Wondering if you've tried clearing data of Google Translate, then uninstalling and reinstalling? In any case, if that doesn't work and you can't find it through a Google search, perhaps you can be more specific about which languages you're after.

When I downloaded Spanish, it first said "Downloading Core File" or something along that line, and it had a ? next to it which I clicked and it said that its a separate download necessary for off line translation. More importantly, where the translation files are stored, it appears that the files, since I only have english and spanish installed, are labeled in the fashion of en_es and es_en. Note though, that I hadn't previously installed Spanish but that it is the only language I've used with Google Translate, so this may be a factor but my guess is that its a result of what's installed as there's more than one of these files and the directory is sort of large.
So that said, I'm not sure if this would actually work if we had all the same languages installed, or that since mine defaults to English, and the phone's locale for English is Australia, if it makes a difference.
This is what I pulled from /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.translate/files though, which is where the data seems to have gone as near as I can tell. There are some database files in /data/data/com.google.android.apps.translate/ along with some other stuff and it a small amount of data in there, but this too may be important but if its linked to my account then it wouldn't work I don't think so I'm not including it.
Okay so as stated, here's what I pulled and its at /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.translate/files
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzBXVgEr6tYzQlg1WHlla0RkZ3M/edit?usp=sharing
I'm deficient when it comes to making zip files at the command line. If you're unfamiliar with .tar files, you can put it on the sdcard, then open terminal emulator and in the case of this particular tar file, enter cd /sdcard/ and then after that tar -vxf translate-files.tar -C /
you might want to backup that directory yourself first or delete it and reinstall google-translate if it breaks things or simply doesn't work.
Also, if you need differant languages than just Spanish and English, especially since it seems to create things corresponding to what I have installed, I don't mind downloading other languages and trying it out like that, but quote this post if its the case or I won't know you replied. Hopefully the core file didn't go to the /data partition as it might then be linked to my account and replacing that wouldn't work in that case.

If this is for a reason of country restriction, by the way, if you install MarketEnabler along with Hotspot Shield, you can still spoof the country your in. Hotspot Shield should be uninstalled after you're done though, and uninstall it by stopping the app then clearing the data, then uninstall, or freeze it (also after clearing the data) if you're rooted. I've used that to install apps only available in the U.S.
I don't remember why I had a problem with HotSpot Shield being on the device. It autostarts at boot (and probably on other system events) which can be disabled if you're rooted so it must have gone beyond that. I think it was more than just not wanting a proxy that logs stuff or can man in the middle... maybe it had push ads or something else that wasn't appropriate, I can't remember now.

If answer to original question is still needed, it's there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42500594#post42500594

Is it possible to save the offline dictionaries in the sd card? I have tried moving the google.translate folder to my sd card, but the application does not see them. Another try was to first install the application in the sd card, then try to download them, but without success. Also, having the app installed in the sd card, I moved the files to the sd card, again with no success.
I have a Galaxy S4 mini, and I amasking for a solution without having to root the phone.
I have the same question for Google music, but I think it is more difficult to this app. I know that there is a solution in rooted phones, with mounting drives. But I need a simplier solution.

[ROOTING], Rooting HTC EXPLORER (A310e/PICO)

