[Q] Request for an automated command. - General Questions and Answers

Hello. I have an idea about getting google satellite maps offline. The only way to have this is by zooming into the desired area and scrolling all the parts of it so the google maps store the images and then you can see them offline when you zoom in and out.
I have an idea. If you guys can develop an application that do this work automatically, more like a command that zoom the map and move thought the screen all his parts. This is the only way to download the map in the desired area. I don't know if this is possible.

rmaps app - import entire country map??

I found the Rmaps app because I'm going on holiday. Some problems with the maps though.
Is it possible to import an entire country map (google maps) into Rmaps? I found the pc software gmapcatcher, but don't know how to export it usably to Rmaps.
I know that hovering above the area in Rmaps caches it, but then I'd have to do that in different zoom levels, taking a lot of time. Is there a way to set the maximum amount of memory Rmaps can use to cache maps?
Hoping someone can help. The different guides out there are not very clear.
I know that with Mapdroyd I can download different country maps. But I prefer Google maps over the maps that Mapdroyd uses.
Sorry I think post is in wrong place, can someone move it to android apps?

I am using Navigon navigator, once my destination place is not mentioned in POI, How do i get navigation? once you are not much familiar with place. There is no online search option (atleast i know abt Navign India)
Here you need coordinates
Here simple guide to get coordinates from google Map
- Search your place on google map, long press it, it will popup address
- press address box and select to share this place
- select to share via , e.g. select messeging
- Now you can see a map link for your desired place, copy it
- Open Browser, Paste link in address bar, it will ask to open with, select Internet(Browser)
- Now your place will open in browser, n search tab contains digits in format of lattitude n longitude (like 22.306306,70.12345). Thats is your coordinate
- Note this and just open Navigon, select coordinate from menu, enter lattitude n longitude in respected field - Done
- Now you can get Navigation to your place offline with - Start Navigation
I know this is 2-3 step procedure, but if anyone knowing better n easy trick/ any app that showing coordinate share here

Can't just navigate to the address? Anywho, maybe you should look into an app more geared towards back country navigation or geocaching. There are quite a few in this category.

Not using Google Maps directly... Locus is the best.
I remember I used to be able to click in google maps and get coordinates. Useful, when I was in the middle of the lake and I wanted my friends to know where I was.

Thanks for the tip! I run a delivery company and use coordinates all the time. They are easy to get from the laptop but tried and failed numerous times to get them from my phone. This is a bit of an awkward way but at least it works. I don't know why Google don't implement a coordinate feature into the mobile app, it's such an essential tool for driving, gets you to within 5 meters of a point
I used to get coordinates this way and use it in Evernote. I guess this method is now obsolete as any attempt to share the place from Google Maps yields only a link and some texts.

Found a workaround: just head over to your browser and load Google Maps. Search for a place and hold down, use the 'what's here' option. It will search using coordinates and they will be visible in search box.
Also, the url generated from sharing a location in Google Maps app when loaded shows the coordinates in search box (at least in the mobile browser)

[Q] Google Maps - Loading a Saved Map

Hello everyone,
I've got a pretty simple question which I sadly couldn't find an answer for and I was hoping someone could maybe help?
I am going on holiday soon and I've created a map on Google Maps on my laptop which is saved to my google account. Is it possible to load this on my Google Maps app on my phone so that I can use it (offline if possible) when I am away? It is just a map with some places I want to visit rather than a route etc.
I tried playing around with the app but could seem to get it working.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

At this case i don't know if it's possible, but if you use google labs from maps at your device, you can cache maps you need offline.
There is no possiblity to calculate routs with this offline version, but you can search for places.
Check it, with opening maps -> Settings -> google labs -> check cache map (i don't know what it's real name in english, sry, but i'm sure you will find it^^) -> go back to normal mapview -> choose the middle of the map you want to cache -> open this point and at the bottom should stand something like save map to cache or so.
With this method you can save 16x16km area around the point you chosen. Up to 10 cached maps are possible and they can overlap if you want to.
Zooming and stuff like this is possible like everytime routes calculation is not possible.
Many thanks Tectas, that is a big help. I just tried now as I hadn't seen this function before.
OK it doesn't import the presaved map but it's still a very useful offline solution.
Much appreciated!

