Question about Unlocking a rooted tablet. - Asus Transformer TF700

So right now my tablet is rooted and on the newest ota. If i want to unlock it and install cromi, what do I have to do to insure proper installation?
I assumed
1. Save everything I want through titanium backup or wherever.
2. Unlock the bootloader through the asus tool they provide in the website.
3. Install TWRP through goomanger on the playstore.
4. Save the root through ota rootkeeper
5. Go into TWRP and reset everything and install cromi
6. Download ota root keeper and re instate root?
thats it?
Do i have to do all the stuff with the root or will the tablet keep it even when i reset everything?
thanks in advance

No Cromi is already rooted. If you are on 10.4.4.25 which you seem to be just unlock via the unlock tool and install goo manager and use it to install twrp( goo manager will only install twrp if you are rooted and unlocked). And you should be able to flash cromi right over it only needing to wipe cache and dalvic cache which the installer will already do for you.

Installing CleanROM Inheritance 3.2.1

I have a stock firmware 4.11 jellybean updated OTA TF300T US
I unlocked it and installed TWRP 2.3.3.3 (latest version)
This room seems for TF700 and TF300
can somone tell me step by step how to install it since it will be my first custom rom.
the problems i am afarid of is that in the site it tells that TWRP 2.3.3.3 is not stable (but maybe for TF700 not TF300)
the other problem is that the rom and kernel seems to be on different files. and i dont want to install tf700 files on my tf300
if someone can help it would be appreciated, i know there are others like me who wish to go the next step but are very cautious and need some guidance from the top brass.
thanks
ps furthermore how tpo revert back to stock rom if i ever need and does region effect it

As you installed already TWRP 2.3.3.0 thats perfect.
just wipe System, data...
install CLeanrom it will give ysou options for kernel (choose tf300 in your case) and for DPI choose DPI160 (WW or US according to your tablet version). after that you can choose different options for other apps. If you THEN boot and want to use other kernels e.g. overclocking or if you have the 3G version you need to use ubers TF300TG kernel, then you can use the kernel installer - if you don't want to use another kernel, then you are done after installing clean rom.
Just to a nandroid backup prior to wiping/installing.

The most confusing is this
"TF300T Users , please use DPI 160 for tablet mode. I recommend you flash the TF300T stock kernel first as it flashes some TF300T specific libraries. Then flash a kernel of your choice. You can do this within TWRP if you chain them up together."
how do you chain them together, this is were i am stuck and cannot start until i understand what he is saying
Just follow instructions: flash stock kernel 1St when installing through Aroma, then boot.
Download kernel installer, then flash a kernel of your choice.
Good luck :good:

Well if i understood, i install inheritance 3.2.1 with the stock kernel, then install a kernel of my choice. So what is this kernel for?
Right download cromi 3.2.1 and also kernel installer 1.6 from the same thread.
Install cromi choosing the tf300 stock kernel. Don't reboot but now flash the kernel installer (you can chain them before hand in twrp if you wish) and install Unters tf300 kernel.
You are now good to go. If you are coming from stock you don't even need to wipe.

[Q] what is "clean install"?

Hi everybody,
I am wondering what is a "clean install" of CROMI and how do you perform it?
I read some threads but never completely understood this issue.
Thanks
If I am not mistaken a clean install is an install as if you'd install the rom for the very first time ie. wiping data, cache & dalvik before flashing.
Be aware that:
a) you don't need to do this unless you're experiencing serious issues
b) you'll lose data, so make sure you back everything up using your favorite backup method

There are 2 type of clean install, one with stock rom and stock recovery and the other for custom rom and custom recovery.
1) Clean install for stock (rooted or not rooted) with stock custom recovery:
a) Go into settings -->backup and restore --> factory reset or boot into stock recovery and select "wipe" icon.
b) Download full Asus firmware, unzip --> renamed then boot into stock recovery and let it installs.
2) Clean install for custom rom/kernel with custom recovery like TWRP or CWM
a) Boot into TWRP and seletct wipe at the home screen (similar procedures for CWM).
b) Select Factory reset, then system, then internal then format sdcard (your device is now super clean and ready for new OS).
Also "dirty flash" is just wiping cache and dalvik cache then install.
Hope that help.

You don't wipe the external SD card with the above so you install it from there. However multiple reports that on 4.2.1 TWRP no longer sees some external cards so it is risky to wipe int sd unless you are happy using adb to push files to the tab.

So it would be wise, when a new rom comes out, to have two copies of it? One of external and one on internal? When you make the Instructions would be a good idea to put that in there for the sake of preventing that question. Dont like being commanding, but just a suggestion.

Wipe internal is like wiping your hard disk on your PC, external sd is like your CD rom where your rom/kernal zip files resigned and you will be installing by selecting rom zip from your external SDcard. As sdbags mentioned that TWRP failed to detect your external sdcard (I think this is something TWRP team needs to work it out in the future), a work around with 4.2 is not wipe internal and format sdcard.

