Hello,
Related to this post :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39762775#post39762775
I have the following problem with an Xperia J:
Initial Problem:
- The mobile belongs to my cousin, she updated it with the Sony update center to the latest version (JB 4.1.2) and there: problem with the wifi when the sim.
- I got the mobile, and downgrade to the 4.0.4 version, I've tried 4 different versions:
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.18_Global
-> ST26i_11.0.A.7.5_CE
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.28_WE
-> St26i_4.0.4_11.0.A.3.28_CE3
I had always the problem with the wifi when the sim plugged.
Finally I've tried also the UNOFFICIAL CM 10, with no success
- I found a solution with the apk wifix manager witch worked with the 28 WE version of the firmware.
But I've continued to search an other solution, and I've remarked that when I flash the rom I always get the Warn: "This file is ignored : simlock.ta "
After some research I get an advice by a member of XDA to rename the file as "preset.ta", AND THERE, it works no warning ... BUT the sim is blocked (not locked) and I have always the message (invalid card).
I've tried to re-flash the firmware many times, to re-lock the bootloader (with appropriate ftf proposed in this forum ), Tried to use the sony update service .. But I have always the same problem (INVALID CARD)
I've also tried to format everything with CWM (system, card, cache) and made a sdcard partition, and NO way.
In addition:
- I can't enter to the fastboot mode, the led doesn't turn on blue no more, it works when I've started to work with, and it was important to install CM10, now I can't retry the CM installation.
- I've rooted the device, but I can't edit the build.prop (with root explorer neither with a terminal ide with vi editor, even if I do a "su" command and then "whoami", I didn't show : root).
- I've tried several sim cards, and they work with other devices (as xperia P and xperia U).
So, can any body help me with that please?!
Note : I'm in the middle east zone, some suggestions in the web talk about re-installing the official O2 rom, but I've searched this ROM with no success.

What are the build.prop permissions? Of course "Root is god", but you can set flag in kernel, that makes root follow his own rules, i.e. if you want to write to a file, it must be writable. If it isn't, you must change the permissions and then write to it.
build.prop afaik is rw-r--r-- so you must make it rw-rw-rw to write anything.
chmod go+w build.prop
or
chmod 666 build.prop
to restore:
chmod go-w build.prop
or
chmod 644
In reality with the version CE3, we have a line in the file build.prob witch lock the APN and I would to comment the line, it's not needed now, because I haven't this line in the other version.
I've tried to make a chmod but I wasn't able to do it.

It's OK for the root problem, it was a problem with the rooting procedure here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033114
in reality I had an error (can't mount /system in rw), I've reinstalled busybox and it's ok, I've tried to change some parameters in the build.prop (such : hide some language) and it works.
But still having a problem with the (INVALID CARD)
Any help?!
Thanks.
Other precision:
When I go to : *#*#7378423#*#*
Then: Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status : Bootloader unlock allowed says no
And the SIM LOCK seems to be incorrect.
I think that I've locked the bootloader somewhere, because I've unlockd the booloader 2 days ago when I've installed CM10, and everything was OK!!!
ThnkX
Other problem, in the SIM LOCK menu I have : x everywhere with the counter set to 0
After research in the web, that means that even it could not be unlocked by code!
it's strange that there's no way to fix that ...
No body has an idea about the solution for this problem?! even a payant one!
Thanks
Return to sony service
I didn't find any solution to this problem, so I've sent the device to sony service, and they didn't fix the problem yet.
The lesson of the story, you have to be very carefull when you do something (as lashing your mobile)
You have to know exactly what you do. And never to try insecure operations.

I have searched google far and wide, found a few cases of similar issues but haven't found a solution yet. Got my T-mobile g2 /DZ about 2 months ago, love the hardware and the form factor, but I cannot stand stock froyo. First of all:
Phone build/firmware (?) number is: 1.22.531.8
Release keys: cl277427
I initially tried rooting the phone with visionary r14, which gave me a temp root, then rebooted when I tried perm-root. Ever since then, the program hangs when trying to even temp root (I have tried visionary r11,12,13, and 14, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling countless times [not to mention downloading from different sources]).
After a bit of searching, decided to try rage method - again it didnt work (terminal emulator > /data/local/tmp/rage - permission denied) no matter how many times I tried it.
Tried rage method with gfree (both .02 and .04), which is where I had the most success. I managed to get s-off, but still no superuser access. The problem occurs when I enter the code /data/local/tmp/root
described in this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...Subsidy_Unlock.2C_SuperCID.2C_and_Radio_S-OFF where it tells you how to 'lock in' the root.
After entering the '/data/local/tmp/root' code, I get an error message that reads something like:
mkdir failed for /system/xbin/, File exists
cp: can't stat `/system/xbin/busybox': Not a directory
Unable to chmod /system/xbin/busybox: Not a directory
/data/local/tmp/root: /system/xbin/busybox: not found
cp: not found
cp: not found
Unable to chmod /system/bin/su: No such file or directory
I have checked, double-checked, and triple-checked that I have pushed busybox etc correctly, and they definitely write to the folder as I am not getting any error messages in CMD.
I would greatly appreciate anyone who can give me a straight answer as to what to look for (somebody said you can't have a file/folder on SD card called 'su' so I have checked that). This is driving me crazy - I bought the G2 thinking froyo would be so much better than Symbian/Motoblur, but I am really disappointed. Even Launcherpro etc are pretty lame compared to some of the custom roms out there.
Please help me!
Alternatively, seeing as I have s-off, any way to flash a rom without superuser? Sorry for the noob question
s-off and gfree ? i don't have g2 version, only desire z. but you can always flash clockwork recovery from adb fastboot. using that, you can switch to other ROM or backup the current one...

