[MOD][GUIDE] Zelly Cream ROM Tweaks and Fixes - Android General

For the past several weeks, I've been using the new Zelly Cream ROM v2.5.2 by Gagan.u20 on my Xperia Ray. It's an awesome ROM that is very smooth and easy on the eyes. It's still in development, however, and there are a few bugs with it. I've been playing around with some tweaks that have made the whole user experience better for me. If you've had any of these issues, I hope this helps:
(I would post this to the Zelly Cream thread, but I am a NOOB. Therefore, I am not allowed to post there. Hopefully someone can link this to the thread so others can find it easier.)
Change the Settings and Phone Background image to Black
The standard ROM has a blurred version of the Xperia Z background that shows up behind Settings and the Phone application. There is also a problem that many have talked about on the Zelly Cream thread that the phone dialer pad is transparent. This fix changes the background images to Black and makes the phone dialer solid so dialer history doesn't show up behind the numbers. You need to replace two files on your phone: framework-res.apk and defaultthemes.apk. I've included two modified versions below for you to use. You'll have to look elsewhere for how to load these on the phone. I like to use THIS method for pushing framework-res.apk to the phone.
Framework-Res.apk
DefaultThemes.apk
Album Art on the AOSP Lockscreen doesn't display fully
I found that some album covers don't fill the space provided for album art on the AOSP lockscreen. The framework-res.apk mentioned above fixes this. If the album covers are low res, however, the covers look pixilated on the lockscreen. Maybe someone with more experience can help fix that problem.
The Walkman App keeps Force Closing no matter which "fix" you try
This seems to be a problem from Sony, and not related to Zelly Cream. If you check the Sony boards, this is a hot topic. My solution is to delete all apks related to the walkman app and replace them with the stock ICS music apps. They aren't as sexy looking, but they WORK!
MusicWidget.apk
Music.apk
Good luck, and enjoy!

V3 NOTES: this new update replaces most the sony program app and widget icons with htc's full squared ones, instead of sony's dainty blue accented angled ones that don't match any other app. also, more status bar images were found to update as well. the theme update also indirectly gives you a neat looking dialer and contacts, a boring mediascape, and i think a greater contrasted black/blue timescape. the leftover blue accents are only specific to most the unwanted sony apps in the first place, and probably account for some 5-10 percent remaining of odd named images requiring replacement. thats to be polish later. i need to move on to freex10 for now, among other device projects.
template notes; some 600 unique images were extracted from an htc framework. the only images touched by me in framework-res.apk were the default_wallpaper.jpgs's for resolution adjustment (i resized w/out distortion and cropped for x10 resolution) and the statusbar_background converted to a draw9 image. the conversations.apk consists of htc images and a couple cut/paste/template jobs i did.
REQUIREMENTS: download the correct theme update for the se21rom firmware specified. theme is applicable to any rom based on sony stock 2.1 firmware w/ framework-res.apk intact. (clarified by mod request)
INSTRUCTIONS; flash custom zip from xRecovery. No wipes required.
download links for xRecovery and latest firmware at end of post.
---
this is an imageset import of the htc sense framework (500+ images) for a change from the sony x10 blue interface to a htc sense grey interface.
this is only the bare framework import, which means all regular apps should have the general appearance of using a htc sense based device.
this is presently version 1, the only customization that had to be done beyond importing the images was modifying the statusbar image to work as a draw9 image for the sony.
sony's present text color scheme appears to match the htc sense setup, as opposed to the aosp text color scheme.
notes; there is little to no difference in the files between the x10i and x10a/rogers firmware. they share some 1200 binary identical files, including the framework, so compatibility for x10i vs x10a is not an issue.
i will continue to port this theme into the newest firmware and work on additional versions that will strip or modify the blue phone/contact application interface in addition to providing new themes and mods in the near future.
---
please don't fill this thread with personal feedback. hit the "thank you" button if you like it, otherwise pm any personal feedback you have about the theme. i'd rather responses were limited to technical feedback or screenshots of anomolies to correct.
back up your phone. if my themes and mods break your phone, i don't have the time to help you. they work for my phone.

works for .435?
@paolo599 I can make an update zip w the 435 framework, yes. I'll check to see if thats necessary and post an answer or recovery update today for that, and maybe the 016 today. Thanks.

