Hi I noticed that for a while now that my email is not refreshing automatically anymore, I think it was convinient that the device made a sound everytime I got a new email, any ideas what might have changed?
Ps: Can you stop the sound when the battery is low, I really dont need a asian lady with a heavy accent telling me this ^^
thx in advance!

Check your email Sync settings? Not sure what the asian lady thing is about. Lol
Asian lady? What asian lady? Mine only ever beeps when it's low on battery...
Is this a battery saver setting, by any chance?
As for the email, sbdags is most likely right, check the sync settings.
Asian lady? NIMBY!
J/K, obviously, but I've never heard an Asian lady tell me the battery is running low, even the relatively short period I was running stock. Third party app?
And indeed you should take a look under Settings > Accounts> Google and see if there's something awry with the E-mail syncing (I've had a few errors in there, especially concerning Calendar sync, but you never know).

Well you are right I checked accounts and indeed there is something wrong with synch, however it says it will fix itself in a while but it has been a few weeks now. Also my Hotmail won't synch either so it is not just Google.

It didn't fix itself in my case -- I had to manually remove my account (I may have rebooted subsequently) and then re-add it. You might give that a try. It did correct itself one way or the other in the end, but it took my inetrvention.
Oh, and Tasks syncing screwed up as well: it needs to be granted access to Google Tasks explicitly -- I must admit that took me a minute to find out.

YAY!!! Slow using GPRS, but thats to be expected. Just glad it works.
interesting...am gonna try now
It doesn't seem to be working properly for me. When I tell it to show all my mail, it only shows 10 messages, not the 70 or so I have in my gmail. doesn't anyone else have this problem? By the way I'm using a Fuze.
it does not work for me. Suddenly calendar-sync doesn't work, too. Getting an 0x85010016-error. Any hints?
I got that error before as well but keep trying, I think they are still having some problems with it or maybe their server is a bit slow right now probably because of everyone trying it .. but it does eventually work..
working great for me now.
It did hickup earlier but all cam right on the last sync, now seem to be fine.
It's early days, but a great step in the right direction.
seems to be going up and down. I got it to work as far as syncing and getting my email but no push yet.
I have got the calender and contacts work, but when i tick the email it fails? any ideas or is anybody else having this problem?
Working fine here.
It was slow last night, but guess that is down to the initial load on googles servers

Was it not letting you sync at all? or was it connected but just slow.
Also was there a setting in gmail?
It's working for me - only problem I've got is the email tab in TF3D does not show the account and the new email button doesn't use it?
Any ideas?

I am using gmail with the m.google.com/sync already, what should I change to use the push function ?
go to programs -. activesync -> options -> exchange and check email.
Hmm, maybe I'm just shortsighted, but I'm not seeing how this is useful. Gmail already offers free POP3 support, so you can setup email on your phone to get emails from your Gmail account. Even if you don't like such a thing, Google also offers a J2ME Gmail app for use.
So is there something I'm missing or am I misunderstanding what 'push email' is?
The best you can do with POP/IMAP is check eevery 5 minutes - which may be "instant" enough BUT that will eat up data (even if there is nothing to download) and battery.
With push you'll pull a message when it's available but not be using data checking when there isn't.

Hmm, I see. So it's an issue of how fast you receive a email from your account and data usage. Alright, I understand now. Thank you for the response.
It still doesn't work if I enable email-sync. Without email all my events becomes pushed and synced. Don't know why there is that error...
I had errors too, but I tried to sync only calendar and contacts and then I added emails too. It works good now.
But everytime I setup new sync connection it makes problems, so I think it is necessary to try it several times...
mine still isnt working, it wont full sync when i have the emails checked
the funny thing is i tested it on my girlfriends N97 with my details and it worked a treat
i want it even more now
I just noticed that I hadn't gotten any emails in a while on my N1. So I checked Gmail on my computer and it showed 5 new emails that I hadn't seen. Digging a little deeper, I found that the gmail app on my phone hasn't successfully synced in the last 24 hours and I also can't access any past emails other than those that are already shown in my inbox(it won't load any that aren't already on the phone, gives a "Network Issue" error). What's even more strange is everything else on the phone works perfectly and even the number of new emails is updated in the gmail app, it just won't download the emails themselves. Is anyone else having these problems?
I just checked mine and it is up to date. In fact, I am usually getting a notification of gmail on my N1 before it shows up on gmail web site or indicated by Gtalk.
Hopefully, your issue is temporary and the 'network issue' will go away.
....and fixed. I still have no idea what was going wrong but going into the manage applications settings menu and clearing the data on gmail and gmail storage fixed it. Hopefully this issue doesn't get too widespread, cause no non-tech savvy person would ever be able to figure that out.
Alright, it turns out this is a really big freaking deal(as far as I can test it anyway). Any time I try to attach pictures to an email and send it, it causes this. And there's no way to undo it that I can find other than manually clearing the data in Gmail Storage.
...And from looking at the logcat, It gets a file not found exception when trying to load the attachment. I'm using a fresh picture taken from the camera to test it so this looks like a pretty big bug. I'll poke around a bit more though.
After a bit more testing, this only happens pictures taken from the camera for some reason. Can anyone else confirm that this happens for them too?
Alright, I think I got this(at least partway) figured out. It wasn't all pictures but just a couple specific ones. For some reason, there are some pictures that I took yesterday with my Nexus One that didn't actually get saved anywhere(I'm not sure how it even knows they exist, or where it's finding the image). The image I was trying was one of those, but trying another one that did get saved worked perfectly. So I guess this is less an issue with gmail and more an issue with the camera not always saving pictures correctly. Gmail just completely chokes when you attach a file that doesn't actually exist.
Hmmm...
My gmail hadnt synced for several hours today.
Rebooted..seems ok now.
I did actually send an attachement from a note pad application to myself last night.
No idea what the correlation is if any.
Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but if you are actively logged in to gmail (say, from a desktop) while accessing your gmail on your phone, the results are somewhat wonky and unpredictable.
I've seen this issue on my G1 and it continues on my N1.
I experinced this issue also. The issue seemed to exist across reboots. For some reason I was convinced that the issue had something to do with facebook syncing. I deleted that account and the problem went away. But know that I think about it, I did try emailing a picture that I had just taken right before I noticed the problem(emailed straight from the camera app), and I know that email did not go through. Hmm, definitely sounds like a bug somewhere.

