[Q] Star S5 MTK6589 Root - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
Just got my Star S5 in the mail, while I'm in the process of removing all chinese bloatware, I'm hitting a wall here. To remove baidu I need root (which i want anyway, actually), but I can't seem to boot into cwm-recovery after creating my own with smart phone flash tools and mtk droid root & tools. None of the other options listed online work either! Is there a secret button combination or something to get into recovery or does smart phone flash tools SAY it flashed the boot.img and recovery.img but doesn't it actually do it?
Pressing vol+ and power, then when green android pops up on screen releasing power but holding vol+ doesn't work (it just continues to boot regularly)!
Edit: ninonirvana's solution below worked to get into CWM.. however, flashing the superuser-binary doesn't work on android 4.2 and up. I had to use SuperSU, everything works now!

Hello, I have accessed the recovery as follows, nexus4toolkit in this reboot options menu No. 21 No. 4 after reboot recovery and already

Hi, you can put a link of recovery and how to root? thanks
---------- Post added at 01:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 PM ----------
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2215393 you can use this tool to restar in to recovery

I can't seem to find the tutorial I used yesterday (it was today, actually, 2.30am) but I read back the original scatter-file and rom with mtk droid root & tools, afterwards I used spflashtool SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0.119 to read back the original rom (cache-HEX as endpoint) and used mtk droid root & tools again to create my new boot.img and recovery.img. Lastly, i followed this <<USE SUPERSU INSTEAD OF SUPERUSER>> tutorial, flashing only my newly created recovery.img and boot.img, after using your nexus toolkit to get into cwm. I backed up my rom now AND rooted, so all is well
NOTE: as stated above, using superuser doesn't work on android 4.2 and up, you should flash superSU instead!

I know this phone is new and I may get it in the future, once the rooting process is is figured out for MT6589, it may be useful for other phones with the same chip. Can someone write a simple step-by-step instructions on how to root it for others so there won't be a bunch of scattered threads and questions about the same thing. Thanks in advance!

It is no one key root tool for android 4.1 or android 4.2. I think the best way for root the phone is flashing the phone with rooted ROM if it exists

ı manage to root S5...ı found correct recovery with scatter file link below. But its china language but not ımportant ıt works..
first intall super su and copy to sd card after flash recovery.img with flash tool
to flash the the supersu to the phone you must enter the recovery (that you flashed with flash tool...) but power and volume + is not working so we can enter the recovery with a program like nexus 4 toolkit or Android Toolkit

Hi,
Just came back, wanted to flash the recovery - but I can't seem to the MT65xx Preloader to install (I'm on windows 8 64 bit) - is there something special I need to do to install them? (I used the ones from GizBeat Combo for the H7500+ MT6589 drivers) - it just won't install the VCOM even if I select it by myself - it says it has not signtature - what am I doing wrong?

Hi again,
I've managed (finally to trick windows 8 into installing the vcom...) to flash the chiniese green recovery - but I have no idea how to navigate and what option to choose - since I saw SD I went to that one and clicked with the power button - writes something in chinese in white and does nothing? Am I doing something wrong in here? Is there a special way to navigate that recovery?
Shoud I have placed the supersu zip in a specific folder? rename it perhaps to update.zip or something like that?
Thank you again for all your help

If you post a screenshot of the recovery menus, then we could get someone who understands Chinese to do a line-by-line translation. Or maybe even Google Translate

Thank you, but I already managed to flash the supersu - thank you anyway.
After rooting the device I pushed the NetworkLocation.apk into system/app - but to no avail - I still can't get any google location.
Does anybody know what can be done?

Would someone PLEASE be so kind to put up a 100% secure tutorial?
I really dont want to get an expensive brick to throw out of the window...
Maybe with video, or much screenshots... That would be great!

[Q] [Solved] Noob Root Questions - Seeking Guidance

Hello all,
I know everyone hates people who post without searching the forums first, but I did and I am still very lost on what all I need to do to root my device and get going flashing ROMs with the new 2.20 Root Method.
I have used this thread to get me started (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684382&highlight=root+guide) and I have already downloaded Android SDK from google + Platform-tools + Google USB Driver but I don't want to get going on root because in the instructions from 2.20 Root it states:
10. After unlocking the bootloader, you can flash a custom recovery partition via fastboot, boot into recovery mode, and use a recovery ADB shell or install from an update.zip to install Superuser and su (I do not provide support for custom recoveries, but this is a straightforward process that other people can help with).
I have searched the above linked thread and cannot determine how to generate a custom recovery partition (unless I did when I used the command "adb -backup all" in the platform-tools folder of the Android SDK..Furthermore, I do not know what "Superuser and su" is referencing.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, I dont mind doing the reading myself but I have gotten bogged down in the details. Basically, I want to save all of you the trouble of another noob who has bricked their phone because they didn't do their homework. Thanks all for your help!