SOrry Guys Forgot 2 mention earlier. I moved To Xperia Mini Pro, So any1 else can take over and help PPL here taking hell outta there explorer
How to:
1. Download the files - "HTC Pico_Recovery,Boot with ext 2 3 4 support" , "BCM4330.KO" "superuser" from Below link,
"Superuser.zip" - http://www.4shared.com/file/KalrHXNj/Superuser.html
"Bcm4330.ko" - http://www.4shared.com/file/GbW0ZtaT/bcm4330.html
"HTC Pico_Recovery,Boot with ext 2 3 4 support" - http://www.4shared.com/zip/920-kXYc/HTC_Pico_RecoveryBoot_with_ext.html
2. Extract "HTC Pico_Recovery,Boot with ext 2 3 4 support" somewhere. say: desktop or some drive, copy "BCM4330.ko" onto ur adb "Tools" folder. Copy superuser.zip to ur Sdcard.
3. connect ur "Htc explorer(Pico) via USB" and open "recovery.bat from the folder u just extracted.
4. Wait relax, and watch ur device getting new underGarments. now as the time pass the "command Prompt" which just opened after opening "recovery.bat'' will show "adb reboot recovery" as the device boots to recovery, u will given new menu with blue fonts.
5. Now in recovery go to "Mount & Storage" and select "mount /system" with device connect via USB
6. I presume u have adb already setup on ur pc/laptop. Open "CMD" and type.
HTML:
adb shell mv -f /system/lib/modules/bcm4330.ko /system/lib/modules/bcm4330.bak
adb push /full/path/to/bcm4330.ko /system/lib/modules/bcm4330.ko
7. Now, select "unmount /system" from recovery menu (from where u earlier mounted /system)
8. select "goback" from below. now go to "install zip from SDcard. and and slect first open (which says choose zip from sdcard, or somthing like this). find the "superuser.zip" which u copied to ur sdcard and flash by selecting it.
9. Now if flashing goes smooth and it says "install zip from sd complete" then reboot ur device and enjoy.
For getting more space on ur device, download "link2sd"
For link2sd to work, i have attached tutorial for this (which i found by googleing) in Jpeg format (picture)
after getting link2sd to work , u can link the apps to sdcard and save more on device.
there is another option for getting more space on device.
Just download "terminal emulator" from market. pls note: u need to be rooted for this.
and give su permission to the app when prompted.
just enter
HTML:
su
pm setInstallLocation 2
now u will be taken to the next line and thats all
all ur apps will be installed to sdcard automatically. please note: when installing widgets, pls move them back to ur phone memory as they dont work on sdcard
Suggestion: You can pm me if you have some confusions or facing some problems rather than going some where else. I am always happy to help and there for the android community

Hey jitin02,
Thanks a lot for the post... But here are some changes I had to do to root my phone.
a. To install recovery:
The bat file kept waiting for the device infinitely. I just manually ran the two fastboot commands and the reboot command to setup recovery.
b. Copying superuser files:
Your method of extracting the zip file and then pushing them over to the /system directory will surely not work on windows systems, especially FAT32 file system computer, su file will not have executable rights when its copied into the dir.
right way is
copy superuser.zip to sdcard
boot into recovery
choose install from a zip option and point to that zip
Thanks for the post!

Unfortunately I bricked mine too. Oddly everything was fine for a while. Until it starting giving a wi-fi error and after that I tried to fix it with a reset and after doesn't go any further than the HTC logo. Any thoughts in how to bypass this other than flashing a new rom? I kinda liked my stock and didn't backup.

everything works perfect, you have to install android market separatelly and reboot for it to work (at least me). Full reboot (untick the fast reboot from settings)
I am preparing a custom rom with preinstalled apps and without the chinese ones, i will be posting it soon.
I have a good news for HTC Explorer users'. My friend, he rooted it successfully. I'll post a translator tutorials about it for u all soon.

Sorry for asking dump questions

Should have stayed with my original... anyone has a backup of an original rom?

I didn't find any ROM but that one, managed to make android market work by rebooting the phone (full reboot, untick the fast reboot option)
dont know how to add new languaje (if possible)
to modify ROMs just eliminate the .apk you want from system/app inside the zip and add any you want, I just modified mine and added like 15 different apps (file explorer, Copilot, android market, music player, adobe flash...) and doesn't use any memory (just available ROM) you have around 50mb free . once you install it look for available memory left with programs like APPS2ROM (it doesn't work in our HTC but helps me see ROM memory left).
i am going to try now to add an app to ROM memory by just creating a .zip file with /system/app folders and the .APK in it, let see if it works
Yes I figured now, you have to reboot the phone. Works fine now. Already made a clean backup.
Ive seen a file which has many apps listed and SHA1 keys in it. hats why I am asking for howto cook your own rom. Let me know if it worked. Would be great if I could add and remove some stuff

