SmartSilence is my Android app on the Google Play store that I have just released yesterday, and any feedback would be much appreciated.

What is SmartSilence?
This app allows you to put in the times during the week that you want your phone to be on silent. Put in your work hours, any meeting hours, etc. And the app will set the phone to vibrate/silent during these times, and when the time is up it puts your phone back into the previous mode it was in.
Because this app was originally developed by me for my own personal needs, one thing I felt was missing from many competitors was the ability to schedule a "One-Time Event" setting that presents you with a calendar instead of checkboxes for days of the week. This is for any one time even you will have in the future that you will want your phone on silent/vibrate for, such as a one-time meeting or an interview on a specific date. Once that time has passed, the phone will go back into its previous mode and the event will delete itself from the schedule.
Fixes:
1.2 - Fixed Bug where notifications wouldn't show until Settings was opened at least once.
Looking for any suggestions and bug reports as I have just released the app!
Great job. Can't believe no one else has picked up on this.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Neat app, going to test it for a while, see how it works.
Suggestion: The setting of the time looks nice and all, but i tried scrolling the hours / minutes up / down, which turns out to not work well, because it also causes the screen to scroll if you don't hit it just right for example. It's a frustrating experience to try to set the time that way. Clicking the up / down arrows works fine.
Possible bug: It's a little past 10pm, and i just created a schedule that goes from 10pm to 8am. Yet the sounds are still on...?
Absolutely fantastic, I haven't installed it yet but it was JUST what I was looking for ages. I'll definitely give you feedback once I use it for some days.
Thanks a lot

For the bug, can you give me information on what day you set it for? If you want it to go overnight, you set it for the day of the week that the time starts at, i.e. if you want it from Tuesday night - Wednesday morning, you check tuesday and put 10pm to 8am.
Also, if you set it for to go overnight (by setting the end time to before the beginning time) it will tell you it is overnight where the time is displayed (ex. 10pm - 8am (overnight))
And thank you guys! It has been my college side-project for the past few months and am excited to see it finally on the store. I will actively update it daily if any bugs are reported.

I set it for all days of the week.
Last night before i went to bed, since the app hadn't silenced the phone, i manually put it in silenced mode (hold down power button, select "sound off" option from menu) as i normally do. Just a minute ago i manually turned the sound back on again the same way, even though the schedule i set up was from 10pm till 8am.

It works with those settings on multiple devices I have tested it on. I have PM'd you to further figure out the problem.
Let me know if you got my PM. I sent you one, but for some reason it doesn't show up in my 'sent' folder.
AggieDev, saw this over at Reddit, but couldn't find a way to contact you - wanted to say great work and I LOVE IT!
One quick question is there a possibility of adding like a 'Whitelist' and 'Repetitive Dialer' options - I like to have my phone go on Silent from around like 10pm-8am but would like to allow through certain Contacts in case of an emergency (wife, parents etc). Or if its work, they know to call me a number of times if the matter is urgent.
Love the clean interface, would just love to see these features added

good job! I was thinking about exactly same app, you saved me a lot of work Thx
It'll be useful to have a widget that allows you to toggle on/off certain silencing schedules
Please please please integrate google calendar, put it on the market an let me give you all my money!

airplane mode
Hi. Nice App -- thanks! Would it be possible to add an option to schedule airplane mode times? I set my phone to airplane mode at night to avoid extra radiation in the room, so it would be handy to be able to schedule this automatically.
Giving it a try
Thanks for the app. I have been using ring scheduler for year to accomplish this task. Unfortunately, it is a pain in the butt for those one time events. Giving your app a spin.
Another +1 for Google Cal, I work a 4 on 4 off shift so I need to schedule every 8 days rather than weekly, If it could do that or read my calender you have another sale.

Could you explain how this works/the science behind it etc?
The question that comes up everytime I see such an app:
Do you have it under your pillow or something to check how you move?
Because mostly my phone is just on a drawer at night.
I sleep in a double bed with my pregnant wife and two small dogs. Will it work for me, and where should I place my phone?

