[Q] Been curious about swapping sd cards on HOX - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have not seen this done before in any posts and wondering. Would it be possible to dismantle the HOX and replace the sd card with a larger capacity? My sister in law gave me a HTC windows phone and said it went dead on her one day and threw it in the drawer. I played with it and never could get it back to working order. I scoured the net and found a way to replace the internal sd. So I put in a 1gb sd and now it works. Is there a way to do the same with the HOX , just curious.

unfortunately you cant.. the windows phone 7 devices used microsd card instead of nand inside em (although the sd slot wasnt accessible without disassembly), thats why it was possible to replace.. in this case the one x uses nand which is built into the motherboard, hence cant be swapped out like a microsd

From reading in the soff thread before it was achieved, if I recall correctly there are pads on the main board for a SD holder. Not sure if that's verified though.

so if the pads really are there, one would have to solder on the card slot to be able to insert a sd card?

SD card question

Okay guys I'm completely lost here when this device first came out, there was a lot of talk about an sd card slot am I missing something or is there an internal sd card?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Yes, there is an internal sd card which utilises the internal memory. If you root your device and install the Tiamat kernel you can now also have an external sd card
Where does the external SD card go?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
In the slot on the top edge of the device. There is a little pop out drawer which can take a sim card for the 3g/4g version, but also takes the sd card (micro sd that is).
Lol well consider me a self proclaimed [email protected] I've opened that up a dozen times and never noticed the SD card, probably should have referred to the manual first too
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Hi Mr. [email protected] LOL. You aren't the first don't worry, and who ever reads manuals anyway.
lol well if it makes you feel any better, I accidentally discovered it when I was searching for the "On" button. I felt like a real idiot when I eventually found this big obvious power button on the back.
I purposely give people my Xoom and say "turn it on." Usually takes a good 30 seconds or so.
when you got your device did you not see the lil removable slot and if you did and removed it, did you not see the fake little sdcard?

Storage capacity question, increase or something

Hello All!
Just got HTC One S in the mail today, I was aware of the limited storage of the phone by reading the forums here, users said I should have around 10GB of "user" storage. Quite far from the advertised 16 haha!
I understand the ~2GB is dedicated to apps etc.
My question is:
Has anyone figured out how to repartition the storage in order to decrease app storage, and increase user storage? (maybe by a different rom etc?)
I personally wouldn't mind having 1GB of app space just to fit a few more albums of music (I love music on my phone)
I'm thinking even if I used nobloat to remove the t-mobile preloaded stuff, I would only increase the application storage (which does nothing for but increase just the application storage space?)
Somebody give me some help here
Anybody??
Removing the bloat will only free up space on your system partition, not /data where your downloaded apps are stored. I'm not sure if anyone has repartitioned the One S yet, though.

It should be possible, though, I did it on my HTC Hero

Your HTC Hero prolly had S-OFF or a similar removal of protections in place. As of now, without S-OFF we cannot repartition, becaue we cannot write to locked areas of the NAND / NVRAM (whatever it is exactly...) and therefore we can't resize partitions.
Nope, no S-off
Question
the question is another: can we physically change the sd-card hosted inside the phone with another one of a bigger capacity? (32 / 64 gb like in the HTC Mozart)

That's assuming its an actual SD Card, and not some memory soldered in place (most likely)

Run some read/write speed tests, you'd be pretty lucky to get an SD card that could put up the numbers this phone does. It's a very tiny chance it's an SD card, but I refuse to give up hope until it's proven.

me too, as I am getting up to 18mb read and I backup a lot, so it is welcome
I am converted to no sd card phones, as the memory here is fine for me--got dropbox/google drive etc if needed
If you have decent coverage in your area you can try google play. And I'm pretty sure you can download the music directly to your phone from it, if the area you'll be in is spotty.

Does anybody actually read the specs before they buy something ? HTCs website says its 10gb user available storage and so does the back of the T-Mobile box it comes in !

Do you... He said he read the fourms and was aware of the 10gb user space.
I think he's asking if that can be changed.
And to answer that, without S-Off I don't think so.
Sent from my rooted and debloated T Mobile HTC One S
You definitely won't without s-off. Or, more likely an exploit like Blackrose which was developed for the N1. Where it simulates s-off to resize partitions. But, is not true s-off as related to the secure flag. I don't know if it is easy for dev to look at Blackrose in N1 sub-forum and carry that over to One S--
So were talking about this:
4 GB's for the OS, 1 GB for the system apps (after potential resize). Gaining only 1 GB for the User. Increasing the User avalible space to 11GB's.
That seems like a lot of work for only 1GB. Unless someone could trim the OS down by half. 13GB usable....hmmm!

Another solution could be a usb host mode... Don´t know if that is possible?

Hi,
did anyone figured out which IC is used for storage?
Cheers
I read somewhere in one of these forums that someone did have success changing the sd card to a 32gb. And he even posted a video on how to open the device.

