[Q] Nexus 7.7 - Worth the wait? - General Questions and Answers

Hey there,
I have been saving for a Nexus 7 tablet, but have now heard rumors that a Nexus 7.7 will be released.
I have tried to gather as much information as possible, but nothing is concrete.
It is scheduled to be released in May at Google's I/O Conference.
Apparently, it has two 720p HD cameras, a front and rear facing, a 7.7 inch display, and a higher PPI (294)
It will be running the new Android, 5.0, Key Lime Pie.
I'm unsure as to whether I should buy a Nexus 7 basically next weekend, or wait until May and grab a 7.7
Do you think they will bring Lime Pie to the current Nexus 7?
Peace,
shandy1996

That depends on what's bringing the 7.7
Why don't you wait for real info?

I have heard rumors that next nexus device will be coming with tegra 4..
It can easily beat snapdragon 800..
And can even play 1080p video with 120fps..so just wait its going to be awesome

Since nividia released tegra 3 ...samsung has released exynos 4 and 5 ...Qualcomm released s4 s4 pro s600 s800...
But nividia was probably working hard for a year and result is tegra 4..
No comparison..
Lets see these r just rumors or anything else..

wait for the next nexus you won't regret it
I was looking at what just recently is coming or came out the xperia z, htc one and galaxy s4. The sad part none of these offer a 7.0 or 7.7 size screen and charge more than double the price of the nexus. I like google's philosophy sell the products half of the same price of a high end smartphone without subsidizing or contracts or locking phones and sell atleast 4x more and allow more of the population to own a high end tablet or smartphone rather than sell a smartphone or tablet at double the price and only capture a margin of the population with the exemption of samsung anything samsung sells makes money. Obviously the new features on the new smartphones that came out recently were 1080p screen quad core processors clocked at 1.5ghz upto 1.7ghz, more storage memory and ram upto 2gigs the camera will be the only lacking feature but you can still do 720p video which is decent. Xperia missed the boat offering a 5inch smartphone and 10inch tablet i was waiting for a 7.0 or 7.7 phablet which is what made google popular in the first place still can be carried around in a coat pocket, same with htc only samsung will come out with a new 7.7 tablet but the prices are insane even more than a smartphone the next nexus may cost $249 wifi only or $300 for mobile capabilities built in will be much more affordable so in other words it's worth the 45day wait til the announcement happens only problem is availability the first place will be california have to shop there or wait another 30 or so days after.

Of course the nexus 7 will get key lime pie

Depends on what you want to do with it. I bought the Nexus 7 2 months ago and I won't buy the next one. This one is just perfect for me, Asus did a great job on it. There's also a big community of devs and it's a good argument.

Current nexus 7 would be enough for me too if it supported miracast...too bad

Galaxy models coming soon (Note, SII LTE, SII LTE HD) shopping poll.

i9000 is currently more than 1 year old, and some may currently be considering their next upgrade/purchase, which model you consider to be the next leading Galaxy phone?
I just bought my Galaxy S, its 1 month old, ill stick with it for another year or so and then upgrade to galaxy s II
Ill stick to my sgs a year more, maybe 1 and a half so maybe galaxy s 3 or 4 or maybe note 2 .

im just gonna wait for s3 now. im on an 18month contract so sorta tied to sgs until next march anyway might as well hold out until s3 is out there then get on at the bleeding edge
I am curious to see what the the HD screen will look like. It will probably be pentile again, will the resolution be high enough to please my eye? Maybe.
Probably won't buy an S2 though, hoping for a beefier GPU in the S3.
Seeing as the SGS2 GPU is not really out-classing the SGS, I wonder how it will cope with the HD resolution. I'm thinking a higher tier of performance (like the huge future gains nvidia is bragging about, or even something like the SGX543MP2 in the ipad2) will be welcome with newer titles at HD resolution.
I'm torn between the Galaxy Note (1.4Ghz) and SII LTE HD (1.5Ghz).
Both with great screen HD resolution, huge sizes, new exynos processor with better battery life, upgraded GPU and other small changes.
SIII is rumoured to have similar specs, maybe a better screen, so don't know if it's actually worth waiting.

Haha, sgs 2 has the best gpu in any android 'device'(not only phones) in the whole world - the mali-400 which is nearly 3 time better than sgs's gpu.