I second this request. I feel like there are loads of helpful threads but after searching for a long time I don't see anything that leads someone new to Android rooting from stock 2.2 to having something like CM10 on their device. All of the write-ups I've found assume more experience than I have. Is there a general guide somewhere that I'm missing? Maybe something that explains rooting, backing up, flashing, etc. from start to finish where we can replace "this is where you root your device" with the new rooting method? I'm assuming it's out there but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

You don't need to "generate" anything, not sure where you got that terminology from. Just install Goomanager from the Play Store and use that to install TWRP recovery.

In plain terms a superuser = a root user. But when discussed here, it usually references the app that manages what other apps have root access.
Superuser is required to perform root functions.
You can obtain the app various ways, all discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954361

They are many simple tutorials for rooting but do not know why you guys having hard time. Ok here is
1) You got Android SDK from google + Platform-tools + Google USB Driver -
2) Only for windows - Download htc sync ( It will install necessary htc drivers) - Link
3) Just to check if htc drivers installed properly , open "C:\android-sdk\platform-tools" ( Or folder where adb and fastboot exists) then "Press shift + right click and select "Open command window here" ( open command prompt and cd "folder where adb and fastboot exists).
4) In command window type " adb devices" and see output - If you get output then htc drivers installed properly.
You can skip step 3 and step 4 - These steps are only for verification
5) Goto [ROOT] HTC One X AT&T 2.20 Firmware - X-Factor root exploit and follow the instructions there.
6) Once you successfully root your device using above exploit then goto - [How To] Flash Custom recovery and ROMS after 2.20 root complete the steps to flash custom recovery and if you want to flash ROMS
7) To unlock BOOT LOADER use this link - [INDEX] AT&T/ROGERS One X Resources Compilation Roll-Up , follow the instructions under " BOOTLOADER UNLOCK, SUPER CID, AND S-OFF"
You can also goto this link - [ROOT][2.20] One XL Bootloader unlock & Root guide By XsMagical - Very nice tutorial, if you find above links difficult to follow
Note* : During exploit or flashing recovery they talk about using fastboot commands, In order to execute them you need goto C:\android-sdk\platform-tools" ( Or folder where adb and fastboot exists) then "Press shift + right click and select "Open command window here" ( open command prompt and cd "folder where adb and fastboot exists) and then execute the commands ..
Advice - Do not flash any roms apart from xda
Thank you, abhipati. I haven't seen any simple tutorials that are complete. Everything seems to assume the user knows how to do something mentioned in another thread, which in turn seems to assume something else. Your post seems like a very clear start-to-finish explanation. Maybe it should be made into a stickie in Q&A. I can surely handle step 1 but maybe that could be explained (or at least a link added to an appropriate thread).
If all this is out there somewhere already then I certainly didn't know where to find it. I appreciate your help.

No problem.
Regarding step 1)
1) Download Android SDK from here {For Windows}
2) Download java you need it - here
Thank you all for helping gather some resources for me that I know are up to date etc. - Thankfully I do know a few unix commands so that I can navigate the command prompt aspects...I'm sure these threads get annoying so thank you very much for getting a new-to-root user up and running. I'll try this all later this evening and throw an update to let you all know how it goes -- hopefully no "bricked my phone" thread in the future
Excellent I have successfully unlocked my bootloader and achieved perm-root! Now on to flashing roms and I have some questions:
1) I have read GuyIncognito's instructions here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952076) on Flashing ROMs and how to go about doing that and i fully understand the process but I want to confirm (Yes I Have TWRP recovery installed and running) I only need to extract the boot.img out of the winRAR file of the ROM that I downloaded? (CM10 seems to be popular so I'm starting with that as my first ROM) There are so many other files in the package and I'm wondering why do you only need the boot.img file to be present with your adb and fastboot files from the google dev SDK -- the boot.img is only 5 MB and I can hardly believe that it constitutes the whole OS?
2) How do I go about installing gapps after I have flashed my ROM? I have downloaded Gapps so I have the file...do I place it in my SD Card and then enter recovery to install it? or Do have to use adb to flash it
Edit: I also have Superuser app on my stock ROM right now
Any further help is much appreciated, thank you very much.
Boot.img is technically just the kernel, it's the heart of the OS you are installing. Once extracted, rezip rom. Flash boot.img first using fastboot command prompt. Then flash the Rom itself that you rezipped through twrp
You can easily just flash gapps through twrp.

