I got small problem. I love the Sense but is not available(working) for the slide. The only one that I found was the Mike, but is old. I would like to learn how to port a rom. I spend hours Google the subject and found nothing related to slide and sense. Most - if not all - are related to CM.
The stock sense 3.0 works fine, but lack some esthetic and improvement. I would like to "make" 4.1 rom, but have no clues how. Any one know a good guide for beginners?. Even at my age ( old fart) I am willing to learn just need a "push" into right directions. Thanks.

Sorry for the "quiet time". I was reading and downloaded some roms, but still do not found any good quide to rom making. I had partial success with rom kitchen. I took my stock rom and made one without ruu. That way I can flash it - if need without flashing radio. I added root and busybox, then zipalign. For some reason, the kitchen refuse to de-oxed. The root manager lite did not install. I had to side loaded. I found a quide to adjust transparency, but it is for evo phone. Will try that. I found couple of guides to make my own rom, but all are for non-sense roms. I want to learn to port sense rom. The other interesting info I found. The slide have Expresso UI. Variant of sense, but not true sense. Could that be a problem?. Thanks.

Do what you want but if it were me I'd learn to fly in a Piper Cub. You can always graduate later to a Lear jet. Good Luck!
You COULD Google "Porting Sense ROMs" & it will give you plenty of selections.

Droid eris has bored me, as it seems no better than one of my all-time favorite sense roms: KingKlick's Eclair Hero 1.1.
Legend, however, has something special to offer. It is a new software, new features, has a new look, and IS STILL, and PROBABLY the last, HTC rom/phone with 320.480, so it is my goal to make it the best I can. And hey, it's gsm too (no problems like my eris rom).
My rom will be based off of the Taiwanese build 1.31. No other roms are currently based off of this HTC ruu, king's being 1.10 and vega's being 1.23.
My steps for the completion of this rom:
1) Extract RUU
2) Get it into a packaged form and booting
3) RELEASE version 1
4) Add cache hack, whatever else is new.
5) More upgrades.
Unfortunately, #1 is where I'm stuck... I need someone to help me extract the RUU. The download link I used is from the legend forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649565
I clicked the "find more" link, and found an even newer one than the one linked directly in the thread, .709.2 instead of .707.2.
I need help to extract it and get this project on the road!
Thanks.

You jumpin' on this bandwagon too? Can't wait to see it anyways . However, don't let your roms go into the directions of King's(as in starting a new rom every month or so) Friendstream smells good.

Good luck mate
The GSM Hero is getting 2.1 Sense within the next couple of weeks. Why don't you save yourself some hassle and wait for that? That piece of hardware is a lot closer to the Dream
man legend roms are awesome love the friend stream out beats moto blur by a long shot. Make it fast i tried king's and vega and its gets slow after a couple hours of use even when i use the clean stale scene
i like blur and sense, legend is nice too. Problem with them is even the 1.5 are laggy. Why not work with vega and firerat? Rather than having 2/3 legend roms, just make 1 good rom.
i was able to extract the RUU into a rom.zip i just cant seem to get the boot.img to split. PM if you want it
i personally would like to see a good Pulse Rom ported but im probly the only one lol
709.2 doesn't mean it's newer than 707.2. I explained this last year, the first two numbers (1.23) reffer to the build version, the last two numbers (405.1) reffer to the vendor, in this case 405 being WWE, 707 being Taiwan (i think) and 709 being SE Asia WWE (again, I think).
Other than regional settings, both roms should be about the same.
I'd like to get myself a hold of the RUU king's using for his rom (unodexed).

he's not using an unodexed RUU. He's using apk's and frameworks that are already deodexed by Raiderx303 or something like that. Look in the hero forum. But it's good to know that the build numbers are consistent. Vega is using newer deodexed apps and frameworks, but his roms are slower...

that being said, now for the fun stuff

HOW TO PORT INC ROM TO EVO
-excerpt from incdoes blog-
Okay, to run an INC ROM on your EVO would be simple. There will be a few broken 'stuff' e.g. bt, wifi etc... but easy fixes!
First you will need the INC ROM you desire to run on your EVO. Now, if its an "INC Sense ROM" you will need a "EVO Sense Kernel" and if it's an AOSP ROM then you will need a AOSP kernel.
Now there will be a few things you will need to replace on the INC ROM to make it run on your EVO:
~We are going to use a sense 2.2 rom as an example~
"so grab these files from any EVO sense ROM, preferable stock 2.2 EVO"
- boot.img (for your phone to bootup)
- system/usr (for buttons)
- system/lib/hw (for lights)
- system/lib/modules (for wifi)
- system/etc/vold.stab (for sdcard readable)
- build.prop (for market and LED's fix)
please note: some prop files include different edits that can break market/data/network/LED's... but then again, easy fixes!
Now you have an INC Sense ROM and 'all the files listed above pulled from an EVO Sense rom, you will have to add/replace the files pulled from the EVO ROM into the INC ROM, sign the .zip and flash (via recovery).
Should/will bootup if its based on the same firmware i.e. 2.2 INC ROM and 2.2 EVO ROM.

