[Q] No startup/response/nothing after M2SD and CMOD10 Beta6 - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Hey,
I have a strange but big problem..
Yesterday I installed Sakindias CMOD10 beta 6 (before I had beta 4). The install went well and after installing Gaaps, I wanted to install Mount2sd (the flashable version)
Now the problems started. I'll make a log of my actions:
- wipe/format factory reset
- wipe Dalvik
- install ROM (beta6)
- install GAAPS(superstripped)
- boot
- flash M2SD
- boot
- reboot (just to be sure...)
- ... this took long and it was late, so I thought.. go to sleep and charge the battery, so I plugged it in and expected it to just reboot normally since I didn't congifure m2sd at all
This morning I noticed it is still stucked in the Cyagoned boot screen..
Removed battery to reboot....but then.. NOTHING
IT DOES NOT START UP
no HTC logo, no LEDs... does not respond at all
Somebody a good solution to solve this? Or is it really trashed? If so... what happened?

There is a little bit progress:
I plugged the charge cable in after a while and now it has the "charge-battery screen" where it says that the battery is 0%....
pretty strange no? Since it was plugged in all night and the screen was still on this morning.
Anybody a idea what happened?

May be charger switch was off
Anyway, after charging Flash beta6 and boot, then gapp ,then boot and then m2sd .

what about the long booting? I used at M2SD with Rmount and data enabled in beta4. That worked perfect and fast, should be the same for beta 6 right?

Ungaze is the best and simplest way for using a script.Just download the .zip file of ungaze,extract it in your SD card and than transfer it via root explorer to your system and reboot.There is a complete guide in the forum just follow it.I am using Ungaze and am not facing a single problem.

Here's a theory
Effective from beta6,sakindia123 has made it that the system apps dalvik should not stay on /cache, but on /data /dalvik cache ~reducing your effective free space from beta 4 to beta 6 by about 80 MB.
Something extra has occupied your /data creating no space ~that's the theory
Now, if you have flashed any installed apps(like titanium backup through a flashable zip ) before ,that would clearly explain, why there wasn't enough space in data. But, if you haven't,it could be a case of burnt nand already eating up your remaining free space in your /data.
Or it's just mount2SD messing things up ~when there isn't enough free space
Other than that, my theory could be way off your real problemo
Use adb and Take a log and see to know your real problem.
In whichever case, I recommend you use the play store version of mount2SD ,it has various fixes and protection against such things.

I didn't even configure m2sd.. would that already fill up all the free space?
And about the burnt nand: I never used any OC sscripts or kernels.. that would make it unlikely right?

I used the app-version on beta4, but there it gave some stranges errors, like fc when opening the dev. settings screen...
I thought that the flashaple m2sd was the golden standard.. what do you recommend with beta6?

Though default is 600,
You do realize that beta6 comes with overclocked kernel and you kept it running whole night.
I still recommend mount2SD play version with kernel 2.6. But if you're comfortable with scripts, keep it.

thnx for your help..
I wanted to switch to beta6 in the hope that the wifi toggle would be fixed.. (I use that realy often)
however, I'm gonna try beta6 with the mount2sd app.. otherwise I'll just go back to beta4, worked well for me except the wifi toggle
Maybe you can tell me your configuration? beta6? which script to increase memory?

I don't think Wi-Fi toggle is fixed.
But I don't know for sure, since I don't use Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi toggle is working in Mini CM10's latest version.It is smooth and stable as well...if you use Wi-fi on daily basis,I would recommend Mini CM10 ROM.