Good idea TWRP team desperately need to do some updates. Currently I'm working with another dev (Flumpster) to patch TWRP so it works with the new bootloader. He's already patched the 1200x800 version of TWRP so waiting for him to do the HD version

Too risky at the moment. What I did with the TF300 was enforced a flash of the ASUS Stock 4.2.1, then flash the special TWRP and then CROMI. This has resulted in zero bricks so far. We had 2 bricks in the testers when I tried to flash it as one file
The issue with including them all together is I need to test it properly to make sure it is fool proof. I also think it will wipe data this way too - so you will lose everything as the partition table has to be included to rebuild the partitions to be compatible with the new bootloader. Again I need to test it so better to stay safe than risk a brick.

Ah OK got an answer. The mount points are different in 4.2.1 and the system partition needs to be extended to be significantly bigger - 750MB versus only 497MB in 4.1.1
Anyway he is preparing us a version for the TF700
Until then I recommend you don't flash anything although you can use the patched TF300 TWRP as it will just have a much smaller screen and aroma won't know how to calibrate so you'd have to use the volume controls to navigate.

I know that the Prime needed to be repartitioned for 4.2 because the system partition was not big enough. But did the stock TF300 users lose any data when upgrading to 4.2? Because if they didn't, I wonder how the partitions were changed.

OK, our system partition is already big enough (786 MB), and changing the mount points is easy.

They don't lose any data when Asus do it no. They do with the way flumpster has done it. I think it is because he creates an empty system and data partiton as part of his blob file. (It's 800MB in size but zips up to a few MB)

Ouch, hope some of your testers had nvflash. So you had to flash the stock rom, thus wiping recovery, and then pushing recovery via fastboot then flashing Cromi'd 4.2 over it? Had I nvflash I would offer to test but I cannot afford a replacement tablet. And even though ASUS only charges a little less to repair, I would have to go through the trouble of them changing the information in their server to allow me to unlock.

[Q] Is my Asus TF700 bricked ?

Hello everybody !
I think I know the answer, but I still prefer to ask before.
Today I unlocked my TF700 and start the process (with tutorial) to change the stock rom for the CleanRom.
but I was disturbed several times during the process, and I made several stupid mistakes ...
(like choose an ICS Stock Rom instead CleanRom, and after trying to wipe data to repare my fault)
Now my Tablet was stucked on ASUS logo with "The device is Unlocked""
Or if i try Power & Vol+:
"the device is unlocked."
"android cardhu-user bootloader <2.10 e> released by 'ww_epad-9.4.5.30-20120907' A03"
"Checking for android ota recovery"
"Booting recovery kernel image"
Knowing that I have no access to recovery,
I do not have the USB-Fastboot-RCK icons, and the tablet is not recognized by the PC ...
Do you think it is definitely bricked or that i can still have a little bit hope ?

Thank for your answer, and that's what I did:
1. Unlock the TF700 with Asus Unlock Tool
2. Flashed the TWRP recovery (with Scott Recovery Install Tools)
3. Pushed the latest CleanRom version on my Internal SD
4. Reboot my TF700 on TWRP Recovery
5. Launched the CleanRom Installation (after the choices screens)
6. Waiting 40 minutes on the spalshscreen ...
At this moment I didn't no what to do because it doesn't seem normal to wait so long ...
So I rebooted to recovery, and I restarted the process. But I've been disturbed by my family and i chose a wrong rom (an ICS Stock Rom).
I had already started the installation when I realized my mistake !
Then i tried this
1. Vol+ & Power to reboot on recovery, but i only saw "WIPE - FASTBOOT - ANDROID" Icons (instead TWRP Recovery)
2. I tried Android Icons > No Result
3. I Tried Fastboot Icons with USB cable plugged > No device in CMD prompt (Fastboot Devices)
4. I Tried to pushed again the recovery.blob with Fastboot > no result
And finally i made the biggest mistake ... I tried "Wipe Data", And now i see the message "Booting Kernel Image, etc..."
I don't know what to do now

Like I said though, if you are unable to get to the boot loader menu or recovery, it is bricked. When you flashed the ICS ROM, was it ASUS' complete stock ROM? Or was it a custom ROM based off the ICS stock ROM?
But as I already said, if you are unable to enter the recovery or bootloader, the tablet is bricked, and cannot be restored unless you have your NVFLASH blobs, which I doubt you do by the way you are speaking.

Sorry to hear. When you flashed ics you should of been able to boot back into the ROM and flash 4.2.1 but it's if you tried to boot back in and it didn't work or what. Patience be with you when dealing with Asus because I doubt the price for fixing will be very cheap and you will probably be unable to unlock again.

For the unlock it's not a problem for me, I think I'll sell my tablet after that.
I am disappointed by Asus (especially the software side)
Many hanks for all your answers !

If you are going to sell it then it is not worth the fixing price for what I have seen in the past. They usually charge $300 for the main board and $100 for labor, so about $400 to get it repaired.