Can you give me a bit more detail? About to try and flash a pre-rooted modaco rom. Will probably have to wipe the phone so if it doesnt work I will try gfree again on the wiped phone

Still needing help on this
Hello,
as many may have noticed with the new stock ICS ROM there are some issues regarding links, e.g. WhatsApp crashes if you click on a link etc. and there is a quick fix/workaround for it (you need write access to /system however).
Investigating the crash report it became clear that the issue is related to the Htc Linkify Dispatcher which was (as I understand it) implemented by HTC to comply with some apple patent-related stuff and to strip the device of Android's original abilities regarding the handling of links (more info e.g. on [1] )
So normally the device will have a running Htclinkifydispatcher.apk and in addition a build.prop setting indicating this "feature". With the ICS ROM however the build.prop says that the feature is enabled but a quick check in /system shows that the Htclinkifydispatcher.apk is not installed, so consequently this means that apps relying on build.prop will fail when handling links (as the dispatcher is not active).
The logical solution seems to be to adapt the build.prop accordingly. After a quick search I found the necessary steps to be the following (Source: [2]):
In the /system/build.prop file search for ro.da1.enable=true and set it to ro.da1.enable=false
Add ro.da1.method=false directly under it
Reboot
I performed these steps and now am able to click on links in WhatsApp again without crashes. Maybe this will help someone else as well.
Cheers

some moderator should make this sticky.
yes this is the exact problem i encountered, in every apps except internet.. -.-
thanks!
nice guide everything ok now! :victory:
Thanks for this workaround. However I noticed that I no longer have an option called something like "Aplications associations" under Settings menu. It was just below "Applications"... Do you think is related to the modification?
I think yes...
From what I have understood reading
[1] commonsware.com / blog / 2012 / 07 / 23 / linkify-problem-patent-behavior . html
the Apple patent is that when you click on a link (or something recognised usefull data...) a popup menu appear letting you choose what to do.
HTC removes that ability and using Htclinkifydispatcher.apk with "Application Association" gives you the choice (but only one...) of what to do on a specific type of link.
Since the workaround we are talking here needs rootted phones, could be also another solution to put in /system/app the Htclinkifydispatcher.apk and leaves build.prop as it is (to stop crash on link) ?

thanks for this, it works
where can we get the correct htclinkifydisptcher.apk that will work on the stock desire s ics rom?
can you post a link please
I don't have a link but you could try to extract the apk from any HTC ICS sense 4 original rom.
Anyway, I read in an other discussion that also with this apk there are some limits and then the mod of build.prop it is the better solution.
Who's awesome? You are
Worked for me! Thanks dude!

I specifically rooted and unlocked my phone to do this as it was annoying as hell!
Thanks! :good:
You have unlocked the bootloader via HTC? If yes, after that what Guide for rooting have you used? I'm in the same situation as you are, I'm doing this only for the links. Stupid Apple patent! Also, if I un-root / re-lock the bootloader, the change remains? If I re-lock, would it show "Locked" or "Re-locked"?
Yes, unlocked via HTC-Dev. Can't remember the guide I used as I looked at a few for it to make sense to me.
In short, Unlocked boot loader, flashed ClockWorkMod recovery, then flashed super user. - You will have to find the guide that works best for you.
I have left it unlocked, but if you do re-lock it will say - Re-Locked, SECURITY WARNING. Nothing to worry about, just that HTC will know you have unlocked your device if you ever send it in for repair, not a problem for me as my phone is over a year old now.
I did notice though that if you DO re-lock the bootloader and try to edit the Build-Prop, it will always revert back to what it was before.
I had to leave it unlocked to edit it, and I haven't re-locked it.