I know I'm getting off-topic, but I tried the minicm10(v4) but it didn't really work out...
I noticed that the free internal memory is quite low after flashing (as fas as I know because sakindia put the dalvik cache on the internal.. right?) 150mb available, 40mb apps, 38mb free..
but my main problem is that I can't flash the super stripped gapps?!
I just did a clean install of the minicm10 rom(after factory reset & dalvik wipe) and installed the gapps (given in the thread).. but they don't show up after reboot.. :S
I haven't installed any memory scripts or whatever ....
edit: Now I tried my previous rom version (cmod10 beta 4), memory looks normal (150mb total, apps 40mb, free 90mb), but also here the gapps don't show up!
Any suggestions?? really appreciate your help!!

to late...I just started to format the SD-card and do a complete clean install of the minimod.. if the problem stays, I'll make the screen shot!
I think I'll try minimodV3, since it doesn't has the OC kernel and as far as I know is the dalvik cache not moved.
Or do you have another tip for a nice stable combination of ROM + increased memory?

You can use the configurable version and type "m2sd cmdalvik enable" after "m2sd rmount enable" in terminal emulator for a ROM in which dalvik cache is stored in /data

Nope.. I'm not a all Rom flasher. I only Flash cm main lined ones. Right now,I'm using cm10 beta 5 with video fix and kernel 2.6 and mount2SD play version(so, technically I recommend it )

I flashed again V4 of minicmod.. but the Gapps still don't install :S I really don't know what to do next!

a2sd on Stock Rom

I am using stock rom on rooted htc explorer, I tried installing a2sd on it through guide on Darktremor official facebook page but i always get an error meaning I'm not able to install it.
My sd card is ext3 partitioned. I tried installing beta02, using gingerbread. Can anyone tell me how do I install it?
i dont think it will work on stock rom because stock rom doesn't support init.rc script.
may developers can help you in this case

to run a2sd u need 2 things
1.Init.d and a2sd supported kernel
2.app2sd scripts
Instal busybox first.. then it will work!!
I'm trying to figure this out at the moment too. I think from what I can gather what you need to do is install a custom kernel. As I understand it, most of the Explorer custom kernels should work (although not the ones for the CM ROMs etc.). Something like Cranium or Titanium should do the job.
After installing that, it should be relatively straightforward, provided you haven't already got a FAT32 partition full of apps via link2SD (which I do...).
Hope you get it working, if you manage please do post back here with what you did and how it went, as I will probably be attempting this in the next week or two and would appreciate your experience.
Alright people!
Based on trial and error method:
Step by step instruction for a2SD on stock ROM
1.nandroid backup
2.backup all apps with titanium backup
3.unlink all apps if you're using link2SD and uninstall link2sd
3.1 install busbox from play store and install it.
4.backup and then format sdcard
5.partition with ext in recovery
2gb is enough
6.flash darktremors a2sd beta4 in recovery and then flash cranium kernel #2 or 800MHzkernel or kernel from ateeq ROM
7.wipe cache Dalvik cache and reboot
8.install a2sd gui
9.see if worked in gui
10.click move dalvik 2 sdext
11.wait for it
12.then move app data to sdcard with titanium backup after every app installation
13.enjoy HTC
FAQ:
1.I get "error installing from bla bla bla.zip"status 0
A:
Take the update binary from cranium kernel #2 and put it in the beta4 zip...
Just delete the update binary in beta4 and put the binary from cranium kernel zip
2.Now I get mount requires 4 args got only 3 status bla bla bla

Well this time it'll be complicated..
Now open the update script with any text editor es note editor
You'll find that in beta4.zip you have mount system and then 3 parameters like "/data , etc etc," now you have to add a fourth parameter like this mount("yaffs2", "MTD", "system", "/system"); and the same way for data
If you're crazy enough, all you have to do is just copy and paste all the files in the beta4.zip in it's respective location and then give it permissions 777 (use terminal and es explorer)
And voila your zip finally installs!
That's it people!
If you don't understand anything mentioned here,google it search and search in xda until you find it.
All I can say is that it can be done and actually I'm sending this post from such a dt a2sd enabled stock ROM with 401apps in total!

Also out of curiosity, which specific kernel do you use?

