Is USB Charging THIS Slow!?

Just got an HTC One X (+). (Assume charging issues will be same as One X.) I used it only for a couple hours after getting it yesterday then it charged overnight via USB. Ran it down to 55% today, then plugged it into USB. An hour later it is like 65%. Holy crap, that's slow. Problem is, I like to charge my phone on my desk next to my computer while I work so I see any calls/info that comes in and can transfer files. Looks like I'll have to get an extra long mini-USB cable to plug the charger into the outlet underneath the desk when I need a quicker charge during the day. But then if I want to transfer files I need to change cables. What a pain.
It may be some background tasks running as for about 20 minutes I was playing with the phone and using a website with heavy flash and could feel the phone get hot. Actually saw the battery percentage tick down 1% while plugged into USB! This CPU can eat battery like no tomorrow when you push it! However I've seen some other discussions about the USB charge being slow, but THIS slow - like probably estimate 6-8 hours slow on USB?
It's plugged into a newer Samsung Series 6 high-end notebook. I suppose even if the charge goes way down, it's going to take the better part of a day, if not the entire day to do that, so by then, I don't mind plugging it into USB overnight. Pretty surprising though. My iPhone 4 charged like 10 times faster via USB.

The usb has to be plugged in the wall because your computer gives it a lower voltage I think!

USB charging is limited to 500ma max, depending on the pc. Your computer might be supplying less. Your charger puts out 1a. It will be at least twice as fast. I charge my one x with my Asus tf300 charger which is 1.7a and it is even faster.

I suppose since the X+ has a higher capacity battery it takes even longer to charge than the X/XL.

Only 300 mah larger so it shouldnt take more than 15-20 mins longer to charge.

If you're using more juice than you're taking in, it's going to be slow, or even negative, when plugged into anything. Pretty simple equation.

Well my iPhone 4 was 1420 mah, and this One X+ is 2100 mah. So charging it USB, theoretically should take 1.5 times as long. But that is with CPU usage during charging being equal. Seems because of the "truer" multitasking, the Android platform is a bit more prone to background apps or services periodically eating up CPU which could further the charging time. I'm wondering if either using Llama (or Tasker) and/or JuiceDefender Pro (have them all, haven't got to trying them) I can set up some sort of "Charging Profile" that will essentially shutdown all but the most essential functions and apps/services. When plugged into USB on my PC, WiFi doesn't need to be turned on (unless I want to do something with the phone require a net connection while it is plugged in). Probably other tasks/setttings that can be turned off too. I'll probably just run a second cable from the AC charger to my desktop so I can easily choose. Suppose I could always use Airdroid to transfer files while plugged into A/C charger.

I ran a direct line off the 220v in the breaker box, set of jumper cables and modified my pogo pins so the jumpers can bite on them. Its pretty much awesome

Maxell air voltage qi wireless

Ive seen threads for almost all the wireless chargers except this one, so ive decided to create one to unite all the information.
Ive just ordered it on amazon for 50€.
What is your experience with it guys? Cant wait to recieve it.

I have one here and it works fine, charges my phone with no problem and temperatures never go above 36c. The only two issues I have is firstly the Nexus 4 slides around on this thing like there is a layer of Teflon between the phone and charger. I heartily recommend LEAVING the protective film that the Maxell comes with ON the charger that stops the phone slipping.
Secondly forget about using daydream with the charger, in my experience daydream uses up too much power to be useful with wireless charging. The battery charges at snail pace and the phone heats up to over 45c with daydream enabled. I like the Maxell and I like wireless charging my first choice would be the Nexus Orb if it was available, but the Maxell does a good a job as any.

Just got one of these from eBay for £42. Seems to charge fine with the N4 the S line TPC case on.
My only, albeit minor, issue with it is the bright blue LED which illuminates while charging. This is easily resolved by making sure the N4 covers it or stick a bit of dark tape on top.

I just picked a Maxell Air Voltage charger up from Ebay here in the UK, it is a very nice bit of kit I must say and works great, the only downside is that the charging range isnt too good, I was expecting at least 6mm so that I could charge it whilst it was in my flip case, it wont charge through the flip case and it wont charge through any case that is metal or has a foil liner this of course is fairly obvious.
i am sure some of the thinner plastic half cases and gel cases it will be fine, I think that the Nillkin Fashion Shape Flip Leather Case is also OK with it so I will pick one of those up with it.
I tested the effective range with UK 2 x 1p pieces stacked on top of each other which is 3.0 mm thick in total, so if your case it over 3mm thick then it wont work without taking the phone out of the case, something to think about if you are going to get this charger.
I wouldnt hang on to get the orb charger, thats a long way off IMHO, the Maxell air voltage is a great unit, is cheap and will work with other QI devices, well worth getting it.

