So I searched through forums trying to find an answer before posting this. I didn't see a similar post, unless it was embedded pages deep into a post somewhere i didn't see.
One of my relatives has a galaxy tab 2 7". They don't have any internet access at their home for their desktop pc ( like 5 year old hp running win xp, but they do pay for the 4g on the tablet ). Their work went paperless and they want to print off their check stubs at home ( don't ask me why, I"m not going to argue with them ). So they bought a Kodak wireless printer, I'm trying to figure out how I can print from the tablet to the printer. I had them get a router so I can get the printer on a wireless network, but I'm not sure how to print from the tablet once i get that setup. I'm fairly comfortable with networking stuff, just not so much printing with no internet connection ( if they had internet, i would just have them use cloudprint and chrome, or something similar ).
I know as a last resort I can get a microsd to sd adapter and have them save their paycheck file ( pdf i believe ). then take out the microsd, put in adapter and plug into printer directly and print, or plug the tablet into the printer with usb cable and go through that, but I would like to keep this as simple as possible ( pull up check, click print, done ) if that can be done. ( relatives aren't tech savvy, as you should tell not having any internet at their house )
Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions?
I think the only way to print from a tablet at the moment is with an app. The only way I can print from my tablet his with the hp printing app to print to the hp printer. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately doesn't help much. I know there are apps that can print, but this isn't an hp printer. and if they had internet access I wouldn't have any problems, but no internet makes things very complicated.

I would search if they have a adapter for the tab2 to be able to plug in a usb adapter. For my Nexus 7 I use a otg cable and I can plug in usb devices but this is only allowed if the kernel supports it. That's the only other thing I can think of at the moment . Hopefully this is useful.

Take note it's not free, I think it costs around US$12. However you can try the free version to see if it can connect to your wireless printer (check compatibility) if I am not wrong.
From what I see, printing is not exactly a simple or easy task on Android as it's not a feature Google planned for?

how did you get the tablet to recognize the printer? cause from what I'm aware you can't install printer drivers on the tablet?

only samsung printers? wow that's stupid, manufacturer only supporting their own printer, doesn't do me any good unfortunately, guess I'll just have to go the route of getting a micrsd card and adapter, and taking that out every time and plugging into the printer, wireless just isn't going to work for this scenario

Hi
Recieved my transformer today and after a few hrs with it, I was totally impressed. It is by far the most beautiful tablet I have had. From an ipad, a tmo galaxy tab and the Gtablet, this one is a keeper. A few things:
1. For some reason when the asus is connected to a USB hub attached to my 27" iMac, it would not charge. I had to connect it directy to an AC source.
2. How do I use the "MyNet" feature to gain access to the videos and files on my macintosh? I saw a message about DLNA from the tab, but don't have any idea how to set it up from the Mac.
3. I read that Asus was providing some sort of cloud storage for the transformer, but I cannot locate the info or an app on the tablet so I can take advantage of that feature. Is there a sign-up page for this online storage cloud service?
4. Is there any macintosh software available which would allow me to access the sdcard on the eee pad? I am able to do this via windows from Parallels, but would like to have access also from the Apple side.
5. Which HDMI type cable should I be getting for the Transformer?
6. Is there a short "root" method I can use apart from this one ...
I am not comfortable for this long process to have cwm on the Tab. Will wait for an easier method. Just need root for now.
My unit came fully updated, and software update hasn't found any thing new.
Kudos to Asus for engineering such an awesome tablet.
#1 is easy - USB ports on computers (any computer) only provide about 500mA of current. This is not enough to charge a tablet device. If you look at the output rating of the adapter with your Transformer, it's probably something like 5V, 1800mA.
Simply put - USB ports on computers don't put out enough juice.

Actually, you're running the original March build. You'll want to go to this thread and click on the link to the latest firmware. It's a manual (non-FOTA) update, and you'll need a microSD card to apply it.

unlimited cloud storage can be found in the app "MyCloud" after the update
if you had webstorage account from asus before you'll have to set up a new one from Eeepad to take advantage of the first year unlimited cloud storage
I dont think MyNet is compatible with macs, and as was stated in the other posts (and judging from your screenshot), you don't have the latest firmware installed. It's easily updated by using a microsd card though.