Yes #3 has a major bug..
Delete all apps except essentials..after all you have titanium backup
I'd prefer the 800kernel posted by akya22 but it causes random reboots on my phone.(it might not on other phones though)

Just backup your fonts folder in data and after wiping data put it back in the data using aroma

Just want to say that I have installed Cranium #2 and DT apps2SD script now, and things seem to working OK. I am in the process of restoring all my apps with Titanium (I sprung for the Pro version, so I could batch restore without clicking "Install" hundreds of times, if anyone else is doing this, I advise doing likewise), currently have about 53MB of free space (I think I maybe need to move data separately or something? I did have 82MB free earlier). But all in all, it seems reasonably successful

You need to move app data to sdcard with titanium backup-first move app data of 1 app and then you can batch move...
Btw,if someone is so poor enough,know that you can batch restore apps with free version of ROM toolbox lite and batch restore data with titanium backup

I ended up opening terminal emulator and typing "a2sd datasd", which did the job just fine. Plus this way I believe it should automatically be done for all future apps.
As for extracting apps from nandroid: Yes, it would appear so.

I tried it...moving data back and forth but sometimes large cups of data are lost..including google accounts..but only during the moving process..
..also, I would like some special data to remain in internal memory like contacts....

I am yet to find any app with data missing, but I haven't run all apps yet since doing this I don't think. The important ones are all fine though.
And I find contacts to be fine from SD.
To each their own I guess

Sorry, but you would have to flash a ROM which has support enabled.

And I want a script which can be flashed without wiping my data off on my current Rom.
I have partationed my sd card using cwm recovery , earlier I was using sense 4 flyrom v3 and for that I had partitioned but due to delay in launching apps and laziness of that Rom I switched back to stock but now I'm running out of space for my apps , so that's why I'm asking for script working on it ,

Check for yourself using any root app. Is there a folder /etc/init.d? If there is, then, you can flash any of the scripts like int2ext, a2sd, etc.
If there is no such folder, then, search for a ROM with init.d script support.

Then guess you can...
But proceed at your own risk. These scripts are meant to be initialised during the first booting of a ROM. So, be careful and take a Nandroid backup in any case.

Did the first boot take some time?
If yes, check your internal memory.
If nothing changes, install apps like S2E or try the Mounts2SD from the play store and try. Since you have installed Mounts2SD, you would have to try installing the Mounts2SD app from play store.

If you have removed the a2sd script, get the Mounts2SD flashable zip and flash it, then reboot twice. I have attached the zip for you.
Usually, it takes lot of time for first boot after mounts2sd, which depends on your SD card read/write speed. Leave it too boot, once it took 17 minutes for me. Ensure you're having a good battery left.
If that does not work, in my knowledge the only way is to reinstall the ROM.

Mounts2SD does not support all ROMs. Try reflashing the ROM and installing Mounts2SD, to check if it supports it. If no, try another script. That may be the perfect fix.

Once you have installed MultiSwap you can choose a custom swappiness .

Out Of Memory Tweak
This option will tweak your minfree and adj values in your Sense or CyanogenMod ROM.

System Information
This option will show you how much in total and free space you have in your device.
So if you are unsure of your free space, this option is handy to check before installing some versions.

MultiSwap Removal
This option will completely remove MultiSwap.
It removes everything related to MultiSwap, including all files and directories made.
A reboot is needed after choosing this option.
You don't need to use this option if you are changing versions or upgrading MultiSwap.

Just flash the MultiSwap All in One installer like you would flash a ROM in recovery. No need to wipe anything in recovery beforehand or afterwards. You can run the installer anytime and choose different options and combinations as many times as you want. No need to remove Multiswap if choosing another version, upgrading or changing options.

If your installing a version of MultiSwap that uses the system partition and need to acquire more space, an easy way to remove unwanted system apps, libs, wallpapers etc is with ROM Cleaner.
- If your using ViperS v3.x, you can use the ViperS Sense 4+ Cleaner Script.
- If you are using ViperS v5.x, you can use the ViperS Sense 5 Cleaner Script.
- If you are using Revelation ROM, you can use the Revelation Cleaner Script.
You can check your free space by entering the code below into Android Terminal Emulator or you can also check in the MultiSwap All in One installer.

