Hello, I am a noob to htc. I received an AT&T htc one x from someone who try to rooted it but didn't make a backup and the phhone seems to be wiped. The recovery is cwm. I can get to the recovery but the phone is not recognized by the computer. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Never used cwm. Are you trying to copy files to it or something?.. You'd have to mount it in cwm.
You might need the HTC drivers.
What exactly are you trying to do?
Also, if you could grab the info from your bootloader, that could be helpful too.

I want to return it to the stock rom. There is no rom on the phone at all. I will look for the drivers.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
If you want it to be complete stock with the latest update, you may need to s-off first then ruu.
Alternatively, you could just flash a stock rom.
It's up to you. If you go the full stock s-off route you'll need to know if it's SuperCID'd first

Well can't put ROMs on the phone without the USB cable. Go to onexroot.com and download the drivers. Or install HTC sync. But if you have windows 7 it should download automatically.

from within recovery it is recognized as a mass storage device so drivers should not be required for xp+
this is why i was slightly confused.

that does help. most likely you have supercid. you would be best to s-off and then RUU.
Just to ease my anal retentive tendencies can you fastboot oem readcid? better to be safe than sorry.
hopefully you have working fastboot?

Important future info:
You are S-ON, HBOOT 1.14, Bootloader unlocked (you will have to flash the kernel, usually named boot.img, separately from your ROMs),
Okay, so here we go:
1) download one of these ROMs:
(odexed stock, recommended) androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390248398092763379
(deodexed stock) androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390248398092763378
2) Mount your sd card in recovery, drag the ROM onto your sdcard (don't delete from your computer yet, though), and then unmount your sd card
3) In recovery (make sure you wipe system and data first) go to the home screen -> install -> sdcard -> the ROM file
4) enter bootloader mode and hit the power button once so that it goes into fastboot mode
5) download this (it will help you to install the kernel) HTC One X (Evita) All-In-One Toolkit V2.1.1: d-h.st/CTW
6) Extract it using 7-zip or something, select flash a kernel (the kernel is attached below)
7) reboot and it should work
Make sure to update us with your results/problems!
i doubt op has any intention of modding his rom. may be best to link an odexed rom.
on a side note, if you want to return to stock i suggest RUUing up to 3.18. stable, fast, less likelyhood of lag or bugginess as i have noticed jb roms on older hboot tends to cause weird things here and there for people and some slow downs. whichever you choose, help is here.
PC not recognizing the device is extremely common, and really the main issue here. Just download the latest version of HTC Sync from HTC's website, and install, to re-install the drivers. Try a different USB port, different cable, or even a different PC (if possible).
From there, the fastest way to get on a stock ROM is to flash a stock rooted ROM from the Development section (or a custom ROM close to stock, like CleanROM), as another user suggested.
Alternatively, you can relock the bootloader and RUU back to stock. But be aware that since you have the AT&T version and are bootloader unlocked, it must be SuperCID. So do not run the 3.18 (AT&T Jellybean) RUU or you will brick the phone (unless you S-off first). You should be able to run the 2.20 RUU just fine.
i really find this to be the only driver you need to install for the htc evita.

these are the latest drivers that i know of so you can bypass installing htc sync.
[DRIVER] HTC Driver 4.0.1.001 (2012-11-07)
you should download HTCDriver_4.0.1.001_20121107.exe.part1.rar and HTCDriver_4.0.1.001_20121107.exe.part2.rar assume works great for vista or later
[DRIVER] HTC Driver 3.0.0.007 (2011-01-03)
HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe.part1.rar and HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe.part2.rar works great for xp or earlier

yes. relock your bootloader
from bootloader type fastboot oem lock
then you can flash the 1.85 RUU
just run the file from windows.
After that you can unlock with the same unlock token you got when you unlocked in the first place
then you can install recovery again
but the ruu requires the phone to be on and usb debugging on

