Samsung Galaxy S4 root - Galaxy S 4 General

Hello XDA,
There are 2 root mehods in this thread scroll down to check the second method...
First...
I have found the a root for the new galaxy S4. Kindly follow the instructions in order to root ur galaxy s4.
The root file utilises the system dump of the device. The root method works only on the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 running on official Android 4.2.2 XXUAMC6 Jelly Bean but not on the quad-core Snapdragon 600 variant with model number I9505.
Galaxy S4 users who wish to root their handset using the root file may follow my step-by-step guide below.
Let me remind u that I will not be held liable for any mishap, therefore, proceed at your own risk.
Pre-requisites
1) Download and install USB Driver for Samsung Galaxy S4 on the computer.
2) Verify that USB Debugging Mode is enabled which will allow to connect the phone with the computer and use the Android SDK with it. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option and ensure the USB Debugging Mode is turned on.]
3) Create a backup of all data of the phone.
4) The battery of the device should have above 80 per cent charge.
5) The root method works only on the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 running on Android 4.2.2 XXUAMC6 Jelly Bean; applying this root to incorrect variants will brick the device.
Steps to root Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 on Android 4.2.2 XXUAMC6 Jelly Bean
1) Download I9500XXUAMC6 pre-rooted firmware for Samsung Galaxy S4 to the computer and extract the zip file
2) Download Odin v1.85 which will help to root the Jelly Bean firmware
3) Turn off the Galaxy S4 and enter Download Mode. Press and hold Volume Down + Home buttons together and then press the Power button until the construction Android robot and a triangle are seen. Press the Power button again to enter Download Mode
4) Run Odin on the computer
5) Connect the phone to the computer using USB cable while it is in Download Mode. If the device is connected successfully, one of the ID: COM boxes will turn yellow with the COM port number. This step might take some time
6) Select the files mentioned below to install on the phone
a) Click on 'PDA' and select file with 'CODE' in its name
b) Click on 'Phone' and select file with 'MODEM' in its name
c) Click on 'CSC' and select file with 'CSC' in its name
d) Click on 'PIT' and select the .pit file
[Note: Ignore the last three steps in case such files are not found.]
7) Ensure the 'Auto Reboot' and 'F Reset Time' options are selected in Odin. Also ensure the 'Re-Partition' option is selected in case the .pit file is being used
8) Double check everything and finally click the 'Start' button in Odin. The installation process will begin and take a few minutes to complete
9) After the installation process is completed, the phone will restart automatically. Once the home screen appears on the device, unplug the USB cable
Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 is now successfully rooted on Android 4.2.2 XXUAMC6 Jelly Bean firmware. Open the app drawer in the phone and search for an app called Superuser. To ensure that the above root method is installed and working correctly, verify with the Root Checker app from Google Play Store.
If u found this guide useful/helpful kindly hit the thanks button
thank u for ur appreciation and support :good:
and please let me know if this method worked for u.. coz if it didnt i might be able to find another way to help u.

Can you give us more light about this?

I9500XXUAMC6 pre-rooted firmware u can test this firmware ? down fail! odin 1.85 odin 3.07

With the S2 Skyrocket, having "re-partition" checked in Odin assured a brick. In #7 you said to have re-partition checked. I just want to make sure that having it checked was the correct option for the GS4.

I don't think this fits in original development. This section us for works done from source/scratch like cm or kernel from source.I consider it more of just a tutorial to flash a rom on Odin than a guide to root. This fits general much IMHO.
Also the rooted rom by as i9000 is a single file rom which should always go into pda.And no repartition unless you have pit file added.(Read your point below the point (d).But still wanted to ensure it )

Only if you have a pit file file otherwise leave it unchecked. That what he is saying.

@OP Did u make this?
S4 INFO

So, has anybody actually tested this ?
We've tested this on the I9505 (literally weeks ago), and simply injecting root does not work - there is further firmware protection against gaining root privileges, it is not just a matter of injected the root files.
So unless you have some damn good evidence this actually does work ...

Firmware protection against root?! Samsung have really changed their feelings towards rooting phone. Seems a strange thing to do seeing as people like yourselves will surely undo their work and bypass it.
Hope they didn't spend too many man hours on it. Or should I say wasted.
Good luck!