Sounds good so far. I've ordered mine off Amazon after hesitating because of the price.. Taking ages to arrive during this holiday season. Looking forward to it.

Had mine for around 2 weeks now, works perfectly with my tpu case on.
Did originally have daydream turned on and it was a little slow but now its off it charges great.
Well worth the money. If they were a little cheaper i'd buy another!

I also have the Maxell charger of Ebay and it charges through the Nillkin hard case with no issues at all which was a deal breaker for me if it couldn't.
I agree with the comment to leave Daydream off as it seems to charge the phone better..

Cheers mate, I was a bit worried about charging through my S-Line case. I've just ordered one from play. I have a desktop stand, but sometimes the connection doesn't fit in properly.

Got my nillkin case for my n4 which is superb and can confirm the Maxwell does charge through it as the other poster mentioned so it isn't a one off, if the case was a little thicker it won't do it though so be warned

Mine is getting stuck at 89%. Then it goes in to a state of limbo where it disconnects, uses up a bit of charge, reconnects, gets back to 89% disconnects, etc etc.
Anyone else? Defective unit?
Also, has anyone else suffered severe battery life deterioration after using this? It may well just be coincidence but about 3 days after first using it my battery life has fallen off a cliff. The Android Kernal OS is suddenly showing up at over 30% usage on the stock battery data page, whereas before it was under 10%.

Working fine with mine no problems. But I find when it charges to 100% it waits until it drops to 95% before recharging again. This is fine as I understand that qi charging doesn't allow for trickle charging, so it's either full power or no power. I wouldn't say it degrades the battery life but rather it screws up the battery stats. To fix this I just plug the usb charger once a week or so.
I think the capacity reading gets messed a bit as due to the on/off charging after reaching full charge, since unlike trickle charging where the battery's voltage is kept constant, the voltage is always raising or falling. Depending on when you take your phone away with you in relation to its current charge state you might get a slightly lower capacity for that particular charge.

What im going to do to solve this is buy a electricity temporizator and set it to 3 h so it stops once those hours are done. I always charge mobile at the same hour.

Trickle charging is horrible for lithium ion/poly batteries. Unplug from AC charger as soon as you can. LiOn batteries don't like to be at full peak 4.2v for long. It's actually better that many of these Qi chargers are only charging to 89 or 95% of capacity by the wireless charges. It's better for the long life of the battery. Charge them often too. Don't let it go down to 10% or 5%. Put them on the charger when your phone is down to 50% and take them off the charger when they get to 90%. It's easy to do with a wireless charger.

I'm actually aware that constant trickle charging at full charge isn't ideal for long term health of the battery. Which is why I mentioned I only plug the wired usb charger once a week. I only plug it in for about 30 mins so the voltage stabilises as to help the phone more accurately display its charge % state better. Obviously it's all subjective as I've yet to actually perform any tests to see if it's ture or not.
On the subject of long term battery health, trickle charging on wired may not be ideal, but nor is wireless charging due to heat it produces. During wireless charging, according to my battery stats widget the phone reaches 39°C, while wired usb it never goes above 22°C (room temp. basically). The good thing about wireless charging is the heat drops back down when the battery is full and the qi charger is no longer sending any current. But when the charge drops back down to 95 % it restarts charging again, and the heat returns.
So, which is more harmful to the battery, heat or constant trickle charging? In either cases it's still a good practice to remove the phone from the charger (both wired or wireless) once it's reached full charge.

Charging slow???

Out of the blue I noticed my S3 was charging very slowly, it even was losing a charge while it was plugged in while I was using it. I figure it had something to do with my custom ROM so I reflash, still same outcome. The battery was still holding a good charge, so I figured it was something else. I then went out and bought a new charger, which came with a micro usb cord to see if that helped. Plugged in the new charger while using my old micro usb cord, still same outcome. Then used the new micro usb cord and old charger, charging went back to normal, problem solved! I would of never thought that the cord would malfunction from day to day use after such a short lifespan. Moral of the story, check your cords if you experience the same problem, it could save you some time and money!