Once you have them installed you'll have to reboot in to fastboot and install the official 1.85 RUU.
Also so you know I had a similar experience when I was on cleanrom 2.6 and tried to format and go to 3.0. I had to relock the bootloader, RUU to stock and install a different rom cause 3.0 would just never install for me for whatever reason, it would always bootloop back in to recovery. However I had backed up my NANDROID to my PC so I copied it back over to my SD card after I was on stock then restored it then did an in-place upgrade to 3.1 which worked. I was able to install cleanrom 4 after a wipe without issue.
hi everybody today i tried to update my HOX with this stock room "stock rooted 2.33.162.2 - odex/deodex and unsecure boot.img with init.d"
my android version is 4.0.4
HTC sense versio 4.0
Software Number 1.88.707.2
HTC SDK API level 4.11
HTC Extension Version 403_1_GA_4
then after i flashed the room the HTC wont boot (just shows me the white HTC screen) and i still have access to the recovery mode (CWM) i downloaded another room to tried to flash the phone (my nandroid bk shows me an MD5 error when i tried to restore) then i dont have any idea about how can i move the new zip file to the cellphone, i am very frustrated because i cant do it anything yet
please somebody help me
Thanks in advance for your help
If you get it working, the first order of business is to ditch CWM and switch to TWRP as it was not properly ported to our device. Are you sure you have a XL? The dual core version? Make sure you have the right ROM for the right device. I can't help you to transfer as you are using CWM and I'm not familiar with mounting. Word on the street is that there is a good chance it'll wipe your entire SDcard

from recovery do a factory reset and try again to boot it.... if u have a nandroid backup there is a setting to turn off md5 checking so it will restore......... as long as your using TWRP recovery (which you should be if not) you can mount usb storage and transer whatever you need......

you need to download twrp recovery, should be in the stickies, and flash it from hboot.
stick the recovery image in your adb/fastboot folder and rename it to twrp.img, boot phone into bootloader
from cmd prompt, fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
then on device select bootloader, then recovery.....once in twrp recovery you can mount usb and transfer..
no matter what just focus on getting twrp recovery flashed...your fixes will all come after that

any custom rom that you flash will be rooted already. As far as the red text goes, that is there to stay until the device gets s-off or you go back to completely stock/use a stock recovery.

sorry for the stupid question but what is s-off?
Security-off....see the phones which HTC does allow bootloader unlocking don't really get unlocked. Their unlocking really just partially unlocks and to have a HTC phone with a truly "unlocked" boitloader you have to have s off. Which gives the user full rights over the entire phone....so htcdev unlocked bootloaders aren't really even unlocked, they're simply less restricted.......

Okay so today I was tinkering with my phone when I accidentally deleted a system file that was crucial. So I went to bootloader and wiped phone (I know that was the wrong thing to do, now). So I have no ROM on my phone. I was able to ADB the ROM I need to my phone on internal storage (not /sdcard) but the problem is whenever I try to flash it, I get the following error over and over in the code area in TWRP "E: failed to mount /sdcard (invalid argument). I've gone to the mount options screen and when I try to select sdcard nothing happens, I can't select it. If it's any help, the ROM I'm trying to flash has the official page here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804223 and the ROM I was on before this whole thing is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1868236 . Any help is greatly appreciated, I really need this phone fixed!
EDIT: Alright, so I flashed stock recovery, relocked, and then used my friend's PC (thanks man!) and now my phone is in perfect working condition. Just re-rooted and re-unlocked the bootloader in like 10 minutes, which is funny because it took me like an hour and a half the first time. Anyways, thank you to all the users on this forum for helping me. Appreciate it!
NEVER Factory Reset or Clear Storage from bootloader it'll screw up your storage inside of twrp. I tried formatting storage afterwards in twrp and in windows and it still didn't help twrp see it. I ended up running the ruu again.
easiest thing to do is run the ruu again, reunlock bootloader, flash twrp and flash rom. then never factory reset or clear storage in bootloader again.
if you find another method let me.

And youll have to learn some simple adb commands tto relock your bootloader..or it won't work someone correct me if wrong
Hi guys yep you'll need to do some adb work to relock for ruu. However... if you still have recovery? You could try flashing a clean ROM. Then flash the cm10 over that. Of course youll need to delete cache,s before flashing cm10. I'd give that a shot first.
(Edit) I just noticed you having the mount issue also... ignore that. Just check you PC it should still show up. And it may ask you to format the drive? Your OK to do that fat32.

Easiest way to fix is to connect phone to pc, then select mount, mount usb in twrp and windows will prompt you to format.
Then once that is done you can copy your rom of choice across unmount and flash.

