Have HTC stopped producing the One S? - HTC One S

I have just been looking on Three UK to get a new contract for my mum and noticed the One S has been taken off... all they have left now is the One and Desire C. Have they gone out of production?
Looking for a mid range phone and don't want to be paying out lots. I have seen you can still but it from various places but that is a bit far out of my price range.

Maybe in UK, but here in asia, HTC still offer One S, though it's only the S3 variant..

It's a real shame as it was the perfect phone which I was suggesting to my mum. She didn't want a big phone, but also wanted something quite up to date. I really don't want to go over to the Samsung side. Maybe I will look at Sony!

I'd suggest that you look at Xperia S when you are really into sony, coz before i bought my One S, i was torn between those two. And probably it has a reasonable price now, since the release of their newer phones like the Xperia Z.

Prices dropping with successor models?

Hi,
does someone know the usual price policy of HTC concerning new models? Do previous ones become cheaper once a new one is available?
I'd be particularly interested in the Diamond, as the Diamond 2 will be available soon and I'd like to know whether I could expect a price drop soon.
Thanks.

It´s logic that prices goes down with the launching of new models, I don´t know if HTC has a policy and don´t really think so...
But let me give you an example of how the prices "down"
At least on my country, one of the lastest countries in the world to recieve any new model of almost anything.
Now days the actual price for an HTC S621 (Excalibur) is around $357USD!!!, X-peria is $1214USD (Just to give some examples)
With this example you can see that here lowing the prices does not apply
Maybe in other countries where new models arrive soon as they are launched you can see a sensitive decrease of the prices.
Just my point of view.

Yes, thats why I am asking. I wasnt actually thinking of a real strict policy but rather about how HTC respectively most of the vendors acted upon the availability of a successor.
Did the prices usually decrease quickly once a successor was out or did they remain stable? I am asking because I want to get a Diamond but wouldnt really like to have a sudden price drop within two weeks.
i am thinking the same thing but with an experia
The prices apparently do not decrease with a new version. I just looked whether the price of the Diamond's predecessor, the Touch, dropped in price and it did not.
However right now I am seriously reconsidering anyway if I am getting a Diamond after having read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439410
supply and demand
I'd suspect that htc stop making
devices when newer ones come out
Yes that´s correct
But that is happening on the first world countries where consumism is more faster.
On other countries like mine due to the late arriving of new models we have a 2 year delay making the "old" models still being here sold as new and at impresive high prices.
I´m sure other countries behaive similar.
yep, it depends wich country your in if the price is going to drop. That's why ebay is a good reference for purchase with it's many different international sellers.
Here in Hong Kong Definitely price of a previous model will drop if the New Model comes out.
Just to give you some numbers for a HTC TOUCH HD.
When the HD was released here in HK it has costed initially ca. $930USD now HD will be sold for ca.$650USD. Most likely by the time Touch Pro2 will be coming out, the price will drop further ca.100-150USD.
However HTC made smart move and did not announced the TP2 is a direct succesor of HD but atleast it is almost the same just differences of Keyboard, miner screen issue and the camera. Therefore I believe here HK any new buyer will sure go with the TP2 which will put pressure of HD price.
With this years economy situation and other WinMo device manufacturer coming up with better devices ,HTC will be needing to droping the prices. Just Today I have seen the new Asus P835 just for ca.420 USD which has almost the same specs. like a HTC HD
Therefore as others also meantioned if you are in a country in which those new devices will be released on day 1 then I would say it is worth to wait for few more weeks.
Thanks everyone.
A price drop is also what I would have imagined, however as mentioned previously it doesnt seem to take place - at least here in Europe. The Diamond's predecessor, the Touch, started at EUR 410 and is now down to EUR 310 (when the Diamond was introduced it was at EUR 340). The Diamond at the other hand was initially available for EUR 500 and is now down to EUR 380.
So the price drop is rather equal, even with the Diamond not having yet a successor out.

