control over the behaviour of the ROM is what appeals the most. Starting from the lockscreen to its CPU, everything under your control. Lots of customization option available for the user.
The best thing about Cyanogenmod is that the in built apps are very memory friendly. In tipo, after a fresh and clean installation you get about 600 mb of phone memory. The original firmware of a new phone offers 450-500 mb of phone memory( it depends on region, 450-500 in my region). So those who are fanatic about their phone memory should try out CM as it is the most stable out there for tipo.
Hope this is useful to some extent.
I'm currently using CM10 (FXP212) and it is running very smooth.

I want to make a few comments to this:
- custom ROMs are overall a little bit less stable, especially if they're still in development phase, which all of Tipo's custom ROMs are. Although CM is quite stable since the few last updates.
- Z-Fusion is still based on an older CM10 build. That's where the partial lesser features come from. There have been some updates in the CM10 project since Z-Fusion released.
- AOKP is FAR from done.
Honestly in my opinion you should also cover some the downsides of Custom ROMs when you post something like this, because it isn't really objective like this.
I do agree CM10 FXP project is a wonderful project, but it was also the first so it had more time to advance and evolve into a great ROM. Give the other ROMs a chance.
Also, are you planning to add more ROMs to your review?
Regards, Drago

I really appreciate your opinions
This post was meant for upsides of the ROMs. However, I will make another post to point out the demerits.
Thanks for encouraging me.

thank you and i saw Cyanogenmod work more fluently than stock rom and i'm thinking install Cyanogenmod in my tipo and install a custom rom have compatibility with locked bootloader xD

I'm thinking to install CM10 on my Tipo, but still have my doubts, because I can't find any info about the pro's on the net.
Is it really really faster then the stock ?
At this point, my phone is really laggy at some point (stock). Even, when all the unneeded apps are deleted.
When I type a message, my phone laggs almost everytime.
That's why I was looking at the freexperia project, but yeah, warranty void :/
That's a big downside for me...

If you are looking for laggless rom stay away from fxp, at least for now because stock i much faster than cm for this day (fxp214).
I recommend you to use gimlo rom with pimp my rom tweak (aroma version) it makes tipo much faster.
To tell the diffrence here are quadrant benchmark results i got:
Fxp 214 ~1000pts
Gimlo 0.3 ~1500pts
Gimlo 0.3 + Pimp my rom ~1700pts

Try FXP221. U will find how great fxp rom now

How is FXP_222_tapioca_ss?

I didnt update from 221
Read the FXP thread, I have heard that the new versions are having some screen bugs and headphone bugs.
As of 221, its very stable. Just one bug i.e. Loudspeaker for calls is not working.

Going to try it. But just tell me this - I have made a nandroid backup. After I install cm10 and I don't like it. Can I restore fully using the nandroid backup?

I dont know if the nandroid will work to go back to stock rom
Do some research, I am sure someone can help you

Cwm is returning Everything, as I try it, you can go back from CM 10 to ICS but I'm on CM10 right now and I'm using it as daly drive. Loudspeaker is fixed and I think the headphones but that I didn't check.

[q] best custom rom for sony xperia arc s

What's the best custom rom for Sony Xperia arc S? I am using Cyanogenmod 7.2 RC2 actually, and I'm glad, but I would like to try something based on ICS. I have already tested Cyanogenmod 9, but it's very unstable and after few days for example Wi-Fi refused to get a dynamic adress. Could you suggest me some roms based on ICS? I want the rom to be fast, smooth and with overclock possibility. I have been using BoostHD rom for about 2 hours, but it didn't satisfy me.
There are no best rom. There are some ICS-themed roms avaidable, try one of those. On the page of the developer can you read the bugs. Try some roms in your phone's forum. But real ICS rom's are mostly not stable yet

sony has released the official ics for xperia s now, no custom roms are very stable yet, still to many bugs
I'm not gonna come back to the stock rom, because it's laggy and it simply sucks. So... Could you suggest me a ICS theme for Cyanogenmod? The one from Google Play developed by Sonny Sekhon isn't compatible with arc S.

I dont want to be mean but.. Have you watched the Noob on xda video when you registered? Because the guy there says that there are no best roms. This forum is about testing new things and finding out which one is the best for you.
According to him , you are lazy.
Cheers.
I am not damned lazy. I have already tried a lot of custom roms on arc S, but I don't know if there is a stable ics one. I just wanted to know your opinion. It thought you would suggest me something, but as I see there are on this forum buffoons only. You are a good example of such people.

Because of the controversy and arguments they inevitably generate, "best ROM" threads are prohibited on XDA. Thread closed.

Which is the most stable Jelly Bean Rom any idea?

Hello guys,
I have recently moved on to official ICS but I heard JB is far more smoother than ICS. I can see there are number of JB custom roms available through the superb effort of our developers. Thing is I am kind of confuse which way to go. In JB I am looking for a stable completly working ROM, which I can rely to use on daily basis for long term.
Some suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers.

I'm not sure if you could say it's fully working, but I know plenty of people here are using Andromedus as a daily ROM. I think there's a new build coming out soon, but read the thread to find what people are having best success with.
bnd just ported yet another JB ROM over too. Best way is just to try some out. Personally, I love JB but I went back to ICS (the ICE_DS ROM) because I've had a lot of sound issues with Andromedus in all the builds I've tried.
Hope that helps!