1) Copy CM10 zip and Gapps zip into phone storage
2) Follow GuyIncognito's instructions on flashing boot.img
3) Boot into recovery AFTER Flashing boot.img
4) Select "Install" in TWRP
5) Install CM10 zip First
6) Install Gapps zip next
7) Reboot
8) profit?

happy flashing
Alright Looks like I successfully flashed CM10! I flashed gapps with it at the same time but I have run into a problem -- It keeps telling me that all these gapps processes have failed and I have no access to a keyboard! Do I have to reflash gapps?
Hmm ok I think I messed up here....
My phone was essentially non-functional with CM10 -- Nothing worked and it took me a while to navigate to enable USB Debugging on the given mod. One I enabled USB Debugging in CM10 I ran the following:
adb reboot recovery
Once I was in recovery, I Restored a backup of my device that I made BEFORE I obtained permanent root via the toolkit as it was recommended during this time to make a recovery.
Recovery worked successfully, now after reboot it hangs on the HTC screen and then goes black, then reboots again, and again, and again...
I haven't been able to use the volume down + power button to even get back into the bootloader.....hopefully I am not screwed here...Any suggestions?

Yes that would make sense, but the problem is A) How do I access that backup's .img file? B) How can I enter bootloader again? It won't let me using Power+Vol Down, no matter how long I hold it for --- unless I need to hold it longer?
You have to hold it till the buttons flash and goes black... Hold for about 2-3 more seconds and release the power button, but keep the volume down held until you get to a white hboot screen. (it'll have three skating droids)

Ok got it, did a factory reset then re-flashed CM10 boot.img...Flashed CM10 BY ITSELF this time, without doing gapps at the same time, rebooted into recovery after CM10 rolled up, then flashed gapps alone, everything is working smoothly! Now, time to restore my apps
Panicked momentarily, but now I'm back at it.
THANK YOU EVERYONE! Huge ups to all of you for helping a noob find his way

[Q] Rooting Samsung Galaxy Star Pro Duos (GT-S7262)

I got this phone as a gift just recently and I have found it to be a very good device for a great price, but at times, I feel like it can go even more to hiigher potentials if it can be rooted. Since it's a new phone, there are no tutorials for it on the internet. The phone runs Android 4.1.2 stock w/ TouchWiz.
I'll be ready to give any information possible to help in the rooting of this device. I would love it if some of the developers here could make this happen, I'd be the happiest Android user in the world!

11. Above mentioned universal root as well
Trust me I have forgotten others
Method untried:
Spreadtrum Debug tool "ResearchDownload" (Reason: I dont want to end up with a bricked phone and too complex)
Lessons Learnt:
Samsung has shipped this phone with this "KERNEL-INS-S7262XXUAMJ3-1381823311.tar", which has patch for all security vulnerability defined in X-ray that why rooting didnt work. ( I Guess)
My state:
I have run around all through internet like a lunatic and hasnt slept for 5 days properly ended up with my head banging against wall.
Over all very nice experience in learning Android. I am going to sell this device if no help available.
Phone state:
Phone has lost its stock recovery mode(Volume Up+Power Buttons which used to work earlier). It boots only into downloading mode (Vol Dwn+Home+Power Buttons).
Other Functions working normally I guess
Request:
Can some one help in rooting this phone.
Or Can some one direct me in making a root and Custom recovery and Custom ROM for this phone.
Thanks to all the developers in the above mentioned list and numerous tutorials for all phones written for noobs (like me)
Dev's please help!!!

