[Q] Sense Roms/Boot img - HTC One S

Just rooted and successfully s-off'd my next step is flashing a rom, I'm reading the instructions for Team Venom's sense rom.
Step 1 says 'Flash the boot img script' I'm using a t-mobile us one s do I still flash the same boot script? Or do I need a different one???
Also what's the best way to get wifi working? I've read that you need to flash a different hboot.

You're S-Off, boot.imgs are redundant to you now. Just flash the ROM.

Help with root.

My friend has an HTC Sensation that he rooted and tried to put an ics rom on. I tried to help him as I have rooted 3 different types of phones and installed several custom roms on them. I updates the firmware and that broke the phone. I fixed by running the 1.50 ruu. Unlock with htcdev and installed cwm. Can't get s off or get roms to boot. Please advise.

Unfortunately htc.dev only unlocks part of the bootloader and you can't flash radio.img or boot.img to the device. Revolutionary will not work on htc.dev unlocked device, and roms may not boot unless official htckernel (boot.img) is used.
Solution is to run your ruu again, and start over using the thread posted above. If that fails there is a way to recover the device, I'll find a link and post it.

I tried the ruu again and it says security fail on the phone. do I need to relock the bootloader? If that doesn't work I will try the methods above. Thank you all for the help.
OK yes try to relock - its part of the guide posted above. Its a bit of a process but shown to work!

So I finally got the virtuous rom to work by using adb to flash the boot.img and that rom is working. Can't get the bootloader to lock back so I can root with revolutionary or use an ruu. Frustrated.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
OK so you have bootable rom and working recovery? Next you need to flash the 2.3.3 rom according to the instructions in the guide posted above. This will downgrade and relock bootloader, you should then be able to s-off & root.

Hmmm, annoying.
You may be able to find something else by searching, instructions specify a stock rooted 2.3.3 rom, not necessarily the actual one in the link.

If anyone has a link to any 2.3.3 rom for the sensation I would greatly appreciate it. i have been looking for hours and all of the links are on multiupload therefore no good.

Flashing ROMs and such.

So, I've unlocked bootloader and rooted my friends sensation all with s on because he was already on stock ICS but then I ran into the problem that you have to flash a certain type of firmware before a custom ROM ??? I've owned several androids and never had to do that and that seems rather weird but I flashes aokp on his phone and it workes successfully. I was wondering what other ROMs are there that are stable and good that you can just straight flash? I'd appreciate it so I can give him more options. Thanks

You do not need any firmware as you already are on the ics firmware from the OTA.
And did you s-off?

No I didn't need to do s off , there was a method since it was already on stock ICS. And its no longer on stock its on AOKP. And some roms do need firmware because I tried to flash cm9 and nightlies like 4 times every time they boot looped and other ROMs, then I re read and they all said they needed firmware flashed first. AOKP is the only one that worked.

[TOOL] Boot.IMG OnEcLick Flasher (Windows) update 1/14/13

STUCK IN A BOOTLOOP? PHONE WILL ONLY BOOT TO SPLASH SCREEN THEN NOTHING? I'll bet your one x has the newer 1.14 hboot and you didn't know you had to flash the boot.img of your rom in fastboot! This tool takes care of it for you.
Hello everyone the 2.20 firmware comes with a new hboot (1.14)as we all know. It will no longer allow you to flash the boot.img of your rom in recovery. I created this one click tool to ease that process. This is a simple tool to flash the boot.img of your choice. Currently windows only anyone on MAC feel free to make a port.
1/14/2013 There is now an app out that will do this for us. However new people here are failing to search and read so I have updated the tool to make it more user friendly and almost fullproof if directions are followed to a T.
Disclaimer: You are responsible for the actions you take with your phone. I cannot be held accountable if you mess something up.
To use:
1 Unlocked bootloader
2 Custom Recovery
3 Download boot.imgflasher.zip
4 make sure you have HTC One X Drivers installed
5 make sure HTC sync is not running in the background or system tray on pc
6 Have USB Debugging under developer options turned on
7 Have fastboot under power turned off
8 Extract the downloaded zip to the location of your choice
9 Download the rom you want to flash to your pc.
10 locate the boot.img file of your rom in its zip file
11 Place your boot.img you would like to flash in the folder you extracted above.
***DO NOT PLACE THE BOOT.IMG IN ANY SUBFOLDERS, ETC SIMPLY DROP IT INTO THE FOLDER***
10 Connect phone to the pc
11 Open the folder and click the bootimageflasher.bat file. Follow on screen directions.
12 finished
The way this is set up is to be flashed prior to flashing your custom ROM. Remember that you need to have all necessary items including ROM etc on sdcard before running this script. After you flash the boot.img you can then use recovery to flash your custom ROM of choice.
It will also work if you flash the boot.img after installing the rom. Simply flash the rom of your choice then run this tool before you reboot the phone.
Happy Flashing
Download boot.img one click flasher:

