Ok, I'm confused. I have already rooted, S-OFF, Super CID, etc and updated to OTA 3.18. I need this OTA 'cause I've had NO LUCK with other ROMS where it concerns bluetooth. They all crackle and make listening to audio unbearable, so I'm stuck with stock. So, I updated RUU'd to 2.20 then OTA'd to 3.18, still have S-OFF, Super CID, unlocked, etc, flashed TWRP 2.3.3.1, but being told by SuperSU that it cannot write binaries and to check to see if I have root. I know one cannot attain root if not having been rooted prior to 3.18, but since I'm already S-OFF'd etc, can't I? Was installing SuperSU from the Play Store the wrong way to go about it and must I flash via TWRP for perms to take or somethin'? HALP.
Answered my own question. I had to flash SuperSU through recovery, duh :silly:

Can't find a confirmed answer for this. I previously rooted my US Cellular Desire under 2.1 using Unrevoked, S-OFF was set. I then flashed to 2.2 stock ROM and got the 1.06 hboot which of course can't currently be rooted. Although I have read that people that rooted prior to updating to the 1.06 hboot were still able to re-root. The clarification I am seeking is, once S-OFF has been set, is it still set after the upgrade? Or does the 2.2 rom flash revert this back to S-ON? If people are able to re-root, I would assume that means the rom flash leaves it to S-OFF and therefore Unrevoked should be able to re-root the phone. Is that assumption correct
I'm currently S-ON and have non rooted stock ROM. I wonder if my phone would be rootable if I apply the official OTA update? Since it installs new HBOOT, would revolutionary be able to S-OFF it?
Check the revolutionary.io website, it pre determines before you download whether if your current setup is rootable.
I don't know if you can S-OFF and root after the update, but I DO KNOW, that you better don't do it before the update.
I have S-OFFed my phone using revolutionary and rooted using this su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip through the clockworkmod. But after latest OTA update I wasn't able to boot anymore and it pretty messed up my phone. After 4 hours I was able to repair my totally useless phone hopefully.
Pardon me if I'm missing anything but I'm a bit stumped.. I S-Off'd and RUU'd to a Rogers 1.94 exe. I then downloaded the OTA update to 3.17 JB and it worked fine. My S-Off retained and everything was great. I re-unlocked my bootloader with HTCdev. After a lot of finicking with adb drivers etc etc I managed to flash TWRP 2.3.3.1 on to my device. I then managed to downgrade my touchscreen drivers. Great, right?
But my problem is.. I can't seem to find a root method for Jellybean. Everything I try returns as 'permissions denied' or 'cannot find' when it's going through the steps of the root method. Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks a lot.
Cheers.
If your already s-off then there is no reason to root for you already have. You should be good to go as to flash and stuff. Also stock software gives you no root access, you are going to need to flash a Rom that has su installed such as Viper or CM10.1

Wow. I can't believe I didn't realize realize that. I just flashed the new CM and its running beautifully with root permissions and everything. Thank you very much, I should have remembered that from when I first rooted this thing.
Cheers.

ok so I have a ATT one x phone that I just RUUed to 2.20. I am successfully unlocked and rooted, twrp is installed and I am ready to flash a custom ROM. right now I am S-on.
Can I accept the OTA to 3.18 without consequence? should I S-off and then update? I would like the new firmware and radio and then just flash a custom jellybean ROM, or I can just do it manually afterward.
I have no problem just applying anew ROM but if I can get the newest radio/firmware first it would just save a few steps.
Don't take the OTA, you can't install an OTA on a modified device. Plus, even if it did work it would undo all the work you've done. The best way to update your firmware is via the 3.18 RUU, but you must get s-off first or you'll brick. So get s-off then run the RUU. Don't worry about relocking your bootloader, that isn't required. Once you've run the RUU just flash TWRP again and you'll be good to flash a ROM.

S-off, Unlocked, Stock recovery. Just did the OTA. When it was finished went into SuperSU and am being told that there is no binary installed. Weak Sauce says I'm already rooted but I'm not. Even after OTA I'm still S-off and unlocked. Is this just a matter of flashing a different version of SuperSU over the current one I have installed? Current version of SuperSU I have is 1.94
Just reflash. And if you're s-off'd with SuperSU flashed, you don't need weaksauce anymore.