I've been having sync issues too. I don't really do much with email, mostly receiving and I find myself having to refresh manually, all the time. It has been about 3-4 days or so. It worked perfectly at first...
Here was my problem: check settings and then the sync menu. It says something & sync. My auto sync was unchecked. Working great now!
Been having sync issues, posting in a thread about it over on the google support boards. Not major to me, just annoying and hope it gets resolved.
Thank you so much for the detailed responses about this Marcus. I thought I had messed up gmail with my theme, but then I read this thread and remembered that I had tried to send a picture through gmail immediantly after taking it, and after clearing data for gmail and gmail storage, it worked again.
So again, thank you, that is one less bug I have to deal with my theme causing.
I've had this issue when trying to email "large" (over 2MB'ish, as a rough guess) files.
Okay, so i have the HTC Arrive now, and i really like the phone, great UI, Amazing keyboard, not as quick on the data as my LG Quantum but still fast, but the Gmail, i dont know what is going on with the gmail on here, i have my gamil signed into my Quantum with no problem, but when i try to sign in to the app and have my gmail on my arrive it tells me that the info is incorrect... i really am getting frustrated with that :/
any oppinions or ideas?
Ive taken the battery out and deleted the gmail acct off the phone, yet still no gmail...
How can i fix this?
Are you just setting it up as an exchange account on the phone or using some gmail app from the marketplace?
I'm using gmail simply via exchange and it works no problem.

I had this same problem when I first got my Arrive. Needless to say it frustrated the CRAP out of me. I tried everything and after several resets and whatnot I finally figured the solution, it's not the most desirable but it worked for me.
I had to change my gmail password on a computer or IE on the phone, then try. It then worked and I changed my password back and updated the account info on my phone.
Try this and let me know if it works for you!
It does that the first couple of times, each time giving you more options to change, but on the third time it will give you the option to set the Exchange server address(m.google.com). As soon as you put that in and retry it connects and starts syncing. I haven't figured out how to set the server address without first failing twice.
Why is the last couple days my Gmail will not check for mew mail? Stock rooted with update done yesterday. I have to open Gmail and refresh and get all my mail I've been missing all day. Doesn't makes sense since it was working before the last couple days. I have 3 accounts setup to sync and none are working.

Weird, my gmail is no longer updating automatically either. But it is working on my tablet.
EDIT: Well, I checked my account settings under Settings > Accounts and Sync and somehow my gmail, calendar and contacts magically got unchecked.
I had not heard that it does more bad than good, can you point me to a discussion thread on it?

Google Talk. Google's chat service. It shows in your app drawer as "Talk". If you've ever noticed, when you access gmail on a computer, you're automatically signed into Google Talk. I was told a while ago in the past (when I owned a captivate) that Talk is what the phone may use to communicate with Google servers (makes sense), but not completely sure. By no means is gmail buggy or have issues because 99% of the time it syncs perfectly and without problems. My time period where it didn't sync was the first time it ever happened since I've had my Inspire (since February). My gmail has since returned to normal.
Do you have a task killer that's possibly interfering?
Are notifications enabled? (in gmail settings - "notify in status bar when mail arrives")

Still having issues with my Gmail syncing. I had no issues for the first few weeks I had phone, but now it is rare that push actually works. I have verified all settings are correct. I had issues on my iphone with email syncing also, so I changed to fetch emails every 15 mins on that to make it useful still. I don't see an option for that on the gmail app though.

