You could always flash back to stock to receive an OTA jelly bean update. You'll never have to though because you'll have a more stable jelly bean rom before the OTA is released. I'm on a rock solid jelly bean rom as we speak called paranoid android. Take the plunge! You'll be so happy just make sure you unlock your bootloader and get the bootloader app here not the market! I bricked my device and brought it back to life because I thought my bootloader was unlocked! It wasn't! Take care

You can update if you root. Receiving the OTA will make you loose root.
You can always root then install an app called OTA root keeper. With this app you can root and unroot with one click. You actually could keep root after receiving an OTA but not when your going from ICS to Jelly bean

There are several jelly bean roms. What are you looking for? Do you like Samsung options touchwiz brings or do you like AOSP roms like cyanogenmod?

I like samsung platform i ran cm 7 cm 9 they where al right but i always went back to miui though .but so far im real happy with the way the galaxy is set up.the real thing i miss is wifi tethering but reading seems like every one is complaining that wifi is unstable.and what does unlocking bootloader actually do .couldint unlock my DX . I see you have to root and then unlock bootloader.i was realfamilier with the DX didnt care if it got bricked i could always fix it but kind of scared of bricking this phone seems like the whole process of moding phone is different

I rooted my phone. After the update I lost root, but no worries I wanted to try Isis anyway, (live in SLC). Have the secure sim but the Isis software keeps saying It wont work with rooted phones and that my phone won't work. I re-rooted and then followed the Un-root procedure but it still doesn't work. Did a full reset and still nothing.
Does anyone know how to get this phone back to the out of the box software?
Thanks
I believe u will have to use rsd lite and flash ur stock software
And with the new update.. if u have root Isis will detect it and not work

If you want to use the update, I would just manually flash it, not download it OTA (of course, you wouldn't be using the custom ROM any more after doing that).
I am trying to root a droid razr maxx hd and have downgraded to ICS 4.0.4. can anyone please help. I Cannot download the OTA update O.7.2.en.US (6mb) after using droid utility to downgrade to 4.0.4. I need this update before i can run the root utility and it just stalls. will not download via 4g or internet with a full battery.

Having the exact same issue... others are as well. Been looking around for a flashable file, but no luck.

Thinking more and more that this is a Verizon issue. I have received it for the last 24hrs when trying to pull the JB update. Was able to pull the 6mb update just fine Sunday. Hearing the same from others, regardless of where they are in the downgrade -> root -> update process.

Have you tried contacting Verizon about the issue? I went the Moto route this morning, which was a complete waste of time.
Would it be possible to simply keep this stock rooted ics rom on stock rom slot of safe strap and then download jellybean roms and put them on the others?
Maybe no need to even take this ota updates that aren't working.

Haven't done that yet...figured I would wait a day or two and see if it was resolved.

I tried this. It got me absolutely nowhere. My roommate went through this process Sunday with no problem, but for some reason as of Monday updating is not working
used RSD lite and flashed the latest JB. but obviously lost root.
Nice to be back on JB... but was hoping id keep root. Verizon needs to get their stuff together. unless someone else has a diferent method.
Did you have to have the 0.7.2 update to do that?

Same issue
I have been having the same issue. Bought a new Razr HD and have been trying to complete the downgrade/root/upgrade process since monday. Nothing I have tried has worked as far as downloading the 6mb update file, rooted or unrooted, WiFi or 4G. I have searched the internet high and low for this file, but no one seems to have it???
I also used RSDLite to flash back to 4.1.1 I did this from ICS via Razr HD Utility without the 6mb update no problems, but obviously lost root.
I hope this issue is resolved soon, because I'd really like to be on JB rooted.
Edit: I had to edit the 4.1.1 XML file removing lines containing "getvar" for it to flash. Full instructions can be had here on xda.
I am going to have to do that too. Thanks for the help. I'll search for the xml edit, not sure how to do that.

It's pretty simple. Heres how I did it.
Download VZW_XT926_4.1.1_9.8.1Q_39_VQW_CFC.xml.zip from droid-developers
Extract the file to your desktop (or wherever), find the .XML file in the folder and open it with notepad, or your editor of choice. IIRC there were two lines with "getvar" in it, just remove both of those lines completely and then save the file. Now boot into Fastboot, open RSDLite and connect your phone. Now load the XML file that you just edited and flash back to JB. Hope this helps.
If I do manage to find the 0.7.2 update file, I will certainly share but no luck so far.
Thanks again! I can't wait to get off work to do this. I'll let you know how it goes

ok, sorry, i dont get it... cannot figure out how to put the xml into rsd lite and load it.
Found the update...6mb... on another forum. Flashable in recovery. See droidrzr.com

I was downgrading from JB to ICS in order to root, but once I rooted ICS, I couldn't download the 0.7.2 System version update.
Now I go Settings>About Phone> System updates and an error message pops up says "An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete." But it has been saying that for hours and I don't see it downloading anywhere.
I can't update to JB with out the 0.7.2 System version update from 0.6.25 System Version...
Anybody seen this before?

Known issue. You will have to downgrade to ICS root and then flash the two updates in recovery, the otas won't download for whatever reason.

How do you flash the two zips? Do you create a new rom slot in safestrap?