Budget Android handset suggestions UK

Hey guys, my N1 died today (Long and sad story) and I need a budget handset that does the job. I don't need anything too fancy apart from a decently active community for it. I don't have a price in mind but want to keep it relatively low i.e. persuade me to spend more lol
Cheers!
Hello There, Sub £100 pounds you have 2 choices, San Fransisco from Orange, A Extremely good android Phone only £99.99, or T Mobile Pulse, which i believe is only £50, now if you want to spend up to £150, you could get HTC Wildfire, Sony X10 mini and mini pro from Vodafone

Would you recommend any of those? I saw both the wildfire and x10 mini and both look pretty nice.
My alternative is to send my Nexus one off to HTC to get it repaired at my own cost. In short my power button is gone (Flex and button) and the digitizer is brand new (I.e. it won't need replaced) but doesn't register any touches, which I believe is due to my messing around in the internals. Does anyone know how much HTC would charge at the maximum? I don't want to pay to get it shipped off and returned if i'm going to be given a >£200 figure. Ugh! What to do!
A friend of mine has the San Francisco from Orange. You get all the features you would on a high-end phone, but don't expect to be able to play the latest 3D games or take awesome shots with the camera, the UI is a bit laggy as well. Overall definitely worth £99 though.

Definitely a possible choice for me now, thanks for the input bud.
SanFran is the way to go, I had a pulse which I sold when I got my Sanfran, wouldn't go back.

One S, Xperia S, or Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, i really love the one s, i wanna get it so bad but then there's all these other phones that are cheaper, have more features, just lower build quality (which might be a big deal) So what would be better, to wait for the one S till they lower the price a little or go with an Xperia s or Galaxy Nexus? i currently have an htc sensation and the battery life on it is killing me so that's crucial too!
I had the Xperia S and it was the worst phone I have ever had the misfortune of using. Terrible Battery life, unresponsive buttons, out of date OS and really clunky.
The One S is a far superior phone imo, however I'm going through a exchange due to MAO, apart from that it is a wonderful piece of kit.
Make sure to read up on GN screen. I hear (and seen) they have lots of bad ones.
i yesterday exchanged my gnex for a one s.
i just can say that the one s feels much much better in hands the only problem is that the resolution isn't really high you can see the pixels if you are looking closely.
thats the only "issue" but i would go with the one s.
although now that Gnex is $400 bucks.....it might be a good choice
I'm thinking about just buying a one s and selling it and getting the nexus to make money lol

Haha I am in a similar situation. I am eligible for an upgrade on T-Mobile but I have a fairly new GSM Galaxy Nexus that I received through work, which I absolutely love.
I'm juggling around the idea of using my upgrade to buy the One S to turn around sell it for a profit. I just can't decide if it's worth using my upgrade on since the Galaxy S3 is right around the corner...

wow, that was helpful thanks!
I ended up ordering One S today for $260 w/tax + shipping + activation fee (no $50 rebate here, I think with rebate it would have been $10 bucks less but have to wait a few months). I will also get $100 rebate back, so end price will be $160 (buy new 4g phone send them ****ty Shadow II and get that $100 rebate....that phone worth nothing lol...i am still gonna sell MyTouch 4G for $200-250 to another country). I also got $80 account credit few days ago....so if you count that in, phone was $80 bucks w/2 year contract.
I really liked the phone in store. Built quality is REALLY good. Nexus One and now this phone are the ONLY 2 phone that you just wanna carry without any case....its just so good.... I dont think none-HD or pentile display is an issue here. My BIGGEST concern is the development. Will play with phone a bit when I get it, maybe sell it for $400-450 or whatever it goes for and buy Galaxy Nexus.
Have to give Sense 4 at least a day to see if its any good....
oh and I have to play around with Bluetooth 4, I hear it has problems with some devices. If its not working for me then I am ordering Nexus for sure ASAP. Bluetooth is something I use almost everyday to stream music to car. < radio, CDs, and even media storage....those days are over for me Pandora and Tune-In Radio + 5GB data plan !
Will also check out Nexus tomorrow at Verizon to remind myself what it looks like I was dying to get that phone at release date but now its not as sexy anymore.....

ps Nexus wins in 3 things: development, 720p display, and NFC. Everything else goes to One S
I wish One S had GLONASS in addition to GPS. HTC hasn't joined that camp yet. Does any HTC phone have NFC?