good job...
just make it clear in the title itself that this is for 2.1 Stock SE ROMs
@doomlord, i've updated my original post and title per your requests as my present list of flashable zips fit the request.
i however didn't wish to limit the scope of folks viewing my theme as i am willing to import themes (mine or any other) into any rom for the x10 at the moment upon request.
..any requests?
@paol0599; 435 update available; for se21 based roms; not aosp/cm.
great work bud. thanks
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
can you add the htc sense message notification icon aswell please. its the only thing missing
@paolo599, is there a chance you could post a screenshot of that?
most standard statusbar notifications are stat*.png images, but i don't see the one you're speaking of. that could be in the messaging apk itself, which i can add in a few days as a fuller v2 theme, w/ the v1 being a "lite" framework release only.
screenshot, please. i recommend "ShootMe" from the marketplace, or "ddms" from the android sdk "tools" folder for screenshots.
thanks.
Nm. I found them in the conversations.apk. Will correct shortly.

try n port it on (2.2) FreeX10-beta4, (2.3) CM7RC2, actually for 2.3 (CM7 based roms) try n make a theme which is compatible with t-mobile theme chooser... so it will be easier for users to apply it on CM7
@doomlord, thats a tall order.
i have freex10 next on the rom list for import, w/ more hoops to jump thru, as that will require recompiling resource values, and not just a simple png/xmlmod push.
i do have on my list to upload the image template i use for se21roms. i was going to wait until i doublechecked and wrote an xml for metamorph to use to give another easy option for installation before getting on recompiling aosp/cm rom frameworks or learning unfamiliar theme installers. but they're on the list!
great job, amazing, but i´m looking for the Sense launcher, with the half circle and the thre shortcuts.
@g00x, if you want a true representation of the sense launcher you should look at launcher pro w a sense dock image or helauncher, which has internal docks for sense as well as gb.
I have done sense dock customizations before. What i can do for the se launcher is reskin it to look like the sense dock, but w the buttons functioning as they presently do; left and right buttons will scroll screen and center will open applauncher, w the existing launcher dots and apphome icon nicely overlaid in the sense dock button areas.

g00x,
Maybe the best for you is Lp Sense,
Search here on xda "launcher pro sense mod" and you'll got it)
Sorry, i cant post a link cause i dont have 8 post yet.

Looks great! Anyway, any new features in v2 to look out for?
Thank you so much. this is awesome. I got so tired of looking at blue blue blue on my screen. Are you going to mod the dialer, messaging, etc too? I would suggest to keep it the same as HTC sense colours since it looks awesome.
^^^ agreed

No Clock Patch Added To First Post
25/08/2011
After wrestling about 6 hours with my crappy laptop to get everything together ive managed to make the no clock patch. This should work on all deodexed V10 based roms.
hi
thx for your work =)
this is the first alternative theme
can you make all the silver/grey icons blue? that would be nice
i flash it nevertheless
damn nice!!!!
is there any way we can get rid of the clock and get an all black taskbar background?? that'll be the bomb!
tapatalk'd in 3d with my optimus
@Joker thanks but ive not really got time to make colour variations but i might make something blue next.
@gewuerzwiesel1977 im currently updating it to a black taskbar and changing some popup things should be up soon.

Hi this is my first thread and my first theme. Just something ive made in my spare time and i would like to ask your advice on how and what i should change.I have pretty much no experience at theming, just copy and past really but ive made this from a mashup of other themes and using bits from the UOT kitchen. Most of the graphics have been changed to a grey but some things i dont know how to do, thats why i have put a beta status on it.
Known things/bugs i would like to change are:
-System settings colour (currently blue)
-Change inbuilt apps colour (working on some already)
-Change charging colour on lockscreen (currently green)
-Improve notification and app icons
-Make a flashable zip
Downloads are dropboxed at the moment cause my computer is being awkward.

This theme is working on firmware V10D(stock) and WaterBear 1.0, i havnt tested on anything else.

1 Down 2 To Go
Well Guiding Light is now running the Newest Build Of Whyzor's CyanogenMod 7, I'll rebuild the other two in the next few days, if anybody wants me to add some stuff to the build let me know.
That's a nice theme! Do you mind if I port it? I'll give credit. Don't worry I am not a kanger. I give credit where due.
Isn't it your theme already ? Aren't you the xkape that made this theme ? Sorry about the thanks section I updated it to give proper credit where it's due. It's not my work I just ported it to the triumph. If this is the xkape that made this theme I have some question's for you.
Thank You
ROM works great. Good Job! Thank You
Glad you like it, it's from the Droid bionic I ported it & added some things. I'm fine tuning it for a true 100% theme like the notification bar power Widget icons & the on screen camera settings, & a bunch of other stuff. I'm share it with everybody when it's done.
I'm really looking forward to the modifications. I did notice a Problem with the "Stock Camera Software" in this ROM. After opening the camera, there are no adjustment icons available on the screen and if you try to take a snapshot, I get a Force close. ICS Camera and other "Non Core" Cameras seem to work fine though. I used rom toolbox to tweak your status bar icons
Thanks Again... Keep up the great work!

