[Tutorial](NEXUS Style)On-Screen Three Button Navigation Bar[ROOT] - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Post#1- Introduction:
This is the navigation bar which google earlier announced alongside honeycomb and came with the ics based galaxy nexus. Now this is the era of touchscreens not hardware and capacitive buttons!?come on people grow up!
Down here is a picture comparing nexus 4 to s3.
This will work on android 4.0 and above android versions and this bar takes up only 0.3 inch of the screen!
It is a three button bar-back,home and multitasking.

Afaik sak was asking for a kernel with bln sypport to port from (along with the lights.so lib from the same device ) so as to enable its support I guess. Once done in the kernel we need to download an app too to actually implement it. Correct me if I am wrong

Re: (NEXUS Style)On-Screen Three Button Navigation Bar for HTC Pico(Explorer)
It may not be all that user friendly on pico as you would be able to see 2 sets of keys but still I find it less confusing than the gestures....
Sent from my Bathroom

Just cover them with black ink and if you like nexus 4 it doesn't mean everybody does so don't force it
And I can disable the capacitive buttons btw

I am using the nexus buttons.
I changed DPI to 140 to make it look a bit normal.
I still prefer capacitive though.

why do you care where I sent it from???

This thread is now cleaned and back on track.
I have removed all posts that were Off-Topic, flaming, comparison, speculation and etc. In order to bring the thread back to where it should be I had to delete almost 40 posts... That is not cool!
This thread has what may be useful information to some so I have opted to leave it open for now. If it gets out of hand again it will be closed and deleted. Last warning!

This post is to show how you could disable the capacitive buttons on your pico and also turn off the led lights underneath the buttons if you wanna use the soft keys and prefferrably change the LCD density and it looks better on a small screen!

RE [Tutorial](NEXUS Style)On-Screen Three Button Navigation Bar[ROOT]
i really loved this until i realized i cant even quit some games coz its improperly sized.. any fix? and also will simply removing the line from build prop
get rid of this ??

Yup remove the line save build.prop and reboot...voila its gone...ill try to make a flashable zip
Sent from my HTC Desire C using xda premium

Why bother with flashable zip, just edit the tutorial with something like
1. Download 'build prop editor'
2. Make changes
3. Reboot.
It's easier

Just to make it even easier....

[Q] A cursor for the text

Hi everyone,
I'd just a lil' question for you !
I've a friend on htc desire who has a small arrow just below the text that he can move to put the text cursor where does he want. The fact is he had a cyanogen rom on it so maybe it comes from here but i dunno and neither does he.
I've found on google that it could comes from the htc keyboard but nothing really concluding.
So I just would like to know if you have heard something about an app or something which could give me this arrow.
ps: i'm definitly not looking for arrows on keyboard but something like a bigger cursor than the common one that I don't consider precise enough
I think your friend is using some copy and paste app.

[Custom][Recovery] RZRecovery for your Inspire!

Hey there everyone
There's a new recovery out for the Inspire that isn't CWM and I think you might want to give it a try. If you used to be a Droid user, you might remember this:
check it out here
It's tons faster than what clockwork mod recovery is (but can still flash your cwm backups!) and you can use your capacitive buttons at the bottom of your phone to navigate!
Plus changing the colors is a snap - built in utility for it! Only thing that doesn't work consistently is touch screen scrolling.
Go ahead and give it a try (if you're brave enough, I am not, nor is RZR liable for any damages, but you all already knew that =p). Definitely worth the shot.

[QUESTION] ICS on OLDER PHONE LIKE US

hello we all own a DS but as the following link says that even we get ICS then ,
"What'll happen on phones that do have physical
buttons, then? Will Ice Cream Sandwich work on
those types of devices?
Yep -- only instead of getting the on-screen
navigation buttons, you'll use your phone's physical
buttons in the same way you do now. The menu key
will load any contextual on-screen menus, and long-
pressing the home key will load the multitasking tool,
just like it has in past Android releases."
reference:http://blogs.computerworld.com/19133/android_ice_cream_sandwich_faq
I'd seen superkids ICS but there I see those on screen keys present.