I believe (I am not expert), that the science behind it has something to do with the amount of movements you make in your bed. Every stage of sleep can then be recognized by the phone (app). It does require (at least I think so) some training to recognize your sleep-"style".
and....you will have to put it on your bed itself (besides your pillow, never under it! >heat etc..<)
I am going to try it though...
Looks good

Probably not as well as it should, but give it a try. Put it as close to your body as you can, so as to minimize the movement it picks up from others.

At the most basic level, it will alarm if you move right before your alarm is set.
Taken from wikipedia: "There is a greater amount of deep sleep (stage N3) earlier in the sleep cycle, while the proportion of REM sleep increases later in the sleep cycle and just before natural awakening." During REM, your muscles are more or less paralyzed, and you will not move. Right after, during lighter stages, you will. This is when the smart alarm acts.

I don't personally have it under my pillow, but rather about a foot or two away on the top corner of my bed (and I have a relatively hard bed.) It does need to be near you though

Sounds promising, but the 'setup' part of it is much more difficult than it should be.
Perhaps you should have it prompt for an action and then a confirmation that it's been done; all that 'line-pulling' needs to be done by the app...
Is the free beta version still receiving updates?
I thought I read that it wasn't. If that's the case, the paid version shouldn't really be called 'Donate' should it?

I know the calibration/setup process can use some streamlining, but care to expand on what you meant by the last sentence?

No, the beta period is over, and I am no longer providing regular updates to the market, except through the donate version of the app. Maybe it shouldn't be called donate, but there's a free, fully updated version available from off my website code.google.com/p/electricsleep/downloads/list

Sure:
The app essentially asks me to memorize a sequence of tasks (moving, laying still) and a sequence of corresponding adjustments I have to make to a rolling graph; I then have to perform this without further aides. The app tells you what the optimal adjustments are.
It would probably be more user-friendly if the app had simple/advanced calibration options. For the simple, you could just have it prompt the user to move around the bed for a few seconds, then hit a button when they're finished. The app knows what the optimal setting is in relation to the performed task so it should be able to adjust the calibration without having the need for rendering any graph nor any user input. Rinse and repeat for laying still.
Hope that makes sense...

I originally had automatic calibration like how you described. The problem was that there was a TON of user error, compounded by subtle differences/bugs in devices (see stackoverflow.com/questions/4099706/android-accelerometer-on-motodroid-1-reports-incorrect-values-at-first ) I changed to the way it is now, and there have been far less complaints about sensitivity being too low/high.

Could you at least add aides so that the user is not forced to memorize what is to be done and how it should be done? Would help tremendously.
How do I tell the app to give me soft alarm whenever it's my light sleep? Or am I just sleeping too soundly? And what's the point of the alarms set by me because i usually get awoken by them instead if I'm not wrong. I've set them at 1.5 h interval.
I'm also not sure if my calibration is correct. Can you show me a screenshot of how the review of a night's sleep looks like? When it's my light sleep, the green graph shoots all the way up to the end of the screen then comes back down afterwards. Is that correct? Thanks