Ignore the language settings, the message was in Chinese and was changed to English so all can read it
In this case root enabled adbd was stopped and no did not get root because the phone force stops.

will it work in my galaxy tab 7.0 plus p6200? my device has the WIFI option thingy, i need answers please
i want to try to root my tab later. When i accidentally brick my tab
maybe i can replace it ( my tab is still under device replacement )

In the tutorial in the link in step 2:
"2. Transfer the attached file root.zip to the EXTERNAL CARD on Galaxy Tab Plus"
do i need a memory card for that? or thus the external memory is referring to my PC? and what is backing up my CWM?
Other question
1. Just incase that i brick my tab can you give me some advice on
what to do? ( i have a few knowledge in tab when it comes to rooting ) a
link for unbricking tutorial would be nice.
2. What can i do when i root my tab? please post link too so that

Steps for Rooting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
If you already have all the requirements for rooting your Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 3G P6200, you can now move on to the rooting instructions. Below are the rooting instructions. Remember to follow them carefully. If you are not sure about this, don’t do it or you might brick your device in the process. Also, remember that we do not guarantee that these instructions will work for you. Proceed at your own risk.
Here’s how to root your Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus:
Install the latest version of Samsung Kies. Get it from here.
Download the rooting file to your PC. Get the ZIP file from here:
Connect your tablet to your PC. Copy the ZIP file to your tablet’s external SD card.
Power off your tablet.
Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding the Volume Up button along with the Power button. As soon as you see the Samsung logo on your screen, let go of the Power button but keep the Volume Up button pressed.
Once your tablet has booted in recovery mode, select the option to install update from external storage.
Locate the root.zip file in your external storage. Select the file by pressing the Power button.
The rooting process will begin. When it finishes, reboot your device.
Go to the Android Market and search for the SuperUser app. Install the app and update the SU binary.
Install the BusyBox app from the Android Market.
Your Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 3G P6200 is now rooted. You can now tweak and further customize your tablet by installing custom ROMs.
Note: I tried to Install the BusyBox app from the Android Market but it seems like it's not doing anything.

How to make volume button not activate screen

So I have a question......My husband loves his phone except for one thing, when the volumn rocker is pressed it activates the screen. So after doing some research it seems the only way to change this is to root it. True or not???? Here is the information from his about phone screen:
samsung sgh-i727
android version 4.0.3
baseband version 1727ucld2
kernal version 3.0.8
bild iml74k.ucld2
If there is a way to deactivate this without rooting that is preferable but I have been unable to find any answers to that.
Where do I start and what do I need if so? Thank you.

If, in fact you are on a leaked version of the firmware, you need to go into your apps drawer and see if the Kies app is installed. If it is, you can try to use it to update to the official release of the ICS firmware.
But before you do the above, just for giggles, look in your apps drawer and see if Superuser and Rom Manager are installed. If they are there then chances are the device is already rooted. If it is, let me know and we will work forward from there. If it is rooted you can install a kernel that does not have volume rocker wake feature to solve your problem.