OHHH I wish I had patients!! Quite the opposite actually.....just a really busy life.....but I may try to start tonight anyway .
So im flashing a nexus rom right now, that i switched out all the stuff + threw in a cyanogen kernel.
If this thing bricks...
___________
UPDATE: It booted up, but it doesnt register any touch on the touch screen. LOL.
Hmmm maybe if.. Any ideas guys? I switch some other stuff around too. Maybe i can figure this out...
UPDATE: I flashed netarchy universal kernel and now the touch works, i cant get any signal, i dunno what stuff needs to be switch out from GSM to CDMA.
Wifi WORKS! I dont have a keyboard for some reason, so i cant enter my password to test it but it looks to be fine. And since i have no internet connection i cant get astro to install one from my SD haha.
I flashed over sky raider 3.3 final and every thing is perfect. Theres a uncommon sense patch which I also ported because I remember reading that on the hd Rom the ego didn't like the 4 signal bars. Only thing not exactly right is the camera. It doesn't have the capture button but I can take pics by holding a finger on the screen. Video is a no go due to not having the nature button. This Rom is the smoothest I've used and I'm a flash a holic so I've used them all.
So if I use the flash patch do I need to do any of the other stuff listed in the op(replacing files)?
Sweet Magnus, may have to get back to you details of what i find wrong. But i got a porject due next week for school. I have to record us BMXing this weekend. Then make an edit. If i get that sweet alone time in the eveing, i'll be sure happy to port all three and give findings.

This post is what i dont want to happen, like i said before there is no point in repacking a whole new zip file when we can just have a flash over patch zip that does all the work for us.

Hi guys!
I'm using standard Gingerbread Android ROM and I'm getting a little tired of it so wanted to ask if someone could suggest some ROMs to try. Also, I'm not sure how to flash them on Nexus S. I heard that there are many Androids that can be rooted by clicking one button in an app, but for Nexus I found a long tutorial here on XDA and I'm a little hesitant to try it.
Any tips will be appreciated!
Thanks much
Okis
I have tried out just about all of the roms out there now for the nexus s and now I have reverted back to stock. I have found something wrong with every rom I have tried. Custom roms are just too buggy for me even ones marked as "stable". If you're willing to deal with bugs things not working phone reboots and dropped calls by all means try some custom roms. Now I'm just waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich to come out.
oxygen rom is one of the better ones out there.
oh and btw nexus s is one of the easiest phones to root follow the guides carefully and you'll be done in minutes.
This has been discussed couple of times here, do a search.
For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239365
If you don't really feel comfortable flashing a ROM, hang around in dev section where most ROM & guidelines are available and read the feedback from users on each ROM and see which one fits your needs.
And there are NO best ROM only most suitable to your needs, what is best for others doesn't necessarily fit your needs.
I'm with blowtorch, you have to try it to find out yourself...I myself did and at the end of the day I'm perfectly comfortable with stock rooted.
The longer and harder thing to root a Nexus is to installer drivers on computer. After it's fast and easy.
Oxygen is great after 2 or 3 days. I use adw launcher ex, or stock launcher.
Sms, mms, video gtalk, video skype and so on.
Everything is juste ok.
2 days of battery life with heavy use.
I try ns collab, superosr, it's great too. More cyanogen like.
I never use miui more than 5 minutes...but i read and heard that it's a good rom too.
I love Ice and Fire. Has an Ice Cream Sandwich style launcher. Lots of extras.

This x100.
Stock Rom may not be flashy but its rock solid and fully functional.
I once searched for something like this and found that there's no clear cut answer for "best" ROM. Like others said try them all (one you figure out how to flash) or do watch videos showing off each rom to get a sense of what it's like. I don't have my NS yet but I'll be trying NSCollab and SuperOSR when I get it. Odd considering I'm not a CM7 fan...
Depends on the features you are looking for. For me at least, I got the Nexus S so I could have stock AOSP. I've been sticking with Oxygen for a while now as its close to stock with some useful added features. CM wasn't for me though I may give it another shot soon.
There's a lot of tutorials on youtube that show you how to flash a ROM. I suggest you watch a few of 'em to get an idea how to do it properly.
As for the best ROM, like others have said, it all depends on your needs. I use Oxygen because it's very stable and has extra features that I find pretty useful.
I also like minimal bloatware so I downloaded ES File Explorer and removed most Google apps since I never use 'em!

I read about it already, and the question is - is there a simpler way to root Nexus S than installing all of these SDKs etc on the computer? I guess, not from what I see here.

there is one...give it to someone who knows how to do it.
You are asking for best ROM, how to flash it, finding simpler way to root it without installing SDK, etc. on computer....and that's the only way I can think of.

Yeah unless the ROM you are using has it's own modified Rosie. In that case it will still work but you would lose those original modifications.

P3d is very well done, was my favorite sense 3.0 ROM. Nrg also does awesome work, using sense 3.5 which to me feels faster than 3.0
