I just picked up an mz600 that's stuck in 3g land. Very proficient with adb and SDK and am used to being able to flash radios and what not with my cell phones.
On my xoom is there any way after I rooted and unlocked to be able to just fast boot the lte radio or flash the radio so I can sim card this thing and get lte?
I have searched and searched and haven't came across a real answer.
OK just found out my answer.
New question, does anyone know if a 4glte card from a mz602 is compatible with an mz600? I have found that I need the card first. Then install the lte card, then flash lte software, then I should be able to install a sim and have 4g.
OK. Here I am. I found out all my information. I have ordered the card and should have my 3g xoom on lte this weekend
We'll here is the update. I am pretty sure it would have been much easier than what I did but...
I have converted my 3g xoom to 4g lte
If you buy the lte modem and install it. Then unlock and flash rogue recovery and just flash the lte radios you will be able to use it.
The couldn't activate on their end because they kept asking for the meid because it was a 3g xoom on their network previously. I told them I did the conversion myself and when I got to tech support I found a fantastic tech. She was patient, got her manager involved. In the end we discovered she needed my imei number and not my meid.
Very happy.
But note you must use the imei after you upgrade. Or the sim will not attach.

Huge problem guys...and sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, total noob here.
I recently bought a t-mobile mytouch 3g, not sure if its 32a or b. But something ****ed up and I brought it in for repair.
Turned it on and it was on Rogers GSM network and my mobilicity sim card would not pick up the 3g network.
The guy said you just have to load a T-mobile rom and it will work.
BUT my question is, will loading the original t-mobile rom enable me to use mobilicity's 3g network 2100/1700? OR do i just have to unlock the phone (which i'm sure it has been) so that it'll work?
MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
Hello all.
i've a US 3g motorola xoom. it will be upgraded to have 4g. but how about 3g? how about sim card slot?
see here please : http://www.droid-life.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/xoom-4g-upgrade1.png
"When motorola xoom launches on 2/24, it will be a 3G ready Device"
as i know 3g will be work after upgrade, as in the sim card slot i see that : "replace with sim only after 4g upgrade"
3g on my device not works. when i put sim card nothing happens.
so my question is, does my xoom have 3g hardware or not? it's not working because it has not the 3g hardware or it's just because of software?
for 3g to be work, i have to send my xoom to motorola for upgrade or i can buy it's hardware and done it myself?
i'm asking this because i'm outside of US. i dont know if i can send my us motorola xoom for upgrade or not. will they return my xoom to outside us? i'm in turkey.

You might want to post this in the Q/A section and not the development section.
Not sure what exactly you mean, but the Verizon/3G version of the xoom works 3G out of the box. You do not need to install a sim card to get 3G. When you buy the 3G version, you need to setup an account with Verizon, setup a data plan, and then activate your device on verizon's network. A SIM card was not needed when I used 3G on my Verizon Motorola Xoom.
You can't take any sim card and install it to the xoom, yet, I believe (correct me if i'm wrong) when verizon is ready to start the 4G setup, you need to send your xoom in because they have to add the 4G device into your xoom, possibly opening it and adding it OR replacing your current one and giving you one that already has one installed. Or maybe the SIM card they're going to install is the 4G device itself, possibly.
Edit: looks like they might need to open it up and install a mini-PCI device.

