Hey guys
I tried seeing if this issue was already posted but could not find anything conclusive.
I recently set up my phone on my work's Exchange system, this forced my phone (and SD card to encrypt). Last week Google Playstore crashed and repeatedly continued to load and crash every few minutes. I then proceeded to remove the Exchange account and decrypt the phone before doing the factory reset... needless to say, I forgot that the SD card had to be decrypted separately. My phone is once again working and all the files appear on the SD card but I am getting the following: Images - "unable to load photo", Contacts import (vcf file) - "failed to import vCard".... etc. How do I get my files back??
Hardware: Galaxy SIII (Sprint)
OS: 4.1.2

Anyone?? I cannot be the only person with this issue...

Hi,
Unfortunately I think I am going to give you some bad news. When you decrypted your phone, the key used for the encryption/decryption of the files got removed, so I don't think you'll ever manage to decrypt those files. Did you have any CWM/nandroid backup of the phone when it was still encrypted? I believe only that may save you.

Hello All,
I am having a serious problem with my HTC Wizard and i want a solution for it.
I was running TNT Professional 1933 WM6 ROM on my Wizard then i found some problem with sms notification so i thought to upgrade my Rom.I took backup of my SMS with PIM 2.5 and copied the backup file into my SD Card. Then i removed the SD card and Reinstalled(upgraded) the same TNT Pro 1933 ROM.Everything went fine and the Rom installed properly. After finishing and setting up my device,i inserted the SD Card into my Device and found few files with an unknown extension. The file name were same but with an extension".86e1bece" i.e the original backup file name was 28-10-08 but it changed to "28-10-08.pib.86e1bece".These files shows an icon with a lock in PC and the extension it shows is MENC.
I searched in this forum and found few posts having same problem with a little difference but there was no solution.
I want to know how can i recover these MENC Files in order to recover my precious Data.I need an urgent help in this matter and i hope i will get your replies as soon as possible.
Thanks
Anyone out there????
same hapens to me..anyone have a solution?
I dont think a solution is available for this, they are simply encrypted via WM and its not possible to de-crypt them, unless you got the original handset and its not been hard reset! I have been looking hi and low for this and cant find anything.
I got loads of files that I cant access case I had to carry out a hard re-set.
Apparently the file is encrypted and can be decrypted only on the handset it was encrypted on.
To prevent getting such file type in the future, follow this procedure
Start>Settings>System Tab>Encryption
UnCheck on encryption and after this you will get only normal (Unencrypted file).
Another way is the activesync way. Transfer the file from the handset to pc via ActiveSync, it will automatically decrypt and paste the regular format on to your pc.
Hope it helps

I have just stumble into the same problem. I flash my HD with a new ROM and found out that all my jpg and other files were not readable.
My solution (if you will call it) is to reinstall the old ROM and unticked the encrypt memory card option. You should be able to read the menc files back from the PDA.
After that back-up all your memory card data and re-format your PDA with the new ROM.
Lastly, copy the back-up back into the memory card if anything goes wrong.
Good luck
Thanx alot bro...

That works for you?

Yes it work for me too.
I got same ploblem with Omnia lite
Hi,
I restored a back-up on my HD2 today and, for some reason, the phone wouldn't accept my unlock PIN (these are enforced by our Exchange Server policy). This lead to an full reset after five failed attempts.
What I didn't realise is that it would also wipe the SD Card. I've tried a few recovery apps (Active Recovery, Recuva) but they're not detecting any files.
I'm not sure what WM6.5 does to the card - but surely there isn't enough time on the reset to completely overwrite all the card data?
Has anyone had an experience of recovering files in this situation - or is this a lost cause?
Thanks,
Mark.
Storage Card - Not Installed after failed PIN attempts
Just had the same issue...
Created an email account for our exchange server - which popped up something about a policy change that requred a password to be set.
Unfortunatly, I picked a 3 digit pin.
When you go to unlock - a 3 digit number won't unlock the screen - it wants to dial instead. Hence 5 failed attempt and woops - the device is reset.
Now the phone is running again - but I don't even see the Storage Card.
Looking at settings - system - memory - storage card shows it as not installed?
Any ideas how to get the SD card to appear again?
THANKS!
Help with storage card!
Same thing just happened to me. My TP2 reset itself after password attempt failure. I removed my card as it was resetting (when I realized it was wiping out). Now I can't get the phone or my PC to recognize the card. Any way to recover the data or just the card? I can't even recognize it to reformat.

