[Q] Cell Standby after flashing Android Revolution HD 5.1 - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
I am fairly new to this whole rooting/flashing business as I only got my first Android device a week ago but I succesfully flashed Android Revolution HD 5.1 on my NT8013. It's running fine, but one thing bugs me: After the ROM was flashed, a little circle with a diagonal line appeared in my notification bar. I found this to be related to missing mobile network reception. Since it was eating up battery, I enabled flight mode, so I now have the airplane symbol instead of this circle. However, I still find a "cell standby" process that is using (moderate amounts of) battery power. As my tablet doesn't have 3G capabilities anyways I was wondering whether there is a way to permanently disable this?
Thanks in advance for any help!

You need to flash the compatibility pack. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37225836&postcount=4

Thanks for the answer, this removed the phone app and the cirlce with the diagonal line. However, I still find "Cell Standby" as a process eating 3% of my battery life. Any ideas on how to get rid of this?

As I said: I did flash the compatibility pack, and it got rid of the phone app as well as the sign in the status bar that indicated no reception, but if I check my battery stats, the cell standby process is still shown to eat between 5 and 8% of my battery.

I'd very much like to keep using this ROM, as it's close to the stock ROM, but if you can suggest a not-too-adventurous ROM as an alternative, I'd be happy to check it out

[Q] Is updating to Gingerbread worth it?

"Hey there im brand new to this forum and android in general i just switched from an iphone to the Lg G2x. I have to say the G2x is incredible but my battery life isn't i get on average 5 to 6 hrs of battery life (lose about 20% every hour) as others i have installed juice defender ultimate, setcpu, and watchdog. In addition to all these apps i uninstalled apps like T-mobile app pack and wifi calling because these apparently use up a lot of battery. So my question is if there any tips you guys can give me or setting for my phone or apps because maybe i have everything i need installed but with the wrong settings any help at all would be great thank you in advance
Info that might help:
As of now the juice defender app reports: 1.36x improvement"
That was me a few weeks ago and after all of the suggestions many of the users gave me i only saw maybe like a 20 to 30 minutes improvement of battery life which is not to great because im only getting 6hrs moderate usage out of my Lg G2x so my question is should i install the update because according to lg its supposed to fix my battery issue because from the looks of things ive tried everything i can (Factory restores. removing bloatware, turning off unnecessary things like bluetooth, gps, etc)
Id appreciate any advice or feedback from those who have updated to see if they can confirm they have better battery life in addition it might be helpful to know phone is rooted and unlocked
I admit I didn't read through your entire post, but I recommend updating to gingerbread, then flashing either weapon or eagle blood rom, and then flashing one of the themes by myself and kingdavid. You won't regret it.
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.
what changes will i get if i get those roms?
I recommend it! You'll get an updated baseband, which fixes GPS and Signal issues.

Battery life is a bit better on gingerbread. If you're trying to get good battery life, I'd recommend flashing CM7, and using SetCPU profiles.

wont stay rooted. Need to flash a rom through cwm. camera is same as nexus gets, its stock camera
Batttery is amazing. Im heavy on the rom changing, had this phone two weeks from my Sensation and it still is stock with the screen animation, but no super user. stock doesnt have tv lock
Oh, im at 30% right now, from mainly stand by and heavy use since 6 pm. its 11:20 pm
@matistight wow thats a amazing battery life thats what im looking for and well thats what i wanted to avoid because im new to android phones so i dont know how to root them is it a big hassle because if it isn't ill go ahead and update and btw if i do update what should i do in preparation before the update?
also what did you mean by " stock doesnt have tv lock "
Just updated my phone to gingernread looks nice but im no longer rooted and dying to get rid of all that bloatware can someone help me root it?
How did you update to GB? I heard there were issues with LG/Tmobile update causing a brick?
I used the LG updater tool and had no issues at all. I used it with Windows 7.
And I definitely think its worth the update if only for the updated baseband. I get more consistent signal and much faster GPS locks now.
i was able to do it through the lg support tool without any trouble took about 8 mins

Use the nvflash tool from the dev section to flash cwm back to your phone and then flash whatever rom you want. If you want straight up rooted stock there's one in the dev section you can flash.