[Q] Root, Custom Roms, Unlock on Asus TF700T

Hello,
i was wondering if someone could answer some questions that i have about android and the asus tf700t.
now i already searched on google and on xda but there are so many informations and i just cant tell which one is the "best" or the right one.
My Asus is unlocked. i got that far and didnt think it would be too hard to root but i see command lines and/or 3 different kinds of software or files that i have to download first or programs like unlockroot etc.
so i was wondering if you could answer me a few questions.
1. do i need to root to put on a custom rom or is it enough that the device is unlocked?
2. what is the easiest and safest way to root?
3. what are 3 good custom roms?
i have android 4.1.1 on my asus and heard that 4.2 is out so i would like to update it but i never had an android device until now so i just want to make sure i m not destroying it after 3 months of use.
Thank you very much
Ben
Custom ROMS are pre rooted, usually, so you best bet would:
1. Update to stock 4.2.1
2. Root using Motochopper
3. Download GooManager(give root rights') from Play Store and Install TWRP by installing open script recovery.
4. Perform a factory reset via TWRP, without wiping Internal storage, or MicroSD card.
5. Install CromiX or CyanogenMod
There are other ROMS out there, but it is advised to install CromiX first because it is stock based and can be flashed over the stock ROM.
Also, make sure you know how to get into the recovery manually, and make sure you check files before flashing to make sure things downloaded properly.

Thank you for the short guide....
but here is the first problem i have....
i dont know how to upgrade to 4.2.1. or if that update is available for my device yet. some pages said it is. some said its not available.
i have no idea where to get it since over the air update is not possible due to the unlock.

Asus pulled the JB 4.2.1 firmware off their website, probably because they realized it had too many bugs. They probably are working on a new release and I would wait for it.
In the meantime read the forums and familiarize yourself with the process of rooting, installing a custom recovery and flashing custom roms.
If you don't want to wait, search for the forums on the Motochopper tool. I believe you can also use it to gain root under 4.1, but I'm not 100% sure.
If you have root, download Goo Manager, tap the 3 dots in the upper right and choose: Install open recovery script.
This will install the TWRP 2.5.0 custom recovery.
Boot into TWRP and select 'Backup'. This will give you a nandroid backup of your current system. Copy it to a safe place.
Next, you still being on 4.1, you need to flash the JB 4.2 bootloader which is version 10.6.1.14.4. You'll find a link in post 1 of the Cromi Xenogenesis thread in the development section. The dev packaged it with TWRP 2.5. It doesn't hurt to re-install TWRP.
Also download the latest release of the Cromi-X (ODEX) ROM, currently 4.4.1, and place both zips into the root of your internal or external SD card (your choice).
Boot into recovery, choose 'Install', navigate to the 10.6.1.14.4 bootloader/TWRP zip you downloaded and swipe to flash it. After installation the tablet will reboot into your old rom - this is fine.
At this point, just to be safe, you may want to check if you have the correct bootloader installed: Boot up with Vol Down and Power button and read the tiny script. It gives you the bootloader version.
If you're 100% sure you have the correct bootloader and TWRP 2.5.0, proceed:
Boot into TWRP recovery again, select Install, select the CROMIX 4.4.1 zip and flash it.
The Aroma installer will start and give you options to choose from. Stick with most of the default options for the beginning. You can always re-flash the rom with a different set of options selected.
Enjoy!

[Q] Currently on Cromi 3.4.1 (Android 4.1). How to move on?

A while back I installed TWRP and Cromi version 3.4.1-10.4.4.25/US DEODEX. My tablet has gotten infuriatingly slow and I think its time to move onto a newer and better rom. I wanted to try out the 4.3 Cyanogen Rom, but the requirements are to be on the asus 4.2.2 bootloader. How can I go about updating the bootloader. Do I have to revert to stock first? What process should I follow? Thanks guys!

The safest method is to download the latest firmware from asus extract it and flash the .zip with trwp, from here it will overwrite twrp after you reboot so set up android 4.2 and then reboot go into fastboot and fastboot flash twrp 2.5 from there you can flash what ever 4.2 rom/kernel you desire

If you liked Cromi, you will love CROMi-X, the JB 4.2 based successor to Cromi roms.
Boot into TWRP and make a nandroid backup - just in case.
Backup your files, pics, videos to your PC or a SD card - just in case.
Go to the CROMi-X thread, download the 10.6.1.14.8 bootloader/TWRP 2.5 package, flash it and boot back into your old Cromi rom once.
Boot back into TWRP (which should be 2.5 at this point), choose 'Wipe', swipe to do a factory reset (highly recommended if you move from 4.1 to 4.2 since 4.2 file system is quite different from 4.1)
Flash CROMi-X 4.7 - enjoy!
You will probably find all your files, pictures etc on this clean installation anyway since a factory reset in TWRP leaves the data/media folder untouched, but backing them up is just good computing practice.

+1 this is the safest method, but once you have the latest Asus software installed use motochopper to root then use Goo Manager to install the latest twrp which is v2.6.0.0.

I do not see a reason to flash a stock rom. You loose your recovery, you loose root and have to start all over.
And I will stick with TWRP 2.5 for the time being. 2.6 has been OK for most users, but some had problems with it. And I don't take chances with my recovery - ever.

I was only helping the guy to upgrade to the new bootloader and at the same time as installing the latest Asus rom. Yes you will loose root and recovery but motochopper works so easy on a fresh install and recovery is really easy to install using Goo manager. I use this method every time an update is released and available to download from Asus support.