I have been reading for the last couple weeks, thinking I have an answer and end up further into the hole.
Rogers HTC One X / EVITA / HBOOT 2.14. / 2.4 TWRP initially, now 2.6 / Unlocked boot loader / s-on
1. Started trying to flash AOKP 4.2.2. Flashed boot.img, then followed with TWRP recovery. All I could get was the language screen and then it stalled. Tried numerous iterations of this with various wipes and flash first and flash after.
2. Next tried Viper 3.2.7. All good till it gets to startup screen then it stops (I understand Viper has its boot.img installed to start not needing it flashed).
3. While trying various wipes to see if it would install completely I mistakenly did a factory reset! Now no OS! No Nandroid! No ROM.zip!
4. To get a ROM on SDCard tried ADB sideload thru TWRP. after running script it says unable to mount SDCARD! Suggests I reboot system! Now a little leery of rebooting for fear it will not.
5. Also tried to MOUNT HTV via TWRP on to laptop. Did not recognize said ti initialize. Formatted FAT 32 (via MAC). Now will not mount SD Card. I did drop Viper.zip into mount (cache and system OK) but can not find it using FILE MANAGER via TWRP
6. Now am in BOOTLOADER screen of Android. Thought I could flash a ROM but from what I read it does not look possible.
Can any one point me in the right direction to get this thing up and running. At this point, as much as I am learning all the time, it does me no good having my phone down for two weeks (sure glad I kept my Nexus One).
Any answer at this stage is a good answer and I appreciate all input!
Thanks
D
Sounds like you did a factory reset in bootloader which corrupts the sd card after unlocking the bootloader. You used to be able to just mount it on pc and format it but after the jb update I don't think that's possible due to the drive no longer being a mass storage device but an mtp device instead. There was a method to fix it developed by team nocturnal but it looks like the site is inaccessible right now. I'll see if there's a way to fix it and get back to you. Bear with me.
[/COLOR]By any chance have you tried wiping sd card in twrp 2.6?
Also, have done SuperCID yet?

SuperCID has not been done. It is S-ON presently.
I wiped SD Card as suggested. Saw it set up partitions. And now TWRP shows up when I mount . Can I just drop a ROM in and flash via TWRP? Any suggestions for a ROM. Could not get AOKP 4.2.2 to run or Viper 3.2.7.
Thanks for the quick assist at getting it to MOUNT.
Flash a stock sense rom and then fastboot flash boot boot.img extracted from the rom. Then use jet to downgrade hboot and SuperCID and then s-off. It'll save you lots of headaches.

Flash a stock sense rom and then fastboot flash boot boot.img extracted from the rom. Then use jet to downgrade hboot and SuperCID and then s-off. It'll save you lots of headaches.

It all sounds simple when you say it.
I will find a stock sense ROM to install then follow with boot.img.
Is it necessary to wipe anything more then Dalvik and Cache?
Thanks again.
David
In twrp 2.6 the factory reset wipes everything except sd card and system. You don't have to wipe system but I always do when I'm flashing a new rom.

Hey there,
a mate has a one s, running android 4.2.2 maximus 10.0. He was getting a update notice and try to install it by himself. Sadly something went wrong, so that's the current state:
Device won't boot
Fastboot Working
recovery (twrp) working
sd card formated
Hboot 2.16
SuperCID
S-Off
I don't get adb sideload working (device not found), so i am not able to get a rom sideloaded to install it.
Ruu 3.16.xxxx failed because it is not the right version of the device
anything i can do?
Go to twrp recovery and perform back up.
This will ensure you have a file structure on your SD card. This isn't strictly necessary but it always gives me reassurance.
Download Maximus onto your PC. Connect you phone to your pc via USB. In twrp go to mount and mount USB.
Place the downloaded ROM onto you SD card and then install the ROM
You should be good to go after this.

Hum, usb mount in twrp is not working with 2.16, am I right ?
Ah. That would be a problem. Glad I never took that route.
In that case and assuming adb side loading doesn't work I would suggest taking a look in the dev section. There is a thread devoted to downgrading from 2.16 to 2.15. Once you are back on 2.15, start the process again.