Not sure what the file itself is called but its the one from the OP in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Stock recovery won't allow you to flash custom roms. Flash clockworkmod recovery. Choose the internal option if you want clockworkmod to read files/roms and save backups to your internal memory. Choose the external option if you want it to use your external/removable sdcard. I personally use the external version. Its really up to your preference.
@Mister Hat Than you!!!
@phburks
btw the reason why i updated was in hopes of getting better battery life because im getting the same battery life i did before the updated (while rooted and getting rid of bloatware) ) but im wondering that maybe still having t-mobiles bloatware is not letting me experience the improvments but when i called lg recently they said that the update should have fixed my problem with battery life so im also thinking maybe its not the os but some other issue on the phone or the battery itself so do you think i should just send lg my phone so they can check it now so i dont have to unroot it and more later ? (however i didnt purchase it a lg retailer i bought on craigslist is that a problem? )

Nexus S 4G Roms?

Hi, I've searched the forums a bit and every thread I saw relating to this topic was a bit outdated so I've decided to create a new one.
I recently got the Nexus S 4G and rooted it, I've been using Slim ICS and it seems to give me issues and the battery life is horrid. I'm wondering if some people can give me their opinions on the Roms/Kernels and set ups that have yielded the best performance and battery life. I don't use my phone for much but music, surfing the internet (very seldom) and texting/making calls.
Thank you everyone in advance.
I'm finding bugless beast to pretty damn good atm

I have had stability and battery issues with most ICS but AOKP and Matr1x are doing amazingly well on my device. Not one complaint since the switch.

Thank you guys for the input, I will check those out when I get off of work. Anyone else have any suggestions? I'll probably spend the next few days flashing and testing them out.
Codename Android coupled with air kernel is extremely stable and quick as any other ROM and battery life is good. Also it has a good amount of launcher and status bar customization.
If your looking for speed though, Apex is undoubtedly the quickest in terms of windows opening and closing.
I'll check out Codename as well. As for kernels and things like that, what is the best governor and kernel, or is that all dependent upon which ROM I'm using?
In terms of speed, stability and battery life; I'd rather have stability and battery life over speed if that makes any different. All 3 would be lovely but I'm more concerned with stability and battery life. If the phone won't stay on or stay charged it won't matter how fast it is.

Kernels do their own thing as far I know. I usually use noop with smartassv2 or wheatley. And as I mentioned before air kernel is REALLY nice and stable.
I've been using the predecessor of Apex because of 1.0.2 issues on my phone and its really quick just like apex because its basically the same and it doesn't really sacrifice battery life at all either. I would give it a go. Its bigxie 3.5 on his "all crespo4g builds" link in the original post

Hi,
I use the SLIM ICS Rom and Im getting awesome battery life....
Hmmm did you change anything on it?
Are you turning off the internet, wifi, gps and sync when not used?
Did you clear battery stats? This is normally best when you flash any ROM.
Or maybe a widget or app is doing the draining.
I would recommend reflashing it with the March 4th update just to make sure.
Good luck
SLIM ROM has great idle, and you can always use the battery saver mode... with this you can have the ROM turn off syn, wifi and data all by itself when screen is off... check it out

Wow, I'm a moron. I remembered seeing the Power Saver and always thought I had checked yes, I hadn't just the individual settings. I've now updated to 2.8 ICS Slim and I'm going to see how that goes.
Wondering if anyone else has had this issue after root, I have the voicemail icon (which I hate) but when I click it, it dials *86 and I get a wrong code message. What exactly can I do for one to check my voicemail and second get rid of that annoying icon?
Thank you everyone for the input.

