[Q] Can't backup roms at ALL. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I originally was using TWRP the latest version, and every time I tried to make a backup, it would say error too many open files, data lost found and then error tarring split files... so I tried flashing CWM and when trying to make a backup it said error while making a backup image of /data. I really don't know what to do, as now I'm basically forced to stay on the rom I'm on, and I want to try out something new. Any help?

Bump.

So you are rooted and bootloader is unlocked correct. Are you sure you have the latest twrp. You could get goo manager app and get latest through there by going into settings and flash recovery. Then when in recovery don't select anything extra when you go to backup. Should work fine if your rooted and bootloader is unlocked. Remember if you took Verizon latest ota them your bootloader would be locked again, just putting that out there.

Just Rooted w/ Easy Root Need help

I just finished rooting my Verizon GS3 using the Easy root method ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVRjAiW7HdE&feature=plcp ) and everything went well, Installed Rom Manager, flashed Verizon GS3 CWM Recovery. Booted into Recovery, went to make a backup and it keeps giving me an error "Error while backing up boot image!" I've checked and it seems the the root took just fine, Superuser is working. I just can't make a backup in CWM. Please help
If you're using CWM Touch than that's the cause for not backing up. Use a non-touch CWM, preferably 6.0.1.0 so that you have the ability to use kexec and custom roms later to prevent potential issues later

You Da'man! Thanks so much
No problem, glad to help!
And meant to say custom kernels

What's a non-touch cwm?

when you go into Rom Manager and flash CWM it asked me if I want to purchase the "Touch". I did the first time I and was having an issue making a backup. When you are in CWM you usually have to use your volume up/down to toggle through it. If you add the "tough" you can use the screen and just tough what command you want to do. For some reason it didn't like it and wouldn't let me make a backup. So I flashed CWM again and it let me make the backup.

Stuck on bootloop from Clockworkmod 5.8.4.9

PLEASE HELP!! I have successfully rooted the device and was doing ok after flashing CWmod recovery 6.0.1 through E-Z recovery app and running Liquid Rom. I managed to be dumb enough to flash CWMod version 5.8.4.9 through Rom manager and when I rebooted my phone it got stuck in boot loop. I am able to get into CWMod 5.8.4.9 but I cannot restore my backup anymore. I can also data wipe and install a new rom, but it all just keeps going into bootloop and I cannot get past the samsung custom unlock screen. It first flashed that, then the android man pops up on the next screen like its loading something and then just keeps looping through the process. I did not use ODIN for any of this process and I dont know how to get myself back tothe point where I can reboot. Any help would be tremendously appreciated, because I'm dead stuck and in a panic. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Happend to me last night...
I made the same mistake... DO NOT download any recoveries from ROM manager. I found out the hard way... So the problem now is your phone is stuck using the recovery you downloaded. I am not sure of a quick way using that recovery if you can revert back but... My solution got me where I needed to be in order to get going again.
I had to use Odin to root to stock ROM. Yes when you wipe it will destroy your data but not your pictures, downloaded files, and other files you put on there. When I re-rooted with stock all my stuff for CM10, gapps, and the kexec CWM was there.
So use this guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28530394&postcount=1
Section 1!!!!! And follow the steps EXACTLY the way it says to.
This is why i have never liked rom manager...
The best solution for us to flash recoveries is ez recovery free from the market. I would use this going forward once you Odin back to stock

Same **** happened to me.
Odin. I lost my pics and internal memory though...

[Q] [HTC one SV][Help] Serious issues trying to unlock and flash

I followed the HTCDev site for unlocking my phone. Before locking it back, I flashed the clockwork from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113671
I tried to make a backup from there but it was unable to mount system or much of anything. It made some level of backup but I am unable to get to it anyway.
I tried locking the bootloader but it said there was a security warning and wouldn't let me back into recovery so I unlocked it again. In recovery I tried to use the flash from zip option but it was unable to mount the sdcard
Now I am unable to do pretty much anything it seems. I feel like I need to get the default recovery back or something like that but I am at a loss.
Ruu or install twrp using hasoons aio.