'Similar', I think a more heavier word like ' better ' would have fitted into the line, sgs3 is rumoured to have a 2.0 quad core(4 cores) processor and 1.5gb ram( rumoured by many big tech news sites like engadget.com,thisismynext.com,phonearena.com,gsmarena.com),also a 10mp camera is rumoured at back, and a 5mp ffcamera is rumoured ( just read that in 1 article so the news is not so strong and dependable).
And I don't think 'bigger screen size' means bigger phones, if you compare sgs2 international version and sgs2 hd (korean) version then the latter one has a way bigger screen but if you see the lower button pannel, you will notice the buttons have been made smaller and wider so that the device is still not that big and is still just a notch bigger than original sgs2's 'body size'. ;-)

Hm I remember it not being very impressive in the early benchmarks, barely beating the SGS and losing to tegra2. They did say it could be early drivers though. I'd love to see recent comparisons but nobody seems to be doing them.
Waiting for nexus 3.
Love the ota updates on my nexus one. Galaxy S has been my best device to date though and I'm in no hurry to upgrade.

SII LTE HD. Bigger screen with 720p would be enough to justify a switch, and there is better cpu, camera, more RAM, etc...

Look on Anandtech. The Mali 400 is almost as good as the SGX540, the Tegra2 and the Adreno 220.... combined!
LTE will likely be the catalyst to get a new phone. Aside from the fact that the technology is quicker, there will be less people using it.
And you can't go past a phone with 720p!
Retina display.. psft...

I also miss that option.
I choose first option. Maybe latter collect money and buy Galaxy 3
Ill take my original SGS with my 1650mah Samsung Armani battery (same physical size as stock) over the SGSII.
If the SGSII was the same physical size as the SGS and had better battery, I would buy it in a heartbeat...

Galaxy S III VS Galaxy Note?

Is there really any competition with these phones or does one blow away the other hands down?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Well since we have no idea what the official specs of the SGS3 are we can't really say. All we have is rumors, but some of the thing we can be fairly certain about are the exynos quad processor, a 720p screen, an 8-10MP camera, and a screen size ranging from 4.5-4.8". The main difference will be the processor and the screen size. If you want a hybrid phone/tablet the note will be best, if you are looking for pure performance then the S3 will give you the best results. You can't say one will blow the other one out of the water without solid spec sheets and an idea of what you want in the phone.
I am excited for Thursday. I hope that we don't only hear about the SGS3, but maybe some intel on when the TMobile version of the Note will be released.
I am going for the Note. Buying an international version is not an option for me financially, so it rules out these quad-core processors, which are probably not needed right now anyway.
I am still using a TMobile G2, and it does everything I need it to do. It only has 1 core I am sure at like 800 mhz, though I am overclocking it right now due to the fact that it makes it easier to run. Either way, that processor can't be as nice a the Galaxy Note's dual-core 1.5 ghz processor.
Quad cores are just being used in desktop computers really, so it's no surprise that you shouldn't really NEED it for a phone. I don't know the official technicalities to backup my statement, but it seems common sense.
I will look forward to having the GNote specific applications, S pen, and screen real estate. Can't wait!
S3. Only reason to get Note over GS2 is screen/pen. Not worth it imo.

Not a fair competition at all. S3 should be compared to phones of the same calibre, like the HTC One X.
im sure someone will do a competition of these two phones. Even whitout the S3 full specs we all know who will win.
Quadcore is more than necessary for me
One phone!
HTC Evo Lte dual core s4 which is really fast.. It beats tegra 3 in some tests.

i think the SG S3 will be the same as the Note ( pen included ) but with a 4.6 screen
Each have their pluses and minuses. The GS3 will have the latest and greatest hardware and ICS out if the box, but the Note will have the bigger screen and S-Pen.
But seriously you're considering a phone already 6 months old vs a phone that will just be announced tomorrow. I love my Note and it has worked flawlessly for me, but I know after tomorrow it won't be the best hardware wise compared to the GS3. But that doesn't mean the Note is a slouch at all. The good thing though is I have my work phone with Sprint and my upgrade is June 30, so I may pick up the GS3, so best of both worlds!