I am afraid it doesn´t, ("Installation aborted" message in Recovery). I will look for a diferent way to do it, not as simple as making a .zip file with "system/app/**.apk"
You can still uninstall them from rom memory using apps like "rom uninstaller" in andoid market
EDIT: found a way around it , just add the .apk inside "/system/app" in the "superuser.zip" found in the first post
http://www.4shared.com/file/KalrHXNj/Superuser.html
you already have this app in your phone so there is no problem in reinstalling it everytime you like on top of it (it even is the "pro version" of superuser, not the one on the custom ROM)
everything perfect
just note that no ALL of the apps work perfectly in the ROM memory, some crashed when opening them and had to uninstall them using "rom uninstaller" and install them manually
(I found just 2 small ones)
Yes while experimenting I found rom uninstaller too. and I managed to get rid of Sense 3.5 and some other stuff.
I installed GO Launcher EX instead and it runs alo better and faster than Sense.
Even this is my first Droid, I love it. I will make some Screenshots of it as soon I am dne with work.
I thank XDA and all users for the great work. Now I need to figure out if there is a way to install more languages.
For all PMing me... Scroll up to find the ROM

I guess the problem is with recovery.img that we flashed, if there is someone who has not touched it yet, can you take a backup of it?

[Q] Inevitable Newbie questions

Bought a rooted Captivate on ATT with ICS 4.0.4 and cyanogen 9. Tried to unlock it but could not get nv_data.bin to copy to my sdcard. Ended up just calling ATT and they gave me the code.
Forgive me if these answers are here. I looked, I couldn't find them.
Why doesn't cat /efs/nv_data.bin >> /sdcard/nv_data.bin result in the file being copied to the sdcard next to the sim card? Does that sdcard have a different name? I put an apk file on there via my computer (LOST.DIR was there from the phone, btw) but the phone said nothing was on the sdcard, which means I'm looking at the wrong sdcard somehow?
Why does my SGH-i897 have an i9000UGKG3 baseband and does that make the phone a GT-i9000 or is it still an i897?
Why does Google Play not allow registering a second device so that the app store can be accessed? I got the apk for the store downloaded and installed, but it just launches and then immediately closes.
I found KIESAIR-1.apk, downloaded it but that halts with a message "Application not installed." No idea why. Tried two versions of Kies Air. Both installations halted. I did check allow unknown sources. I want Kies Air because I cannot get USB to work with the phone on three different Windows laptops and that's a whole other kettle of fish.
Much appreciate any info you can share.
-Bob
To answer your first question, i think the command would be going to /mnt/sdcard instead of just /sdcard.
I loathe kies air. You can use "Air Droid", it should be on the market. There are other similar applications where you can transfer files via Wi-Fi. Hopefully someone else here will help you with accessing the market.
The baseband is the modem(or radio, not sure what term exactly) your phone is running, which is what the phone uses to get a signal and access the data network People report higher data speeds, better signal, and better GPS reception with different modems. It's still a Samsung Captivate. I'm using an I9000 modem as well.
That's all I can answer for you, I'm sort of a newbie too. Lots of reading and googling helps.
the micro sd card is mounted as
/sdcard/external_sd
the path /sdcard is the internal user storage.

Thank you very much. So that I can have better luck with Google searches in the future, can you tell me how you came to know this? All I came up with in my searches was /mnt/sdcard but that turned out to be the system card and I'm lucky I didn't screw up anything.
Found the various wikis on XDA for Captivate and now reading through them.

Are you sure gapps was ever flashed once CM9 was installed? You might flash it again anyway and see if that helps. I've never known Play to limit registrations.
It has to be part of the firmware? Is that what you mean by it has to be flashed? Where can I read about that? BTW, I now have access to the phone via Android Sync Manager over wifi. Trying to find a way to put contacts into it without using Gmail. Seems I can't see the entire file system. The contacts are supposed to be in a file in this path data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts.db, but that path doesn't show up. How come? I'll be looking back at this post someday chuckling, but for now, I'm mystified.

When you install cyanogenmod Google apps (gapps) aren't included. If the previous owner didn't add them then none of your Google apps nor your sign in will be present. Even if it is already installed a reinstall may help.
Download this: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
Reboot to recovery and install zip from sdcard. You'll have to find and choose the file you just downloaded. Reboot and see if things aren't square.
You can also do a nandroid backup from the recovery so you can get back to where you are now if things go awry. Side note, if you want to install the latest cm9 nightly the method is the same.
You can find clearer instructions via the cyanogenmod site should you feel uneasy about proceeding. I'm away from the PC and typing from my phone or I'd try to be more thorough. Good luck!

