Right so I was using this app "clean master" from the market, but instead of cleaning useless stuff, caches etc. it wiped out my all of my sd data! wtf?? now what am I supposed to do? its 32gb class 10 micro sd so alot of my stuff was in that! especially the in-game app data which you have to download via wifi-hurts the most am literally crying :c ... dunno if this was posted before and I'm a total noob, is it possible to get my **** back ._.
Re: [Q] lost all my data! >.<
There are several apps in the playstore that claim they can recover deleted files on an SD card. I keep multiple backups so I haven't tried any of them out, but it might be worth a shot.

Main question:
I was wondering if there is a way to recover/undo the sd-ext formatting and restore it.
How it happened:
first i changed the status of many apps via link2sd, i chose create link, apparently at this point i had no damn idea how to use link2sd correctly. I then rebooted the phone, and all of those apps i did that to poofed out of existence (became generic andy icons and were unable to be opened, even link2sd) except for a few. then today i formatted the sd-ext in recovery mode and the phone basically went and got reset to the base rom i installed, cyanogenmod 7.2 rc0-lg-vm670-bobzhome-11182011. I did not CREATE LINK my IOU app or NOTES. these are the 2 apps i need back, i am having problems recovering iou, as notes had a recent auto save file.
after i wiped the sd-ext, i went into app management in the android settings menu and saw an entry for the app im trying to recover, but it was 0.00 bytes. so i went on my phone browser and downloaded the iou app. it didn't look like it was doing anything but when i came back to it an hour later it installed the iou app successfully, but with none of my data, the 0.00 entry also disappeared. Reinstalling link2sd, didn't do anything. I haven't done anything further.
I also have no market app icon to open, i had an old google play version on the sd card (Play v3_5_19.apk) but it keeps crashing, and my screen won't lock.
I'm only making a a big deal about this because the iou app was keeping track of about $400 worth of transactions between me and my girlfriend.
TL;DR: I need to restore an app's data, because i deleted the data when i wiped the sd-ext.
IOU - debt manager by S. Tubin
same ad HD drive recovery, if you didn't write some other things on SD card it might be done, use with your PC some software for recovery and and an SD reader
i tried r-studio. it couldn't see the 2nd partition. is that where sd-ext is located? or is it on the primary?
next time im going to remove the sd card and place it in a card reader instead.
Try linux recovery from disk internals
there are several app to see 2nd partition too,, like linux reader, ext2explore, etc
Main problem not solved but this other problem was: ok. ive gotten a new sd card. 16gb sandisk 4class.
partitioned it with 2048mb / 16gb. no swap file.
installed gapps: "CyanogenMod 7.1-2.x 2.3.5-7 20110828 (Google Talk with Video Chat Add-On)"
still cant get incoming calls (was a problem when i posted OP but i wasn't aware) or screenlock. and i can't shopkick anymore UNLESS i connect to the store's wi-fi (Target guest wi-fi), I am guessing this is a GPS problem? Google maps works tho.
about me not being able to get incoming calls: i can see their call in the call log after the call. my phone does not ring. i may get a vmail if they leave one. they get the vmail message immediately after 3 rings.
final edit: did a recover reset. can get calls and lock screen, now i just need to restore IOU.
here is what I have:
I recovered some files from my 4gb sd card:
Root\data\tubin.debts\database\debts (9 kb, last modified on the day I accidentally formatted my phone) This files seems to be the one that has the data. There are some other ones that say webview-XXX.
The author of the app said this:
This looks like the database file. This is where android apps store data. The apps never directly have access to this file though.
The only thing I can think of -- try replacing this file (new one) with the recovered one. Not sure this will work. Otherwise, you can try accessing in with some sqlite application on the pc.
Sorry, it's not about getting a pro version, I really can't help you on this one.

