Flashed bootchain in bootloader slot in Odin. Did it break something? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I've searched all over google and xda. There isn't any documentation on the "bootloader slot" other then "no use PDA" and some really old discussions on flashing kernals back in Odin 1.xx
Trying to root my phone I am following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
I flashed VRALEC Bootchain in the bootloader slot. The phone rebooted just fine. I rebooted back into Odin mode. I decided to double check which slot for the custom recovery because that somewhat "is" a boot loader... then found the "only use PDA slot for everything".
So... after a moment of @#$% then frantic googleing and xda searching. I don't know if I corrupted something and need to fix it before proceeding.
Please, can someone tell me if this is a problem? I will GREATLY appreciate it...

Sense the phone rebooted fine, you should be OK. Just rule of thumb to always use the PDA slot.

I did the same thing a few months back, mainly because the guide didn't specify where to place the file. I have not had any issues as a result. I now know everything gets flashed in PDA.

[Q] soft-bricked Nexus S trying to root

Hi guys,
Tried following the directions to root my Nexus S (at&t & 2.3.4) by following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...0#post19647210
I have the same problem as the poster on this page, I am stuck at the Google splash screen when booting. Someone responded to him, but I find the answer unhelpful. Can someone please help? Thanks.
Your link doesn't work.

Sorry about that... Here's the URL.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19647210#post19647210
That works for me, should work for you, but let me know if it still doesn't work...
Read my question in dev thread. Also, someone responded to you in the original thread.
To answer your question from the Dev threat, I have flashed Clockwork and the bootloader is unlocked. When you ask if I have "set up" fastboot or adb yet, I'm not sure what you mean. I'm using a Mac, not a PC, so this is a little trickier (at least in terms of me finding directions). I have adb files unzipped on my desktop that I'm using in terminal... Basically, I followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878446
I then tried to use the MoDaCo Superboot method as explained in the thread, which is how I got to the problem i'm at now. I'm following the advice of the poster who replied to the original thread as we speak... I'll let you know how it goes. His advice is basically to just flash a custom rom since I already have custom recovery and an unlocked bootloader. Although I tried flashing one of the ICS ROMs and ran into an error trying to flash it. I'll update this shorlty with results of another ROM.

If like you said you have the exact same problem as the other poster and you also see the android and triangle then you don't have a custom recovery installed. You would have to have gotten fastboot setup to flash the custom recovery.
Sorry, I may have been misinformed when I said that I had the "exact same problem." I'm having a similar one, but I have the custom recovery installed. I just posted on the original thread, located here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19648719#post19648719
It might be easier if we all worked/posted on that thread, also in case someone else Google's this later on and has the same problem, continuity will be helpful.
Thanks again.

[Q] Problems with Clockworkmod

Ok so I'm currently trying to root and such and I was able to root my tab 2, but when i went to flash a ROM, Clockworkmod was gone, and all I had was the stock recovery. I found that I needed to use heimdall but I can't really figure out how to use it so that I can get my CWM back. I'm kinda newbie when it comes to how everything works, If anyone can help me somehow it would be greatly appreciated.
Look at the CWM thread in the 7" development forum.
I don't see a CWM thread in the 7" development forum
If you flash CWM, you need to remove the file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh or /system/recovery-from-boot.p. Otherwise, on every boot, the stock kernel will reflash the recovery partition, leaving you with stock recovery.

Sorry, I was thinking about the CWM thread in, um, another Tab 2 forum.
Go to the pinned rooting topic in the XDA forum here. Then go to the second post. Then follow the Xoomdev link...
All will be revealed. There's another thread there that addresses overwriting recovery, too.
What rooting method are you using? If your following this forum method you should have Odin and drivers installed. Maybe you didn't have root to begin with? All you need to do is to re Odin and follow instructions.
Pp.
Delivered to you via microwave technology .
I followed the root method in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25503906#post25503906
I used odin when I did it but i rebooted into CWM during the process and when I went back to flash it was stock.
Also how would I remove those files so that it doesnt go back to stock? (sorry for the newbieness... this is very frustrating to me and I can usually understand this fairly well)
EDIT: Figured it out, thanks guys for the help
Had the same error as you, still can't get passed it! :/
Frustrating!
Try a different USB slot. Several folks did that and bypassed initial problems.

unroot s3

So I rooted my phone about a month ago and I'm wanting to unroot it and go back to stock. I followed the unroot post in the developers section and did everything right...or so I thought. I downloaded the stock ROM dated 12/12 and went into Odin to flash it and it freezes on the mapping step. I restarted the phone and the computer, downloaded another stock ROM from a YouTube video someone posted on here, tried another USB port. Nothing worked. My phone works fine I just want to go back to stock to get the factory update.
Why don't you just flash a rom that is K3? It's the exact same thing.
There an app called mobile Odin there some videos on YouTube about if you can't use ur computer if that helps a ill
Thanks I'll try that tonight...that mapping step is a killer for me...I had to go to the bar before I three my phone AT a brick

Umm, why are you even following that? Do you have a Verizon S3 or an international model?
For the Verizon model, returning to stock is simple, and its spelled out in a series of simple steps listed in the development Guide. I will link you to that Guide, please read Section 5 regarding retuning to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
Regarding Odin, all you will tick is "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time". Do NOT check anything else. Flash the file in the "PDA" section. Do NOT flash anything in any section other than PDA.