That's really weird. The Gmail app has always worked for me, and very well at that (and on different devices). My GF's gmail app works just as well and she uses the Infuse. The only thing I can think of at this point is to go to the gmail application info page (via manage applications) and "clear data. Verify all of the settings again, reboot, and see what happens.

I do have advanced task killer but its not enabled at all. My gmail settings and notifacations are all set correctly.
Gtalk was logged in on my main account. I dont think that has anything to do with this problem though. I have 3 accounts setup and it worked fine for a little bit there before noticing the problem. If it was linked, i would have 3 loggins!
The gmail app has always worked fine for me also, UNTIL getting this phone! Sux

Well, good luck. Let me know what ends up working. Something will.
Almost every message I get with the built in email app using Microsoft ActiveSync with my office Exchange server comes 5-10 minutes after the message's time-stamp. Coming from the iPhone 4S & Galaxy Nexus where every message was delivered within seconds, this is becoming a major concern. The GMail app is better (though not perfect) as messages usually arrive within a minute. I tried playing with the settings in the Email app and made sure that push was activated for both peak and off peak hours but the issues remains. Does anyone else have these issues and if so, is there any way to fix it? Thanks in advance.

I've struggled to fix this as well. The only advice i've gotten was to try a 3rd party app. I still have my e-mail setup on my old iPhone and my iPad, both get the e-mails pushed within a second of each other. My HOX can vary between 5-45 mins before it gets delivered. I have several exchange e-mails, all of them exhibit the same thing. I have a similar experience on my HP tablet that is running CM9. Judging by the number of threads that have complained about this, it seems that iOS simply handles Activesync better than Android. I'm still enjoying everything else about the HOX.

I really hope so, hopefully a fix can be found soon.
there is nothing to fix, it's a feature called SmartSync.
Go to Email setting, sync schedule change it Push, default is SmartSync.
More frequent you open email app, the more frequent the sync.
Check your sync settings. HTC uses a couple different things with Sync to improve battery life. One of them is peak hours. It'll push during "peak hours" and then switch to every 2 hours outside of them. They also have a smart-sync setting that I believe will sync more frequently in relation to how often you open and close the actual Mail app.
Check those settings first.
Thanks, i double checked everything and both peak and off peak are both set to Push. The phone isn't throwing any errors nor is exchange management console. I'll see how it performs today and give an update. So far this morning it has been pushing pretty consistently.
As I said in my OP, both peak and off-peak are set to push and NOT smartsync. That's not the issue.
I've gotten it to recieve @ about 5 minutes but that's as good as it gets for now...
side note I've gotten some really good LTE numbers in ATL... 42mbps
Go and get Touchdown in the market.
Problem solved.
I had to disable the Gmail app completely for my Gmail account to work with Microsoft exchange through the email app.
It was giving me errors with my syncing but I had to use google due to the play store etc.

Yeah I'm having problems with my gmail account as well. When I check to see if its synced it shows a red circle and apparently the sync isn't working so it's not just about push email its the syncing to google account. Not sure what the problem is. Im thinking it has something to do with the WiFi connection. It might break and its causing interruption in the sync

I'm going to try leaving it on LTE for a little while...I have a feeling it might be an issue with the Wifi connection when the screen is off.
I'm experiencing a delay, as well. It's almost like Smartsync is still on even when it's off. My delays have been in the realm of a minute in most cases, but it's frustrating to hear new e-mails come in on my iPad and other phones and have this one get them last. It's such a great phone and this is such an important feature.
Quick update...If you go to your advanced wifi settings there is an option for Best Wifi Performance that is off by default. Since I enabled that, my push notifications seem to be coming in more quickly. I need to give it some more time to know for sure but so far so good!

This is what I did. So far, it's working 100%.
Please know, this will only work if you DON'T use the Gmail app.
1. Factory wiped the phone. Once started up, do not add your Google account yet.
2. Go into Settings and Apps and disable all your bloatware while you're here and make sure you disable the Gmail app. When you get out of it, it'll reload Sense. After this, go ahead and reboot your phone to be safe.
3. Now go ahead and go to Settings and Accounts and add your Google account. With Gmail disabled, it will not sync your email. Your choice if you want to sync Contacts.
4. Next, setup your Gmail via Microsoft Exchange via server method. Email and Username is your full email address. Leave Domain blank. The server address is m.google.com
5. When finished, set it up Push Email and not Smart Sync. If you did not sync your Contacts via Google, you can do it here also. Same with Calendar and Tasks.
Done!

K-9 is not working for me, but Gmail is. haven't tried changing anything yet, just hopped on to see.
Really need some reliable push email. Might ditch K-9 and see if the native client works, but k-9 worked so great on the SGS2, I went to it straight away.
I'm also having push problems using the native gmail app. I posted in the other thread so won't repeat here but just wanted to check in in case somebody from HTC or att is reading these threads.
