GT-I9020T Not taking T-Mobile SIM Cards - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I work for a second hand retailer and came across a phone we had in stock, it isn't accepting any T-Mobile SIM card we throw into it at all, just continues saying no service.
Is it possible that the previous owner flashed an AT&T radio to it? Is there another possibility?
Any ideas?
Thanks.

[Q] HELP Regarding the HD7S unlock problem

Hello, I brought a HTC HD7S unlocked version from Amazon. When I first got the phone, I put a AT&T prepaid sim card into the phone, it works well. However, because I need to modify the Live ID, I reset the phone to the factory setting. And then, bad things happened. When I put a AT&T prepaid sim card, it said, the SIM card is missing or invalid. When I put another AT&T prepaid sim card, it still did not work. However, when I put a AT&T family plan card into my phone, it works well. So what`s the problem and how can I use a AT&T prepaid sim instead of the family plan sim card ??
Best wishes for everyone
Help anyone who knows the answer . Thank you so much

[Q] Overseas Phone Questions (ATT)

Hi all,
In July I am studying abroad in Australia for about 5 months and am wondering what to do for phone service. I currently am on ATT and have an HTC Inspire 4G. What was recommended by the school is going through Global Gossip and purchasing a phone+credit. However, I also see that the website has an option to just purchase a sim card. Would it be better to unlock my phone and use the sim card or to just buy one of there phones? Also, should I rather be looking into activating the international services through ATT itself? Perhaps there are better alternative options to the ones I have outlined above? Sorry, I have never had to deal with this situation before.
Thanks!

Backup and restore to different phone?

Hey All,
I have an 8GB 8X and have ordered a 16GB because I need more space. Anyone know of a way I can backup my original and restore to the new? Is that even possible? TIA.
UPDATE: I was hoping I could restore from my old phone by signing into the store but that was not the case. Maybe I did something wrong... Anyway, I installed almost everything manually. The new phone is one from Bell Canada. It has the same radio as ATT so I can still take advantage of the LTE but now I can't get to the ATT branded apps. Any ideas?

The carrier branding is determined by the 1st SIM card inserted into the phone upon a factory reset. You might want to try putting an AT&T SIM card and reseting your phone. I do not know if this will work an factory branded devices, but for "unbranded" devices, that's how it works.

Unfortunately not. I did get my text message history back from the backup feature in settings but I had to set everythign back up as new. It's actually unbranded but it came from Bell Canada. The only branding it has is that in the about us it has their contact details like phone and website. The other downside is that I got the portico update on my ATT phone last week but I'm still waiting for this one. If I'm correct, it has to come through from Bell? Cheers.

[Q] N5 Goes International

Hello all,
I have a N5 that is on AT&T. I am about to take it to London. I would like to put a Vodafone sim in the phone once I get to London. Do I still need AT&T to unlock the phone to do this, or is it by default already unlocked. I am just a bit confused on the terminology. as I was on Verizon previously and had to call them to "unlock" the phone.
Thanks,
Steve
No, the phone is completely unlocked. You just need to pop in the SIM and you're good to go

Pixel 3 somehow got carrier locked to Verizon?

Hi all, so my brother bought a new Pixel 3 directly from Google online awhile back. When he bought it, he chose Verizon as the carrier instead of 'unlocked'. The phone came with a Verizon SIM card in it, but since he was using an iPhone on Verizon already that he was migrating from, he just took the active SIM card out of the iPhone and put it into the Pixel. It worked flawlessly, but now he just moved to the UK and wants to use a UK carrier while he's there. He bought a couple of different SIM cards from networks like EE and O2 but when swapping his Verizon SIM card with one of the UK SIM cards Android shows a notification that the SIM card "isn't supported" and to ask Verizon to unlock the phone.
After spending hours on the phone with Verizon, they're swearing that the phone isn't locked by them when looking at the IMEI and SIM card number. Google also is saying that the Pixel doesn't come locked to any carrier even if you choose a specific carrier when buying it. Choosing a carrier just means that the phone will come with a SIM card pre-installed for the chosen carrier.
Now my brother is stuck at a point where his phone thinks it's carrier locked, Verizon says it isn't, and Google says they don't lock phones to carriers and to talk to Verizon. Anyone ever had this happen to them or have any suggestions?
He needs to put the Verizon SIM for a little while and it will unlock. It's part of some anti theft thing they are doing. He is going to have to ship to the states so you can turn it in.

Has he tried to use the esim with the UK carrier? I dont know if they have esim's or not but it might be worth a try.