[Completed] Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 Bricked?

I flashed a MIUI rom which didn't work well on my phone and started to hang. All of a sudden it just shut down and nothing was there. I later used Odin 1.7 and the stock rom and 512 pit file to flash it back to stock. The process was successfully complete and it restarted the phone. However, the phone screen is completely black at the point where it is supposed to show the home screen. When I touch the haptic buttons at the bottom it lights up but that is it. Nothing happens.
I tried to go to recovery mode by pressing BOTH VOL BUTTONS and POWER BUTTON. It says Android system recovery <2e> as the title. At this point if I want to install a new custom ROM I have to select reinstall packages. I do that and it shows error in red font as follows:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
There are fixes to this error that involves connecting the phone with the PC through USB but my phone doesn't start at all as I have mentioned earlier.
Have I completely lost this phone?
Please understand that you need to flash a Custom Recovery before you can flash custom Rom. The Stock Recovery that you have will not be able to flash Custom Roms. Here's a thread that describes how you can do so. What I do wish to caution is that you should ensure the phone is working optimally before you proceed with Custom Roms. If there are no issues otherwise, then you can proceed to flash a Rom of your Choice.
Hello,
When I searched, I found the following thread: ** [GUIDE] FIX AND RESCUE YOUR VIBRICK + ODIN SUPPORT! N00b Friendly **.
The secont part could help you: "NO-BOOT PHONES".
Good luck!

Yes. I found it too. However, when I followed the procedure I stupidly checked Repartition in the Boot Cycle process. I was on this phone for five hours and it was around 4 or 5 in the morning and I was sleepy. :'( I don't know if that irreversibly took away my only chance at bringing back my phone.
I tried the same process with repartition unchecked but I guess the damage was done by then. FML.
I think at this point you're going to have to comb through the vibrant Q&A section for similar issues and see if any fixes help. The guys in that forum section know the best, hopefully there's an answer there somewhere.
The guide posted above didn't help, not sure we here can do much more.
You could post your problem there too....again, the members there know what they're doing with that particular model.

@MiniGunnR, I do not believe you have permanently bricked the device. All you need is correct partitioning of your phone to get it back. This is usually done with the help of .PIT Files that are flashed via Odin. A PIT File simply put is a file with Partition information on the Device. Here's a thread that explains what its all about. remember that thread is NOT for your Device. Its just for your information. In the thread @Hammer_Of_The_Gods had linked, you will find there are PIT files for download. Make sure they are for your exact device specifications. If in doubt, you can ask on that thread.
EDIT - If you open a new in Vibrant's Q&A Section, I am sure there'd be someone would love to help you there.
Sometimes a different version of Odin can help too. I know on my S2, I had 3 goto versions for doing different things. Maybe try that.

No WiFi when I root?

This is my first android phone, so bare with me here just made the switch from scummy apple.
I have unlocked the bootloader, it says so in the bootloader and system settings. I followed this guide, which didn't work(no wifi networks available). Then I used this here to reinstall stock rom. I then tried this method of rooting here, which I still had no wifi. Again I'm a noob, I followed all of these guides to the bone, which none of them worked for me, so I could have missed anything.
edit;
said fastboot instead of bootloader

I know I should be mad at myself but I'm just happy I "fixed" it...

Your problem is probably caused by the root procedure. There are many explanations. For me the most plausible one is the one from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/unofficialbeta-twrp-oneplus-6-t3798439.
Scroll down to the instruction: ***FOLLOW THIS STEP BY STEP. IF YOU EXPERIENCE ERRORS, BROKEN WIFI, BOOTLOOPING, SOFTBRICK, HARDBRICK YOU DID SOMETHING WRONG; START OVER*** and follow exactly each step as explained.
Finally important is that you end up booting the system from the correct slot, in most cases this is Slot B. Get sure in advance, on which slot you are before rooting. If the slot you were on, changes e.g. from B to A during the root procedure you have to go back to B and boot system from here. Otherwise booting from the wrong slot could cause issues as you described. Later on you can update twrp to the latest beta version, also described in the thread above.. If you follow the instructions carefully and correctly it will work. It´s much simpler than it sounds now. Enjoy.
edit.. useless, didn't recognized your question was already solved..