Superkid will remove these once the whole lot is working I should assume. No need to worry! We are not running on old phones, so there is a slight possibility we will get an OTA update
i personally think htc will update the desire s to ICS since they did upgrade the ds to sense 3 and they said they won't. Also sony ericson is promising ics on every phone with a 1ghz processor released in 2011, and if they deliver htc will be under fire for not giving ics to both the desire s and incredible s. Also htc will lose the excuse of saying the hardware is too old/slow to support ics since the current list only consists of dual core phones.
I've tested Superkid Alpha ICS but it won't stop crashing! We'll get ICS but wait for it a bit longer... ^^
It crashes because of wallpaper, and i deleted the phisical bottons already, check last page in my post
I'll calm down and looking forward to have that ROM to wear on my DS. I'm sure all DS owners are looking at this thread and do a following up information how an ics goes far...
I hope to test it soon or one days
May I add one more question , Ive read somewhere that the nexus prime is capable of Portable mass storage (external harddisk) is this coz of ics or is it hardware related? If software will it mean that if we get our ics update we will also have the same thing? That would be neat!

To my understanding that's a hardware thing so even if we do get ics it wont be there as you need usb host support to be able to use portable hdd, gamepad etc.

I will wait for official release because I didn't find anything that works...

Not for nothing, but I find a lot of apps still are not following Google's suggestion to build in an action bar that includes a menu key so those wasted pixels are getting wasted as we speak anyway. Just look at the XDA app: one row *just* for the stupid menu key.

Getting the One X on Monday, but that's going to be the biggest thing I miss from my Gnex.
I love being able to program the buttons, and change them, theme them, and that they hide when watching a movie of when I use the phones auto rotate, even upside down, the buttons are easily within reach, and not across the entire screen.
To each his own I guess.

Floating Recent Apps Button for phones with hardware buttons

I have created this little app out of frustration with the hardware buttons on my Galaxy S3. I don't really mind the back, menu, or Home button implementations but I am really annoyed because of the implementation of the recent apps. On a Galaxy S3, we all know that one has to press the hardware home key for a while to open the recent apps view. This greatly hampers multitasking and, honestly, it even turned me off of the idea of multitasking using the recent apps view.
But I recently used a friend's Galaxy Nexus and found that the recent apps view was not only very convenient to switch between apps, but also very effective. And the convenience was amplified by the fact that the recent apps button was ever present on the phone's screen. So I decided to implement something similar for my phone.
I came across STANDOUT , a library made by Mark Wei (xda member pingpongboss) which perfectly suited my needs for this app and made creating this app a breeze. Thanks a lot Mark!!
So here is my app called "FLYING RECENTS". It is a floating button that does nothing but open the default recent apps view. It is draggable via the handle attached at its bottom, it is semi-transparent so as to not be too distracting, and it can be closed by clicking its notification in the notification shade. Go ahead. Give it a try. I am sure people with hardware buttons will appreciate the utility of this app once they use it. Do offer suggestions if any, and I will try to incorporate them into the app as much as i can.
Made for a Galaxy S3. Ideal use case is for phones like Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S4, etc. All phones with hardware buttons running Android 4.0+ benefit from this app.
UPDATE: Version 1.01 includes a better looking drag handle. Thanks to pratyush997 for the suggestion!!
UPDATE: Version 1.02 includes a transparent notification bar icon.

Very very nice, been looking for a while for something like this.
I have a suggestion Don't u think it would be more practical and less obstructive if it was more like a gesture based launcher (like swipepad, sidebarpro).
We set it up that once u swipe from the home button upwards the screen, it will launch the recent apps. I've tried many apps but none were perfect for that simple task.
Thx for the nice app, would be appreciated if u can consider my suggestion.

Trust me it was my original aim to make this app just like that (i.e. dragging the button itself) but I cannot for the life of me make it draggable. That is why I had to include the handle. Feel free to suggest any coding workarounds if you can. It would greatly benefit me.
Useful app! May I suggest the addition of floating 'back', Home', 'menu' buttons as well?