Getting TF300 Tomorrow

I'm getting the TF300 tomorrow. Is it safe to assume that that TF300 is one of the easier tablets to unlock and put a custom rom onto?

First of all this should be in the questions section. Second root is one-click and unlocking the device is done by simply installing the asus app and voiding your warranty.
Some questions
Sorry, I know that post isn't in de right section, but I have some questions with the same subject.
So, If I do root there is NO warrenty any more? even if it is a hardware problemem or somme thing like that?
Can somme one tell me please, wat is de max capacity of the usb reader, I mean, can I put a flash driver with 64GB for example?
The tab have a microSD port, I thing, but the docking have also a SD reader, so we can use 2 cards (one MicroSD 32Gb and one SD 16 Gb for example) together? If YES, how can i know were I'm writing my file, in internal, MicroSD or SD card?
----EDIT
I don't have the tab yet, I want to be sure if these tab will answer all my needs. Tanks
the internal storage is saved in /sdcard. MicroSD is in /Removable/MicroSD. I'd imagine SD card would be in /Removable/SD or something to that effect.
Tanks... But and about the flash driver... Wat is the maximum capacity, the tab read how much max?
Sorry for that ugly English

Manufacturer says 32gb. Some users have reported success with 64gb. I assume you are referring to the "microSD Slot" on the tablet itself.
Yes, tanks... But there is also a 2.0 USB on docking, so can I, normally put a pen drive? And how much is the limit of the pen drive?
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
The flash drive/pen drive slot is on the keyboard dock which is sold separately from the tablet. With the dock though, yes, you can put in a flash drive. I believe the limit is 32gb, but again, it's possible that it may accept larger sizes like 64gb. I haven't tried putting anything bigger than that though.

Well I got the TF300 today. I have to say it is by far one of the fastest if not the fastest tablet I have used. And I have used at least 5 in the last few months. And it has no backlight bleed which was my main concern. So far I am liking what I am seeing. The only thing that concerns me now is, no gorilla glass. I hope this thing has some sort of scratch resistant screen. Also why only the one speaker on the right side that is kinda lame. I can totally tell listening to stuff that sound is only coming from one side. Ok back to more testing...

Blank SD Card?!

I just got a notification on my galaxy s3 saying "Sd card blank or unsuported files.." if I open the notification it says are you sure you want to format sd card. I'm guessing the sd card just died. Is there anyway i can take my files off or are they gone. Any help soon would be appreciated.

Sounds like it's toast. Do you have an adapter you can plug it into your computer with? Try that, that would be your only way if it's still salvage-able. Thats what mine did when it crashed.
Do you think me rooting the phone caused it to crash

Probably not. Cards crash out of nowhere. Coulda been a defective card. How old is it? What are the other specs? Manufacturer, etc...

Thats about how long my card from my X lasted, a little over 2 years... I think that's just their shelf life. I'd had mine in my S3 as soon as I got it and had it rooted and ROM'd a few times without a prob. Then one day it just didn't work.
Thanks for the help also are there any brand SD cards you would recommend 16 or 32 gb

I've always bought SanDisk myself. Read the reviews of each specific card tho, even SanDisk has had some crappy ones.
Had been frustrating with my new Sandisk Ultra 32g till one day I was about to send my S3 in to demand for replacement, I did a final test of the card on other S3 & phones - & it had the same problem - SO IT WAS THE CARD....
Called Sandisk Distributor & they said it is a known problem between S3 & several SD brands but Sandisk has resolved the issue with the new batch of cards that has just arrived in Dec 2012.
Changed the card one-for-one & plugged it in immediately - Problem solved. Card remains usable again....

[Q] SD Card removed unexpectedly??

Anyone getting this error? SD Card removed unexpectedly?
I put the External SD Card I used in my Galaxy S3 for 2 years into new Xperia Z3 and within 10 minutes I was getting this error.
Removed card and formatted it. Put card back in and within a couple of minutes the same error?
Unsure what to do at this stage. I will try another card and see how that goes but I never had a single issue with that SD Card in the GS3 for 2 years.
It's a SanDisk SD Card. 32GB.

I'm sure!!
I've put another card in since the OP. Different brand (Transcend). That seems to be working OK.
Possibly just an issue with the SanDisk but as I said it dos work perfectly in my older GS3

With a name like G1032 I suspect British Army and with your avatar I suspect Royal Artillery (RA)
same issue but resolved by changed to a new samsung evo sdcard.
i believe my previous card is good but only not compatible
I've had similar issues on low end phones, but not high end ones. Could be a software bug in 4.4.4 since I have seen this happen on a few phones. Then again, could be SD Card corrupt issues and you may want to get it replaced.
Same here. Has happened 2x in a week.

Ah.
No not RA. Just random numbers I picked a couple of years ago!!
Found a resolution to this.
Did two things, but don't know which one solved it.
Reformatted card to exFat and also stuck a small thin label to the back of the card to increase overall thickness of the card to make certain it stayed in place. 14 or so hours now without issue.
