Gps gone! Is this android os issue or location? - General Questions and Answers

I'm a proud owner of a Nexus 4 and last time I was trying to find my way from Seattle to Kirkland when all of a sudden I hear my Navigation say ,"GPS signal lost"and I'm thinking,"What? On my Nexus 4." Yeah this isn't the first time it's happened, it has happened quite a few times. I'm beginning to think,"I wonder of this happens on IOS, should I trade my Nexus 4 for an I5?"

If you're rooted, update your modem. If not, try updating your PRL and profile. Not an issue with the phone itself though I wouldn't think.

Persistent Data Connection Problem

So, it's been more than a month now since I have not been able to get a solid 3G connection in my area where there is no 4G. Last time I asked no one was really able to help, so I thought I try again. If I turn on my data, it usually takes a while for it to connect and once it does, it stays connected for about 30 seconds to a minute. Sometimes it's longer, but it always drops eventually. Sometimes it has the 3G icon, but nothing happens still. It's a beezy to try and send or receive a picture message. The only time I ever use Internet now is if I have Wifi. I sent it into Samsung, got it back more than a week later and all they did was take the update the GS3 received while they had it. It seems as though if I'm in a 4G area, the data works fine, but other than that, it's almost nonexistent. Can anyone help me, please?

I don't know what to say bro. Is it just your area? How does your phone do on other areas? If it works in other areas then it's just bad service in your area? How does someone else's phone act around your house. You should compare it to another phone and see if that one loses data.

I have 6 other people in my family and all of them live either in my house or down the street and we're all on Verizon. Their service is fine. I say it has to do with something with the phone.

Idk if I'm thinking of the same thing as what you're talking about, but explain what you mean, please. In settings, correct?

Lame man. My issues were terrible until I switched to synergy. I'm on the he modem now but have had luck with lg1 as well. HD was **** on my phone.
Have you tried any modem swaps? Comparing service on hour Samsung to say a Motorola or an iPhone will make you pull your hair out. I fell into it as well. My wife's iPhone wouldnt drop 3g and my old Motorola got great service in the same spot my s3 would drop signal/go to 1x.
Things really got ****ed up when I went to an area with 4g. Watching my phone, with 4 bars of 4g drop to 3g then to 1x, to no service at all for a few minutes then repeat the process over and over again made me RAGE!

Well, my issue isn't like that when I'm in a 4G area. That's why it doesn't make any sense. The service here is fine, my phone just doesn't like it. I've tried every modem out there so far, and none have helped.

Flashed the new JellyBomb ICS ROM from Inc and now my troubles are finally gone! Idk why it's working on this ROM, but I'm not going to question it. I'm just ecstatic it finally works!

Phone loose signal about 6 times a day

Hi all,
I got my phone 5 days ago and since then, it looses signal about 6 times a day in places where there is full signal.
I used to own Galaxy S2 and never had this issue before.
I'm using the same carrier and living in the same place so the only thing that has changed is the phone.
I was wondering if it's a known issue, if there's a fix or should I RMA this?
Thanks!
Happened to me until the updates. Are you on 4.4 still?
Team Nexus 5 sucks
Nope, as soon as I got the phone it was on 4.4.1 and then upgraded to 4.4.2
Same thing is happening to me, and from what I've Google'd, heaps of others as well.
Hoping 4.4.3 (or whatever they will call the next one) will fix these issues. I switched to a new carrier, to get the Nexus 5 (I could've stayed with my old carrier and got it, but I was unhappy with them). There is so many issues with the Nexus 5 and my new carrier, its not even funny.
I hate it when my phone LOSES the signal.
It still happens to me once or twice a day. Turning on airplane mode for a few seconds fixes my signal.
Team Nexus 5 sucks
Happens to mine constantly. Pos.

With what can I compare it to? The way I was able to recreate this is when switching to 2G from 4G or 3G

Compare your APNS to your network standard APNS. Simply Google that and you should be able to find it. I would Google it for you but I don't know your network.

N5 and sprint network handover

After the latest S5 announcement I'm now ready for the n5. I am coming from S3 on sprint and for the time being I will stay with sprint. My question is...with Samsung s3 if I install a ROM any ROM CM for example the handover between LTE 3g 2g is sluggish I believe its because of some proprioty software (though I am not sure) is this an issue with the n5? Basically is this CDMA/LTE problem or Samsung?

Really nothing
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk now Free
Its a Sprint problem... Depends on the tower... Sprint used different hardware/contractors.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I understand that but the question surrounds the handoff when there is a custom ROM like CM. When using TW its an non issue. So my question is will the handoff be okay with N5 and CM because the N5 doesn't use the propriatory software Samsung does.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk now Free
The short answer is yes...just not as bad..
Here is my experience:
I came from a Samsung galaxy nexus that I had about 4 different Roms loaded on. I could never find a 4.4 ROM that would do a good job on LTE/3g handoffs. My favorite ROM ended up being the Avatar 4.2 ROM.
With the gnex, I would be in a known 4g area but it would show 3g until I would cycle the airplane mode.
When I moved to the Nexus 5 three weeks ago, I was hopeful those issues would be over. Right now I'm rooted with the boot loader unlocked but running the stock ROM.
So. far I've tried 2 custom Roms but keep coming back to stock. I still notice the slow radio handoff but it is less frequent and not as often....but still there.
I hope that helps.
Yes it does ty.

Android 4.4.2

Have a nexus 5 Sony watch wouldn't stay connected...after a phone call to tech support sony does not support anything above 4.3...why BC no sony phones are above 4.3 at the moment....
She said there is an update coming out but didn't know when or even if it would fix the problems....
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
I'm using it with my S3 running omnirom, which is at 4.4.2 so it's not that. There is an update coming but I doubt it would help you in itself. Mine disconnects from time to time, I've found the quickest way to reconnect is to turn Bluetooth off on the watch and back on again, it generally pairs straight away. Hopefully that will be fixed in the new version.

This is just what she said. Mine wouldn't reconnect.... To annoying

I'm running a Nexus 5 and had my SW 2 since December, never had issues with connection, aside from once with a botched custom Kernel. If you're not running stock, try running that, other than that I suggest faulty hardware on the watch's part

My SW2 and Nexus 5 work great together, no connection issues. I've had this combo for 2-3 months now.
Same setup here. Nexus 5 and Android 4.4.2, everything is working great. Have you tried resetting the watch to stock?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Tried 2 different watched.. Bluetooth works fine.. Use Bluetooth headphones to work out with and those never get disconnected.
Reset the watch multiple times.. Would work and then lose connection even though the app still shows connected.. The apps would not communicate with my phone
She did say they were getting a lot of complaints about my issue as well.

^Same here... Sony SW2 with Nexus 5 (4.4.2) and haven't had any issues with bluetooth connectivity. As others mentioned, resetting the watch or unpair and re-pairing would be the first things I would try.
Best of luck... let us know how it goes.
Done that. I should say that I got a pebble and have 0 issues.. Don't know why it was not working,, tried 2 different ones from 2 different stores.. Bc of that sony refused to even send me another.. They pretty much forced me to return it

Try again? Some Sony phones were updated to 4.4.2 today.

no problems with my Butterfly S either, just recently got 4.4.2
i did read about wifi disconnects but i guess that's unrelated

[Q] Poor signal reception

I used to have semi good signal reception with my Nexus 5 at my work, but currently I have No reception and it becomes really annoying.
The only thing that have changed in the last two weeks was the new update of android to 5.0.1 so it was my first guess as the cause of this problem, but after google the issue it seems that the problem was existed even for previous versions.
Any one has any idea?