Added the Evil Eye Wallpaper ( there is additional wallpapers available )
Added the Beautiful Clock/weather Widget on homescreen

I made this for anyone who uses most of the same apps and stuff and dont care for the stupid side/dockbar and who don't know or dont want to hassle going thru all the crap to get the rom customized to the point where its actualy user friendly. You can now make FULL use of all your desktop space, you can add extra desktops and with all the most popular apps already installed you still have some memory free to install more.
Enjoy ....
Nice
One question, isn't SuperUser Elite a payed app?
no idea really. i just loaded from my backup apps folder, i hope not...
ext4 partition support?
Hi,
How can i use my ext4 partition on your rom which has formatted a partition program by windows based.
PS. i have never used this EXT4 partition..
i have tried CM and SuperOSR but,
internal seeing always 150mb in total.
If someone describe me using ext4 partitions step by step, i will be greateful
Sounds like you have partition issues, You are asking in the wrong section. This is a rom release, not a partition repair thread.
its good bro but not impressed, u just add few more apps to Rom n release it with very less internal memory..if u really would like to do with this ROM then configure front camera n release it or do some necessary changes for better experience..these application r easily available in market..everybody can add more application & release it with SuperOSR version 3 or 4...please don't copy someone's effort...
ROM is Already gud in itself...
O please, firstly i have taken no credit, neither did i say i changed anything on the rom. Secondly all roms are based on other roms, so everyone is taking stuff from everyone else. PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU POST.
Thirdly, this release is a UI customisation change, not a new rom release. the current superos has a UI that I don't like, all the icons are badly sitting awkwardly on the right hand side, the left column of the screen cant even be used. the dockbar is wasting valueble space and with such a small screen, very few people can click the dock buttons properly. the problem is that they didnt design the rom specificly for just the chacha but for more than one device and as such never took the time to sit with a single device and fix the little things, and If they dont want to fix the UI then why shouldnt i ?
Fourthly, you are right, i didn't have to add the apps, but these are apps most people will use and load anyway so why not just add them into the rom ?

That's why it's called open source.
Btw, munishjoshi, most ROMs are based on AOSP, which is Android Open Source Project, that has about 2000 people around the world working/have worked/will work on it and you don't see any credits to any of them.

my intention was not to steal thunder from anyone. Its just so bloody annoying that everytime i flash superos i must keep fixing the UI and reload all these apps and there must be others out there that feel the same way, this is reason i posted this. if no one has any use for it ill remove it and let everyone be happy...
I am already working on a release of a stripped down Stock Sense rom. and on that rom i am actualy editing the rom itself, not just the UI. Altho it will be a while before its done.
hey don't take it otherwise bro...i just would like to say that do something new...waiting for your further updates...
Apart from the UI there is nothing else to do on this rom. the rom is perfect as it is. just the UI needed adjustment.
Wait for my new rom if you want to see major changes ...

Thirdly, this release is a UI customisation change, not a new rom release. the current superos has a really ****ty UI, all the icons are badly sitting awkwardly on the right hand side, the left column of the screen cant even be used. the dockbar is wasting valueble space and with such a small screen, very few people can click the dock buttons properly. the problem is that they didnt design the rom specificly for just the chacha but for more than one device and as such never took the time to sit with a single device and fix the little things, and If they dont want to fix the UI then why shouldnt i ?
Fourthly, you are right, i didn't have to add the apps, but these are apps most people will use and load anyway so why not just add them into the rom ?
Fifthly, go Frakk off and go troll somewhere else

Your language and tone are unneeded, but your message is fine. I edit your posts so you can see how to get your point accross without cursing. Please look.
Can we all try to get along?
Let's have this battle end here and now, and move on.
Thank you all.
Ok boss...thanks
Keep on the good work.. nice to see more people are devolping and customizing for the chacha..
does this rom fix wifi issues and front camera?
nope. i did not make any fixes to the rom itself, i just customized the UI to be more user friendly and edited some cache settings and stuff.

True, SuperOSR wasn't designed especifically for the Chacha. We focused our effort on making it work. What is a great thing of OpenSource is that people can help and join to the effort. In that case, if you fixed the UI as you say you did, do not hesitate to send your modification so they can benefit everyone.
Now, if by fixing the UI you mean you replaced Launcher with ADW, then IMHO you didn't "fix" it.
Changes made to the rom :
Changed UI to ADW Launcher ( the default launcher was crap, and also only allowed you to use only 3 rows of the deskspace for icons )
Removed Dockbar, screen is small enough and dockbar space is wasted.
Limited the screens to 2, can add more via the ADW Launcher settings.