I'm thinking the same thing regarding MyNet for Macs. Hopefully there is an update in the future that will bring compatibility to Macs/OSX.
As mentioned before, the current capacity of a usb hub ( or computer usb port is not sufficient to do a good job charging the TF. Also the chips used in most 4 port USB hubs provide two powered ports and two un-powered ports. The un-powered ports can not be used to power anything.

My ReadyDLNA (Ext3 external drive plugged into a WNDR3700) is showing in MyNet, so can't we just use a Mac OS DLNA clent/server? I feel like this could be done without even using the router like I am.

Sorry I don't know enough about macs to give advice on that. All i know is that on the asus site, it doesnt mention mac support at all, which leads me to believe there isn't, nor will there be, any software to make it compatible on the mac.
I guess you could use a windows emulator as a workaround or even install a proper version of it on a partition.

Well the software they provide for windows is indeed a DLNA client/server, so in a sense the mechanics are identical, not to mention you can work with with Ext3 in Mac os (Much faster streamingpotential compared to NTFS). I plan on installing XBMC later today, and I'll post back if there are any issues with HFS+.

As long as you see your dlna server in mynet I don't see why not. Your shares don't show up? That's strange. Because I got a windows xp machine running the windows media player dlna server and I see all my folders. Though my transformer don't support most of the video on my PC...that's a bummer. Need a good video player on this transformer that can play streaming video.

Not quite.
The Transformer PSU puts out 15v at 1.2A on a pin that is normally used by USB3 (Not present at all on USB2)
When plugged into a normal USB2 hub (only 5V) it will charge _very_ slowly and even then only when powered off (not just with the screen off)

If you turn off the screen it will trickle charge very slowly. USB ports aren't providing enough juice to fully charge the TF.
2. How do I use the "MyNet" feature to gain access to the videos and files on my macintosh? I saw a message about DLNA from the tab, but don't have any idea how to set it up from the Mac.
You want to run some sort of DLNA software on the Mac. I use an app called "Playback" on my Mac Mini for DLNA purposes to stream to my Xbox and Epic 4G (when i had one) and Galaxy Tab (when i had one).
3. I read that Asus was providing some sort of cloud storage for the transformer, but I cannot locate the info or an app on the tablet so I can take advantage of that feature. Is there a sign-up page for this online storage cloud service?
Complimentary one-year trial of ASUS WebStorage. Please visit www.asuswebstorage.com for more details.

Yes, it's called Android File transfer. http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
5. Which HDMI type cable should I be getting for the Transformer?
Mini HDMI, available for cheap online or for about $29 at your local BestBuy.

You just need to be running a DLNA server on the Mac. Look up an app called Playback.

Mines just updated. Supports up to 5 fingers. Much better ten before. Also remote listen/webcam "creepy". But guess you can stream audio for movies now.
Dont tink its as smooth as splashtop. But i did buy this for my milestone, a long time ago.
This works over 3g. So this is best for me. Using my citrix for work over 3g to my tablet or desire.

