Obviously you're rooted if your changing roms. Move the files to sd or pc(renamed)

[Q] What are the files inside .android_secure?

i seem to have over 1 GB of wasted space in that folder .android_secure
any 1 got a clue if those are safe to delete?
I've never found that deleting anything on my SD card caused major problems for the phone, including .android_secure. Of course, that folder has never been 1 GB in size for me, either, so I suppose your results may vary. Really, though, all the system stuff is in the protected internal storage, so I doubt you'll do much worse than delete media files or whatever apps you've moved to the SD card, if that. I say give it a shot and see what happens. Of course, I take no responsibility for anything that does go wrong if you do. >.>
apparently those are Apps settings or something along the lines
i flashed SuperAOS and during the wiping process it showed it was deleting .android_secure
App2sd
This is where the operating system stores a portion of the apps. Anytime you install a new app and choose to install it to the SD card, it puts a large portion of the app into this folder. Deleting the contents would delete your apps.
If you move an app to the SD card via the official (2.2+) method, this is where (most of it) goes.
Hi,
I recently flashed a new ROM and had to do a full wipe including factory reset. I copied some apps to SD, and indeed I see that the .android_secure folder has a lot in it, taking up space. I installed all apps again from market on the new ROM install, and they all say they can be copied to SD again, so they don't take information from the previously installed bits on the SD card. Is it safe to delete everything in this folder?
EDIT: I have an HTC Hero, but only noticed when I posted this that this is a Samsung Nexus S thread. I'm guessing that this is not that big a deal?

sorry to revive this thread after so long, but does this folder also store the app data? In other words, for games like plants vs zombies or angry birds etc, if I copy the corresponding files over to my new phone (after installing PVZ/AB on the new phone of course), does it also copy over my progress?
(recently swapped my EVO 4G to EVO 3D and trying to figure out how to copy the game progress over - esp for PVZ)

[Q] How to check what phone is backed up on from cwm?

I use the tmo sgs2 and i have experience flashing roms. i know how to backup, flash and restore roms. its not rocket science. today i flashed the ics beta for my dad on his sprint epic 4g(sgs1). his sd card only had like 100mb free so i used my 32gb sd card with more than 15gb free so that i could download the zips needed and backup his current rom. i flashed his ics beta flawlessly without any problems at all. i backed up his og rom and everything was dandy. the problem started when i got home and decided to transfer his rom backup to my laptop's hard drive so that i wouldnt have that 1gig+ filling my sd card. when i mounted my phone storage and went into my cwm folder and into backups however i dont see any folders with today's date on it. so im not sure if its a backup from my sgs2 or my dads sgs.
My question is... is there a way that i can go into the file and maybe see which device the folder is from? like if theres a sgs2 specific SOMETHING that'll help me identify which one is which?
i tried being thorough so you guys know exactly what happened so you can help me with this.
thanks in advance
Can't you just go by the file date on the contents in the backup folders?

that was actually what i did originally to see which one it was. i also went into the folder info and none of them had today's date.
is there any possibility that it'll be on the phone's internal storage?
anyone?

Moving content to a new android phone.

Moving from s2 to the s3 and was wondering whats the procedure for moving all my stuff over to the new phone?
I know I can sync my contacts. I can also sync the apps I bought/downloaded i presume?
Regarding sd cards, the one Im using at the moment is giving me a lot of problems so I'm getting a new one for the s3. Do i have to copy over all the contents from the old card to the new one, and if I don't, what affect will that have on apps etc?
I've titanium pro so do I have to back up anything on that for instance before moving phones?
Kinda confused over what I need to move over as the s2 was my first android.
Thanks.
If using titanium to backup just insert new card into old phone backup then put new card with backups in new phone and using batch option if you have pro version move all apps and data to new phone.
Ps only move user apps. Not system it might screw things up

ok, so backup with new sd card on s2, then on the s3 just move just the user apps over?
Sounds easy enough.
Or backup everything with Titanium/myBakcup or whatever then upload it dropbox. But Google syncs your contacts and apps. And SD card - connect phone to PC and mount as disk drive then copy the WHOLE SD to your computer then when you get the new SD put the contents on it! Hope I helped
Just so I'm 100% clear on this:
1. Google will sync "all" my apps onto my new phone? So The 60+ apps will all be downloaded onto S3 once I set sync up?
What about any data associated with each app? Like game data etc? How will I get that info relocated into each app?
2. I copy the content from my current sd card onto computer and then copy it onto new sd card when I've it in the phone?
Thanks.
yeah, im a bit confused about the google-app-restoring, because i did some wipes (for custom roms) and my phone didnt restore anything (it was enabled in settings). is the unofficial android 4 the reason for that?
Can anyone else confirm that this is the best way to get data from one sd card onto another??
If u backup your apps using astro you can restore them and it will also restore the data

Ok, I'm just going to do it now as I have Astro already installed.
So I backup on my current sd card?
Then how do I get the data onto my sd card?
Also doesn't some apps only work if they are installed on the phone memory and not the external sd card? How do I go about sorting that out?
Thanks for help.

