Okay so today I was tinkering with my phone when I accidentally deleted a system file that was crucial. So I went to bootloader and wiped phone (I know that was the wrong thing to do, now). So I have no ROM on my phone. I was able to ADB the ROM I need to my phone on internal storage (not /sdcard) but the problem is whenever I try to flash it, I get the following error over and over in the code area in TWRP "E: failed to mount /sdcard (invalid argument). I've gone to the mount options screen and when I try to select sdcard nothing happens, I can't select it. If it's any help, the ROM I'm trying to flash has the official page here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804223 and the ROM I was on before this whole thing is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1868236 . Any help is greatly appreciated, I really need this phone fixed!
EDIT: Alright, so I flashed stock recovery, relocked, and then used my friend's PC (thanks man!) and now my phone is in perfect working condition. Just re-rooted and re-unlocked the bootloader in like 10 minutes, which is funny because it took me like an hour and a half the first time. Anyways, thank you to all the users on this forum for helping me. Appreciate it!
NEVER Factory Reset or Clear Storage from bootloader it'll screw up your storage inside of twrp. I tried formatting storage afterwards in twrp and in windows and it still didn't help twrp see it. I ended up running the ruu again.
easiest thing to do is run the ruu again, reunlock bootloader, flash twrp and flash rom. then never factory reset or clear storage in bootloader again.
if you find another method let me.

Okay, sorry what what's the ruu and how do I run it again?
EDIT: So is the ruu the stock ROM? I've done some googling and it appears that it's something to do with exe file. I'm on a Mac, but I can get access to a PC if it's necessary.

And youll have to learn some simple adb commands tto relock your bootloader..or it won't work someone correct me if wrong
Hi guys yep you'll need to do some adb work to relock for ruu. However... if you still have recovery? You could try flashing a clean ROM. Then flash the cm10 over that. Of course youll need to delete cache,s before flashing cm10. I'd give that a shot first.
(Edit) I just noticed you having the mount issue also... ignore that. Just check you PC it should still show up. And it may ask you to format the drive? Your OK to do that fat32.

let us know when you relock your bootloader and ruu back to stock
boot into bootloader run "fastboot oem lock" then run the ruu
You still have recovery. Right? You should still be OK. Twrp is not letting you mount SD. Right?

He needs to relock bl and ruu ..download aan ruu. That will be ok. If you need help with adb check out gunnymans stickied thread
Easiest way to fix is to connect phone to pc, then select mount, mount usb in twrp and windows will prompt you to format.
Then once that is done you can copy your rom of choice across unmount and flash.

Twrp is known for having mount issue. I'm tell in ya if you USB to PC it will still find the SD as long as you have the HTC drivers installed. Unless your twrp is gone? Then you need to ruu.

Yes, I still have recovery and twrp is not letting me mount sd card. I'm trying to get the ruu to work, however, I have a Mac and getting it to work in a third party program like Wine or Parallels isn't easy, but I'm making progress. If there's another way to run the ruu on Mac, let me know.

That's what I was aiming for as well - why ruu when there's an easier way that should work providing the right drivers etc are installed.

I tried installing Jelly Bean and now can't do much of anything. I can get into bootloader and load up team windows recovery (not sure what to do in there)
When I am in fastboot and try through a command prompt adb devices doesn't list the HTC One X (Rogers, Canada)
I really am not sure what to do. I have downloaded a ton of stuff nothing seems to make a difference (HTC drivers, img and zip files..) I think it boils down to getting some direction on what troubleshooting to do with the exact files I would need to use.
flash a rom in recovery ofcourse.
adb doesnt work in hboot only fastboot. your phone is fine. you need to copy the rom zips to your sdcard. then go to install inside recovery. you can mount your sdcard inside recovery also so you can copy stuff. you should still be able to reboot the system normal and have it boot fine. unlocking and flashing recovery doesnt wipe your phone.