OK, here are a couple of links. One is to a tutorial here on XDA that will walk you through using Odin to flash stock ICS firmware from AT&T.
But first, here is the link to download the firmware (ROM) that you will need -> http://www.hotfile.com/dl/162779401/27c699c/I727UCLF6_I727ATTLF6_ATT.zip.html. Just choose "Regular Download" from the page that shows up. I know this is a very large download and will take quite some time to download from Hotfile servers.
And here is the link to download Odin, the program that you will use to flash the stock firmware to the phone. -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=925569&d=1330549534
Download both of these packages to your computer, not your phone. And be sure you have an archive extracting program such as 7zip installed on your computer. It is free software and you can download the 32bit or 64bit version, whichever you need, from the following link. -> http://www.7-zip.org/.
Next, here is the link to the tutorial for flashing this firmware with Odin -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398
Scroll down until you find section #1 that is titled "1. HOW TO RESTORE STOCK FIRMWARES".
Follow the instructions to the letter, other than the file downloads, as those I have previously provided above in this post. I am assuming that you have already downloaded these prior to implementing the following tutorial. Once you have gone through this procedure and you have a fully functional Skyrocket, please hit the thanks button for Vincom as he is the one that took the time to work up this tutorial for anyone that may need it.
Happy flashing ..... HTR
The following is only copy/pasted from the tutorial link above. Please use the instructions from that thread only. I only posted an example below so you would know where to start in that thread.
DO NOT! CHECK "REPARTITION" IN ODIN! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
1. Download Odin 1.85
2. Download the stock TAR for your device - see section below.
3. Extract(with 7-ZIP) the contents of odin-185.zip to a folder.
4. Extract(with 7-ZIP) the contents of the stock firmware file to a folder, do not change the name of the extracted MD5 file.
5. Run Odin 1.85.exe from the folder you extracted it to.
6. Prepare Odin: Check "auto-reboot" and UNCHECK ALL OTHER OPTIONS.
7. Only Click "PDA" and select the firmware file you extracted, it will have a md5 extension.
8. How To Put your device into Download Mode: (download mode is NOT the same as recovery mode)
a. Connect the USB cable to your PC, but NOT your device.
b. Remove the battery.
c. Reinsert the battery.
d. Press and keep down both Volume Up and Volume Down keys then insert the USB cable into your device. (On Rogers phones It's just Vol Down.) DO NOT RELEASE THE VOLUME BUTTONS UNTIL INSTRUCTED
e. When You see the screen warning you about installing a rom w/a yellow triangle RELEASE the volume key(s)
f. Now press and release the volume "up" key, you should now be at the Download Mode screen w/odin recognising your phone. -See Pics Below-.
9. Click Start in Odin, it will flash the firmware, give it approx. 10mins. When its done flashing it will autoreboot the phone. Thats it, you're done.
THank you. I will try this tonight when I get home and let you know how it goes.....
Well finally got around to trying this.....phone is recognized by computer but Odin does not see it? Now what?
Leave odin for now, it seems you have at&t phone, so you should try this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749021
should be easier.

[Q] Tab2 7.0 GT-3113 wifi issue...HELP PLS

I have tab 2 7.0 GT-3113
After rooting the device I copied wpa_supplicant file to system/bin ,I tried to add ad-hoc support to connect to nokia e72
but while I was doing that I probably damaged some files in system/bin
now wifi is gone....device tries to open wifi but no response !!!
please advice what to do ((
I followed the instructions below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083182&highlight=ad+hoc
please I need help urgently
i copied wpa file to download file then navigated to system/bin
pasted wpa file ....
after i saw it didnt work i deleted it
in system/bin i opened some files with text editor etc.....
added adb shell(by mistake) then deleted...
is there a way to reload wifi files etc ???
PLEASE HELP!!!!
up !!!
So, I wanted to enable ad hoc wifi networks, and made a small series of blunders in the attempt, ultimately overwriting the original wpa_supplicant file. My GT-P3113 now won't connect to any wifi networks.
Details:
- Wifi only Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
- Model GT-P3113 UECLK7 kernel 3.0.31-523998 SEP 72#1
- Rooted cf auto root and CWM
-Currently operational, excluding wifi, which is "off" and is always "Trying to turn on."
I had attempted to use some instructions to replace the wpa_supplicant file with one that had ah hoc network support, apparently those instructions were for a different Galaxy tablet product, and the provided file didn't work with my device.
Those instructions did make a backup of my original file, but in my haste I ended up overwriting it.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

Just flash it.
You can use triangle away later to reset count, if you need or want to reset it.
There is no point to reset it unless you want to run unrooted stock (and want your tab to be sent updates) or you have a warranty (returning) issue.

Hasn't been updated since I don't do work on the Tab 2 anymore but it should work perfectly fine.
Here's my situation- I bought mobile odin, I rooted with kingroot, so I just need a dl link to a working custom recovery for gt-p3113, can anyone oblige?

Thanks @Lightracer, I spoke too soon, I'll share my process in getting what I got and provide links
Heres kingroot, let it reboot after running- https://www.dropbox.com/s/w4um8ibgvz9a00o/Kingroot5?dl=0
Download Mobile Odin Pro
Download GT-3110_TWRP_3.0.0-0.tar.md5 from link provided above, I'd is ever taken down, contact me, I'm subscribed
Go into Mobile ODIN app and navigate doyen to recovery, press it and then go to the recovery you just downloaded. It'll rebootandflash it, fun fun!!!
Now you can flash away the ever intrusive kingroot by flashing the SuperSU zip, figure it out yourself, we're big boys n girls.
Hereis SuperSU zip- https://www.dropbox.com/s/noqkobiubfnhuya/Supersu-root-gtab2.zip?dl=0

[Q] New Member of the Club, now Rooting but not flashing

Hi guys since today im a proud owner of a Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 stock 4.1.2, but now comes the question, is it possible to Root it without flashing anything?
I only need root access to install a few apps, FolderMount, Titanium, Root explorer, etc.
I own too a Galaxy S2 that I rooted by the method of "rooting without flashing unsecure kernel" is it possible to apply the same method to the Note 10.1?
THANKS for any help given.