The main problem with using Google to restore your apps is that it generally screws up at some point. I usually have issues because I go ahead and get on WIFI while it's syncing because all the apps that I have would take forever on 3G. Unfortunately the switch over to WIFI does it in and at some point the sync fails and it won't try and autoload your apps beyond the first time you set up the phone.
Never tried Astro for backups so I can't say how that works, but TiBu is absolute gold when moving between phones and Roms. The only thing I like even better is using Nandroids, but that only works for certain instances and won't help in the case of switching devices.

As you said, you can backup all the data in your old device then restore to your new one! I know that Moborobo has the backup and restore feature. I used it to make the transfer. Hope it can help you!
I've rooted both my S2 and S4.
I've used Titanium to back up my S2 apps on to my Micro SD and put it in the S4.
When I run Titanium on the S4, it can't detect my backups from the S2.
Am I doing something wrong?

[Q] deleted internal memory (sdcard0)

Hi there!Yesterday I had nothing better to do than destroying my phone
Accidentally I deleted all the files from internal memory (sdcard0),not SD card (sdcard1).Faced a problem with missing obb file but I created a new one.But I realised that winamp pro can't play music (other music players do)Some other games are ForceClosing too..I tried to fix the prob by flashing ftfs but the files never came back...
Afraid that there will be problems with other apps too.I tried EaseUS,Wondershare Dr.Fone for Android and Pandora recovery, but none can see sdcard0...Is there any way to restore at its former state?
I'm embarrassed for my stupidity, and sorry for my English...

I don't get it at all. Like I create by my self the obb folder and put the game data after that and all games work perfect.
Are you sure you have make that folder right and copy files right and they're there ? It has to work as it is working for me.

After some installs and uninstalls of winamp it worked, finally:victory:
I did the same thing you did (obb file),and the games are running flawlessly.
I must admitt that when I made this thread I was in panic and I had no patience to wait and see...I was afraid that what I deleted were system files:silly:But I realised that internal memory is just like sd card. All the needeed files are creating with a fresh rom installation...
Sorry for my bad English...

[Q] Clockworkmod backups

I am just wondering if it is safe to store these on the external SD card??
If for some reason i needed to access them, would I be able to? They are currently taking up a good chunk of my internal memory. I only have one, but its taking up 483MB. I want to make a newer one as well - how do I go about doing that? Again, would it be safe to keep it on the external SD card if I needed access in the future? The old one is from when the original owner rooted the device I imagine, cant be sure, but it was definately before I had it. It was brand new other than the root/unlock which i knew about ahead of time.
Anyway, is it safe to move/create a new one and move it?
Yes, if you copy and paste, make sure to keep the exact folders and their names, along with any files in them. It is completely safe
Edit: in fact you can also do the backups directly to external sd card right from recovery.

Do you mean on the external sd card to also call the folders "clockworkmod/backup/<date>"?

Is there a way, after i move it, to see if I can see it from my external SD card within the recovery without actually using the backup/reverting back to those settings???

Ok, so ive taken the time tongiht to copy my backups from the internal to the external, using the same paths. I even included the ".nomedia" ".salted_hash" and ".settings" just in case.
I also have a copy on my desktop hard drive.
Is it now safe to delete them off of the internal storage? How can I confirm that they can still be seen from recovery - but without actually using them to recover/reset the system at this current time?
I already made another backup accidently last night. I was in custom recovery clearing out the cache, and I went into backup just wondering if thats where you go to make one (i figured it would confirm by making you scroll to yes like every other option). it started making a new backup. Luckily i had 60% battery so i was able to let it finish. So at least now i have a backup of my current system.
The problem is both backups are taking up 2 gigs of internal space now and i only have 4gigs. So, these definately need to be pitched if possible.
ETA: So after I watched a video on youtube, i did go in, and i can see both dates of backups.... but all of the files are still in both locations... how can I tell which ones CWM is seeing??