All I did was put superuser on the SD card, then installed the superuser zip via clockworkmod recovery, worked a charm. Anything else you will have to search the forum as I just jumped through a few threads to get the best method for me.
All the answers are in the forums
Thanks man.

o-> you can click on number in SMS message and this number automatically get transfered to dialer, so you can call it, or store to your contacts
o-> moar and moar, i have tried these two, because it was quite serious bug for me
thank you. Htc evo 3d with coolsense rom here had same problem that fixed it

before you do anything, back up everything that can be backed up, such as contact, smses, APN settings and apps if possible.
after that, change the sd card with a blank one (this isn't necessary, but just to ensure that you will not erase your current sd card and the files inside it)
1. unlock the bootloader (follow the steps closely and also install all necessary files as mentioned in the instructions)
2. download necessary custom recovery (4EXT is what i recommend) and SU zip files, put in the root of the blank SD card (that is, not inside any folder, for the sake of convenience)
3. boot into recovery (can be done in several ways, easiest one is power+vol down and get to recovery from bootloader screen, but remember to turn off fastboot in settings)
4. flash the custom recovery first. Once finished, my suggestion is turn off the phone
5. boot into recovery again, it should now be the custom one
6. flash the SU zip..
7. done, you are now rooted with stock ROM
experts please feel free to add on or correct any mistakes..
sorry if I got off track a little, just want to offer some help because I'm in a good mood today..

In es file Explorer options. And remember you'll need to enable "browse as root" or something similar as well.
Hi guys
I recently purchase an MID N900 android tab with ice-cream sandwich.
It already has root access.
i didn't have read/write access so i installed remount and applied it to my external memory card.
I also installed rom toolbox lite to increase performance.
After I rebooted my device , the internal memory shows 0 and now i can't install any apps besides the terminal.
I don't know which app caused this issue but i think its remount.
I also can't access recovery mode.
I did a factory reset and it didn't help.
I don't know if this is of any help but every time i restart the device everything goes back to factory settings. It shows you the guide
when you start your device for the first time.
How can i reset the internal storage back to normal
Any help would be highly appreciated
Thanks a lot

I found a solution, hopefully this can help someone in the future
The problem was i installed busybox using an installer which causing some file discrepancies.
To fix it :
1. Install Android Terminal Emulator, this app can be installed even if storage shows full.
2. copy /system/xbin/busybox to /system/bin, if busybox is installed the code is "busybox cp /system/xbin/busybox to /system/bin"
When I did the above, all my previous apps and setting came back to normal

Hi! I have almost the same problem. I follow your instruction - i've installed emulator but i cant gain access. It says "cp cant create '/system/bin/busybox' : Permission denied.
Do you know how i can gain access over it?
ps My case is the same like yours. I tried to new rom, but after that it appeared. I cant install busybox, i can use emulator only.
Hi
Firstly I think you made a typing error, it's system/XBIN/busybox not system/bin/busybox
Secondly as soon as you open the terminal type 'su' that will give you root access, then type the command in the previous post.
I'm not an expert but I will try to help if I can.
Let me know if it works

I wrote commmand "su" and successfully gained root access. After that typed the command like you and no errors appeared. But still I don't have internal memory (cant install any apps). Any suggestions?
psEven i cant download any apps from the market...

This might be a silly question but did you restart your device after the command?

Fixing 0 bytes on internal storage on tablet
1. First Install root explorer! (Pro Much Better)
I found a solution, The problem was I rooted my tab then internal storage crashed.
To fix it :
1. Install Root explorer , this app can be installed even if storage shows full, it will directly install on your sd card or external storage .(its more easier if you download it to your pc then transfer it to your sd card
open root explorer find or copy /system/xbin/busybox then pastethis folder to /system/bin
2. Before you copy the /system/xbin/busybox to /system/bin, make sure or check the /system/bin is set to rw, if the permission of the folder is ro ( read only)set it to rw(read/write) for you to able to copy those files, it is needed to follow this steps for you to paste /system/xbin/busybox to /system/bin
When I did the above, all my previous apps and setting came back to normal.. it is important to read and analyze this steps carefully, I consumed 2 hours to solve this problem. But worth it !!

Thank you, it works for me. Now I'm out of trouble (for now )
I made a thread for Rooted AT&T 2.20 about enabling factory tethering. I found out that using this same .db file on 3.18 was not working for me. So I went back and re-edited the telephony.db that came with 3.18 and it seems to work again. I have uploaded the 3.18 version of telephony.db to enable factory hotspot sharing again. I have CleanROM 6 R2 installed and this seems to work well on it. Should work on stock rooted phones as well.
To Install
1. Extract telephony.db into the same folder as your adb.exe
2. Run these commands (they create a backup as well as push the edited database):
>adb shell
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # dd if=/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db of=/sdcard/telephony.db.bak
>adb push telephony.db /sdcard/telephony.db
>adb shell
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # dd if=/sdcard/telephony.db of=/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
[email protected]:/ # reboot
After reboot everything should work fine.
this is awesome, but you got my hopes up with the "rooted 3.18" title. you may want to move that bit to the end of the title. will definitely use this if my phone is ever unlocked again :\
Ha I got all excited too. And I may be wrong, but shouldn't this be in the development section?