Welcome to the club. Take a look at all the sections for the tablet and make sure you read the stickies too.
Method #2 and youl be good to go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152
I had already read that stickie and if I have correctly read, Method 2 (and the others) involves Odin and flashing something and that is what I dont want.
Isnt there a way to root without flashing?

Let me ask you this, why no flashing? As far as I know it's either Odin or flash. You need to get a custom recovery on it in order to root.
---------- Post added at 05:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:30 PM ----------
Also with the s2 the recovery and kernel are in one. This is not.
Thanks for your help and time spent helping me, but I think I will pass the root on the Note, I thought there was a more easier/safe method like that on the S2.
Thanks

No problem, but it don't get any easier than odin or recovery.

There was an Exynos exploit method but Samsung patched the security hole a few updates ago.
The method in the link that was posted does alter your flash count and that can be correct but you are the owner of the device and if you are not comfortable flashing you tablet I wouldn't.
I have flashed mine and tried a few rom's but I always ended up resetting my flash counter and going back to stock.
Folder mount works great and that was the reason I rooted in the first place but you can store your files on the ext drive and transfer them back and forth manually but I found with my fast wifi I'm better off re-downloading the data along with "Helium - App Sync and Backup" to backup and restore my data and you do not need root, only draw back is that you have to have a computer connection for backup and restore to work.
.
Yes, its just a matter of not feeling confortable, and there is also the risk of blocking the camera. (had a similar issue with 4.1.2 on S2 needed to downgrade to 4.0.4).
But it seeems to me a bit odd that to grant root access we need to flash the rom.
I don't think you read that right. You're not flashing a ROM, just a custom recovery through ODIN, then a root app. It's actually very simple. (Any simpler and I would be concerned about rogue app exploits)
Fyi: I'm also new to Samsung devices and bought my tablet this week. Rooted it this morning by following the stickies, but sticking with the stock ROM for now. I'm more than happy with the tablet so far.

There is no flashing a rom with method 2. You Odin the custom recovery then you have to flash the superuser into the system. You need superuser to get root and Odin is the easiest way.
Trust me we have all been in your shoes about being nervous, I've been doing this a long time and this method is really easy.
You can also use this method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957002
It does require ODIN but as has been stated this is the norm. You are not replacing any kernels or flashing another rom, you are just adding the root components. Using this method also leaves stock recovery intact...
If you woory about flash counter then run triangleaway after to reset the flash counter and recoveries....
I found doing this, doing a factory reset from settings then reflashing the Stock rom using Mobile ODIN pro gave me a stock standard, but rooted, rom with all statuses "Official" and 0 flash count....
A lot of work I know but then worthwhile things generally require it...
Ok, I followed the Method 2 made everything like on video, after pressing Power+Volume Up, I entered on STOCK Recovery, not the CWM,even so, I apply the .zip and I get:
MANUAL MODE
--Appling Multi-CSC....
Applied the CSC-code:LUX
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
--Install /sdcard....
Finding update package....
Opening update package....
Verifying update package.....
E:FAILED TO VERIFY WHOLE-FILE SIGNATURE
E:FAILED TO VERIFY WHOLE-FILE SIGNATURE
E:signature verification failed
I also retryed and turned off auto-reboot in Odin before starting the process but I get the same thing, now what should I do?
Its not rootable?
Ok, Its finally rooted, What I had to do,
On Odin unthick auto-reboot, When Odin finished doing its thing, dont shutdown the Tablet but press Power+Volume Up and go directly to CWM recovery and there follow the rest of instructions.
Thanks to everybody that took time to help me, thats why I love this forum.
A BIG THANK YOU.