if you sell the one s, you will be making money if you buy the nexus off expansys cause its only like $450 i think considering all its features and that its the GSM version, so you wont have to make a contract with verizon. i was thinking about getting it too! still undecided though.
Checked out Nexus today....and frankly speaking One S is a better over all phone. Its much thinner, you dont even feel it in pocket, its much better made due to AL body, they have the same 4.3'' usable screen too.
now the screen on Nexus phones i checked out in Verizon, one had burn-in, and 2nd one was a bit off white compared to One S. The 720p resolution is there, but colors on One S seemed better. I also haven't really noticed anything different when watching Youtube or viewing web.
So in the end it all comes out to development and ROM, do you want CM9 or AOKP on Nexus or Sense 4 on One S (maybe later it will get those 2 ROMs as well)
Right now, I am keeping One S

Sold One S and bought Nexus......Nexus getting exchanged now because screen is just horrible compared to One S. I dont know what the deal is but Nexus has had screen issues ever since November release.....its ridiculous....i just have NO words (Nexus One had serious issues, dont know about Nexus S, and now Galaxy Nexus again....) I read people exchange 5+ phones in order to get decent quality screen.
that said, One S screen had zero issues and for that reason looked much better. But despite the excellent design and quality of One S, Nexus feels better in hand, but One S feels better in pocket because its thinner
I would NOT purchase a used Nexus without warranty ! I am gonna milk Google till they ship me what I bought, a phone without any issues. Thank God for their over night free shipping....

Buy Z3 or wait?

I'm thinking about buying Xperia Z3. I live in USA and have AT&T, so I think I would need the D6603 model to work on AT&T's LTE.
Now, I'm thinking should I buy it from Sony themselves? They are currently selling it for $630. Or should I just wait till February for the Xperia Z4? I've been reading lots of problem with quality assurance and it's making me scared to buy the Z3.

The way I see it, I've yet to come across a phone that is 100% on build quality. Maybe it's happened, but I haven't been apart of it. If you wait for the Z4, chances are you could have the same issues. If you are gonna wait that long, you could always check back and see if the Z3 is 1. Cheaper when the Z4 comes out and 2. Build quality in later batches have been better.
Personally I have no issues with my D6603 on Bell.
I am one of those unlucky customers. On my third one now (it is currently being shipped to me). First one had a defective camera. Second one had a bad QA with the micro USB flap--one side of the flap has a bigger gap when closed fully.

Wait till Z4 its a much bigger upgrade. Z2->Z3 is comparatively minor. I got the Z3 because I just joined T-Mobile so I had to buy a phone, otherwise would have waited for the Z4.
You can still get the Z3 its a good device just check it in the Sony store itself for any defects, and exchange if there is an issue. I think the D6606 should be good, it was the D6616 that had a lot of issues as TMO got dumped a bad batch, I exchanged 3 on my 4th here lol. Then again TMO is also getting a lot of iPhone returns due to defects, according to reps. This happens with every company, there will be a few bad batches here and there, especially when a device is newly released.
Happy people don't complain/or say how great their device is on forums, they are too busy enjoying, that's why forums are skewed towards those with issues so be aware of that.
Sup, I was planning to ask this here as well until I found this thread already made. I'm considering switching from an iPhone 5, to the Z3 now that it's officially out for pre-order in the US. I already own a Z2 Tablet myself and so far it's been pretty fantastic. I've actually grown to really prefer android over iOS, which is one of the reasons for switching. (That and my iPhone has been having nonstop issues ever since iOS 8, and the iPhone 6 was kinda... lame this year IMHO.)
Anyway, as someone coming from an iPhone 5, should I wait for the Z4? Or get the Z3 now as it's a fairly large jump anyways? I can actually get a 10% discount from it's current price too (via student discount 630USD -> 566USD)
I read that the Z4 might be announced in February-March, but judging from the previous releases, it might be actually released near May-June? (7-8 Months)
I'm aware of some of the issues with the Z3, but as abhinav.tella stated, occasionally devices usually have some bad batches at the start.

You can check for defects at TMO/Sony store itself so don't worry about buying the phone, its good. However if you can wait get the Z4, even if you get the Z3 you can't go wrong but as I said the Z4 will be a bigger jump.
I would get it on contract or with insurance. This phone isn't built like a premium flagship, and looks good until the wear starts creeping in. Mine is perfect, but the cotton corners (or whatever they're made of) are starting to look a little iffy lol.
There's a number of things on the Z3 that mean it's worth waiting for a Z4 as well but you'll find those issues all over the forum.
Can't say you won't experience the same issues on a Z4 though.
Buy now, upgrade later. Enjoy what you can get today, you aren't promised a Z4 or Z5 or whatever MAY be next.
I don't know that there is a single phone without fault. I just purchased mine yesterday and so far, we are getting to know each other just fine.
I was really waiting for the Nexus 6 until the rumors of the 6" screen were true. I was guttee and thus began my quest for a different device. I have a Nexus 4, I got my sister the Nexus 5 last year and having to break ties with nexus was not easy
It really depends what you are after. Most phones today are similar it is a matter of what your personal needs are.
I was debating between the Moto X 2nd ed (not avail in stores, online only) and the Z3. I live in London and had the opportunity to play with a phone at a Sony stand inside one of our malls out here. Absolutely loved it. I travel a lot and so having a 20 MP camera with all of the amazing features was a no brainer.