I second that, run the all in one kit and flash TWRP
You're in the One forum, not the SV. Might have better luck there.

Strange TWRP problem, no OS detected etc. Boots fine to stock

I ran the causal root applet on a new SG3 on 4.1.2. Ran root, the unlock script and installed TWRP. Booted into recovery and I got the error for a locked bootloader. I used download mode to get back to the stock rom and then used E-Z unlock to unlock the bootloader. Was able to boot into recovery this time but TWRP read internal and external memory as 0mb, unable to make a backup, and gave a no OS error when went to reboot. I updated TWRP with TWRP manager but the problems are still persistent. Phone boots fine and reboots fine at the moment.
I'm not sure what to do now though. I'm at the point were I don't care if I get stuck with the OTA update but I'm afraid that will brick the phone. I'm not sure what went wrong with TWRP, since this is the second S3 I've rooted.
Any sugestions? I'm afraid to use odin or try anything else since the phone currently works fine. But I'd prefer to not have to sleep in fear it might force the OTA update while I'm asleep and wake up to a bricked phone.
I tried searching, the best I could find is that newer versions of TWRP can't read the memory on a 4.1.2 rom, but the problems were there when I originally started with the recommended version.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.
Try to use cwm or philz and see if you have the same issue.

Can you install a different custom recovery over one using the causal applet? I was planning on trying to reinstall TWRP but I wasn't sure if I had to do it a certain way like through odin or Using the unified tool kit?
Thanks for the help so far!

No.
Download latest philz touch recovery d2lte zip, then flash it in recovery, then reboot recovery.
Then check and see if you're getting a similar error message.

I can't, recovery doesn't detect my internal or external memory. That's my main issue.

OK.
Then download the Odin version and flash through that. Then boot the phone into recovery.
Or download ez recovery, and the latest cwm image file, and flash through that from your rom.

I tried CWM and the stock recovery through EZ, both gave the same error as TWRP, unable to mount /
I'm really confused as to whats wrong. At this point I don't care if I get stuck with the OTA 4.3, but I don't want to try to update it with the recovery still not reading either my SD cards.
Any Ideas?
Are you sure of your phone model? I believe it puts it on the screen in download mode and also on a sticker under the battery. I'm mostly curious because you mention that this is a new phone with 4.1.2. Are you trying older versions of cwm as well?

I'm pretty sure, has all the verizon bloat and logos, also I'm pretty sure the causal applet bricks the international ones. I don't remember the version of twrp that the causal script flashed, but I tried that one, the most recent one, and 2.5 i think from EZ recovery. The stock recovery from EZ has the same issue now though which is what really confuses me. at the moment I have root dissabled and the bootloader is locked and its back with the stock recovery, it still says custom when i reboot the phone though.

WiFi won't turn off, can't re-flash TWRP, HELP!

My One has been acting up lately. It started out that I couldn't turn off WiFi. I would turn it off but it would turn itself back on shortly thereafter. It has nothing to do with WiFi optimization or anything like that...I've fiddled with all those settings. Anyway, I updated to 38R thinking it might fix things, but no such luck. So I fire up titanium backup in preparation for a full wipe and find out that my device is no longer rooted. On top of that, TWRP is gone as well. No big deal, reflash TWRP and re-root. Nope. ADB says that TWRP flashes successfully, but when I boot into recovery I get the standard Cyanogen recovery instead of TWRP. Any thoughts?
Have you tried flashing stock and starting from scratch?
Did you remember to uncheck the option for updating fastboot with system update as well?

Unfortunately I missed the fastboot update bit. Did I **** myself with that?
If you could access CWM do a factory reset, and hopefully that clears up your problems, if not go back to stock via: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541
the only reason why i could think that it'd say flashing is successful is it's flashing to the wrong partition (which doesn't make any sense), or the bootloaders locked, which it isn't since from your post it says you had TWRP installed, but try going back to stock fully via fastboot, then installing twrp and such.