I just checked and found my contacts where you mentioned. You probably just need to copy the file using a file manager and move it to an accessible location you can see from the PC. I like root explorer. ES file manager is good, too, and free.
Since you may not have gapps I'd try that first and it may create the contacts db.
Hi,before I can try what you suggested, I need to straighten out what's up with my file system. I still cannot see my external sd card in file operations, even though the phone shows it is present, lets me mount and unmount it. If I copy something to it from the laptop using a card reader, nothing shows up when it is mounted in the phone. The other mystery is that with ES file explorer, I still do not see the contacts.db file path, so I'm doing something wrong. Once I can see that path and see the external sd, I'll follow your instructions.
-B
Make sure you have root function enabled in es file explorer. It's in settings.
With the external sd , on cm9 you'll find it at /emmc. (or /mt/emmc)
But read up on flashing.... You won't regret it.
Sent from phone with app
i believe the external sd card is called emmc on the ics roms
try opening a terminal emulator, then type:
df
the ouput from df will give you total space and free space for mounted paths, including your sdcard, if it is mounted.
if you want to see rootsystem files, run su before df.
there is a free terminal emulator on google play, aka market, if you need it.

At this point, how do you feel about starting over? Some people aren't comfortable with a full factory reset and/or starting over with stock gingerbread, but I'd be leaning toward that at this point. I'm not completely sure it's necessary but I've wiped clean for less.
Well, after many days, I am now finally importing 750 contacts without exposing any of them to a 3rd party server such as Google, etc.
1. There's a link here somewhere for version 1.3.450.0 "Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones. The filename was SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
2. Forget about Kies. Somebody said it won't work unless it sees Touch Wiz. I don't know if it would work under any circumstances.
3. For my 750 contacts in blackberry, I made an .ipd backup of the blackberry using the RIM software, then used ABC Amber Blackberry Converter which can extract data from IPD backups and exported my contacts as CSV.
4. I used Windows Address Book to read the CSV file created by Amber and saved the file with .WAB as a Windows Address Book file.
5. I used the inexplicably free and astoundingly well-executed Wondershare MobileGo for Android program to link to my phone. On one computer it immediately identified the model and showed all contents. On another computer, it could not see the phone, and went to the web without prompting, downloaded a driver, installed it and loaded the phone into the program. Amazing. All I did was click on contacts on the left and then the small down arrow under the word "Import" on the Import icon. It took me about an hour to realize this was how to get the program to import different formats other than vcard. It somehow immediately found the .WAB file, and imported the 750 contacts where are now on the phone.
6. For the purposes of entertainment for those who know better and education for those who don't, here were some of my downfalls: All the apps may respond to that little funny symbol on the left, below the keyboard adjacent to "Samsung." I didn't know for the longest time that was a critical menu key. Also mirthful, I didn't know that you can just draw downward from the top of the screen and get a kind of status page where you will see "USB connected" which you must press if you want to copy stuff to the phone. I will now read the phone's manual.
It seems that the external card under Cyanogenmod 9 is /mnt/emmc/ instead of where programs expected it to be. I got a program called Directory Bind and tried to make it so that /mnt/emmc/ would automatically be seen as /mnt/sdcard/external_sd but it said that that wasn't a valid target. Any ideas there? Meantime I have done it from terminal but I don't think that will stick beyond a reboot.
Damn you learn quick. When I first discovered the menu key it was like discovering a while new world.