This is the update i was waiting for because you can leave the app without it disconnecting
The new ui is also a nice change.
yeah this app kicks ass! I bought it for my droid when I first got it, and forgot about it. Tried it on my Transformer and its gorgeous! I bought this transformer/dock combo to replace my busted sreen laptop, and I am just leaving my laptop plugged in and on in a corner of my livingroom.
Some uses for it.
1: I stick an SD card into the laptop, got on phonemypc, downloaded the firmware update for my Transformer, took the SD card out, and updated my firmware!
2: I needed some .txt file and .pdf file ebooks to be converted into proper .epub ebook format. So I downloaded them via my PC using phonemypc, used the program I have and converted them, droppe them in my laptops dropbox folder, and voila! They were on my Transformer!
3: I also bluetooth connected my Transformer to my phone so I have constant internet on the Transformer on the go (Who needs a paid 3g plan specific for a tablet anyway?? Waste of money)
Anyways, at work, I pulled up phonemypc, logged in, and viewed the webcam with sound to spy on my dog!
I love this thing. Love it.
Typed out using my Asus Transformer Dock
is it something like removing too PC?IA m looking for something to able to remote into my PC and be able TP do things PC from remote using transformer ..is impossible with phonetics or do I need to be looking for something else?
This is a pretty awesome app. I like tier connection system in that it only goes through their servers if it cannot find the computer directly. Very responsive on my transformer.
Possibly reviving a dead thread here:
Has anyone tried this with the Transformer's keyboard dock?
Does the cursor / touch pad work?
How about keyboard shortcuts?
One of my lecture classes doesn't pick up my school's WiFi. I'm wondering if anyone got this to work before with a Xoom. Is there a ROM out with support for this. There are plenty Ethernet ports in the lecture hall that I could use.

Awesome. I love this tablet more and more each day. I sold my iPad and do not regret it one bit.
Another question: Say I get this to work there will be a lot of iPad users in my class that will get jealous. Is there a way to then create a hotspot with the Xoom for them to connect?
Why not just put a wifi router in and lock it down? That way all the teachers could use the net.

Well I pulled out my Linksys USB200M USB-Ethernet adapter and plugged it into my Xoom with an OTG cable and to surf the web on my Xoom it worked flawlessly. I did not have to do anything to make it work except plug it in. Now there are no areas to configure the connection, so if you need a proxy or anything beyond DHCP it will be more complicated.
I then tried using the Xoom as a WiFi hotspot and this did not work. I will dig into it a little bit and see. Now I am running the latest Tiamat rom so not sure if the Tethering & portable hotspot settings are present on a stock WiFi only Xoom
I'm on Moray. I will look at the settings. If you test it let me know. It'll be awesome

Well the Linksys dongle works just fine. It takes a little bit for the connection to work so be patient and also the Xoom does not give any "indication" that there is a conneciton. Under the quick-menu it will still show "No Internet Connection", but if you go to surf the web or check email it works just fine.
Right now it does not appear the hotspot application sees this connection so using the Xoom as a wifi-router does not seem to work. Maybe ICS will bring this functionality
I have to buy an adapter today. I can't wait to try this out on Thursday.

Apparently the new out-of-the-box 4G XOOM (Honeycomb 3.2.2) does not automagically configure the Ethernet dongle. However, if you use a terminal app and su, the following could work on a rooted device (it does on mine, using TrendNet TU2-ET100 adapter with an ASIX chipset):
#
# ifconfig eth0 up
# dhcpcd
# setprop net.dns1 4.2.2.1
# setprop net.dns2 8.8.8.8
#
You can test by doing a ping to your favorite pingsite. Gmail works, but K-9 Mail doesn't know there's an internet connection and won't sync. I did turn on airplane mode so as to disable WiFi and 4G and not confuse the network settings. There may be other caveats. Tweaks appreciated.
Remember, if you break it, you own all of the pieces.
Ethernet on the Xoom
I've tried 3X devices, including Apple's A1277, Belkin's xxxxxx, and Niko ethernet adapters. Using the above method ^^^ and I have to say, it works Flawlessly!!!! whooop whooop ... now all I need is the instructions on how to get a T.V dongle to work with the xoom.
Hi there!
As I couldn't find soulution I decided to write a new topic here.
Recently I've bought 7" Navigation/Tablet with android 2.3 on board, as I am owner of Omnia i900 which I used a lot as a internet access form my laptop ( simply plugh in usb, internet sharing - and it worked) I would like to connect my Tablet with Omnia and share internet form it. Tablet has miniUSB (allready bought usb>miniUsb adapter) but I have no idea how to get connection in my tablet.
This is how I would like to connect it:
(internet network) > Omnia> usb cable for omnia > USB to miniUSB> Tablet
anyone know how can I run internet that way? Is this posslible at all?
I will be really greatful if some one know the solution.