sorry this is a dumb question, i am coming from a galaxy nexus and was given this phone. this only works if you are in 2.20 and already have an unlocked bootloader correct? because mine is brand new and i love it but it would be much better with cm10. so for my case im basically screwed till 2.20 is somehow rooted correct?

Is this set up to strip the signature out of stock boot.img files that are extracted from RUU? If not, you should add a disclaimer as flashing those via DD with the headers in-tact with soft-brick your device.

yes you can, just make sure it's compatible with whatever rom you're running. You may want to ask the kernel dev in question, a lot of rom developers frown upon flashing a kernel they have nothing to do with (for obvious reasons) and will not provide support if yo have any issues.

I flashed a kernel earlier today (Beastmode v. 3.0) but it didn't work the first time. Here are the steps I took:
1. Downloaded the boot.img for Beastmode Kernel (Its found on page 166 of the thread just read the posts)
2. Rebooted into Bootloader
3. Flashed the boot.img via fastboot
4. Reboot into Recovery (TWRP)
5. Flash Beastmode zip
6. Reboot System
HOWEVER....I should note that it did not work the first time I tried it for some reason it would hang at the HTC ONE screen for a long time and never made it to the home screen. So I actually factory reset, re-flashed stock boot.img from King Cobra v 1.5 ROM then I repeated the above steps and it worked, confirmed the clock speed via Benchmark app...
Hopefully it works for ya!

agreed. but he certainly does not have to do both as Empyre posted. I also find it is probably safer for a new user (yes a noob) to deal with twrp than commands in fastboot.

PAC Rom

Hey all, I've just switched to this ATT One X and I'm looking for a little guidance. I've rooted, unlocked bootloader, and flashed TWRP. I've also downloaded PAC and GAPPs. That being said, I've read a little about flashing a Rom and a boot.img seperately which would be new to me. I didn't see anything mentioning that process on the PAC thread so I'm assuming that I just wipe data, flash Rom, wipe cache and dalvik, flash gapps and reboot? If there is something I'm missing, could anybody help? Thanks in advance!

If you are s-off you do not have to flash the boot.img seperately. If you are s-on you have to flash the boot.img with fastboot from a computer.

Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure you can flash the boot.img with fastboot before or after the rom. But flash gapps after you flash the rom. The way I used to do it(when I was s-on) was flash rom, flash gapps, then flash the boot.img from the terminal using fastboot.

flash boot.img first then rom and gapps, but definately do s-off you don't wanna end up forgetting that flashing 3.17/3.18 with s-on + supercid will brick your phone.
Nice! I'm looking into s-off as of now, but what did you mean by flashing 3.17/3.18? I'm on 3.18 and I believe I have superCID. Does that mean I should hold off on flashing until I'm s-off?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
No you can flash now. We weren't aware that you're already on the 3.18 firmware. If you weren't on that firmware you would have needed to RUU up to it in order to flash the ROM, and the warning was to get s-off before running the RUU because s-on + SuperCID + RUU = brick. So, go ahead and flash the ROM.
PS. In future, make sure you provide all relevant information (current firmware/current recovery/s-off or s-on status). This information is needed to help, and it also stops this kind of confusion.
