I was thinking of getting one as a night stand like charger for my bed side table as I cant get a Orb.
I know its not wireless charging but i its the next best thing.
I have one and it works a treat.

Hey all, lurked here a lot lately with all the Froyo news, relative newcomer to posting here though.
I've got both the Google desktop dock and the Google car dock, but I hate how the Nexus One can fall out of the desktop dock just by bumping it lightly, or breathing on it, or looking at it cross-eyed, etc.
I'm thinking about ordering a second car dock to use a desktop dock, but curious whether plugging the base into a PC will draw enough current to charge the Nexus One or not. I know the car charger draws 2A for a quick charge, but I didn't think a typical USB cable could draw that much amperage from a PC. I'd guess that since the regular Nexus One wall charger only draws 1A, that a typical USB plug would suffice to at least act as a wall charger throughout the day...
Anyone out there doing this? Anyone got any advice either way? Or know of a rotating desktop dock that can fit a Nexus One that leaves the bottom exposed to plug in a micro USB cable?

im not sure of what the effects would be..... but i do recall reading somewhere in the literature that came with my car dock warning against plugging the dock into the computer. pretty sure it was an issue with syncing or some crap like that. will it actually hurt it, i wouldn't think so. just making it known that it was warned against and that you might wanna double check the paperwork before you tried it. if i was to do as you suggested, id find another wall adapter. i would think that the one from the desktop dock you purchased would likely work.
or you could keep your current dock and simply find some weight to glue to the bottom of it or something. i'm sure something fairly easy could be done to make it heavier/more stable.

I've used wall warts from other devices to power my car dock in the house. As long as they have a mini-usb port to fit the dock you should be fine.

No, the third pin that connects to the phone sends some sort of signal that tells the phone which dock you're using. I love my car dock, just when it's not powered. I can charge the phone later, with a charger that wont make my phone red hot.
I have thought about using the car dock at my desk, just because I can use my phone and not lose the charging connection. And yes, I have used the 5v wall wart from the desktop dock and it powers the car dock just fine, and imagine that, it doesn't over heat either.
I am not using my 12v adapter that came with the car dock ever again. just plugged directly into the phone made the thing super hot after a few minutes. sorry to get off topic.
I believe that you should be able to use something like docklauncher to switch the behavior associated with each dock. No personal experience to back up this belief though
anyone try the N1 cardock indoors using wall charger or know if it possible? wondering if i could use a N1 cardock indoors since i now have a spare cardock. i have the desktop dock both on my nightstand and on my office desk. i had to get a replacement cardock because i broke it. now i have a spare cardock that could be used to attach to a vertical surface on my desk at work so i could rotate the phone landscape to watch video (i know...i should be working ). for those wanting to tell me to try it...i ask if the power supply from wall charger or usb cable are compatible with the cardock?
update: works with usb to pc/mac. yet to check wall charger though.

I had a similar idea 2 weeks ago, to use the car dock indoors. But I couldn't get it to power my n1 via ac adapter. I thought out was because the car dock required the 2amps that the cigarette adapter gives.
But if you got yours to work from pc, that's only .5amps.
I'll have to try again.

yes...a macbook actually. it charged too and the bluetooth synced and speaker worked fine. so you could not get it to work with the ac wall charger?
hey guys, Its been driving me nut to find a right charger for my lg g2x from wind. I bought the phone used and it only came with a crappy usb car charger that doesnt have the right voltage. when i plug it in it goes crazy on the touch screen and stuff.
I already know it the charger and i had use my old blackberry charger on it and it work ok. but the thing is the amp on the BlackBerry charger is lower then the stock charger.
I need help finding a 4.8v 1a wall charger.
I already try ebay and got a cheap charger that is 5.1v and 700mah but it doesnt work it does the same thing where the screen goes nut.
I have an extended battery with charger but i would like to have a really ac wall charger as well. if anyone out there know where i can find the orginal or something that works just as good an doesnt do that funny touch screen crazinesss then I am all ears.

it makes no sense that a 5.1V charger would not work, i use my computer to charge most of the time and it is 5.05V on the USB. i think that you just got a bad cheap charger.