I bought some cheap ones off Amazon. They won't charge the s3 but will my touchpad. But my s3 charger won't charge my touchpad. Stuff is weird at times.

I believe it, using my old galaxy nexus cord for my s3 charges extremely slow (like 200 mAh) for some reason. I switched to a different cord and now it's all good, I have no clue why but that's how it is.

I really think that those cheap cables don't charge nearly as fast. Especially the Stock Sammy ones. I use the thicker LG cables and they seem to charge so much fast and transfer files faster..

I just went through the same thing. The phone was charging for twelve hours and only gained 50 percent. Took forever to figure out it was the cord.

That's what my phone was doing, I'd unplug then plug it back in and would go from USB to AC, but it still charged slow. That cable, no matter what it said, would still charge slow as balls.

I had heard of "Buy Cheap, Buy Twice", but now we've got "Buy Cheap, Charge Twice"

A lot of times it's the DC power brick that makes the difference. Not all of them have the same power output. Rarely, if ever, is it the actual cord itself. USB cables use pretty thin gauge wire already and the only way you're going to get a difference from one cable to another would be if it was REALLY cheap and using an ultra-thin wire or if it was a REALLY long cable (increases in cable length equate to increased resistance to electrical transmission...)
All USB cables are 5 volts. However, there can be significant differences in the milliamp output for each DC adapter. Aside from being a computer geek and gamer who builds custom PC's, I happen to be a hotel General Manager. I just checked our catch-all box of phone chargers and found that while every charger has an output of 5v, the amperage put out varied from 350 mA to 1000 mA from one charger to the next.
This variance in output is why some chargers take so long as compared to others. I don't know what the actual Samsung charger output is, since my charger is at home, but my guess is it's between 800 and 1000 mA.

I use the stock BB charger to charge both my 9900 and GS3, the BB charges pretty normal but lately I've been having a problem with the charging time on my S3, I have to charge it everyday now, my usage isn't that heavy, it lasts me a day and a half normally. Going to start using the stock charger to see if there is a difference.

I'm using the Samsung stock charger after not having used it for a month and noticing that my battery levels have deteriorated after using my BB stock charger. The battery seems to be discharging while on the charger! I'm in for a world of pain, going to monitor it for a while. I could be stressing over nothing.

Hopefully I don't get flamed for this as I have been doing searches but so far nothing...
I got my HTC OneXL and that night I flashed Viper onto it. I don't know if it's the ROM or the phone itself, but it takes a really long time to charge. I plugged it in 2 hrs ago at 50% and I'm only now at 60%.
Battery life is hard to know length as I've had the phone a week and have been customizing and setting it up etc.
Is the charging a known issue to the phone or is it the ROM? I'm coming from the Iphone 4S and that thing charged up really fast.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

10 percent in 2 hours is slow. Typically in 2 hours I'll get about 50 percent or more.
If you have a 30 day faulty return policy I would take advantage and make sure they replace the power adapter too. Typically they would of course but I thought I'd specify just in case they wouldn't want to for whatever reason.
If you don't have a return policy available, I would try another usb power adapter for a couple hours as that would be my first guess as the culprit for this though it could also be an issue within the phone.

I had the phone given to me and it didn't come with the original cord. I'm using the cord from my Xoom so that could be it...
Sometimes I use the wall charger, sometimes my pc and sometimes the USB port in my car. Guess I'll have to try and track down the actual cord and see if that works. It'd be cool if those dots on the back had an actual charger that worked for them!

Charging from a PC is slow, and from a car is extremely slow. If the 10% in 2 hours is from car charging, it would not surprise me, and pretty normal.
MicroUSB chargers or cords from most phones will work just fine on the this device, but don't know about the Xoom. I suspect either the charge source (car, PC) or cord may be the issue here.
Also keep in mind, that after a ROM flash, the battery meter is not completely accurate. You have to do a charge cycle to full, then drain to 10-20% for the high/low "flags" to be properly set. This might be part of the issue. But I haven't seen it cause such a slow increase in readings while charging, so I don't think its your main problem.