Let me get this straight: you WANT the app to wake you up throughout a sleep, whenever you are in light sleep? If so, I can't help but wonder why...! Yes, the graph should be something like a couple green spikes that are near each other when you are in lighter sleep.
Sounds promising! I will check it the upcoming night!
I work in the field of sleep diagnostics/sleep studies. I don't have this app and have never tried it, i don't have android right now. But from what i have read on this thread, the app will wake you up after REM sleep. Which is good for in the morning, but not during the night. Your body can go through REM a few times a night. Not sure how it knows you are in REM, just because your body does not move doesn't mean your in REM sleep/deep sleep. It could mean you're in REM, but not always. Usually the only way to tell sleep stages is with an EEG, or brain activity/waves. N3 and REM are the stages you want to have to wake up feeling rejuvenated.
Couple suggestions to help with your app if you dont already have them:
-add microphone recording for snoring, and if you could measure the level/severity of the snore. could help with sleep apnea recognition.
- show the basic pattern of the persons sleep, ex. snore pattern, movements. Sleep is very cyclical and repeats itself through the night. you could tie this together with the snore mic, and maybe able to see apnea if severe.
-if the accelerometer is used for movements in bed during sleep, can you measure the level/severity of the movement? if so you could possibly tell the difference between body position changes, and periodic limb movements (restless leg syndrome).
-people could then see how they sleep in different positions. usually side is the best, on the back is the worst.
Just thinking of the top of my head. Great idea for an app. Sleep hygiene and sleep disorders really need to have more public awareness. So hopefully people will get your app, and decide to have a sleep study done, and make me money! ha ha great app!
Hey all,
You may recall the Flashlight Alerts app I released last year for the HTC EVO and a few other phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6855234&postcount=35
Originally, the app would flash your LED when you received a phone call or when you got a new text message. Right after releasing, I got a bunch of requests for new features and supporting new phones.
Well, I finally found the time and I've now expanded the app so it works with many more phones (including the latest EVO 4G update and Nexus S), and added support for Gmail, Email, K-9 Mail, and Google Voice!
As always, the APK is attached for XDA members.
The app is also available in the Market for $2.99 if you would like to donate:

I've been waiting for this to be upgraded for Gingerbread for awhile now. Thanks a ton!
I can see how this can be really useful. Is it possible to make it automatically activate when the phone is set to silent mode? This way when the phone is set to vibrate or sound it not light up?

I totally agree!
Actually I believe the best feature (in my case) would be to allow the LED to flash every xx seconds. So when my GS2 lies on the table and when I have unread SMS / mail / voice message or a missed call it can remind me to check it!
Perfect settings would allow to set the flash rate (like .-.-.-. or .-.) and the timing for the reminder in seconds (blink every xx seconds).
Anyway that's a great app and a great job!
Works fine on my GS2 2.3.3
Thanks dev!
I have been waiting for an application like this since the day I first tried Android on my HD2.
Thanks for creating this app.
This is terrific and I am going to try this out on my Incredible, as the EVO and Incredible are basically the same.

Would need a time limit too so you could have blink [whatever pattern] every X seconds for Y minutes. Oh and if possible, create different blink patterns for different types of notifications
Works fine with Desire and ReflexS ROM
Thanks so much, I really like this program.
Now it works again also with Gingerbread ROMs.

this sounds great can you make this availble for more devices???
Can you add support for htc mail, please. Thanks!

Has anyone encountered a bug that stops your HD2 from charging when this application has been triggered?
I have actually had to disable the app due to this issue. My battery was warm at the time so I will test again tonight.
The orange LED would go out, although android recognised USB was plugged in it refused to charge until I unplugged the cable and put it back in.
I know it has been mentioned in the various threads already, but it could REALLY use an interval setting. Like one flash every minute or something. Personally, if I am there to see the flash in the first place, I knew the phone rang anyway. It's when I wasn't there for the ring, is when it would be very handy to have it flash every few minutes. My phone sits face down in a holster so, I really can use an app like that.