IiI can relate to the question I have a gsii and I really lobe the note. I will wait to deer what the new galaxy offers this weekend. I live near the brand new Samsung shop in Westfield next to the Olympic site and they reckon that the should have demo models this Saturday following the event tonight.
I only wish there were a gnote2 being announced. I love the idea of stylus
and big screen.
I have high expectations for GS3. Let's see what they have to offer for us today.
Anyway, I like my GS2 better than Galaxy Note already, so it seams clear to me that GS3 will also be better.
hummm, i like Galaxy S III better.
How do you like HUA WEI Ascend P1
BTW, I'm still waiting for media pad 10 fhd of HUA WEI
There will be quite a big difference according to the specs!
Well we will see at 7pm today
The SGS3 will be more popular than the Note, because the SGS3 is the direct concurrention of the HTC One X, iPhone etcetera.
If a phone gets really popular, you get extra things from the producer, like firmware upgrades etcetera.
Pick SGS3 after 7pm.
PS it is being expected the SGS3 will arive at the stores in approx 7 days
hahaha note vs a quadcore baby doesnt stand a chance find out today at 7:00pm GMT London time
according to leaked specs the s3 will have a 12mp camera a 4412 quadcore processor clocked at 1.5ghz
a mali 400(same as in the s2 just clocked much higher)
a 4.8 inch 720p HD regular RGB matrix not pentile
wireless charging (big maybe wuold be cool but unlikely)
2mp front cam
touchwiz bullcrap on android 4.0.4
a ceramic back

New Nexus Mobile in 2012?

I have been observing Apples new iPhone 5 release date of October and am interested if any of you guys have heard any whispers on a new Nexus Handset on the cards.
I am currently using HOX and am happy to stay with it until a new Nexus Handset comes out.
I personally would love a new HTC Nexus but it seems unlikely.
Thanks for any information in advance you may have.:fingers-crossed:
I'd love to upgrade from my Nexus S. I love this phone but I'd love to swap out the capacitive buttons for on screen ones but I don't feel the need to upgrade to the Nexus Prime.
I might as well wait for the next release. Can't wait!

Heard that also
It is supposed to be around November.
it would seem to be farfetched for HTC to be the manufacturer of the next nexus device..
based from what google has been doing with the nexus lines, it looks like Samsung would be their dedicated manufacturer for the next lineup..
but of course that can change through the course of time..
it would be nice though if HTC would be the manufacturer for the next Nexus device, HTC makes really nice quality built devices (eg. Nexus1 and NOX)
i wonder when will we be seeing the new GNote-2?..
i hope its not gona be a disappointment knowing that the 1st GNote was a huge hit for Samsung.. :fingers-crossed:

Actually critics who bought and used the Galaxy Note 1 said there has been alot of problems and they are skeptical in buying the Galaxy Note 2 since they abandoned the Galaxy Note 1 and jumped over board to release the Galaxy S3. At least that's what I've been seeing lately around here.
what is the next galaxy nexus ??
with the quadcore cpu...
It would be nice to have another Nexus device release this year, though I feel like it won't happen till next year.
I also have Nexus S and I am highly considering getting Galaxy Nexus soon.
If there's a new Nexus device by end of this year, I might just wait and get a discounted priced Galaxy Nexus
personally I don't mind waiting...........
The Galaxy Nexus has been a pleasant experience since day one, I hardly use my iPhone 4S anymore
quad-core processor would only be for bragging rights and I'm past that point in life, lol
In all honesty with modding Im happy with the hardware that the HTC One X offers me at the moment.
My only gripe is the unnecessary S-Off which drives me mad. I wish HTC would listen to the masses and remove it!!
Im keen to see when the new Nexus arrives as I have had them all since the series began and love the "pureness" of Nexus. :fingers-crossed:
really... that should be something
i actually would consider buying it if its priced like the nexus is now. what will it be 350 usd thats ok if it evlolves to qcore... but i mean even chinese chip makers will have qcore in 2013.
i actually have a dual core and its more than enough

If it can offer an 8mp Camera or more with 1.5 to 2 GB of ram, A Quad Processor and a high resolution screen then I would jump in with open arms. I hope that someone other than samsung gets a go as the plastic chassis of the recent Samsung units disappointed me and I found the HTC One X to feel more premium in feel. :good:

Worth the upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus? Pros and cons?

Hi guys. So I have the Nexus S and I'm kind of tempted on buying one of these Galaxy Nexus thingies. My Nexus S is only a year old, and overall it's OK on stock JB, but it can be really annoying. 3D games like Modern Combat 3 are completely unplayable and launcher redraws and system hangups occur quite often with only half a gig of RAM.
What would you do? Stay with the old Nexus and get the next model in a year or get the GNex. Where I live the thing costs roughly 380$. Do you think I could send the NS, if yes, for how much?
Thank you for your thoughts!