[ROM][Deprecated]Lenovo Vibe Z - Rooted + Google Apps

Well, some of you might have had the same urge to buy one of these little wonder with almost the same data sheet than a LG G2 but with a Dual SIM functionality and at a much smaller price. If you are one of these crazy people that ordered their in China just like me, you might have the same disappointment that I felt when I finally received mine: the advertised SD Card slot is just a fantasy and all Google apps have been replaced by their Baidu counterparts. If the English language is indeed present in the Operating System, none of the installed application seems to understand this language. If you just don't speak Chinese just like me, you might end up wondering why on earth you bought a smartphone destined to Chinese people.
So I decided to turn this frustration into something positive and succeeded so I'm happy to bring you my home cooked ROM for the Lenovo K910. But first of all, the usual disclaimer:
Disclaimer
Don't hold me responsible if you brick your phone. This method have been successfully tested on mine but this is no guarantee for yours. You should obviously always have a backup of your data at all time if you're willing to install this ROM (or any other).
Safety measures
Like most Android phones, the Lenovo Vibe Z have many possibilities of recovery. I would advise you to be ready to apply at least this one:
Download the QSB file of your ROM (for example, mine is K910_SS_S_2_040_0039_131101.qsb). Google will point you to a Baidu site where it is downloadable
Put it in the folder /sdcard/SDFUSE/
Shut down your phone
Hold Volume Down and Power button for a few seconds
You end up in a menu with a "SD Card Update" entry. Move down to this entry using the Volume Down button then press ENTER or power button.
Make sure your ROM is available in the list
Cancel and reboot
If your QSB file is visible in the list, you should be pretty safe. If anything goes wrong, use the same method but apply the upgrade this time. Note that this method overwrite everything included your applications, SD Card, ...
What it is
The ROM I'm offering is:
An extract from K910_SS_S_2_040_0039_131101.qsb
Applying only to your system partition (your applications and data should be safe)
Rooted
Busybox-ed
Grossly freed from most vendor applications
Replaced by Google applications
What it is NOT
This was already some work to figure out how to reach that goal so it is not:
Bug free (I have at least observed a strange display glitch for the network icons which turn standard blue instead of Lenovo's white one)
A multi-language ROM
A ROM build from scratch like MIUI, Cyanogenmod, ...
A custom recovery (though this might come in a later stage)
...
Prerequisite
You should have installed:
K910 ADB Driver (available on the CD that appear when you connect the device)
ADB
Fastboot
Just check that your USB debug mode is enabled (in the USB Access Mode menu).
In any of these prerequisite is an issue for you, I'm ready to explain you further but you should also wonder if you are ready to go further because if anything goes wrong, you won't be able to properly act.
The installation
OK, enough talking, now some action. It is pretty simple actually:
Download the ROM and un-7zip it (mirroring in progress)
Reboot your phone in bootloader mode. Therefore, open a command prompt (no matter which OS you're using) and type:
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
Now your phone is displaying the Lenovo logo
Check that you can access the system
Code:
fastboot devices
If fastboot just return displaying nothing, you might have to run in Administrator/root mode. Under Linux, I had to use sudo.
Unlock the bootloader (this should wipe all your data if it wasn't unlocked previously):
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Flash the system:
Code:
fastboot flash system <path-to-file>system.img
Reboot:
Code:
fastboot reboot
That's all folks ! After your phone restarts, you should be able to use Google applications (though not all of them are there, at least the Play Store is allowing you to install the others).
What's next ?
I hope to be able to free some time to achieve these next steps:
Publish the script I wrote to extract content from Lenovo QSB files
Apply the same method to the last upgrade (K910_SS_S_2_040_0078_131203 ?). If you are lucky enough to have this version please contact me to see if you can provide the QSB file.
See if I can cook a custom recovery.
This is probably my very first participation to the community so I'll accept any comments as long as they are constructive :good:
Thanks!!!!!
Thank you so much, I'm crazy because I get the phone and to try, where is the link to download please??
Thanks again, you can post pictures?

Another important question ... How did you rooteado?
What program did you use?
Thanks.
All need you help please.
I'll need just a few more hours since my upload just missed (I'm not sure why it only uploaded 437 Mb on the 659 Mb)
It will be for the first hours of 2014 (at least for me).

Probably in the most complicated way possible: I extracted the system partition from the upgrade file, mounted it in my Linux, put all the needed files and authorization then flashed it on my device.
I confirm that the file is now available but I need a few more messages before I can add the link. In the meanwhile, I can send it privately.

Sure I get it, I also took little time here and leaves add links.
You could pass it private?
With your permission I'll share it on other sites of course directing people to this thread so they can see their creator and comment.
In several HTCMania we are waiting to receive the phone and while we're compiling everything.
Root on many threads where people are wanting to get and so far you're the only one.
I await your email with the link partner, and with your permission I'll share. A greeting.

You should have received the link in the meanwhile. I'm also busy trying to mirror it on AndroidFileHost but it failed last time so just wait and see.

This means that next upgrade will most probably erase all the content of your phone (again) included your data and internal SD Card. This also means that flashing the first version of my custom ROM will make you "lose" 500 Mb, at least until a release based on the latest version of Lenovo's original ROM.
This also mean that:
Next Custom ROM upgrade won't be applicable to the not upgraded phone (you would be certain of bricking your phone)
You will lost 500 Mb worth of storage on your non expandable device
This isn't all good news ...