Hi, I am new to the forum and just built my first app, and I wanted to put it here for you guys to use and give me feedback about what you like, what you don't like if you think its useful?
I hope this is the right forum and I am not breaking any rules by posting here.( I read the sticky first)
NEW! Interval Training Mode Added.
Unfortunately, I decided to go ad supported as I spent many weeks on this
donations amounted to less that $4.00
However I am offering the paid / donate version (no ads and can save more exercises in the interval training mode)
free of charge to those who helped me and are continually helping me with the development of this via feedback and suggestions.
Just email me and I will send you a copy.
Let me know what features you would like that this lacks.
Its a free Stopwatch with three modes
1) Stopwatch with Lap Timer
2) Countdown Timer
3) Repeating Countdown Timer (Select repeating Timer when setting countdown time) E.g Alarm beeps every 1 minute, can be used for circuit training etc)
I also added a Lap Stats function which shows your fastest lap, slowest lap and avg speed.
Version 1.0.7 (update)
Elapsed Time and Remaining Time on Notification Bar (Updates every minute) -c00ller
Fixed Menu Settings (User preferences should work now) - lots of reports about this one
Added Lap counter text in landscape mode. - fifarunner
Automatically remove zeros, when user enters time via keypad. - c00ller
Updates
Added User Preferences to enable / disable haptic feedback
Changed the UI/ Layout a bit, you can now select modes by pressing icons at the bottom of the screen
Added a service that should keep the Stopwatch from timing out, I would really appreciate it if you can let me know if the problem still exists.
Added an option to allow the stop button to register as a lap.
Reduced the font size to make landscape mode work on LDPI devices
More features coming soon...hopefully I will be able to roll out updates a bit faster in the future.
Features and Issues requested and pointed out by users...Thanks Everyone for your continuing feedback.

Sweeeet! Simple, but does the job. And looks good while doing it too.
One problem: Exit the app while the countdown is running and when the timer reaches zero, I'm greeted by the alarm and a force close message.
And a suggestion: An icon in the statusbar if there's a countdown running in the background.
Thanks a million Gusar321. I will definitly look into that bug and thanks also for the suggestion, I really appreciate the feedback.
Hey Gusar321, just wanted to let you know I updated the app and added the notification feature in the status bar. Also credited you on the update in the market. (Whats new section) Thanks again
I'm so disgusted with SPB Time (a not cheap paid app) missing alarms and draining battery with no support from developers...I uninstalled. I miss the repeating countdown timer for my heavy-bag work though. Going to give this a try and report back.
Will be running on Atrix BTW
EDIT: Just tried, would be great to have multiple timers at once. One to sound every minute, and then a different sound every 3 minutes. A way to achieve that would make it possible to do a whole workout without ever having to reset timer.
It looks great so far though!
Thanks for the feedback JVogler, I am glad that you mentioned that, because that is on my list a timer that can be set at different intervals. Right now I am working on keeping the timer running in the background as a Service, (thanks Gusar for reporting the issue).
very nice, gave it 5 stars.
Wow, thanks A.Priori , you guys are really giving me the ecouragment to keep improving and developing this app more. I really appreciate it.
By sometime next week, I will release a list of the features that I plan on putting in this app.
Hi spawn782
thanks for the app, nice and sleek.
I was missing this since I go Cyanogen.
Just something with the landscape mode, I think it should be redesigned a little.
As you can see on screenshot, the bottom is half cut when taking lap, and when taking new lap, it stays on the first (when it can maybe autoscroll ?).
Maybe you can just remove the grey at the top ?
Otherwise, very nice app, and keep your effort updating it
It's a 5 star for me.
Screenshot :
very nice indeed! thanks
One question, why does it need internet access, as you don't have any advertisements?
Ok, did some testing on my HTC Wildfire(240x320), works well in portrait.
But...Landscape doesn't:
This is in timer and in stopwatch mode, so landscape needs some more time. If you'd like me to test some stuff, pm me or send me an email
Thanks Alouch47, I will work on the landscape mode. I see fifarunnerr also has a problem with the landscape mode so I will definitly have to do some more work on that (thanks fifarunnerr for the offer to help, I may send you an apk after I am finished with the updates).
I do have a question about the landscape mode though, I was thinking that maybe its a mode that you would use in a scenario when you are exercising and you put the phone down a distance away from you. This is the reason why I made the numbers much bigger in this mode, so you can it from a further distance. In such a mode do you think the laptimer will be useful? I was thinking t maybe just cut off that part in landscape mode? You would still be able to record laps, but they will be visible when you return to portrait.
What do you think about that idea? Is the laptimer critical to users in landscape mode?
With regards to the Internet Access that Odyon asked about, its because I run analytics in the program. The reason being is that the anroid market analytics is really delayed for me. Today is the 11th of August and latest android market data (statistics) is is still on the 8th of August
Have to say that this shows promise, I would like to make an observation, let's say I'm using the stopwatch to time a 3 lap race, I click lap at the end of lap 1 and the time for lap 1 is shown, the same at the end of lap 2 the lap time is shown (lap 2) however I click stop at the end of the 3rd lap ( end of the race) and I would expect to see the lap time for lap 3 however this doesn't appear can this be implemented?
Also a useful function would be the ability to export your lap times as a text file.
looking forward to further updates.
I just installed it.
Very useful and simple to use.
thanks
yes that can be implemented, (lap on stop) and will be added to feature requests. I will update the first post
Very well designed, simplicity is the way to beauty.
I´m also missed the timer on my cyanogen rom so, thanks so much for your work.
Best regards.
thanks mhut
This is a very nice looking timer, however in terms of functionality and quick use, I can't find anything better than UltraChron Stopwatch
Notice how on the bottom there is a very easy and intuitive way to switch between stopwatch and countdown modes. Your app requires pressing Menu, Set Timer, adjusting the time, Set Timer button, then start. With UltraChron you click Timer, adjust time, then start. I just think your app's current method of using the same screen for two functions is a bit less elegant than it could be. Another feature it has that I don't think I can live without is it shows time left in the notification bar when you have a timer on, and updates every minute with the number of minutes left. I am not trying to tell you to copy this app, I am just saying this app has been around for a long time and you can learn from its ideas.
Also, your app only allows the numbers to be changed with the arrows. I think it would also be nice to be able to press the number itself to change it directly via on screen keyboard (just like changing alarm clock times, which give both up and down buttons as well as direct input).
I'm looking forward to seeing the growth of this app, and I hope my suggestions have helped.
BTW this is my post number 1337
Thanks c00ller, I appreciate your feedback and opinions and I agree with your comments (great points about the usability) and they are on my list to be implemented, but I figured it would be best for me to get it out first and then start rolling out the updates as I get them completed. Thanks for your feedback and I will implement these changes over the next couple of updates.
Hi Guys, I just wanted to let you know that I updated the app a bit. Sorry I have not been able to add all of the features suggested so far, but I spent most of the time trying to fix bugs that caused force closes. I hope that I have fixed most of the bugs so that I can now roll out feature updates quicker that before.
Again, thank you very much for your feedback and support.