Bummer! Seems to me you have a System Center Mobile Device Manager controlled device Explain the lot to your companies Admin and blame the OEM
Personally I'm glad I installed Device Status which gave me a 'Format' option within Settings - System and I've used it; I can't recount how many times..
By The Way what does this nirsoft_USB_DEViEW application do for you ??!
Device Status
How do you install this device status utility ?
Encountered this one last time but the problem with me is that my memory card was toasted after using some freeware to recover sd cards. So be careful.
Hello guys,
Im annoyed with my sensation, it was shutting down itself in my pocket every 10minutes so I decided to do a factory reset.
But I forgot that my SD card was encrypted, and now it says "Damaged SD card" when I put the card into the phone.
Do someone have the same problem ? or any idea to mount the partition on linux or whatever ?
I've already tried to set the same pin as before to lock/unlock the phone, but I haven't any prompt for password, it wants to format the card ...
Thanks for your help

Hey, that's a really messed up problem.
I doubt you can make the phone read the contents of the SD Card.
However, what you could do is, format it via the computer & then use a recovery software (like Recover My Files) to get back all your important data.

This BLOWS. I just had my phone repaired and they factory reset it.. now I get this error. Man that SUCKS. I have one app (Car Data Manager) that may not be backed up automatically and last backup may be missing some recent data.
Getting same problem...
So I have had CM10 on my phone for probably 8 months now (almost since I got the phone) and have had no issues with the ROM whatsoever.
I got a notification about an updated version of CM10 today and went ahead and downloaded and installed it, but when I finished the update, I had no personal data left on the phone, could not set up accounts to recover the data, could not (and still can't) recover backups through ROM Manager, and cannot recover backups through CWM. I get an error message which I can't remember at the moment and leads to a bricked phone upon reboot until I do a fresh install of CM10.0.
I read after I started having the issues that I wasn't supposed to directly upgrade from the CM Updater with an S3, but it was already too late. Supposedly the issue is something along the lines of an emulated version of my phone's internal storage? If that makes sense. So whenever it's pulling a piece of information it's looking in the spot it should be in, but on a non-physically-existent SD card, essentially. That's what I gathered anyways.
I have a 32gb external SD Card that is also in use with my S3. I have tried moving my ROM Backups to there and recovering from the External SD Card, but the same error message occurred, although ROM Manager was at least able to find the backups after they were moved (I also had to change the setting and request that it prefer to look through an external SD Card).
So I have a usable ROM as far as the software itself, but I no longer can use any accounts or information that is stored with them or any of the same widgets (not a game-breaker) as I was able to previously. Is there a way to fix this? I've never just been completely stuck before >.<

Just to be clear, you're saying to try and flash CM10.0 and then do not update when prompted from the notification? The other part was clear enough lol.
Edit: Tried the above and did not fix the problem, but I didn't use fastboot specifically because I have a Samsung phone.
The error I'm getting is "unable to mount /system" when I try and restore a backup.
Bump. Still haven't figured this out.
Problem solved.
Re-flashed CM10.1; doing full data, cache, and dalvik wipes before and after the flash; and the problem was corrected.
Hello everyone,
I need your help. Sorry for the long post.
I have a OnePlus One. It was running on CM 13.0 (Android 6.0.1). I had TWRP and MultiROM installed.
I have had an issue where whenever I flash a zip file in TWRP, the phone will show an error after installing the zip: "Unable to mount storage". This appeared in red color on the screen right after showing the progress of the zip installation. The phone worked fine and all the flashed zips worked great as well. However, the error that appeared every single time when I flash a zip file bothered me. So I tried to fix it. (I know, if it's not broken don't fix it, but sadly I tired).
I followed this video to get rid of the error => (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7yDPszoQ5s). However, instead of getting rid of the error, I ended up with a huge problem. My phone couldn't recognize the data in the internal storage. It showed that the internal storage was empty. When I tired to reboot in TWRP, It said: "No OS installed are you sure you wish to reboot". I realized that the video I followed was for a different problem and that I ended up with the same issue the video was trying to fix! I tried every single option the video suggested to fix the problem and nothing helped.
I connected my phone to my laptop and downloaded the latest CyanogenMod zip for my phone and I flashed it. when I rebooted my phone I got a screen that asked for my password. I typed a random password (I discovered later that the phone will accept any password and say it's correct). I got the following error: "Decryption Unsuccessful... The password you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt... To resume using your phone, you need to perform a factory reset. When you set up your phone after the reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your google account...Then the only thing I can select is "reset phone." ". I pressed the reset button on the screen, the phone rebooted and showed the same error. Then I tired flashing PAC ROM and I got the same error again. Then I flashed OmniROM and the phone worked! It didn't show the error.
I have a Titanium backup for all my apps and I also have a nandroid backup for my previous ROM (in my memory stick using an OTG cable). However, I don't have any backups for my internal storage (photos, videos, documents... etc). I am guessing that these files are still in my internal storage. I didn't copy any new files to my phone because I think if I do, then the phone will keep replacing my old files (that I can't see) with the new ones.
My question is: Is there a way to get back these old photos and videos from the internal storage? Note that I didn't delete these files, but the phone can't read them. Also, I checked the nandroid backup that I have and the file system type of the previous ROM was EXT4. My current file system type is the same, EXT4.
Thank you for the help!
