unroot s3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So I rooted my phone about a month ago and I'm wanting to unroot it and go back to stock. I followed the unroot post in the developers section and did everything right...or so I thought. I downloaded the stock ROM dated 12/12 and went into Odin to flash it and it freezes on the mapping step. I restarted the phone and the computer, downloaded another stock ROM from a YouTube video someone posted on here, tried another USB port. Nothing worked. My phone works fine I just want to go back to stock to get the factory update.

Why don't you just flash a rom that is K3? It's the exact same thing.

There an app called mobile Odin there some videos on YouTube about if you can't use ur computer if that helps a ill

Thanks I'll try that tonight...that mapping step is a killer for me...I had to go to the bar before I three my phone AT a brick

I tried again today but im still getting stuck at the PIT mapping step. Im scared to do anything crazy so before i "try" something i read on here I wanna make sure that its something that i need to do in my case.

can i boot into recovery mode and do a data wipe and factory reset and go back to stock? I know I'd lose everything on my phone but ive already backed up everything.

Just did everything this said to do and i still cant get past the PIT mapping step...please someone help me.

Umm, why are you even following that? Do you have a Verizon S3 or an international model?
For the Verizon model, returning to stock is simple, and its spelled out in a series of simple steps listed in the development Guide. I will link you to that Guide, please read Section 5 regarding retuning to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
Regarding Odin, all you will tick is "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time". Do NOT check anything else. Flash the file in the "PDA" section. Do NOT flash anything in any section other than PDA.

[Q] Odin Without Root?

hey guys question im about to go to 2.3.4 but do i need to root or can i just odin to something else without wiping anything and it will automatically do that for me sorry for the noob question
I'm pretty sure you can Odin to something else. Read through this thread, there were people with similar questions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759
Glad to see you found the Q&A section.
No you don't need root to odin and yes odin will wipe everything so back it up.
Seems like you know how to odin so look at FB's Ext4 guide and go for it.
A lot of people here(me included) just follow guides and go through trail and error than if that doesn't work ask for help. Trust me I soft brick at least twice a week!
Good Luck
i have no problem answering your questions, but you have to stop creating new threads all over the place. no...being a "noob" is not an excuse. im not being hostile, just letting you know.
you should odin dr honks cwm kernel for GB. and make a nandroid backup just in case.

[Q] i am beyond 'newbie dot com', & so totally lost... :(

So I rooted my at&t infuse. I now owned it for just over a year, so the warranty on it is out. Here's what I'm so unsure of...
Googling til the cows came home, I thought I discovered that the official gingerbread update brought me to uclb3 2.3.6 or some such thing. I had the ulk2 or something? The unofficial leak back in Feb. Anyhow, found a way to root .6 on youtube. Followed along the whole way, pausing, rewinding, playing and pausing again. The guy on the video was using 'odin'. Finally, (long story short and after my heart started beating again), my screen said 'pass' just like his did and my phone rebooted. (thats when my heart started beating again, lol). So I was googling again, just to see what 'flashing roms' meant. I even had to look up 'rom'. All I wanted a rooted phone for was to get rid of those apps that at&t installed on my phone and I can't uninstall. Which I accomplished. But googling flashing a rom, somehow I stumbled upon another youtube video. This one was of some guy saying if you're not a rogers infuse owner, turn the video off now. So I watched. And he used 'odin'.
Did I root it right?
The only "problems" I'm having with my phone is with the wifi. When I click on fb, it says connection lost. I have to turn on data to use it. But if I click on the web icon, or play store, I can connect. Is it a root issue, or facebook update issue?
Baby steps with me now! I need the 'rosetta stone' version of your reply, haha! This is totally foreign territory for me!
Whether you are rooted or not really depends on what package you flashed with Odin.
On 2.3.6, to root you need to flash a custom kernel, such as entropy's dd kernel.
I suggest you take a look at the super iset thread stickied on the dev thread. You will find everything you need there.
also search on the q&a and general sections.. You should find many threads with detailed instructions
It may be helpful if you go back to the beginning of the Q/A section and read up on the earlier thread and work your way forward. It will familiarize you with the "lingo"
You can also start at the, "How To" thread for some basic info. That thread is pack with lots of info. You may need to read it several times to understand.

Thank you so much for taking the time - so if I understand correctly, *OFOURSE* I did it wrong. Time for a new phone! Really, as upset and lost as I am, I appreciate your reply.

Thanks for the reply, but if I read it for the next YEAR, I won't understand. All I needed, which you and the previous poster gave to me, was a straight answer - "No, you didn't do it right". I really appreciate that you took the time, and hopefully after Christmas and New Years, I'll have time to skim through!
Thanks for your time!
(is there anyway to delete this thread now?)
It's super easy. With a pc install kies...then run qkster's one click. Directions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
Then run entropys the same way. From same post.
Once you have recovery flash anything you want...
If you flash cm9, and it boots up in rainbows , start these directions over but flash qkster's oneclick twice. Second time have bootloaders checked.
Always flash cm10 only after cm9 or cm10 is on. (never cm7 to cm10)Follow instructions and ask questions in step form. Say "ok so I flashed this here, how do I flash this"
And always flash gaps after you flash your custom rom. (even just upgrades reflash gapps)
Newbie flashing
If I can add a little, you could use Odin. After you install Kies (for the drivers) look for GTG's Unbrick. Flash it. Boot it up.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
Then load that into Odin. Flash it. You can connect your phone, turn on usb, then look in my computer. You will find your phone "drives" there. Add a rom you downloaded, Boot into recovery, do a reset/dalvik/clean and install zip from sd card. Choose the new zip, and hit the power button to start the rom installation. Check out Youtube. They all basically install the same way.Hope it helps. Learn to use the unbricking stuff they have made, and thank them.