Can't wake up? Are you turning off your alarm before you're fully awake?
The Tilt Alarm is the perfect alarm clock for anyone that struggles to wake up in the morning. "It's almost like having someone right there to wake you up".
Our goal was to make "snoozing" easier than pulling the battery or force closing the alarm while still making sure the user wakes up. This goal led us to completely re-thinking the concept of snoozing. The current method of snoozing leads to lost time and grogginess in the morning. What we really want in the morning is the music off, and the reassurance that we'll make it out of bed in time.So how did we accomplish this?
When the alarm rings, the user has to tilt their phone almost perfectly vertical for a set amount of time (Tilt Time). The volume will fade as the phone is tilted and once the Tilt Time has been reached the alarm will end. If the user starts falling back to sleep, their hand will fall causing the Tilt Time to reset and the volume to increase.
We suggest starting with the default Tilt Time of 30 seconds if you're able to get a full nights sleep. If you've been up all night working or studying we suggest a longer tilt time such as 45 or even 60 seconds.

My normal alarm app isn't effective as I always go back to sleep. Thank you so much for this!
Awesome work dev
Sent from this toast making Nexus 5, you wish your Nexus could make toast don't you? (;
Clever concept. Will give it a try.
Currently, I am using my kids as my alarm. How? Just using the built in alarm clock on our Android devices. Once the alarm is triggered my 3kids will rush in my room, jump and dance all they can in my bed...the alarm tone is "Gangnam Style" lol. Recently, alarm tone is "Let It Go" from the movie Frozen and you'll hear my daughter singing out loud the song. Anyway...will give it a try, badly need an alarm that will really make me get out of the bed.
It is a very nice idea. I just installed it, I'll see if it works for me.