Thread moved rather than deleted because question was partially answered. In the future, post all questions in the dedicated Q&A forum.
oh, sorry, i post thread in development section by mistake
thanks for your replies.
so, i cannot use the sim card slot even after upgrade for 2g networks? never i cannot use it for example text message just like ipad2 3g?
how about the 3g uk xooms ? can they use 2g simcards?
does those have sim card slot or they work without sim card in 3g like mine?
isnt there anyway to get 2g/3g simcard worked on my 3g verizon xoom? even with upgrading/replacing hardware myself?
is there any mini-PCI chip that enables xoom to operate sim card? for example massaging or using gprs (2g) network. just like ipad 2 3g
as i see on other topics, probably airprime mc7750 will be installed on our devices during upgrade
and i see on it's website that it supports gsm/gprs.
so do you think can we use 2g/3g sim cards after upgrade?
can uk 3g xooms operate simcard for 2g/3g networks? if yes, whats difference between their xoom's hardware with mine? can i replace hardware? for example install a mini-pci-e 3g/2g modem
hello all,
i've a 3g verizon us xoom. may i install uk 3g xoom's rom on it?
may i use a 2g/3g sim card after that?
thanks
Same Problem
Hi developers,
I have a very similar problem, except for I'm trying to use my US (used to be Verizon - but I UNLOCKED it) with China Unicom's 3G sim card. It won't pick up signal. I wonder if that is possible and what I need to change in order for it to work.
Any help will be appreciated,
thanks
The US xoom is cdma 3g and not gsm, which is why it wont pick up signal. Also the simcard slot is not for the 3g but for 4g which isn't available yet. I would doubt it would work.
Sent from my MZ604 using XDA Premium App
Verizons xoom is CDMA and the hardware is different, the sim slot in the verizon has no hardware yet. When the free hardware update comes in at some point it will be 4G not 3G.
So in short the answer is NO.
Lordao
YES! you can use any images on your verizon 3G XOOM!
I have tried several, and they ALL work!
you WILL get your SIM working as well!! but you will not be able to use the 3G GSM network, because the images do not contain the baseband files used for the radio.
Hardware differences have not been confirmed by anyone, people are just assuming. The radio chip used multi-frequency capable hence must be the same.
One must do a baseband firmware change, to find out if the CDMA to HSPA/GSM will work!

Ok
Thanks for your responses...
I'll go back to China Unicom and ask them for the CDMA 3G, since they're supposed to have that, too.
Hi all. Please help. Two days looking for solution on my problem cannot find. I have xoom mz602, first I thought that I have mz600. In the beginning tablet was working good also 3g EVDO internet of my local operator Intertelecom, I am from Ukraine. I know that there is some difference with regions for modem, maybe tablet from US but the connection on the adapter is UK. Internet worked good, but tablet itself worded very slowly. I decided to flash on stock firmware and then input setting for CDMA operator, I had conversation with technician and he gave me all I need. So first I flashed some firmware for 4G xoom which I found. I new that there are three xooms, just WiFi version, version with GSM 3G, version with CDMA 3G (MZ600) and upgraded MZ600 version with CDMA LTE 4G which is MZ602. When I press + and _ buttons togather with power I see "LTE modem off". So I understood that I have 4G version with LTE, but why it is off I didn't know. But I saw some man wrote that he also saw this in his tablet but modem works fine. Because of this "lte off" I understood that I have 4g LTE version. I tried almost all firmwares from MZ600 and MZ602 but I cannot same settings for modem, looks like modem has read only some parameters, and I do know know how to make them writable. I tried CDMA workshop, DFS, QPST. Maybe with some firmware I blocked the modem, and how to unlock it I didn't find. If someone know here on forum know what is my problem please help.
So, as I first time had problem with this xoom tablet, I din't know that LTE modem must be removed. As internet before was working I didn't know that I need to remove it. Looks like technician of internet provider company installed it back. This maybe help for someone. If you have MZ602 with LTE modem installed then just remove it and then you will be able to program your table with programs CDMA workshop, QPST, DFS etc.
I'm being told that my device is going to be booted off AT&T because my XZP is only running at 3G (according to at&t support engineers). I find this hard to believe.
I had some initial issues with the sim because I used the sim from an older phone, which could only do 3G, so it wasn't registered on their network as capable of anything else. The jerks in the store were of no help, and even got attitude with me about dropping my sim into a new phone to see if it would register. Luckily, I had a bud who had a brand new LTE AT&T phone, so I popped my sim in there, let it register, get access to all their new/current bands, and then I put the sim back in my XZP... lo and behold, all the capabilities were unlocked.
I have been running the at&t apn for high speed, phone started using 4g+ when the LTE rollout finally got fully deployed.
In trying to run down if AT&T is full of crap or not about kicking my phone off the network that is "only using 3G"... I came across this https://apn.gishan.net/en/apn/att/sony-xperia-xz-premium
It shows I should have a bearer of LTE, and I do not. I have 4G and all of the older network types, but no LTE. Does anyone else have this? If so, what network are you on? My phone should be current on its updates, as old as they are...
Maybe I need to drop this sim into a current gen phone again and let it register on their network?
Any ideas/feedback is appreciated.