They are not good news. but I honestly what I need are 3 things:
1 Language Spanish, but we already you can not imagine not doing anything?
2 Root, to be able to use apps like Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, etc..
3 Very importantly, GAPPS (Play Store, Gmail), but of course in Spanish or English.
Your Rom has 2 I need and it is very important to me and very many users, it is a great job and the first to do so was you.
I do not mind losing 500mb, but I worry that the next official update is dangerous for us.
Thank you very much for sharing the link. If you write more answers in this thread at XDA have permission to put the link publicly, I think the requirement is 10 responses and almost have them.

You control by private (Because here I can not yet) a link to the version you want, I found on google, as I said I have not tested, I hope that this can do wonders lol
I also hope that I root Gapps and either Spanish or English: D

The few post I read about this are telling that it is close to impossible but I installed morelocale 2 on mine and it does add my language in the application that supports it.
Root is probably my top priority so it will stay available in the future releases
Play Store and GMail are present in the ROM and if you install morelocale 2, it will be in Spanish

Of course, the priority is Root.
About the Gapps in Spanish or Englis, the could include a patch?
If not, do not worry that you use MoreLocale2.
I'll try to find more links ... it's a shame it does not work ...
The good news with root access is that you can do a lot of crazy things. For example, I'm starting to understand why it is so hard to get this upgrade thanks to a network dump:
Code:
POST /reaper/server/config2 HTTP/1.1
Host: fsr.lenovomm.com
Content-Length: 131
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
Connection: Keep-Alive
User-Agent: Apache-HttpClient/UNAVAILABLE (java 1.4)
Config.2.1.2.imei.8628720201xxxxxxxxxxxxx
HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable: [B][COLOR="Red"]Back-end server is at capacity[/COLOR][/B]
Content-Length: 0
Connection: keep-alive
That said, I'm sick of coming close to the end and receiving a connection time out
Patience friend, I do not really understand how you could do, but I'm sure you will. Good luck ...

This should work since the system it pretty much self contained but since I haven't tested it, I really can't be sure. Furthermore, this is a downgrade of your system.
If you have this version, could you check if you still have the image on your sdcard? This could be in folder /sdcard/lenovoota.

ok, here's the deal:
1. I tried to push system.img but no working, adb respond "failed: targed locked".
2. I don't have the ota file anymore BUT I have the K910_SS_S_2_040_0109_131226.qsb file. I poot this one in sdfuse folder and updated already before starting procedure with adb from above as you described, no problem just flashed it, btw it wipes everything.
So, my opinions:
1. Locked target issue could be determined by the bootloader beeing locked? Don't we need to unlock it somehow?
2. Can you reinsert root and gapps in this newer version K910_SS_S_2_040_0109_131226.qsb file?
3. How do you decompiled .qsbfile ?
Waiting for your feedback asap.
Respect.
Obs:
- we can use android-aio-flasher just to substitute from working with cmd commands... just sayin', works for me.
- reboot in recovery command doesn't work, just adb reboot bootloader, then lenovo logo appears.
- correct command for pushing system.img is adb fastboot flash system path to system.img.

You are right. I didn't know about android-auto-flasher, probably because I'm running Linux (which made my task easier to cook the ROM since the system partition can be mourned like any other).
I edited my first post with your correction and the link since I have now 10 messages on the board !