what problem will this solve?
wtf, everything was fine, i rebooted bc my screen wouldn't do portrait and now the app store is gone completely. and there is no recovery mode.
I am still extremely new to rooting and I have not yet even installed a Rom. However, my SGN10.1 wifi is now rooted. I installed Titanium Backup Pro and I saw that there was an option to backup to Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. I figured that if I wasn't using one of these cloud services for my PC related activities, that I might as well make use of it for my Android related needs.
I further assumed that I might as well make use of the cloud, rather than first taking up storage space on my SD card. So a simple question: Is this a good approach for backing up or is there a good reason why I should also be using the available space on the external SD card?
Placing them on external SD would be better (along with a cloud backup if you prefer.)
I always do it on SD card itself as it is easy and I don't have to download / upload hundreds of mbs of data to cloud. If you have a good wifi connection and a reliable server, then do it on the cloud itself.

Since originally posting my question, I have installed different roms onto my Razr Maxx, as well as my Note 10.1. I have used the ext SD card for nano backup, however with Titanium, the cloud backup isn't so bad. The only other cloud settings that I see are for Dropbox and Google Drive, so I do not see how Mega can be used.
I am not familiar with Mega, but I just did some research about it and based upon what I read, I wouldn't be in a great hurry to use it. I do have plenty of storage with Dropbox (over 50 gb), as well as the availability of other cloud storage services. Then there is always the trusty USB cable to the PC.
I suppose that as long as we can keep our external backups organized, then nowadays it probably doesn't make that much of a difference where things are just as long as they are secure, safe, and reliable. Redundancy is also a great idea. I learned that years ago working for a large banking institution. The internal audit staff walked in unannounced one day and advised me that my department was under an unannounced systems audit and that I had to immediately put my backup systems into operation, which meant retrieving offsite rotating stored disk packs and driving 50 miles to the back up site. Fortunately everything worked! So it's not enough to just backup, you have to test it every so often too.
It only seems to backup some apps if that even. Do I need to do some other settings? Happens on all 3 cloud services.
I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I just received a 64GB micro SD as a benefit from Samsung exclusive.
Now I have plenty of free space but I don't really know how to use them. Do you have any idea?
I thought at using it for Google music cache but it seems that I cannot do that without rooting. Am I right?

I'm having EXACTLY the same question but I will develop it a bit:
- should i move all apps (no huge games there) to SD card including my alternative launcher, adn if yes is there an easier way than checking each apps box in "app manager" ? will they update automatically if done so and isn't it problematic that most apps will leave a "data file" in phone memory ?
- should i move all photos, videos (took with GS4) & music to SD card, isn't it problematic that a big miniatures data file will stay in phone? If yes HOW ? impossible to understand.
- shouldn't we create a simple file structure in the sd card (apps - music - photos - videos) or is it automatic ?
Hey Guys -
I purchased a Shield about a month ago and love it! I think I have more fun experimenting with it than playing games. Unfortunatly, the Shield doesn't come with a large amount of storage built in. Fortunately, though, there is a micro sd slot (as opposed to my HTC One which doesn't have one ) I got a good deal at New Egg for a 64gb card and got it. After receiving, I inserted it then installed NextApp SDFix so that KitKat could write to it. Since doing so, it's worked very well and can tell no speed difference for apps residing on the Shield vs the SD Card.
Having a 64gb card and not much internal storage, I'm in the habit of installing apps and if above 100mb, opening settings / apps, browsing to the app, then choosing to "Move to SD Card." I've done this for all apps over 100mb and even some smaller ones. Below are the specs for my Shield followed by the issue I'm having...
My nVidia Shield Specs
- OS: Android KitKat 4.4.2
- Kernel: 3.4.10-g73896af
- Build: KOT49H.01.00.17394.0077 (latest public release)
- sdcard0 (Internal) - 11.32gb used / 1.40gb free
- sdcard1 (SD Card) - 45.28gb used / 12.96gb free
- Software Modifications
- Rooted
- Xposed Installer 2.6.1 + 3-4 modules (basically GUI mods - nothing hardcore)
My Issue
Even though I've moved all 100mb+ apps to sd card, have no media, or other files on internal storage; I don't have enough room to install large apps anymore. I have plently of room on my sd card which is where I'd move it to post install, but first must install it before I can move it. Below are full details for the issue I've found after investigating.
If there's a method to have Shield install apps directly to sd card by default, it may work. I've found solutions online - but - my fear is that trying to do this workaround may mess up any existing symlinking or other things. Details for what I'm talking about are below...
Issue Detailed
When I choose to move apps to the SD Card, I do see space around what the app takes up freed from my internal storage as I should. However, I've verified that all 100mb+ apps have been moved (30+gb worth); but my internal storage shows only 1.40gb available! I understand that moving an app probably doesn't move all of the app's files, but I'd think at least the bulk of them.
When I started to investigate the file system, I found files which should be on the SD Card which seemed to be located on the internal storage. Is this due to symlinking? Even though reported as such, I know it's not possible as the total size of these files exceeded what internal could hold. Do these actions give a false-positive for how much free space I actually do have internally?
Example: When I got the properties of root/Android/obb/ on sdcard0 (internal storage) it showed it's size to be 26.0gb. Internal storage is half that!
To investigate, I installed a couple of apps to show disk usage. I bought Disk & Storage Analyzer (root) and let it run. It was able to show space stats for internal & sd separately - but - seemed to not to be able to tell the correct place individual files were coming from.
Overall
Sorry if I got carried away with description - I'm just frustrated. If you understand how my scenario was designed to work and perhaps what my options are (if any), I'd appreciate it.
Thanks for your help and time! Ben
If I'm not mistaking, moving a super large app to SD card only moves a very little fraction of the app data. For example, it only moves %4 of GTA San Andreas, which is absolute bs. I don't know exactly why, it may be a kitkat issue. I haven't tried moving an app to SD on jb since I went to kitkat as soon as I got my shield a while back.