I think the best is just to try a few. As you can see in their threads and changelogs every rom still has its limitations. also check out www.blindndumb.com for some awesome (jb and ics) roms for our device
Thanks guys for advices n link. I for sure read lot more n may be try couple of JB roms as well before I stick to one. May be better to do little more research n wait. I hope recently released ics source could facilitate few things for developers. Finger crossed

I use Blindbean for now (not the new one available now) and I like it.
Since I use Jellybean, I don't wanna go back to GB or ICS, to much of a difference.
I mainly make phonecalls and use internet, so I don't really care about camera, pictures, games, music, ...
And for now, it holds up to my expectations. There are off-course some bugs, but for a phone that's that old already, I can deal with that.
(hell, I bought a Xperia U, because the stock HTC desireS was giving up on me, so when I got the Xperia, I could begin to experiment with root/roms and stuff, and now, the newer xperia is on the closet, and I use the HTC again (spec-wise, the desireS and xperia U aren't that different.)
I used to have BlindICE in its latest edition with which I was satisfied, but I've changed to JB with Codename Android and recently JellyTime, both from blindndumb. They are so smooth, I really can't come back either. But I'm also a bit lost concerning the differences between all of these JB roms. From what I saw, none of the 2 were really stable. In Jellytime, video playback can be glitchy, pictures have a green/purple line at the bottom and browsing with chrome shows weird artefacts. Other than that, they work fine. What changes visually in AOKP and CM10 are the ROM menus.

so what do you think which one looks better CM10 or AOKP?
Try both, it's a personal choice
As you can see I am on Androdamus, which is cm10
Tapatalked from Desire S running Androdamus
I run JellyTime R15 as daily, no bugs that are important to the grand scheme of things.
A few weeks ago I tested Andromedus and the latest CM10, and they didn't have FM radio tuner. I listen to the radio almost everyday, so FM radio support is kind of important. This is mostly the reason why I'm still not using Jelly Bean. That and some other little things I enjoy and didn't find, like "render effect", automatic screen brightness control, launcher settings...
I'm kind of new to the ROM flashing scene... Is FM radio one of the last things to become functional on a ROM? Do any of the other ROMs have working FM? I guess it's not a very high-priority item.
I guess I could try to setup a script to automatically download the radio show I listen to, after it's available on the radio station website, then send it to dropbox or something.
I'm usually a very patient guy, waiting for a final release, but it's becoming harder and harder to wait.
edit: By the way, I'm using CM7.2 now
As long as the camera doesn't work I won't use JB Roms.

Should not try Jelly Bean now for Desire S since it is not so stable.

Well I've recently swapped to BnD Jelly time and I'm impressed. I've been using Niks CM10 for months and decided to try a kernel 3 ROM. I can't see myself swapping again as Jelly time seems the better daily driver IMO.
I also want to try this Jelly Time but just being cautious, are there any particular bugs you can tell or anything about this Rom or it also has Google Now in it right?!!

Camera works fine in Jelly Time, works perfectly if you download JB Camera+ app.
I personally use CM10 with my Galaxy Mini. Everything works perfectly, but seems there is a problem with the native tethering of both type. 3rs party software solved the problem.

Yes it has everything, including now. The small bugs I've noticed are the brightness sensor is a little laggy, takes a little longer to correct it self to ambient light. Chrome sometimes gets a little buggy, Netflix isnt perfect, front camera doesn't work, video recording is broken and I'm sure there are other small issues I've yet to notice.
None of the above is a deal breaker for me, as we have an increasingly unpopular phone we will always have to expect some issues as a price to pay for the latest os versions.
do we have cm10 for Desire S also?

It depends what are you expecting from rom. I'm need 100% working, everything. I was annoyed by half-working led, front camera and other little bugs it had. Now I'm on stock JB with the newest Vengeance kernel and it's as fast as CM10 with all tweaks, soo... my decision for now is stock JB. It runs as fast as CM10 and has everything working.
I should also admit, that decided to sell my Xperia J.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is no better or worse. It is all personal preference. The performance of a ROM depends on what the user installs, it is nothing to do with the ROM itself, you will have to experiment to see what works the best for you.

yes my XJ is CM10 on FXP241 ,and its great for RAM.. even after running temple run/angry birds. games still has 120 MB free mem.
I supercharged it with zepplinrox Supercharging scripts http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 ( I cried for some 30mins after opening this link .. its that clean )
Another thing I want to share is about the Brilliant work gavster and matej has done for XJ ROM scene. AVD rom is lightening snappy and gives even better results with vengeance kernel .
Vengeance kernel doesnt have CWM integrated thats only thing I missed..There are many missing feature in stock rom that cm10 has.
So choose accordingly..

You are right on that GB is featureless compared to ICS/JB but Xperia j was not made for ICS or JB,or at least sony could give us a GB fw it's just to slow.I'm using gavster's custom rom and my phone is a bit faster but...thats not it.well i'm still on locked bootloader so maybe when i unlock it will be faster.