Some Sense and CM based ROM's busybox don't support priorities for swap so upgrading busybox will solve your issue. Please install Stericson Busybox Installer from Play Store and update busybox using the Smart install option once installer has loaded up. Then reboot after upgrade. I prefer not to add busybox to MultiSwap as this way you will keep everything left compatible for ROM by just upgrading.

When upgrading ROM, more than likely you will need to reflash MultiSwap unless on CM and you use the updater script included in CM. You may also need to update busybox again too.

When upgrading MultiSwap, no need to remove any previous version as the updater script will take care of it for you.

Experience lag after installing or upgrading, just reboot and should be fine after that.

Having trouble with the JB Sense version, try the Sense based version.

If the installation hangs, just remove the battery and reboot into recovery to repeat the process.

Sounds like init.d support isn't working correctly like a couple of others on Revelation, try this from the link below to see if it is working. If not maybe flashing ROM again without wiping may help. You need 110Mb free space on system and cache before flashing MultiSwap if you missed that.

Ok, I need help with installing this. My /system has only 93MB free by default. I even wiped everything and reinstalled Viper 3.1.2. Haven't even tried booting into the rom yet, and already my recovery only reports 92.7MB space left. I tried moving a bunch of apps to my SD card before trying with wiping/reinstalling and free space number still wouldn't budge. How can I get to 110MB required by this mod?

I could make one for CM ROM's etc but using data partition instead of cache, this is because all the CM ROM's I have tried use the cache for systems dalvik-cache.
Edit: If you have the free space in the cache partition go ahead and use the universal MultiSwap otherwise I'll make one later that doesn't use the cache.

I found it not really nessasary in the 2 Sense JB ROM's as yet but needs quite a bit of testing doing this as the values you choose have to be compatible with the kernel and all the apps oom_adj levels need to be considered but may add this later on, just seeing what next updates for the ROM's will be if the same or not.

I don't think this is related to MultiSwap but try with clearing the Camera data in Settings - Apps - All - Camera

If there is nothing else that you want to remove from system you could move some system apps to the data partition. There's a few apps that can do this, one is Titanium backup. Moving apps to sd card will only help free the data partition up, not system.
When I get some time later I'll make some alternative ones, meaning you can choose what ZIP to flash for what partitions you want to use with MultiSwap such as system & data or data & cache as well.

On CM10.2 the free space on cache is only 26M, so if you could make one without using cache, but only system and data, that would be pretty cool.

Yip will do this a bit later on as need to update OP when doing this too You may know this but will mention anyway, to use the data partition before flashing you will need ~250Mb free. The reason is that after installing MultiSwap, ~140Mb free space is needed on the data partition so user apps can be updated successfully. Some Apps can be moved to SD card and also CM based ROM's have plenty of system space free so important user apps can be moved to the system partition too.
Edit: If your worried about moving system apps because of frequent updates of CM based ROM's overwriting system, CM has a great feature using an updater script and you can include apps/mods/scripts from being overwritten by flashing the updated ROM. Well I think everything you list in the updater script is moved to a temporary directory if remembering correctly and they are moved back after installing the update. I use to use this feature and it always work great. I wish all ROM's had this feature, which would save a lot of time. I don't think many people know of this feature, If you are unsure of this I could explain more

Yip did you read the OP and look at the script, it's different. It's still basically swap though if that's what you mean but done differently. It acts differently too
Edit: This swap mod doesn't keep growing swap space and not empty, swap pages are move out of swap when apps are closed etc. Also you can have busybox in any location.

Yes very possible, I'm on ViperS. With things removed for there other apps and I was still easily able to free up 110Mb of space, you could move some system apps to data if you don't want to remove anything else. I'll probably make another one for people that have troubles freeing up system for some Sense ROM's.