Should I still buy the OPO?

Hi!
Well, I got a Samsung Galaxy S4 as a gift and as much as I appreciate it, I'm not a fan of the Samsung brand because of their build quality (it improved in those 2014-end devices but I'm talking about the GS4). The GS4 is being sold by the main stores at 399€ so I'm planning to sell it for 320€/350€, buy the OnePlus One and even buy a case/skin for it.
Well, trading the GS4 for the OPO is a no brainer but I am thinking in selling the GS4, get the money and save it to spend it later on a better 2015 phone.
What should I do? Should I buy the OPO, should I buy another device or should I wait? I would buy the OPO without a doubt if it was some months before but after hearing all the confusion between OnePlus and Cyanogen, CM12s being promised to around this date and still being unreleased... Should I wait for a possible "OnePlus Two"? Should I buy a Nexus device? (I currently own a Galaxy Nexus)
I need some advice
You won't get $350 for your s4, check swappa.com for me easy place to sell and to get a realistic idea of what you'll get for yours. I've had a lot of phones and the 1+1 is far and away my favorite. Dev community is excellent, hardware is top notch, great speakers, beautiful screen, awesome battery life, it's really does everything perfectly. How long do you typically keep your devices, though? If you want to keep your next phone for more than a year, I'd say to wait and see what 2015 flagships bring.
Without a doubt if your interested, buy the phone! I've recently bought a Nexus 6 and the OPO is still one of my favorite phones of all time even compared to the Nexus 6!

Nah man, I can sell it for 350/320€ without a problem. Here in Portugal mobile contracts are rare, 95% of the population buys the phones carrier locked (which means we can only use that carrier's SIM cards in our phones) and the devices are expensive. GS4 is being sold at 399€ new in the big carriers so I can sure sell it for less 50 or 80 euros.
I have my Galaxy Nexus for almost 3 years and I don't change my devices often, maybe 3 to 4 years. I also can't spend over 500€ on a device so I don't have wallet for a HTC or a LG or a high end Samsung (even though they aren't the best price/quality choices, I'm just stating xd).
I would be sad if I bought the OnePlus One today and June or July comes and "OnePlus Two" comes at the same price, with better specs and the CM12s. But I don't also want to wait until OnePlus decides do reveal or not a new device. That's why I'm asking here, to know the thoughts of the ones who bought the OPO since they sure are better informed than me.
Definitely get it. I had motorola, samsung, nexus etc I even had the LG G3 before coming to the 1+. I love it, hands down the best phone I have owned and I wouldn't get rid of it till it is properly dead.

I wouldn't be sad, theres always going to be the 'next' follow up phone, even if you buy the 'newest' it doesnt take long for a successor to come along or at least the rumours. With the Oneplus One you are still getting great value for money, stable CM11S, CM12S due shortly (definitely), along with OxygenOS and lot of other custom ROMs to pick from. Not to mention the obvious like nexus-easy bootloader unlock and root.
You can also now get a OPO relatively easy, plenty of invites knocking about or just purchase directly every Tuesday. I imagine its going to be pretty hard to get hold of an invite for the Oneplus Two when its released, as I'm guessing it will be invite only for the first while, so factor that into your thoughts around waiting time/availabilty.
I've had the Galaxy S4, HTC One M8 and Nexus 5 all within the last 5 months and overall the OPO is better than them all. Theres no added bloat, no difficulty/warranty issues unlocking the bootloader, solid stock CM and as many custom ROMs as you like and the battery life is fantastic. In terms of the nexus 5, its basically a nexus 6 for those who were underwhelmed by the nexus 6, in terms of large (without being too large) screen, great battery life (non 2k screen), decent camera and very reasonable price.