Hi everyone! I am the biggest noob on the face of the earth. I was trying to install MIUI on my HTC One X and I think I might have bricked it.
MIUI wasn't loading properly, it was caught in the load screen animation. So I went back into TWRP and I cleared the caches and erased some other stuff. (I can't remember.) Then I went to reinstall and all of my files were gone. Also, it said that my phone didn't have an OS. When I go into mount it as a USB drive, my computer doesn't recognize its drive type and tells me to format it.
Did I just create the most expensive 9GB hard drive or is there still hope?

Only format data and cache partitions. You shouldn't ever need to format the system, and never format any other partitions.
Try to restore a backup like the previous poster states, if you do not have a backup...
Download a ROM on your computer, mount USB storage, transfer the ROM, unmount storage, flash the ROM.

Something is wrong with twrp because it does this sometimes when you format system
Then transfer over a ROM to flash

Did you accidentally select factory reset or clear storage while in bootloader? That will corrupt the memory as well.
He factory reseted. Reformat your sdcard. Plug in phone and transfer ROM.
It sounds to me your on new hboot and didn't flash kernel with fast boot. That's why it wouldn't boot so in a panic you factory erased. Correct?

The easiest way to do this is relock bootloader and run a RUU.
I am ashamed to admit I did this too; however, I was trying to install CM10 and deleted my recovery using flashgui luckily I was able to flash twrp, the boot.img and then load the zip for CM10. I am still looking for a method of getting back to the stock rom, but I feel lucky to have a working phone again.

Ok, I've looked through the help sections, I've Googled my issue [a few times now], so now time to ask for help. [which may or may not be well recieved.]
I was running Viper 3.2.6 fine for about a month, I loved the rom, however I started getting repeated FCs and errors, so I decided to recover my nandroid backup. That didn't work very well, and my phone started to bootloop... I then decided to re-flash viper, re-install twrp [first 2.4.4.0, then when that version wouldn't work, 2.4.1.0] Now when flashing Viper [any JB version I've tried] all my phone does is hang on the HTC startup screen, then reboot back to TWRP. Not to mention that Viper is the only sense ROM that my phone will accept. I've tried fastboot flashing the boot.img, fastboot erasing cache, and running the Nocturnal SD fix to give myself a clean slate to work with.
I'm S-on and HBoot 2.14. Any help that can be provided would be appreciated.
I would post a logcat, but when I tried it would not output anything since the phone is not getting to the rom boot animation.
Try flashing the boot image separately. Or going s-off. I have had troubles with twrp higher than 2.4 before I went s-off.
I always stayed on 2.3

As far as flashing the boot image, I type fastboot flash boot boot.img.
And with the S-Off situation, I looked into that, but most of the tools for that seemingly require a working ROM, as usually they require you to have "usb debugging enabled" Like I stated previously, I've tried to solve the issue myself, to no avail thus far.
Also being hboot 2.14 twrp 2.3.x seems to not have touchscreen.
So you have no working Rom? Or can you flash viper again?

Just tried 2.3.1 and no, the touchscreen didn't work, I was looking for a d/l for 2.3.3.x but haven't been able to find one. all of the ones I have found have been removed, or changed to 2.4.4.0
I would be quite greatful if you could point me in the direction of a 2.3.3.x twrp that works.
With S-Off, all the guides I've found by searching XDA [and google, which usually points me back to XDA] state that I need to start with USB debugging enabled, I even tried to start the process in fastboot... still no-go.

For s-off, if you don't use supercid, it doesn't seem to work, I did not use super cid, since I didn't need to to unlock my bootloader. I tried that method already.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212737
Do this. Then soff then ruu with your bootloader kept unlocked then reinstall twrp 2.3.3.1 then flash viper

Followed your instructions to the letter[I actually wiped everything twice before installing Viper.], same result, still hanging at the white HTC screen. I'm going to keep trying though. Thank you for the help thus far.

The only issue, is that it requires adb; since I cannot get a rom to load; when I adb, it just outputs device not found. I was able to find the file to hex edit using twrp file manager, and edited the right part, but it won't let me over-write the original file... any suggestions?