The title says it is "quad" swap, this is what matters, I believe. In my opinion, also as @axetilen said, the more swap files, the better results. Based on my experience, for example 4 swap files of each 50MB is better than 1X200MB swap file. try it out.

GAPPS FOR ANDROID 4.3 ARMV6 DEVICES​
INTRODUCTION:
As some people had problems with Android 4.3 GApps and the space left on our phone I created an special GApps. This will be installed in /cache. This means that the GApps won't be installed in /system so you had more space on your device.
INFORMATION:
After install GApps, don't wipe cache unless needed, if you wipe cache you need to re-install GApps.
HOW TO INSTALL:
Flash Android 4.3 ROM
Reboot an configure it
Install GApps
Reboot and Enjoy!

Ok, I've successfully installed this with cm10.2. Took out gnow and a few unnecessary libs. Also copied Googletts.apk and libpatts_engine_jni_api.so to /system (fc issue). Rebooted, and it's all still there. Beautiful... just beautiful.:beer:

I believe that would require changing the mount statement and all of the symlinks in the updater script. Then your script would symlink gapps again, from /data/app to sd-ext. Double linking. I prefer the /cache method. It's hard enough to fit all my user apps in /data, even with link2sd, or some script. I noticed that somehow the /cache/dalvik-cache folder is empty. And the only other subfolder of /cache that seems to contain anything is recovery (log, 16kb). I just don't see anything that would need to be wiped.

[Noob][Q] Link2sd and wiping cache?
I would like to flash this /cache gapps.
Just two questions that I am not sure about what can happen:
- Can I use link2sd to link whatever apps to /sd-ext? Will it leave the gapps in /cache in place untouched or in some way link2sd interfere with it?
- Is the /cache partition used the same that will be used for app caching? What happens if I clear cache by mistake? That is, from recovery, or from any app that has "clear cache" option (e.g. link2sd, Titanium Backup etc etc)? Will I have to reinstall gapps, or it's a separate /cache partition?
Awesome idea, the low storage in p500 sucks...
Individual app caches are largely stored in /data/data/, so for clearing browser cache (big one) will have no effect on /cache partition. Link2sd will also not effect gapps (which have usually been installed to /system in the past). It will only link user apps (/data/app/) , or system apps that have been converted to user apps. Yes, wiping /cache from recovery will effectively uninstall gapps. But with this installation I haven't found ANYTHING in /cache that would need to be wiped.

After installing these gapps, the only working buttons are power and home and latinime FC's!( I removed libcomm-jni.so and gtalk libs)

Yeah, I had fc also. But Latinime is not in gapps. It's in the rom. I previously had a problem with one of rashed's gapps packages, which installed an incompatible libjni_latinime.so. But this package doesn't do that. I fixed this by installing a trimmed version as a user app, and it's lib into /system/lib. Buttons? Don't know. But I did take latinime.apk (23mb) out of /system. So possibly it's a space problem.

Two symlinks (libjni_latinime.so and libjni_latinimegoogle.so) are written to /system/lib/ overwriting the former. But these libs do not exist in /cache/gapps/lib/. So either edit updater script, to remove those symlinks, or copy libjni_latinime.so to the zip before flashing. Still don't know about buttons yet.

I got same problem- performed full wipe, then flashed rom (cm10.2 from Rashed's thread: and gapps following instructions in op.
Then got the problem with buttons not functioning and keyboard either fc or not showing at all.
So, I flashed rom again, this time with mini gapps by Rahulsby and everything works fine.
However, I prefer of course to have gapps linked to /cache so I hope we manage to nail what's causing the problem..

Yeah, something that I did during my previous installation allowed my buttons to work correctly. But I haven't had the time yet to go back and research everything that I did. The problem is fixed for me thx a lot(button problem is fixed too) I just verified all symlinks one by one and made sure their apps and libs exist and now everything is OK!