Thanks for the reply, but don't believe that's the case. It's seemingly moving a lot of the data as once i "move" an app, it shows free space back on the OEM storage again as free which may then be used to install other apps to this internal storage.
After additional research, I have a question which may resolve this. As mentioned above, after I received the SD card and inserted it, I installed an app which allowed KitKat to have additional rights to the card that jellybean previously had. Since then, I've found out that it seems as if with the Shield specifically, moving installed apps/games to the SD card is a native feature where this 3rd party app isn't required. The post I read this on said this still occurred using KitKat, too.
Current Question
So - could it be that this 3rd party app is causing the issues? I installed the app before attempting to move an installed game so don't know if it works. Does anyone else know?
I wouldn't mind uninstalling the 3rd party "workaround" app, but don't want to loose a bunch of data in the process.
Your thoughts? Thanks!
Hi,
My question is, whats the cause for a bootloop after it optimises apps.
Basically I was doing really well modding out my XA, until I tried adoptable storage. It was not really functional using the root essential app. Atleast not for me. So I started to use apps2sd which I found to be really good, alot better at finding the second partition, more options etc.
To cut it short, after I couldn't find what was taking up so much space,
I moved a heck of alot of apps to sd card,
removed some apps, - apps removed - chinese keyboard and a photo feature. I also added some root apps in, and removed kobo books etc :s
canned it,
reset the phone in twrp,
now it bootloops.
My immediate problem is that I can't wipe cache?
Thanks

Had to reinstall the firmware thanks to Malleliu at
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xa/help/bootloop-flashing-33-2-3-81-firmware-t3502160
I now don't have a recovery though, so I'll count myself luckier than bricked and stop modding.
At first I tried manually deleting cache in TWRP then formatting and immediately rebooting TWRP. Whether this was right, someone can scrutinize. So I think my problem was irreparably messing with system apps, which may make sense seeming as alot of apps in an xperia device seem to be linked. And when it did essentially format a non existing folder, it was still not booting.
Anyway peace out peeps, I'm going to enjoy a stock phone.
Wiping cache is useless, use file explorer in TWRP and you will see that there is near nothing in it, partition size is less than 200Mb. Only recovery logs and few things. If you really need to wipe it use fastboot command.
Adoptable Storage works very well only if you don't use mixed AS, only full. I use it with a SanDisk 128Gb class 10 SDCard.
