[REQ] Can someone build Boot Manager for our phone from source? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is someone willing to build Boot Manager from the source Team Init2winit released? I would, but I don't have the skills to do so. I wasn't sure if this request went here or the Q&A, so feel free to move the thread if necessary. The source is here. Thanks!

I was so bummed when I found out it doesn't work with this phone. I bought a class 10 SD card just for this reason (oh well, now I'm stuck with a decent SD card ). Nice to see source released for this; I'm definitely not your guy to build it, but I second your request. I'll donate to that cause any day...

Actually, before the source was released, they had started work in the SGSIII. In fact, the source was edited to remove the GS3.txt file which included all that was needed for S3. I can uncommit the file and then upload it here in the OP if it'll help anyone.
EDIT: Nevermind, I'll just copy and paste everything since I can't actually uncommit it. I'm still getting used to Github lol

Well what you waiting for? It is super easy(USE NVFLASH!!) and will help you sleep better at night. Just do baby steps. Root... see how you like it, then after a while try out a custom rom...

I was thought about waiting till the update came down as well. Then I figured "hell, there are issues with the stock roms, why not try and find something more stable." The irony of it all was that my stock was pretty solid... I was just looking for the push off the wagon(recovering crack flasher from the g1). You won't be disappointed.
USE NVFLASH!!!!! I can't stress that enough. Everyday there is a new crop of "help bootloop" threads. Totally avoidable.

APP2SD is free on the market. It wont move everything to the external sd but it will move a lot and more is added all the time.

Ubuntu 12.04 Build Epic 4g kexec native boot

Concept based on thread started by gTan64: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1584659
This is an Ubuntu build which runs natively without any Android code. I made the build pretty minimalistic but still functional to keep the filesystem file small. Here is the first public release (v0.1):
Partition your sd card with the first partition being vfat, and second partition can be either ext2 or ext3.
Extract this to ext2 or ext3 partition on sd card:
Link removed by moderator - requres registration to download
Copy to vfat partition on sd card:
Link removed by moderator - requires registration to download
What works:
- Touchscreen
- Framebuffer based video when booting, xorg (landscape mode)
- Mouse, keyboard (only non-Function keys), gdm, lxde
- Sound (need to add sound controls)
- wireless network
What doesn't work:
- Graphics acceleration
- function keys, need custom keymap
Not all hardware yet tested such as camera etc.
To boot, reboot into CWM recovery with kexec, and select update from zip, then select epic4g-kexec-ubuntu-kernel-0.1.zip.
UPDATE: oops left this out, but username/passwords are:
root/root
ubuntu/ubuntu
Also it looks like wireless is actually working
I think it's against forum rules to have the download links take you to a website that you have to sign up to use/access downloads.

wow, this is an amazing project. Why does everybody wanna gripe about rules. At least say thanks before criticizing. I would love to see a fully working version of ubuntu working on my epic. It also might push people back into the video out hack development.

Yeah sorry about that, I didn't mean to gripe at the OP. I was just kinda pissed off that I went to all the trouble to format/partition my sd card and couldn't even download the files to try it out. Sorry for complaining, hopefully the OP can sort it out so I can try this.

It should work but isn't, configuration just needs to be tweaked. Thats why I wanted to put out this beta version so all feedback welcome. I'll play around with it when I find some extra time.
UPDATE: looks like wireless is actually working (at least on my phone). If anyone wants to test let me know if it works for you. Well almost working, I'm getting these errors from wifi:

How to submit a bug.
When you submit a bug you want to make sure that nothing from your side is causing it.
Otherwise I might be hunting a bug which doesn't really exist.
The best way to achieve this is by doing the following.
Make a nandroid backup.
Perform a full wipe (factory reset + wipe /system)
Now we have two different ways depending on what kind of problem do you're having.
--When you're having a problem with a ROM function flash just the ROM without GAPPS etc. and boot back into the system. You will boot directly onto the homescreen.
--When you're having a problem with a 3rd party app in combination with our ROM then flash the ROM and GAPPS.
Boot now back into the system. You will boot to the setup wizard.
Log in to your Google account but make sure that you untick "Restore from my Google Account to this phone/tablet".
Finish the setup and open the playstore and download only the app you're having problems with.
Start a logcat recording and reproduce the bug (if possible more than once) while taking the logcat. If you don't know how to get a logcat read this tutorial or this.
Post the logcat in a txt file or on pastebin (this is important because you otherwise clog up the threads with your log) in the correct thread.
Please also write detailed how we can reproduce the bug.
Restore your backup from point 1 and wait for a fix (don't ask for ETAs).