Nice app and really great concept. But here are some suggestions to take this app to next level.
1. More detailed notification..something along the lines of "Next Tilt Alarm is set for 6:30 AM on Mon 17" OR "Xx hours xx minutes before next tilt alarm" (I like the first version better)
2. Multiple day (S,M,T...etc) alarm rather then me changing time every night.
3. Notification only shows xx hours before alarm is about to go off. (For instance if I set an alarm for 9:00 am and set notification to show up before 10 hours before then the notification will show up at 11:00 pm).
4. Tilt meter (Kinda like air bubble in leveling tool) when the alarm goes off so I know if I'm holding it right. And also a timer that shows how many more secs do I have to hold it.
5. Snooze/End button will show up after holding the phone correctly for xx amounts of secs.
6. Tutorial/Trail run as to how to turn off alarm on before first run/first setup of alarm. (This morning alarm went and I couldn't figure out how to turn off the alarm because I didn't read the description, which is bad on my part and I had to reboot)
@xsirhc6x what do you think?
Introduction
Hello Everyone,
As a budding developer, I have created a small utility app RingThru which will help users to customize the ring/silent/vibrate modes on incoming calls.
Now you can leave your phone on silent/vibrate/ringing mode, and still receive a ringing/silent/vibrate tone for your most important contacts.
Somebody called you at 2am but it turned out it was a promotional call.
You are in a meeting but you want to pick up call of your sick mother.
Your kid got in trouble and you are busy presenting conference, don't you want to pick up his/her call.
Features Overview-
Ring - Put your phone on silent or vibrate and let selected contacts Ring
Silent - Put your phone on ring or vibrate and let selected contacts always on silent
Vibrate - Put your phone on vibrate and let selected contacts on vinration
Clean and neat UI.
Its not a service which runs in background. Battery friendly App, just start and stop the listener whenever you want.

FAQ
Q.1 How should I start the functionality of call detection?
A.1 On top of action bar you will find a Start icon. Just click on it to get started.
Q.2 I tried to click on Start icon but nothing happens? Why?
A.2 Its because you haven't selected any contacts. Therefore there is no use of starting the listener.
Q.3 Do you store any contacts or retrieve any information of about contacts?
A.3 Your contacts are not stored anywhere. They are loaded in the app locally and never accessed remotely.
Q.4 Sometimes there is delay in ringing/silence/vibration detection of calls?
A.4 It may happen sometimes. For best results don't wipe the app from recent apps.
P.S - its my first app (Don't criticize so much  , just kidding), so kindly give your valuable suggestions and feedback.

Great app. Needs :
1) To silent calls from using few starting numbers (eg. 1400.....)
2) Integrating call blocker ( It would be nice, but it's up to you)
3) THEMES!!!

Hey there,
your app sounds very interesting.
One question before I will try it out:
I set my phone to silence mode automatically via Tasker at 11PM and it switches back to "normal" at 7AM.
Will this still allow specific calls to arrive with sound during 11PM and 7AM?
can you have some contacts to ring and different contacts to stay silent
Sounds good, installing now.
timed function
I would like to be able to have the application active during the night and not active during the day that way only important contacts could wake me and not a telemarketer.

good luck
Nice, I love simple functional apps.

Yes, that's pretty much how it works and it really works. I tried the app and I'm genuinely impressed with its performance. I still need to monitor its effect on my battery, but I doubt it would be much of a drainer.
Hello,
I love the app idea, but it's not really working for me.
I cannot select contacts, there aren't any showing up?
Kind Regards

I haven't tested this weather if it conflicts with other app or not. If tasker only lower's your volume and make it silent, then technically it should work and ring the calls. I will test and revert back to you and moreover timing feature will be added in upcoming release

Can you please tell me where your contacts are stored ? In SIM or Internally ?
Works perfectly on my Verizon M8. Does precisely what I need it to. Thank you!