After my disastrous experience with Seidio I'm thinking to order the Otterbox Defender and the ProClip car mount (designed specifically for the Defender case) I'm thinking about is available with or without a built in male mini USB for charging. I already have an Incipio Quick Charge 2.0 12v car charger the 12v accessory outlet USB plugin which I could use with the USB end of the ProClip cable.
Trying to think this through I'm wondering if anybody sees a distinct advantage or disadvantage to having the built in mini USB on the phone cradle.
For the way I normally use my phone in the car I don't usually run the battery down to the point charging is necessary although I do charge it. My vehicle's 12v accessory outlet is located on the passenger side of my console low to the floor (terrible location) so I can't unplug the charger while driving unless I was at a stoplight or pulled over. With the built in mini USB the only way to disconnect it is either take the phone out of the cradle which I wouldn't do while driving or disconnect the USB/12v accessory plug (or pull the USB cable out of the plug).
My inclination is to go with a cradle without a mini USB however if someone posts a benefit I haven't thought of to having the mini USB it also makes the aluminum CraigsDock carmount which is only available with a mini USB charging plug a possibility and I like that mount too.

It seems like you have it mostly covered. However, you stated that you don't really use your battery much while driving-- So i'm just wondering why you would go through all the hassle of trying to figure this out. for myself, personally, I plug in my car charger into the cigarette lighter, and just plug it into my phone before placing on my car mount. But that's just what I do, and is certainly not the only way it can be done. But from what it sounds like, you should be more than okay with your planned idea.

Reason I'm asking for pros/cons on the mini USD built into the phone cradle is I prefer the Craigsdock which only comes with the mini USB. The Craigsdock is milled aluminum vs. the ProClip's plastic, it's universal so I could use it on different vehicles & phones and because its adhesive mounting plate is tiny compared to the ProClip vehicle specific dash mount it would look a lot nicer in my vehicle. The Craigsdock is most likely the last car mount I'd ever have to buy.
What I wasn't sure about is if the phone is left plugged in continually when it's fully charged whether that could cause damage and according to Craig @ Craigsdock it will not.

get a wireless charger and dont look back. its awesome. i use an iblason armorbox, an itian wireless charger fixed to the car with 3m scotch outdoor double sided weatherproof tape and the samsung oem qi back. works great.

Reason I'm getting the Craigsmount dock is it will place the phone exactly where I want in my vehicle. Screen will be about 3 inches away from my dash to the right of the steering wheel (not as far away from the dash as the steering wheel is but next to it). Also the Craigsmount will have a cable that keeps the native docking app continually activated. Now all I have to do is figure out how to make the phone's native docking app automatically trigger my Car Home Ultra app and I'm good to go.

Never take off my defender when I'm outside, and now when I mount it on my windshield, I never have too.
Whats the best car charger for the vzw S5 that can charge the phone the quickest? Right now I have a Motorola charger that came with the Motorola Droid years ago and its worked well so far but I would like something thats more powerful and has the ability to charge the phone faster.
USB to lightening
Any of the standard micro USB will work (as I am sure you know). I have yet to see a lightening cable with car charger but, I use a USB port adapter for the auto plug (cigarette lighter) with a lightening cable plugged in. Works best for me and much faster than any other standard charger. Hope that helps.

I have been using this for a long time, keeps my GPS, IPHONE, bluetooth headset, and my S5 with an original cable. It has 2x 2.1A and 2x 1A ports. No complaints about it at all, had a handy LED to show its powered up when connected.

I need to post some pictures of mine, but I got a GREAT wireless charging dock. It worked better in my old car, but does ok in my new car (2014 CTS-V), except that I have to wedge some cable into the DVD slot to keep it from flopping around.
I bought a wireless charging insert for my S5 & can use stock cases unlike the Samsung wireless charging back cover. I got the insert & car dock from Aliexpress. I love the car dock, works great.