FYI, installed A2SD, HammerSlammer, maxwoz GPS fix, and gapps 4.2.2 version at same time I flashed the rom. So far everything is running as expected. Haven't had much chance to play with it, but I'm sure someone is going to ask about your kernel and a2sd. Now to go finish chopping wood.
Very nice. Been running this off & on, on my Note 2 for months. Still running the copy for the evo that you sent me Eric, & it was awesome. Thank you.

You mention in the OP about a2sd testing, but when I went to terminal it said a2sd was not found. Should I flash it in recovery or is there an init.d issue?

[Q] Special Request - EOS-stingray-20130617-197 re-up...

As the title states, looking for a re-up of this rom. The file on goo.im from TeamEOS is corrupt and not usable, despite passing a hash-check. If someone could post a link to a known working copy of this rom, it would be greatly appreciated!
I've been trying to find them also. If I find them I'll post a link here. Seems like trying to find an uncorrupted copy is close to impossible. Hopefully someone posts a working link.

I've just succeeded in flashing and booting 199.
Quantumstate said:
I've just succeeded in flashing and booting 199. Catch is, you need to use the boot.img from 196. See my thread below.
I was happy to see I had 199 but hilariously, after I rebooted to TWRP and installed gapps, I boot then slide to get in, and it sits there forever trying to activate gapps. It won't let me in to set up wifi so it can frickin' communicate.
It will finally time out after about 15 minutes and let you set up wifi. Now I'm rocking 199.
Grab 196 & 199 before they get corrupted...

The general consensus is that -197 is the most stable version of that rom, the last one that can be considered a reliable "daily driver".
Have fun finding it.

I'm sure all downloads of it vaporized into the ether, or were magically corrupted along with the copy in the goo.im repository.
Thanks for trying to help, but it wasn't what I (and others, apparently) was looking for.
I need this as well. I find it hard to believe that nobody knows anyone with a non corrupt copy of 197.
This should be a good zip file of the EOS Stingray 197 build. I used it on my Xoom ages ago. Hopefully the Google share works. If not, let me know.

[Solved] Swap internal memory with SD on OmniROM

As the title says I'm trying to swap the phones internal memory with my 32gb Sd card but I can't figure how to do it. I tried the methods from stock ROM and CM but neither worked. If anyone can help here out would be much appreciated.

No, because Omni is 2 months old (not just for our phone, it was made 2 months ago in general). Maybe some of expirienced devs can tell you, but ones who are not that expirenced can't explain you how to do it.
By the way, did you try with some methods that works on CM 10.2?
Well I don't really know how to do it. I tried this (it worked in CM) in build.prop and it didn't work in Omni.
persist.sys.vold.switchexternal=1
ro.vold.switchablepair=/storage/sdcard0,/storage/sdcard1
I will try to search around some more but I doubt I can find the solution.

Open storage folder in system folder of root. And see if names are sdcard0/1. Maybe on Omni it is changed...
They are exactly like that.

Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426804
By that, you cannot do anything... Unless you implement it in kernel.
P.S. And definitely from some other post:
Kernel for switching internal & external SD
Because vold.fstab is no longer used and has been integrated in fstab.aries (which can only be changed before compiling the kernel, as it ends up in the ramdisk), I made a special kernel version with switched SD cards.
Click to collapse
Guess that means I'm going back to a lower android because I doubt our devs will modify the kernel at this stage just for this since they have more important stuff. Thank you very much for that.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using Tapatalk
I guess you can do it by an init.d script, re mounting partitions as you want after boot
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda app-developers app
Well I probably have no clue how to do that but I'll dig around. I'm just glad there might be a chance for swap to work.
Edit: Well I managed to solve my storage problem in some other way. Will share here if some other people need this. I used FolderMount app from playstore for all my large games. Free version only supports 3 folder mounts (that means 3 large games/apps etc) but I already bought the paid version, that unlocks everything, since it really solves all my issues. I can now stay happy on OmniROM!