Use odin 3.07 to flash boot.img and firmware from the samsung-updates.com (if u really want latest firmware, download stock from site)
Don't use the spreadtrum tool unless you have proper recovery.img with CWM mod in it and know what you are doing. The chance to brick the device is higher.
If you still want to go for it here is the tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2165554
Also you cannot create CWM recovery (As far as I know, guide me if it is possible) in windows platform or using cygwin or Linux virtual machines. You need to have ubuntu 13.XX to be installed to begin with.
@yuvinderkumar
There are no CWM recovery (Custom Recovery) or Cyangenmod (Firmware) available for this phone. So I strongly advise to stop cross flashing recovery.img unless you are 100% sure of what you are doing.
This mobile comes with all security vulenarability patched, hence trying one click rooting methods won't work (my experience)
Using the android adb sideload if you push super user access, it will fail with signature verification error.
Either ways you definitely need the CWM recovery to push super user access into the /system.
I hope I have answered your queries

Anabhi,
First of all thanks a lot for your time and effort
I have downloaded the file you shared via drop box and made a Odin flash-able .tar file using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281287
Used odin 3.07 file for flashing.
After flashing successful, I tried SRS root/ Universal root/ V-Root to get Root access. (Failed)
I have already installed the root checker basic. It says " Sorry this device does not have proper root access"
Just out of my curiosity what changes you made to the boot.img ?
Came across this generic root method is this what we are doing?

Dear Wahab96,
Don't worry its normal to brick the phone when testing.
I suggest you to download complete stock firmware (not the kernel alone) from here
Use Odin 3.07 and flash as per the picture shown in here.
Select only PDA and give the path to the firmware.
Odin can only detect .tar.md5 (md5 is the checksum)
The phone will reboot couple of times.. dont panic or pull the usb cable. wait till it says PASS in green color and all threads complete message in the status window.
Once the process is complete the phone will work normally.
Dont forget to hit thanks if I have helped you .....
it's not a recovery.img
it's boot.img (kernal)

Desperately Trying to Port TWRP on this Stock Recovery !

Hey Guys,
I've been spending hours & hours to try to port TWRP (or PhilZ) to the stock recovery from my rugged BlackView BV5000.
Not going to explain the reasons here, as everyone knows them already (my top-of-the-list reason being the ability to ghost & root my device), but I've managed to get the stock recovery from the manufacturer, and have been using some tools to *auto-port* CWM/TWRP/PHILZ to the stock recovery.img file without success.
File available here: https://mega.nz/#!y1plzQgR!irTUJbdpHYuqGJ3dV8ACOXZBlvuTK1S-pag_EbZJETU
I am asking for all people with more experience than me in porting or coding Android files for some kind help... Hope someone could bring light on us! ^_^
Cheers!
Nick.

Hi
Of course I tried this one you mention, as well as several others (for PhilZ, CWM...) and the result was same, it ends up with some errors and impossible to continue the operation. Moreover, most of these tools require a rooted device, and this one cannot be rooted at the moment by any automatic tool.... This is also one of the reasons I request a custom recovery

The Magic TWRP Installer can create a recovery.img file which you can flash with SP Flashtool. Could you please explain what exactly errors are you getting? I think there is a higher chance of success if we try to resolve the issue with TWRP installer, than if you just kept asking for help.

Hey, it is extremely easy to root the BV5000. Just copy this attached file to an external SD (it might work if in internal memory but I haven't tried it).
Settings => About Phone => Wireless Updates => 3 dots (Menu Key) => Local Updates => Browse and select the update.zip file and wait till the phone reboots.
The file and method are taken from a thread in movilesdualsim.com.
Enjoy

Probably it was part of your secret project ( or your are Hanuma50.... ? ).....because obviously working custom recovery is downloadable only from 4pda.ru - if you know the Russian numbers what is needed for the registration....
The above mentioned update.zip method does not work on newer firmwares ( t.e. v.1.5.) of BV5000.
For those who are not familiar with the soul of MTK devices here is a description of the installation process to get TWRP and thereafter root on the phone:
( use google translator):

(It does not matter that description relates to MT6592 devices!)

I wanted to see how long it would take them to make their own working recovery.
A lot of the time 4PDA and other forums seem to give no credit or links to the original dev's.
Lucky for them they have @hanuma who is a Great dev so credit to him for getting the TWRP working. Well done bro. :highfive:
You should link to @hanuma or one of his posts so people can give him Thanks also you should really asked his permission to post the mirror link to the recovery.