I just re-downloaded it and the file is there. Try using a different unzipping program.

I tried again with windows pack and winzip... Both shows empty file.
I disabled Eset Enpoint, and I downloaded it 3 times.
However, I am using stock rom and I have the SQLite Editor. What changes did you do? Do you just have to change file 12 'broadband' to 'pta'?
Thanks

I don't remember which line exactly off the top of my head. I am reattaching the zip file see if that works if that fails then I will go in a compare the standard .db with the new one. It was a simple one line change just don't remember which line it was. Trial and error is how I found it.
Thank you

I guess you did it using SQLite editor, it works for me.
Make a backup of telephony.db
Your internet APN should be configured (Settings - Mobile data - Access Point names)
1)Open Telephony.db (flange files: data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases)
2)Select 'carriers'
3)Search second row, then select Edit field
4)Change ID field with a number non used in this db (ex: in my case the last row is "42" so I used "43") - Save
5)Repeat the 3 and 4 steps, but using row 12.
6)Search the last line (or line with your carrier internet APN)
7)Select the row and Edit Field.
8)Change the ID field to "2". - Save
9)Chose the second row, then Clone Record and change ID field to '12' - Save
Just need to change a lot of things
Row number 2 -> Edit field
1)Change name to ATT Phone
2)Type to "default"
2)Insert_by field to "internal".
3)State to "readonly"
Row number 12 -> Edit field
1)Change name to Entiltlement
2)Type to "entitle"
2)Insert_by field to "internal".
3)State to "hidden"
My phone: HTC One X AT&T 3.18 unlocked and root. Stock rom
Worked great for me with a rooted, s-off HTC First and ST (ATT) SIM. Thank you!

The AT&T ROMs are a real pain in the butt in regards to tethering and WiFi hotspot. As you are already bootloader unlocked and rooted, I would suggest just flashing any non-AT&T base ROM, and the tethering functions should work properly. Especially if you are not on AT&T, and your carrier does not limit tethering in any way (it looks like you are not located in the US?).
In my opinion, there is nothing "good" about being on the AT&T ROM. Many functions are intentionally broken or hidden, with nothing useful added. So going to a non-AT&T based ROM is "win" all around.

No offense to the OP, but I would suggest not wasting any more time with this method (its been 6 months after all). As I already mentioned in Post #11 above, just flash any custom or stock rooted ROM that is not AT&T base (Sense base - I don't follow AOSP ROMs enough to know how well WiFI hotspot works on those), and WiFi hotspot will work fine.
You are right

yes, really I flashed with T-mobile Sense 5 ROM five months ago, and its better option.
Helo,im new here.. iam exploring the whole day exploring the web in getting root my device, but then after i succesfully rooted my device. i got a lot of errors like "unfortunately , the 'certain app' stop working". And when everytime i install the ROM manager, my device suddenly reboot on it self. I decided to have a factory reset on my device to check if the error will fix. And the error was actually fixed. I installed busybox pro, on the device and tried to update the busybox, and now my device has a 0.00b internal storage. I cant install any applications anymore. While doing self investigation, i removed also my Superuser privileges, thinking it would fix the issue. I also unrooted my device again. now im stucked -.- since i read about some forums that i just need to restore the busybox to the right directory. Anyone can help me? Iam running a tablet with Softwinerevb device name- i know there is a less support about this device. Running on a stock ROM JB 4.1.1. Well cross-fingers if someone could help me here.

I can install an emulator on it, and a root explorer. Is there anyway that you can provide some commands so i can gain root access using root commands and transfer the busybox from system\xbin to system\bin??
any solution
did you find a solution to this? I have a similar problem, but on a generic tv box. I have tried flashing a multitude of roms, but have only got 1 to slightly work
Try to change default install location to SD
Use ADB and try to change default install location to SD card. By this u can install some apps. Hope this will work for you.:highfive:
Late response, but I thought I'd put the answer here since I encountered it myself on a generic AllWinder/Softwiner tablet and found the answer on TabletRepublic. (Sorry, I'm not allowed to post links yet.)
There's something about busybox that prevents it from mounting the /data partition, so you don't have any storage available and all your personal settings vanish.
The solution is to copy busybox from /system/xbin to /system/bin. If you have ADB access (I did it from Linux) or can copy a terminal emulator to the SD card and install it do this:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /system/xbin/busybox /system/bin
reboot
Or if you can download RootExplorer.apk to the SD card, you can install that and copy the file with it.