I see that I'm probably too late now to answer the OP.
But maybe others can be interested.
I find that the easiest way to root (without odin and without installing a custom recovery) is Framaroot.
It uses some Exynos exploits, and has been also recently updated by the developer to counteract Samsung's patches.
It may work or it may not work on some devices and with some of the more recent firmware.
In any case giving it a try doesn't cost anything. It's just an app.
If it works the app can also be used to temporarily remove the root.
For me it worked with Firmware N8000XXCLL3 and I know that it works with some more recent fw too.
Furthermore it doesn't change the counter and even the Devices Status remains "Official". Well, actually the devices status may change to "Custom" after few days with the tablet on, but it returns Official after a simple reboot.

What were your options on the page right before that? What option did you select to initiate that?
Maybe try using the files from here instead:

Lollipop has finally arrived for SM-N9005, here's how you can achieve awesomeness!

Since no-body has started a thread for Lollipop on our beloved SM-N9005's, I thought I'd start one for us
Here's what you need in order to achieve awesomeness:
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9005 ONLY!)
The firmware file located here: https://mega.co.nz/#!qk12UYYB!4fg39KkeatkTtcShS4rUljWpU1rGnMC9XL3C17z8Crk
Or here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/43185/N9005XXUGBOA5_N9005VFGGBOA2_VOD.zip/ (UK Vodafone) others can be found at http://www.sammobile.com
Odin - located here:http://www.mediafire.com/download/vwuqru9m1jp9wbw/Odin3_v3.09.zip/
The Samsung drivers installed, if not they can be found here:http://androidxda.com/download-samsung-usb-drivers
1. First you need to download the firmware package, once done, extract
2. Then you need to install the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 drivers (if you have not already done so, if you have, proceed to step 3)
3. Extract Odin.
4. Open Odin using right click, run as administrator.
5. Their is a .PIT located in the firmware folder you extracted in step 1. This is for the 32GB variant ONLY! Using this on the 16GB variant will most likely result in a brick! If you have the 16GB variant, skip to step 6. If you have the 32GB variant, flashing with the .PIT is optional. If you wish to use it, click pit in Odin and locate the extracted file from step 1, and select the .PIT.
6. Click Bootloader and select the file that starts with BL.
7. Click PDA AND select the file that starts with AP.
8. Click CSC and select the file that starts with CSC.
9. Click Modem and select the file you haven't yet selected.
10. Then you need to power off your device.
11. Once done, we need download mode, to enter this you need to hold Vol Down + Home + Power at the same time. Once done you will be prompted with a screen with a load of writing about custom roms etc, press Vol Up to continue.
If you're using the .PIT (remember 32GB variant ONLY!!) On the left hand side, make sure auto reboot is checked, repartition is checked, F. Reset Time is checked and Phone Bootloader Update is checked.
Once all these details are entered correctly and you're happy to proceed, press start.
Let it do its business, it usually takes around 8-9 mins to complete. Once done you're running pure awesomeness on your device.
Please Note: I can't stress enough that the .PIT file is for the 32GB variant ONLY!!!!! if you're running the 16GB variant, DO NOT USE THE .PIT FILE!!!!!!!!
Also, I take no responsibility for bricked or damaged devices, by participating in the above, you take all responsibility for yourself and for your device. You have been warned my friends. Happy flashing!

It's not as in depth as my thread
does the room working perfectly ?
will it trip knox ?
Works like a treat mate. It won't trip knox because it's official Samsung
The Batterylife is, in my opinion, quiet amazing.
Got nearly 4 hours of screen time, with highest brightness, nearly 2 hours phone callin, more then one hour of skype, more then one hour 9gag and wlan/mobile data permanantly on.
Did anybody try the towelroot method by flashing the ND3 Kernel and reflashing back this kernel ?
what about video camera and playback of vids??Mine was freezing on startup and then rebooting

did you do full update ?
as in with the boot loader?
My BL,CP,CSC and UMS options in Odin 3.09 are shaded out and can't be selected.
Can I just add the zipped package to AP and flash that with the PIT file?
Windows 10 preview, Note 3 N9005 3UK
Does this ROM have pt-br language? Works normally in Brazil?
Official ROM or Leaked?
I can't quite figure out one thing, this ROM is an official one or a leaked one? Cause I don't see anything in sammobile for N9005