Just make sure u tell the power saver mode what to do under the settings... the default may not be what u want....
RU using Google voice? If so the only reason u would change *86 to ur phone # would be to call sprint VM.... if ur using GV then it will automatically download to ur phone without using minutes to call regular voicemail
I was at 1st against GV but now it comes in quit handy like the original sprint VM ...
Go under GV settings and have the notifications set how u want them. U may have to go desktop version of GV to customize all the settings... just to make sure.

4.0.4 heavy battery drain

Hi,
Has anyone else had problems with the battery draining with the new 4.0.4 ? My GF Nexus S was still on 2.3.6 so I got the factory version of 4.0.4 and installed it. I obviously wiped the data/cache/etc. Also I rooted it with the latest superuser.
I'm running the latest nighly of CM9 and everything is perfect, so I thought it was time to give her the sweetness of ICS.
So with all that useless information, has anyone found a fix for the battery drain in 4.0.4?
Thank you,
WarpedMonkeys
Since I installed 4.0.4 my battery lasts up to 20 hours, no problem at all.
I'd suggest manual full wipe with fresh 4.0.3 stock rom and then manual ota update to 4.0.4.
I'm also using matr1x kernel, it's just awesome
Hope it helps

Stock rom is ok, but updating with ota from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 may lead to bad battery behaviour. Someone says that battery stats wipe could lead to better battery performances, but I think fresh install could do the trick

Official factory fastboot images, must be flashed using fastboot on an unlocked bootloader. Contains recovery, radio, and bootloader.
THESE IMAGES MUST BE FLASHED USING BOOTLOADER VERSION I9020XXKA3
I can't really be more fresh than this. I'll try messing around with her settings, but if it doesn't get better, I'll just flash her the latest CM9 nightly
Check your battery usage, if Android OS is using more than 8-9% after some regular usage, then that's the cause.

A full battery cycle could do the trick. Don't let it die, anyway, because it can cause battery wear... Just take it to 10% and recharge it nighttime... You may also wipe battery data before, if you wish...

Heavy battery drain ??? i don't have any issues with it, infact i have not touched my phone for 1 day 6 hours and 25 minutes and my battery dropped from 95% to 82%. My phone was fully charged (didn't go higher then 95%). I am very impressed by the results.
I changed 2 settings:

2. Turn screen off after 30 seconds.

Hello,
my Nexus S was updated automatically to version 4.0.4. I will tell you. My problem is with data. Now I can not open any WWW page in default viewer,Opera sometimes opens some pages but quite rare. I can not get any email in K9 Mail. Update of Google maps took several hours, unfinished, eaten all my battery! Sometimes I am without signal or with bad signal.
It is for sure problem with 4.0.4 because I have unlimited data. So, no FUP in this case.
I was satisfied with 2.3.6. How can I do downgrade without rooting etc. my phone ?

The problem here is not the app, its not the rom or the device. The problem here is simply that using data drains the battery, speciall when on 3G. Battery drain is just one of those things we have to deal with when we have smart phones. They do more than ordinary dumb phones. Using the 3G radio will greatly decrease the charge because its constantly negotiating for signal and shunting data back and forth. If you want to decrease the drain, chat less, switch to 2G only, send less pics/vids/birthday cards from random website that looks cute.

It's a bit strange, my battery drained a lot for the last few days after upgrading Whatsapp to the new version 2.9.4207. my battery drains faster than before, if i could have 1 day with 3G on, it is now only up to 3 hours maximum..
i hope it is not app that causes the problem since i relied on it too much to communicate with frenz..

I also have been experiencing increased battery drain in the past few days. The only recent change I have made is installing Whatsapp.
The problem here is not that the app is not well written, but the fact that the app uses data. Any application that uses data constantly will drain your battery, a hot phone usually indicates 3G use, 3G radios tend to get hot when they are used for extended periods. The same thing happens to a USB 3G Modem. The only way to prevent your battery going flat so quick, would be to stop using the device. There is an application somewhere that actually disables your radio (wifi or 3G) for a period, puts the device into deep sleep and then wakes it up to check for notifications. This might help a bit with your problem.