Sorry I hadnt had to do this till now. OK here's what you need to do. In recovery advanced. Go to terminal command select root dir "/". And then do the "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4" on your phone. This will pull the file. Mount your SD card in twrp and hex edit the mmcblk0p4 file on your sdcard like in my guide then save it in the same spot, make sure file size matches then go back to terminal command and select the root "/" directory again and type
"dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4" from your phone. This will push the edited file back.
This is a bit more advanced but will work since you cannot adb. Adb just allows you to use the phones terminal remotely. Instead were actually using it on the phone.

It's not liking the: adb shell su -c "/data/local/tmp/soffbin3" command. It's outputting: /sbin/sh: su: not found

I am not real familiar with adb so I would need simple instructions please. what do I do? thanks

I can get into bootloader and I can get into recovery but from there i'm not sure what to do, in the original instructions I went to reboot and clicked system, after doing that is when the boot loop started and if I do it again now the same thing happens just bootloops

s-off!!! After you ruu before reunlocking or anything are you still bootlooping? I have had that happen before, I fixed it once with a factory reset in bootloader. Make sure you only do factory reset in bootloader completely stock or you will corrupt sdcard. Running "fastboot erase cache" in fastboot after flashing custom recovery or even stock could help, i always run this command anytime i flash something in fastboot. When flashing a custom rom make sure to do full wipes, i always go to advcanced in wipe tab and select everything except sdcard.

very useful and easy to follow thanks for the link, however adb commands don't seem to be working as when I try any of them nothing happens. even adb devices just says list of devices attached and there is no list and no devices, adb shell does nothing etc. I tried a factory reset from bootloader and it just rebooted into twrp...when from feeling like a king when I finally got su on there to such a dumbass now, and the wife is enjoying telling me I should've have messed with it in the first place.
If you can get into twrp do it then mount your device to pc, copy a ROM of choice to filesystem, unmount phone, do a full wipe, then flash the ROM.

If you can't do a full wipe then just flash the ROM without it then if it works you can reflash if needed

ok so I re-formatted it and was about to enter twrp and mount the drive, I downloaded the latest updated rom from htc.com and tried to load it with twrp that didn't work so I tried to use htc's tool and that didn't work either.
You need to slow down and do some research before trying all this stuff which you have no clue about. You're on a fast track to actually bricking your phone. All you need to do is install a ROM in recovery, reboot to bootloader, flash the boot.img from the ROM via fastboot and reboot into the ROM. That's all you needed to do from the very beginning because you're s-on. Unfortunately the people who were trying to help you didn't identify this and kinda sent you on a wild goose chase

Well he had a corrupted that wouldn't let him mount the SD so my advice was to format it to fat32 then install a ROM from the forum.
Sent from my One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The corrupted sd card wasn't until later in the thread. You don't need adb for that anyway, you format it through Windows. All he had to do originally was flash the boot.img via fastboot.

You should be able to just Google adb/fastboot. The traditional way is to download the Android SDK and get it from there but that's a huge download. I know there are sources which will supply you with just adb and fastboot but I can't remember where.

Sure just flash the old firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322755
bootloader clear storage
fastboot flash your new custom recovery
Then load whatever rom you want and install it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
or another way, I did, just to see if I could go back if I wanted to
flashed stock recovery
factory reset from bootloader... waited for it to do it's thing.... when it rebooted to phone I held down the power button to reset it.. held down volume down to get back into bootloader.
made sure it was in fastboot usb mode
ran RUU
But that was kind of overkill.

Sure, it's not going to get rid of Soff or anything.
That only happens when you use the ****** (fastboot command that will not be named, because someone will use it and have a paperweight)

Thx for your advices !
By doing the 1st or the 2nd method, then I'll have to re-unlock via HTC Dev ?
I ask that because I want to restore with RUU and I see everywhere that I have to relock the bootloader before doing this.

You don't have to relock bootloader to run RUU on s-off device.
Just reboot to fastboot, make sure your pc can see your phone and execute ruu*.exe

Yes, that is the important bit, clear storage in bootloader when you have the STOCK recovery.
The stock recovery fixes the issues. (from what I have read on our forums)