On Charge Draining Like No Tomorow

I Have A Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 I Got It About 8 Months Ago I've Used The Samsung Official Charging "Cable" For Most Of That 8 Months but about 2 months ago the cable became loose at the Samsung cable to tablet end exposing the wires so I was careful with it and put it away and used my friends official cable then he needed it back so I went off and brought a generic cheep cable for $3.50 So all was good there but slowly I've noticed my battery going crazy like taking longer to charge "2 Days to full" and things like it discharging by 2% when I am on Google while its on charge and when its off charge playing 1 game uses almost all the battery.
so being the awesome soldier that I am I made myself a 5cm cable hoping that the long cable I was using had something to do with it but still I had the problems listed above so I did some Googleing and maybe a 2.5A charger would be helpful But its not recommended. also I sent a email to Samsung and being the "SUPER HELPFULL COMPANY THAT THEY ARE" has not responded to my emails in the past week's Also I Spoke To A live chat person thing and Being "Soo Helpful! " Said that its a hardware fault and I need to take it into a Samsung repair place and fork out $100+ Bucks to get it fixed "HELL NO AnT No BoDy GoT TiMe FoR ThAt" so I didn't go to Samsung to get it repaired so I want to know if any of you guys out there have any idea to fix this problem im having because its so hard to do anything.
Just Checking my emails while its on charge uses %4, On Google for like 5 mins Uses 2%, Playing A Game For 30Mins Uses Well Almost Flattens It, And Watching Some YouTube Takes It Down To 0% And Then Shuts Down( I Watch Lost Of Videos) All This While Its On Charge

The SGN 10.1 charging cable is a specially designed cable to deliver 2.1A 5V to the device.
Most "cheap" cable on the market can only deliver 0.5A - 1A 5V when used to charge SGN 10.1
You should find the correct cable specifically built for SGN 10.1

Thanks but how can a cable make all the difference i managed to charge off my old one its just got exposed wires and it still drains when i use it

Are you certain that the battery is actually draining that fast and not simply misreporting it in the UI?
I had a similar problem where the battery didn't seem to last but I eventually noticed that a reboot would completely change the amount of charge remaining, sometimes by as much as 20%. I cleared the battery stats and is been fine since.

Well actually when-ever I turn it off it doesent charge much and if I restart it the battery stays the same but over the last few days ive noticed something weird when its on chatge and I play a game it drops about 20-30% but when its not on charge and on battery it drops by about 5-6% could the charger be draining it? also I have a new new cable its generic (IM NOT PAYING $60 FOR A CHARGER CABLE) and there is no difference still does the weird charging thing also I tried the old cable and still does the same thing the olny thing wrong with the old cable is that the wires where exposed so I dident want to use it just incase it broke

If you don't want an OEM cable and charger you can buy a crap chinese one. But as you and many others have discovered - they suck. This is one of the biggest complaints I have always heard about Samsung.
The solution, and the only on that I have found that works 100% of the time is to buy a replacement from Samsung. Period. Nothing else works like the OEM parts because they aren't OEM parts.

The wiring on the OEM cable is somehow different than most cheap cable.
I'm experimenting by buying a 3M long "cheap" N8000 cable on eBay, may be it can help (delivery time is VERY long )

What ROM are you using?
Stock or Custom?
Rooted or not?
If you are Rooted (Stock or Custom) you can use Battery Calibration app to erase batterystats.bin to calibrate your battery percentage which are needed if you change ROM.

Well actually when-ever I turn it off it doesent charge much and if I restart it the battery stays the same but over the last few days ive noticed something weird when its on chatge and I play a game it drops about 20-30% but when its not on charge and on battery it drops by about 5-6% could the charger be draining it? also I have a new new cable its generic (IM NOT PAYING $60 FOR A CHARGER CABLE) and there is no difference still does the weird charging thing also I tried the old cable and still does the same thing the olny thing wrong with the old cable is that the wires where exposed so I dident want to use it just incase it broke

$60 just for a cable? Really? I live in the UK and I bought a whole new charger (official Samsung one, too, including a cable) for about £12 on amazon. Just go to Amazon and replace the charger, it sounds like it'll be cheaper than just the cable (probably 15-20 USD or maybe 30-35 AUD, I'm not sure what the rate is and where you live ) and if it is a charger related issue that'll be fixed too.
Just so you know, I bought the 'travel charger' (the white one) and it works perfectly. Supplies the same current and voltage, and it's a smaller unit, and cheaper! I'd just look into getting one of those.
