The note will not charge through the cable plugged into a usb. It will only charge through the wall plug provided. Not sure about the note as I have only had mine about a week, but I know on my galaxy tab, changing the kernel enables usb charging although very slow at charging.

I can charge my note via USB, but it seems to be much slower.
Yeah slowly charging.. maybe the capasity of battery too large.. but when battery full my note having long life..

Your note needs 2amp to make it charge at a better speed, it will charge via the pc but will take a long time due to the small amount of amp the pc usb port will give out,

Try pushing your USB very slowly in the port, it should show the charging sign once halfway through. Then wait a second and push it all the way in.
You might have to try this two-three times to master the art. I have a Tab and it works fine.
USB charging charges at a very slow rate.. turn the screen off and avoid using while charing and you should notice an increase in the battery % after a few minutes. A wall charger is much faster though, just grab a spare one on eBay/Amazon they won't set you back much

You are correct. Pc supplys maybe 500ma and tab charger is 2000ma. So on pc will take over 3 times as long.

Hey guys,
Been wondering how everyone else charges their phones. I've always used my usb charger and only used the car charger when necessary.

I do the battery calibration from the other thread about once a week. For everyday charging I just charge when low. So far my battery last pretty long.some days longer then others.
I usually just plug it in
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Just the usual. Plug it into the standard micro USB the phone came with. Calibrate every time I update my ROM(since Humble comes with a battery calibrate app, makes it very easy).
at home i use the USB charger that came with the Charge. at work i use a micro usb charger that came with a palm pixi or a bluetooth headset that used micro usb to charge. I tried using a microusb cable plugged into my work computer, but that triggers the usb storage mode, which stops my podcast player. I've also noticed some universal usb chargers trigger the USB storage mode.
In the car I have the Charge car dock. I use a mini usb charger for a garmin gps with a mini to micro usb adapter with it. If I plug that directly into the Charge, it triggers the Desktop dock mode, rather than car dock mode.

Bahaha. Here, I use my Galaxy Tab charger. Goes a lot faster because of the higher amperage, plus I don't need to charge my Tab very often.

Will this work on Galaxy Tab Plus?

Certainly not with the stock kernel.

I cannot get my Tab to charge even with a 2.1amp car charger.

It might, but my kernel won't work with the P6200.
I think the tab actually charges through USB although the notifacation tells you not charging. You'll see the percentage of battery increments slowly.
I have a 4 USB wall charger with an output of DC5.0v 2100mA.
When I connect it detect as a USB connection and no charge.

Don't believe everything it tells you. Its pulling 500mA from the charger. That's enough to charge the tablet if its not being used.

Is there a way to charge via USB? I'm going on a trip and would like to be able to charge my computer and my note at the same time.
When you connect it, should start charging automaticly!!

This link is for the Galaxy tab, but I built one of these adapters and it works great with the Note 10.1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845844
I am able to charge my Note 10.1 using anything that has a USB port, just put it in line with your sync cable and your good to go.
Stock sync cable charges tab... It just does it slower...
No need for "special made adaptors"....

Sorry to say mine does not, not even on my stationary USB3.0.
Mate, it trickle charges through the USB... Usb doesn't provide the same charge as the wall charger. Yes there's a that little red x over the charge icon BUT it is charging. Depending on whether you are using more current in the activity that you are doing depends on whether the tab charges or discharges the battery.... Leave it over night and it will be 100% charged the next morning... I tend to charge my tab this way when I'm transfering large files from/to the sd card, plug in before going to bed and its charged come morning...
It says discharging in status when in USB. But I'll try it tonight.

i see somewhere that it work on USB when the screen is off.
Make sure you have the USB divers installed, you are using the original USB cable and that you are not using the tablet while trying to charge (leave plugged in over night). Should charge fine even with red x.

Turn the 10.1 completly off, then charge in USB. It will charge way faster than if it is on.
Wall charger provides 2000 mA, USB provides up to 500 mA.
It is a given that wall charger charges 4 times faster.
The reason why the cross is over the battery when charging from USB is because you are using more amps than the USB can charge as long as the screen stays on and the tablet is in use.

S3 charger does not produce 2000 mA (see the sticker on the charger)
Indeed charges pretty quickly when screen is off. Went from 58% to 80% while I was walking my dog (1.5 hours). I plugged it into my Lenovo T520 USB-3 port.

i am using the original charger to the wall charge. even i plug it into pc the red cross still showing. any solution?
As it's stated above - The Galaxy Note 10.1 can not charge threw USB due to the high power usage, all it can do is a "status quo" on battery usage.
So if you wan't to charge the Note, plugg it directly into the wall, and if possible, avoid power extenders.

If you are using the ac charger and the original cable, then you may have a fault in either the charger or the usb cable
If you can borrow a friends usb cable test to see if that helps
If not try your friends charger.
After a while the usb cable gets damaged and when damage can show a fault in different ways
Slow charging
The red cross appears
It shows charging but the battery never goes pass say about 1%
It shows charging but instead the unit is discharging.
If you get any of these before you wipe your device try another cable if possible
I have had my replaced already and ferl I will go and get a docking unit, and a spare cable

sorry for late reply.
i did get a new charger from ebay but unfortuately the red cross is still there but nevertheless it charge slowly.. it took me about 8 to 10 hr for fully charged.
any other solution?
The probabilities are:
Charging Port is broken
Charging cable / Charging cable connector(s) is(are) broken
AC Charger is broken
Analysis:
Borrow someone else's charger & cable
Try the combination :
Other charger + your cable ==> if working then your Charger is broken
Your charger + other cable ==> if working then your Cable is broken
Other Charger + other Cable ==> if working Both Charger & Cable are broken
If all failed ==> your Charging port are broken
Eliminate posibilities

Their has to be a problem with the Samsung usb cables. Both of my Samsung fast chargers only use normal charging when using the Samsung usb cable. But when I use a different usb cable fast charging works every time.

I know I have usb cables all over the place so it's not really a issue for me. Plus I have a fast wireless charger also which works great too.