[Q] Unable to install GApps on Maxell C8 with ICS

Hi all,
I'd like to politely ask for your help with adding Google Play to my friend's tablet which unfortunately doesn't provide this app in factory setting.
First of all I'd like to mention that I've searched here before (and other sources over the internet as well) and found many threads with similar issues. Still I was unable to get everything working because of some problems that I'm not able to solve as I'm still just a user... Unfortunately it seems that each device is unique and requires a little different stuff to reach the goal.
So here's some basic information about the device:
Maxell Maxtab C8
Android 4.0.4
Kernel version: 3.0.8+
Here's what I was able to do so far:
Successfully rooted the device
Successfully set -rw to /system (using the "Mount /system (-rw / -ro)" app
I've tried many various Google Play installers including:
Android Market_install_files.zip
PlayStore_v4.6.17.apk found somewhere here in the forums
And about 5 more other without any success. Result is that Google Play is there but it doesn't work - I mean the icon has been added, Gmail account has been "assigned" to it during its first run and then every time I try to run Google Play there occurs an error saying that "Google Play stopped working" and it simply won't run. I also tried the simple solution with "Android-Market_install_files" package (4 apps) - as I found out it's the official way how to use Google Play on devices where it's not preinstalled. Still it didn't work as well - again ended up with the same error (stopped working). But there is maybe some kind of problem with the installation because two of four .apk files included in the "Android Market_install_files.zip" package cannot be installed as the device tells me that this app cannot be installed because of the conflicting signature (I found more about this here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...g-package-by-the-same-name-with-a-conflicting). I'm using files signed by Google. Advices are to firstly uninstall the original apps and then install these but I'm not able to uninstall as I can't find them. Guess these are some kind of system apps and I'm not sure where to find them exactly. Still no luck even using Root Explorer. These apps are called "OneTimeInitializer-signed.apk" and "GoogleServicesFramework-signed.apk". I think maybe Google Play from this package could work but the problem is caused by the device which doesn't overwrite the original apps (because of the signature).
Currently I've also found GApps Manager (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589167) - I think this might work but I'm not able to test it at all. Simply I can't find how to get this Maxell tablet into recovery mode to find the "install from zip file" option.
Interesting is that there is no "Phonesky.apk" file in the device's memory...
Sorry for my post being soooo long but I'd like to provide as many additional information as possible.
Could you please give me advice how to install GApps on Maxell Maxtab C8 device or any other solution?
This could look easy for many of you but I'm working on it over two weeks now and I'm really clueless, even more when there are users confirming that Google Play works with this device. So I hope you're be so glad to help. Any help will be highly appreciated! Thanks!
With kind regards
PJ
Some info, since you have root, you can simply move .apk to your /system/app folder.
Also you had stated there is a conflicting issue with the same type of signature, this is because there is already an existing file of the same source.
To uninstall this .apk it usually located in the following folder(s).
- /system/app
And
- /system/priv-app
Just select and delete it. Reboot the device. And move your new files into /system/app and reboot. Make sure you also move Ann app called "Google Play Services.apk or GP will not start
Great things come in small packages.
Re:
Hi krishneelg3,
many thanks for your answer. Your advice looked really easy and reasonable but it didn't work.
I deleted all required .apk files from /system/app. Maxell tablet doesn't have /system/priv-app folder. Then I copied all the GApps files to corresponding folders in the tablet (/system/app, /system/etc, /system/framework, /system/lib). Then the setup wizard started but when I tried to confirm the setup guide touching the green Android icon it did nothing. After restarting the tablet I didn't see the setup wizard app any more. Tried about 5 times in a row from the beginning (copied the original files from the backup back to tablet, then replace them with the new ones from GApps) and always ended up with the same result.
There's also META-INF folder included in the GApps package. It seems to contain some certificates but I'm not sure what to do with it or where to copy these files. Could this be causing the problem?
Thank you very much.
PJ
I would like to tell you that, the GApps package is supposed to flashed via recovery.
The META INFO contains scripts to install and also certs
So if you have a custom recovery available for your device flash the custom recovery img and if you already have it then just flash it via recovery.
Sorry for the delay... I didn't manage how to switch the device to recovery mode. I tried many solutions reported to work for this device but they didn't for me. Some tested, some not because apparently my knowledge is user-level. To be honest after over 3 weeks trying I gave up.
But thanks for your effort.
Regards
PJ

How to add back a certain language from Claro H950PR 5.1.1 after deleting CLR_PR?

Hi All,
Was wondering if anyone can show me how to do this.
1) Flashed to Claro PR 5.1.1
2) Rooted with EasyRoot and rootedsystem.img
3) Used Root explorer and moved CLR_PR to my PC and deleted the folder on the phone. (I did this in order to make 4G/LTE stay after reboot or factory reset).
I see after deleting the folder and doing a factory reset, the language options during initial setup is more universal now with other languages reading from the phone.
My question is (and i hope it is not a difficult one), can I somehow take the language that was available with the CLR_PR folder, and make it available with the current status of the phone now? For example, if I wanted to make Espanol , Colombia language available, how would I go about doing so?
Is it as simple as editing or adding a line on a file on the phone to match the file from the CLR_PR folder? Some steps or examples would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You for everyone's help. Also will disabling checking off to disable superuser access be enough to bring phone to a non root status as far as the applications are concerned?