Call quality and battery life
Thank you for making the SuperLiteRom. I've had a couple of issues with it. The call volume is very quiet, to the point that I have to use speakerphone to hear anyone. Also, I don't remember battery life being so terrible with stock 4.4.2. Even with the same apps that i'm using now.
Has anyone else had these issues?

just want to say thank you to mohammad.afaneh for making this superlite ROM. at first i also noticed more battery drainage than usual. i did some reading in the main thread and put the ROM in the stock slot. i ran a battery calibration app and i didnt really see a difference with drainage so i decided to buy a new battery, as mine was around a year old. bought a 7200mAh from amazon. i get at least 3 days on a full charge. idk if the battery calibration app helped with the new battery but it is nice having a few days of charge with moderate to heavy usage. keep up the good work!

Battery drain is safestrap issue. And battery calibration makes no different.

thanks for the tip
Issues with SuperLiteRom on VZW Galaxy S3
Thanks for throwing this guide together! I was able to get this set up correctly.
However, like others, I am having 2 major issues.
Battery is draining incredibly fast. I initially installed on Slot1, but reinstalled on the Stock slot after experiencing poor battery life. It is still dying at an alarming rate (33% in an hour with minimal use). Very unfortunate because I thought this may help my phone's performance by removing bloatware, but something is running strong in the background. Like others, I see Android system using the most power.
Videos lag. Youtube, recorded videos, everything I try to watch freezes and stutters.
Please let me know if anyone has found a solution for these items. I was excited to get ride of the Verizon bloat, but it feels like this was a big mistake. Without solutions to these issues, I don't think this process should be recommended to users seeking to improve their phone experience. At least the disclaimer should be updated.
Its unfortunate now because I'm not sure how to get back to the way I was, now that I overwrote the stock OS.
*edit* Adding shot of the Android system that seems to be draining the most battery here (added a space because I'm not allowed to post links) imgur. com/a/Qk7LS
For those who have installed this rom on the stock rom slot. By doing this it seems to somewhat increase battery life vs a different slot... the known issue. But by putting the new rom in the "stock" location, does that no longer allow you to flash back to stock? In other words locked in this rom. I am finally taking the plunge to put a rom on mine but am becoming more hesitant for the battery issues described here. How bad is it also?
I'm use to my bionic and that safestrap version where I could toggle roms all day long if wanted.

First, you still able to flash back factory stock rom even you used the stock slot location. You must uninstall safestrap first. Currently I'm using litrom and my battery is pretty good. Here how I flashed mine. Installed safestrap, boot to safestrap, wipe cache/davik cache/system, then flash superliterom, once boot up install glowing battery saver, set this on extreme mode and you should be set. Let it run for at least 2 days and you should see the battery is pretty good. If I don't touch my phone, the drain rate is 9+ hrs for 10%. I can't compare screen on time because it depended mainly on each individual using their phone, like if you watch movies or only making phone calls it would sucks less power than if you surfing the internet (not reading articles) or playing games.
Launchers for SUPERLITEROM
1) I love this nimble ROM. Thanks, again.
2) I've flashed to Stock ROM slot. WiFi is muuuch better, but still a little unstable.
3) Does anyone have a favorite launcher that will work with this? Running KK 4.4.2 (I've got Go Launcher EX, which is cool, but the counter stinks.)
4) Is there a recommended replacement for S-voice? I was getting used to that weird android Galaxy lady finding stuff for me while I was driving.
Thanks!
Michael

Without a doubt I'd say nova launcher, I've had it for well over two years with nova prime and it's quick and simple yet customizable. I've tried nearly every launcher including go launcher which was my first launcher I used on my old thunderbolt.
Best bet is S Voice, you can use google now also which is a good alternative

Still the same. Maybe data wiping need to make from Recovery not Safestrap?