[GUIDE][UTIL][Allview Energy P8] STOCK ROM + TWRP + ROOT

UPDATE:
Hey guys,
One of our Romanian fellows has found an article with a much easier ROOTing method, in case you're wondering: http://www.androidvillaz.com/2015/11/how-to-root-gionee-m5-and-install-twrp-recovery.html
This one should be pretty easy and straight forward. ( thanks ovi_jer! )
The BACKUP part of the tutorial is stil valid and can be used to fully backup your STOCK ROM before you start rooting your device.
Best of luck!
Backup
Before doing anything, I strongly recommend that you perform a full backup in case something goes wrong along the way and you manage to brick your phone (I've bricked mine several times until I found the right method).
Once your drivers are installed you'll need to connect your phone to your PC
Drag down the notification bar and click on the "Connected as a media device" notification
Make sure "USB debugging is on"
Open "SP_Flash_Tool_exe_Windows_v5.1528.00.000\flash_tool.exe"
Click on the "Download" tab
Click on the "Scatter-loading" button on the top-right
Select the "Allview_P8_Energy_0102_V6063_STOCK_scatter.txt" scatter file from the "ROM_Allview_P8_Energy_0102_V6063" folder that was created when you've unzipped the kit
Now click on the "Readback" tab
Click the "Add" button on the top-left
Once the new entry is added in the list below, double-click it and a file dialog will open
Now give your ROM BACKUP a name (you will need this later on in case you want to perform an emergency recovery)
Select the folder where you wish to place your new backup and click Save
A new popup will open allowing us to set the readback block start address - make sure Type: Hex is selected
Make sure start address is 0x0000000000000000
In the Length box, put this: 0x00000000d7800000
Click on OK
And now, to begin the readback (backup) procedure, you'll need to click on the Read Back button (top-center)
Now reboot your phone (long-press the Lock button on your phone until the Power Off/Reboot dialog appears and select REBOOT)
Once the phone reboots the SPF app should start saving the phone memory to file, and your backup is created
Once you see a green success message, you can safely turn your phone back on (unplug USB and long press the Lock button until the screen turns on)
Good luck!
downloading ), finger crossed ), thank you
next thing to try is xposed )
step 1 : flashed, no errors
step 2 : booting , optimising app ; probably did not format my old data partition ?

Glad to hear it. I might have noticed some issues with the network settings (for some reason my 2G network doesn't seem to work but it might be because I've overwritten something with the Gionee versions and forgot to restore it from the Allview version) - I'll investigate this further and come up with a solution.
Cheers!

Spare parts for Energy P8
As a quick update: I've hard-bricked mine . I then went for the battery (to do a hard reset) then while putting the screws back, I've accidentally put a longer screw in the wrong place and pierced my screen :silly:
So now I have spare parts for the Allview Energy P8 But nevertheless, it's still an awesome phone and I've already placed an order for another one.
Can't wait to get my new Energy P8 :crying:
Cheers!

Oh well, that happens. It's funny that it had nothing to do with the rooting itself ) It was just me playing around... Anyway, I've decided to cancel my order and just call Allview - maybe they can change just the case & screen, which should be cheaper than getting a new one fingers crossed.
I'll post the questions I receive in private just in case there are other people who could use the answer.

The files that I've used to root it are all present in the Preparation section: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4y-lCr0oBtjcV9WcDJEb2hkcFE/view?pli=1
WARNING: I have not tested this for the Gionee Marathon M5 (only for Allview Energy P8 which is a rebranded version of the M5).
I recommend that you follow all the steps: Preparation, Backup, Flashing TWRP/STOCK (this is the part where it replaces your ROM with a rootable one) and then the activation of Root.
I believe you got stuck at the Flashing part. The trick I did was to use my STOCK ROM files but I've replaced the recovery.img file with the TWRP recovery (which also has rooting ability).
Simply get a copy of your ROM (see this post for links - don't forget to give thanks! - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63816091&postcount=68 )
Replace the recovery.img file in your Gionee Stock ROM with the recovery_twrp.img you find in the Allview ZIP (ROM_Allview_P8_Energy_0102_V6063/recovery_twrp.img)
Make sure ONLY recovery and system are checked!
Don't forget to wipe the cache and user data - maybe @criszz has a few tips here?
You should now have your stock ROM with TWRP recovery installed. Once you have that, simply follow the steps in the ROOT section above and you should be fine.
Cheers!
My phone is Allview branded but before to put this rom was with gionee stock rom. I flashed allview rom and with allview scater i put twrp, with whole rom, not just twrp. Flashed 3 times before twrp to work ))