[FIX][CM7] Layout fixes [UPDATE - 13/6/2013]

Use theese fixes with the latest ODEXED CM7 by macellusbe (alpha 9 for now). Otherwise things could get weird.
NOTE 1: I'm not responsible if anything happens to your phone. (as always)
NOTE 2: I won't release deodexed version of theese fixes because this should be fix for original CM7 ROM by marcellusbe, and that one is odexed. If you want to use it on deodexed roms, check the source below and build deodexed version for yourself. Thanks for understanding.
=> Source
=> All in one update.zip with all fixes included
Lockscreen layout fixes
This fix should correct:
- In alpha 9 there is still some problem with custom app slider overlap in lockscreens and with pattern lockscreen to be again wrong. This updated fix should get rid of that.
=> Update.zip
Correct CM7's default music player layout - big thanks to sad96 for providing how-to for it below!
Based on album cover size change how-to provided by sad96, I did some layout changes to the album art and the text below it to be bigger and have some padding between artist/album/song name. Just like in official CM7.
Updated - Based on alpha 9's Music player.
=> Update.zip
Phone.apk layout fix
This fix should correct:
- in-call screen - caller picture should be in the right place with the right dimensions.
- some other things in Phone.apk maybe... all dimensions in this app should be correct now.
=> Update.zip
Already merged fixes to the CM7 port are below
Bootanimation size fix - No bootanimation artifacts
- This bootanimation is modified for the size of 240x400px - so it wont have the "screen blinks white" issue.
Download links removed, already fixed/merged in ALPHA 9.

Properly-sized CM7's default keyboard
- This keyboard has some dimensions changes to be smaller and so fit the screen better.
Download links removed, already fixed/merged in ALPHA 9.

Settings.apk's "Device settings" layout properly-aligned
Just a little fix that fixes small icon next to "Device settings" option in the Settings.apk and gets rid of left-align that is caused by missing icon in drawable-ldpi and using the mdpi one.
Thanks to sad96 for reporting this issue!
Download links removed, already fixed/merged in ALPHA 9.

Hey! I saw some my work here... But credits goes to pranjal18 Both things were made by me(you can find it in KISADWORX ROM 7.1.7) and pranjal18 asked me to use them in his rom using files from my rom... I'm not greedy but it's not cheer me up making any work for G3
Hello, I will delete your work mentioned here, sorry for that.
Anyway, I am asking you now for permission to take proprietary files which fixes the layout of album cover of the music app -.can I take files which makes the album cover bigger (fit all the screen before seekbar) and make separate music.apk which includes only that (not the folder view)? Because Im trying to make layouts as close to official CM7 as possible, and this IS at the screenshots of officialy published CM7.
Once again I apologize.

I noticed some changes between LDPI/MDPI/HDPI resolutions of CM7 - not only the size, etc.. but mainly the layout is all misaligned in some parts of the system itself (keyboard, status bar, MUSIC PLAYER,). So, I'm doing this to make better the layout in some areas where it needs (compared to stock AOSP) some changes in layout to look better. Because somewhere it could look really ugly - especially with our phone - LDPI resolution. Theese bad layouts aren't in future versions of Android running on our phone (ICS, JB).
That's what I'm trying to do

I will do total makeover of my thread to make it more user-friendly (this could cause download links could be broken for a while...) and then I will try your how-to and add Music.apk with your layout (now of course I will mention your name ). After that I will finally try to fix the annoying overlap issue of custom app starter in the homescreen and add a few more screenshots.
ETA: I don't know!
EDIT: I did makeover of my thread now. Well, its not big change, but links should work without any issues.
EDIT2: @sad96: Based on your how-to I realized that changing album art size isn't enough for reaching CM7's original layout. So I took some hdpi DIPs and played a little with Music.apk layout-mdpi-finger and layout-land-mdpi-finger. Result? Original CM7 layout! That's how it should be. Thanks for giving me starting instructions by your how-to
Can you make a quick update zip with the original CM7 framework. Your framework gave me a bootloop. :/

Alpha 8.3 doesn't have the blur effect.
I don't have ADB so i guess i'll have to reflash but thanks very much for taking the time to upload the original files.

About the look... If you look at the screenshots of official CM7 running on eg. SGS, SGSII, Nexus S you will find exact same layout in the music player as in this fix. And my goal is to reach official layout of all this.

Yes, but its now based on a8.3 APKs, so its better to run it on that alpha. Otherwise, it could be messy somewhere sometimes
And also its the most updated one now

Only the proper icons marcellusbe included in 8.3. The rest (text, usb mount storage app layout, blur effect - well, that can or not be merged, not important , etc...) - All this has still in a8.3 the old weird layout. Maybe the rest (or part of it) will be merged in next release.