Flashed bootchain in bootloader slot in Odin. Did it break something?

I've searched all over google and xda. There isn't any documentation on the "bootloader slot" other then "no use PDA" and some really old discussions on flashing kernals back in Odin 1.xx
Trying to root my phone I am following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
I flashed VRALEC Bootchain in the bootloader slot. The phone rebooted just fine. I rebooted back into Odin mode. I decided to double check which slot for the custom recovery because that somewhat "is" a boot loader... then found the "only use PDA slot for everything".
So... after a moment of @#$% then frantic googleing and xda searching. I don't know if I corrupted something and need to fix it before proceeding.
Please, can someone tell me if this is a problem? I will GREATLY appreciate it...

Sense the phone rebooted fine, you should be OK. Just rule of thumb to always use the PDA slot.

I did the same thing a few months back, mainly because the guide didn't specify where to place the file. I have not had any issues as a result. I now know everything gets flashed in PDA.

[Completed] Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 Bricked?

I flashed a MIUI rom which didn't work well on my phone and started to hang. All of a sudden it just shut down and nothing was there. I later used Odin 1.7 and the stock rom and 512 pit file to flash it back to stock. The process was successfully complete and it restarted the phone. However, the phone screen is completely black at the point where it is supposed to show the home screen. When I touch the haptic buttons at the bottom it lights up but that is it. Nothing happens.
I tried to go to recovery mode by pressing BOTH VOL BUTTONS and POWER BUTTON. It says Android system recovery <2e> as the title. At this point if I want to install a new custom ROM I have to select reinstall packages. I do that and it shows error in red font as follows:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
There are fixes to this error that involves connecting the phone with the PC through USB but my phone doesn't start at all as I have mentioned earlier.
Have I completely lost this phone?
Please understand that you need to flash a Custom Recovery before you can flash custom Rom. The Stock Recovery that you have will not be able to flash Custom Roms. Here's a thread that describes how you can do so. What I do wish to caution is that you should ensure the phone is working optimally before you proceed with Custom Roms. If there are no issues otherwise, then you can proceed to flash a Rom of your Choice.
Hello,
When I searched, I found the following thread: ** [GUIDE] FIX AND RESCUE YOUR VIBRICK + ODIN SUPPORT! N00b Friendly **.
The secont part could help you: "NO-BOOT PHONES".
Good luck!

Yes. I found it too. However, when I followed the procedure I stupidly checked Repartition in the Boot Cycle process. I was on this phone for five hours and it was around 4 or 5 in the morning and I was sleepy. :'( I don't know if that irreversibly took away my only chance at bringing back my phone.
I tried the same process with repartition unchecked but I guess the damage was done by then. FML.
I think at this point you're going to have to comb through the vibrant Q&A section for similar issues and see if any fixes help. The guys in that forum section know the best, hopefully there's an answer there somewhere.
The guide posted above didn't help, not sure we here can do much more.
You could post your problem there too....again, the members there know what they're doing with that particular model.

@MiniGunnR, I do not believe you have permanently bricked the device. All you need is correct partitioning of your phone to get it back. This is usually done with the help of .PIT Files that are flashed via Odin. A PIT File simply put is a file with Partition information on the Device. Here's a thread that explains what its all about. remember that thread is NOT for your Device. Its just for your information. In the thread @Hammer_Of_The_Gods had linked, you will find there are PIT files for download. Make sure they are for your exact device specifications. If in doubt, you can ask on that thread.
EDIT - If you open a new in Vibrant's Q&A Section, I am sure there'd be someone would love to help you there.
Sometimes a different version of Odin can help too. I know on my S2, I had 3 goto versions for doing different things. Maybe try that.

[Completed] [Q] Having issues rooting Note 3, not sure what to do.

I am unsure if I bricked my Sprint Note 3, but I tried to roo it with Chain Fire and odin, using Qbking77's YouTube video as a guide. But after the root was complete, 60% of my apps were gone, I can't using any google powered apps, and I can't go into the phones settings. Everything force closes. Honestly, I'm just trying to do a proper root so I can use Cyanogen Mod. Can someone help me revert to before I rooted, and explain the process to get cyanogen?
Thanks.
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. This is the correct root method for your device:
[SM-N900*] CF-Auto-Root
That didn't help. I followed the instructions provided, and downloaded
SM-N900P (Sprint): CF-Auto-Root-hltespr-hltespr-smn900p.zip
Followed the further stated instructions, open odin, and I cannot insert the MD5 file into odin. I was able to before, and now I cannot. Earlier I was able to do so, and as stated above, after I did it several apps disappeared, google play services no longer works, supersu is on the phone, and I cannot access the phones settings. The only thing I can do is use the stock browser. I am asking what to do/what I did wrong/how to fix it/or how to continue. If these questions cant be answered, how do I revert back to stock?

Ok, I misread your initial post, apologies. I think your best bet would be to ask in the Sprint Note 3 q&a section here:
Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
That way the experts for your device can shine a light on how you should proceed. Try to provide as much detailed and specific information as you possibly can and I'm confident you'll have a good resolution to your problem.