WARNING: Performing an OEM Unlock will prevent your phone from booting, so make sure you have everything ready for flashing before doing that!
To perform the OEM Unlock you'll need to:
Enable OEM unlock from Developer options
Connect your phone to your pc via USB
run: adb reboot bootloader
then to unlock run: fastboot oem unlock
Cheers!
don't do that like me, after putting the rom, you will have bootlop and twrp bakup doesn't help. Now i'm flasing again with bootloader unloked )
hmmm, after flash im still not able to restore my data ), maybe it must be unlocked again, are you sure you flashed with bootloader unlocked?
locked bootloader again, still not working, i will flash gionee stock rom and again after allview rom with twrp )

My phone is a Chinese Gionee M5 and I've had both the stock Gionee Amigo ROM with TWRP and now the Allview ROM with TWRP running on it

@criszz I flashed all files from the Allview ROM, rebooted and went into the ROM to check it was working, I then rebooted into recovery but it was stock recovery. I then just flashed the TWRP recovery (by choosing same scatter file but only ticking recovery). I then booted into recovery and TWRP was there
after some work i concluded : is not worth to unlock bootloader, so stay away of that.
Finnaly i restore my twrp bakup back right now.
For anyone who has 'Invalid IMEI' after flashing (as I did). Here's how I solved:
1. Download 'MTK Engineering Mode' from the playstore
2. Open app and select 'MTK Settings', scroll to 'Connectivity' tab then select 'CDS Information'
3. Select 'Radio Information' then SIM 1
4. Type AT +EGMR=1,7,"INSERT YOUR IMEI HERE", then Send AT Command
5. Select 'Radio Information' then SIM 2
6. Type AT +EGMR=1,10,"INSERT YOUR IMEI HERE", then Send AT Command
7. reboot and all was OK

Hi tipuban, thank you sooooooooooo muuuuuuuuuuch for this tuto. I have a question for you if you may. But first a little notification to help you (You will need to download the Allview_P8_Energy_0102_V6063.zip file and unpack it somewhere you can access the contents.) i tried to download but the link don't work for me . Before asking my question, i want to tell you that i have a gionee marathon m5 with androide 5.1 but with the memory leak issue problem, that's why i posted a thread here to ask help to dowgrade to kitkat. Now my question for you is : if i follow your tuto flash the TWRP, root my phone with the stock Rom gave, will this androide problem disappear or it still gonna be present? Thanks

Hi adamyd,
Unfortunately it seems that somebody reported the file and Google has taken it down, which means that either Allview or Gionee do not want the software online for public access. Makes you wonder why wouldn't they want that tho... I feel this issue requires a bit of paranoia here so I'll investigate this as soon as I'll have some free time. Could it be collecting personal data? Usage patterns? Just wondering...
Aaanyhow, until some official from Allview or Gionee gives us green light to post their ROM online, we will have to do this manually.
Regarding the memory leak, I'm not aware if the Gionee ROM or the Allview ROM have this issue fixed - haven't had any problems with it so far.
Now, if you still want to root your phone the manual way, here is a suggestion of how it could be done (that's how I did it):
First, you will need to follow the steps mentioned in the Backup section of the tutorial and then generate your own ROM, which means you'll have to:
Download the SPFT application from the web (try searching XDA or simply use Google).
Get the scatter file for the Gionee Marathon M5 device ( try googling for "MT6735_Android_scatter.txt" ).
Follow the rest of the backup procedure described in the tutorial.
Dice the backup file (resulted from the BACKUP operation) into actual partition images, replace the recovery image file with the TWRP_recovery one and finally flash the entire MODIFIED ROM to your phone's memory.
Let me know if you choose to go the manual route, and I'll post a tutorial on how to accomplish #4 in the list above.
Cheers!

EDIT: Yipee! It was asking for password. I booted to recovery by Hodling volume down+power. Then select an option to erase data, confirm by pressing volume up. It took a few minutes.
Then it booted with the custom rom!
So, anyone who comes across password can just erase their phone by booting into recovery.
Thanks to joygram! This works, so looking forward to having gapps on my phone now! Good luck to everybody.

So to summarize... If we get chinese version of A6 we can now flash this custom rom to have both :
- gapp (not available on chinese version)
- Widgets and full eink function (not available on russian version)
?

->
I can not make twrp
I just merge system.img and install gapps manually.
so I can not root
but I will try
I used Magisk and patched boot.img in joygram's ROM. Then I replaced the original boot.img with partched one, and then used the same method with QFIL. It works!
But when you boot it reminds you device state is locked. However, Magisk is fully operational and I have used many modules already.