[Q] Need Help Finding Offline Walking Nav

I need an offline navigation app for walking. I've tried a bunch of different apps and a bit of Googling, I couldnt find an answer.
Google Maps lets me cache maps, but doesn't let me do offline navigation.
OsmAnd lets me do offline navigation, but the way it goes is really long. KML not supported either.
I can get the KML from Google, that's no problem. I just need an app that has a map and a line of the path I'm going. If I have to get the KML from Google, I can do that. OsmAnd is the closest I came, but they were giving 50+ miles walking directions when Google gave 16 mi directions to and from the same place.
It can be free or paid app. I just really want one that works. If you could cache the trip on Google Maps, that would be perfect because the maps are cachable and I don't need voice turn by turn, I can look at the map and follow a line. I just don't think you can do that.
Thanks for any help.
Offline Walking Navigation
Of course .. As soon as I finally ask for help, I find one that's perfect to my needs.
OruxMaps has KML importing and map caching. Allows you to reverse the track as well, so it will fit my needs perfectly.
Just thought I'd post in case anyone happens to stumble across this.

Question Google Maps without mobile

Hi,
there is any way to make Google Maps works without the mobile phone with the non LTE version?
I mean my watch 4 have the GPS sensor, if it is connected to the city WIFi, I'm able to open Maps, see where I'm, but when I select a destination point it doesn't start the navigation.. Y?
Then, there is any way to download some Maps area to use it offline? Would be very useful to running without mobile phone..
Thanks!!
Same question...
I can't believe that Google redeveloped this application and still left it in such a poor state. I don't know why you can't use it offline in the slightest - you'd think the most powerful smartwatch going would be able to navigate at least basically by downloading offline maps to the watch - there is plenty of space for it.
You can't even appear to move the map around when navigating...
Currently if your phone dies for any reason you have no chance of navigating out with Google maps on your watch.

I agree. Currently you can create offline maps in Google Maps on the phone app. I do this quite a bit because I'm in areas without mobile data. It would be great if they had a feature in Google Maps (phone) where you could download the maps to your watch. It currently lets you download them to SD card. The map that I use the most which covers much of the state of Wisconsin is only 300 mb.
What is even more maddening about the Google Maps watch app is that it does not work when you are running google maps on phone with offline map (with no mobile data). At the very least you would think the watch could use the offline map on phone.
You mentioned your concern of phone dieing and navigating out. Navigating out of what? There are map apps which you can download maps to your watch. I have not found a free one but ViewRanger looks promising. Not sure I'm ready to pay $40 a year though...
My watch has 4G connection but i don't know how to use map without my phone.
its not starting unless my phone is connected to the watch

I don't have the LTE version, so can't vouch for this personally, but this might help:
unfortunally this is not working in my case. i have the same settings turned on but the watch still want my phone to be connected
Unfortunately, the method shown also did not work for me.
When connected to the phone (S9), my Galaxy watch4 (non LTE version), allows me to search for locations on the watch, but Google Maps also opens up on the phone, so I have the required maps and directions both on the phone and on the watch.
Together (connected), they function without problem.
Away from the phone, after opening Maps on the watch and searching for directions, all I get is a blue dot on the centre of the watch screen and a message "Waiting for location..." until, after a minute or so, an exclamation mark shows up above the message "Couldn't get location".
Is there any solution to "navigate" with Maps independently from the phone?
Only thing to do is be as loud as possible until google actually fixes it. Having no offline map when the older samsung watches had it is outrageous.

The method shown on video was for a LTE watch. Regarding a solution for navigating away from phone, unfortunately not. The ideal option would be for there to be an option to move offline maps (which currently can be created with Google Maps on your phone) to your watch. The file sizes are not that big. Another thing that would be nice is if they allowed you to navigate with non-LTE watch connected to phone which was using offline maps. Currently this does not work. The phone needs data (LTE or wifi) in order to navigate on non-LTE watch with Maps.

I was going to suggest open street map, but it doesn't appear there is a wearOS version.
OsmAnd — Maps & GPS Offline - Apps on Google Play
Navigation on hikes is no longer a problem. Download the map, put notes and go!
play.google.com
Simple OSM Viewer - Apps on Google Play
Open street maps and OpenTOPO viewer with drag, zoom, and my location options
play.google.com
You might be able to at least make a vector PDF of a map of an area and view THAT somehow on the watch.
I don't understand how it is not possible yet to use an online or offline map on the Galaxy Watch only. Specially a GPX Reader with your current position (like GPX Viewer)
Offline
https://www.reddit.com/r/WearOS/comments/ugk8jw
There is an excellent app called "Maps" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.trackwear.maps) which has ability to download maps for offline use. You select square of area which you want to be downloaded and that's it. You can even select do themes of maps like Satellite view with street names or something else like terrain.
I am also searching for offline maps and without Phone...
Somebody tested the Pro Version with Germany?
GPS Navigation (Wear OS) - Apps on Google Play
Turn-by-turn navigation and offline maps
play.google.com
Need for Germany offline solution...
Thanx in advance.
Best Regards