The Gnexus isnt exactly a gaming monster either. If you must stick to the nexus brand then I would wait for any upcoming device. The galaxy S2 and HTC one S are better gaming devices.
Also the Gnexus has a terrible speaker which is again going to be something to consider since atleast to me the speaker really matters when gaming.
If money is no object then I would go for galaxy S3.
Stay with your current device.
The only time recommend that device is when you're coming from a phone that is on contract like sprint
It would be like a iPhone 4 user upping to the 4s in August inho
the galaxy nexus isnt that good of a nexus... if you want to stick with the nexus brand wait until the end of this month, google is apparently going to reveal the next nexus in the next 30 days. if you want a gaming device go with something that has a snapdragon s4 or a tegra3... cant go wrong with these devices
The s4 ( current ones/dual core adreno 225) are not good either at gaming. Better then the nexus s and gnex yes. Myself, I wouldn't call it good though.
The new s4 on the other hand is a monster. Due to its next gen GPU.
Related to that. That is what I am looking forward to most about the next nexus. What SOC is in it. Then what screen. Audio chip, battery ,OEM in that basic order.

[Q] Is it futureproof?

So here I am, with a hard time to decide if I should buy the Nexus 5, or wait for next-gen phones. What do you think, how much futureproof is the Nexus 5? In terms of the CPU architecture (Snapdragon 800 is still an ARMv7, next-gen CPUs are likely going to sport the ARMv8), 2gigs of RAM (will it be enough in a year or so?), the battery capacity, etc.
What do you think?
Then next year you'll be asking is the next generation future proof because ARMv9 is around the corner etc etc. Just bite the bullet and get something you want!
Nothing is future proof, there is only the now when dealing with electronics.

let's put it this way
i have a VERIZON galaxy nexus and i'm still able to get 4.4 KitKat on it (unofficially of course).
The Galaxy Nexus was the first phone to have a 720p display and ICS on it.

My Google Nexus 4 is very much futureproof. Even more HW friendlier Android is coming out, it's lag free, super smooth, versatile and without major issues - yet I want the Nexus 5. It just how it goes these days...
Processors have had a big leap forward last year. Meanwhile Android just gets more efficient and less resource hungry. The chipset in N5 will cover at least a year or two and 2 gig Ram is pretty close to overkill no?
In my opinion, the biggest seller next will not be power but more how processors will use less voltage. We are well on the way (Haswell etc)
Battery technology goes slow and takes time. I think OS developers will work more on inventing solutions to save battery within the software itself. Also producers of displays for phones will hopefully develop more battery greedy screens if tech pushes forward.
Future is coming..
Sent with pigeons.
It's about as future proof as a red blood cell.
How can any technology be future proof?
Like almost every tech gadget it's obsolete almost as soon as you've unboxed it as there will always be something newer and better so there's no point waiting for that as it's an endless circle.
The hardware is good, the specs are good and the OS will get updated for the foreseeable future so there's a good life ahead of it.
Everything about the phone looks awesome, but just remember, no matter what you choose to buy or when, there will always be a better and newer phone out within at least 3 months. But, even if something new does come out soon after the Nexus 5, everything that made you love the Nexus 5 is still there. For example, the Snapdragon 800 will always be very fast, even if a newer Snapdragon SOC comes out, it doesn't make the 800 any slower

Google is trying to optimize android to work with less ram which is why they said it should work better on older devices so ram shouldn't be an issue for a while. (Hopefully). I bought the nexus 5 because its the best phone I'll ever get for the price. I've never had high end phone. The best phone I had was a 2011 xperia play which was nice and cool idea but outdated so I'm really excited to get this and don't really care about what's new that will be better since it'll be too expensive lol. That is well said. There is ALWAYS something better just around the corner.
I completely understand the OP's mindset, which basically comes down to wanting to avoid buyer's remorse. Nobody likes getting the cool new toy/gadget/vehicle only to find out some super-duper feature that everyone loves comes out shortly after. It is even harder to judge when it comes to gadgets like phones because of how fast the technology is progressing.
All I can say is that you will not find a better price/performance value than the Nexus 5 right now. The main hardware is pretty cutting edge, it is guaranteed to get fast OS updates for at least 18 months, and hits most of the features that I personally want. That was enough to entice me to upgrade to the Nexus 5 from my Galaxy Nexus, which in turn was the phone that at the time enticed me to finally give up my dumbphone.
Still, every person has different preferences. If you know of certain features you think you just can't live without that the N5 doesn't have, or have a pretty good phone already and want to wait it out a little longer, then go ahead. Just don't wait forever, because the "perfect phone" doesn't exist. There will always be some sort of tradeoff with any decision you make.
When it comes to smart phones, theres no such thing as future proof. There will aways be a better, faster one in a few weeks after you buy the "best" smartphone. Always.

If you buy a gadget tomorrow you will find a new with more power,etc... don´t worry about that and enjoy your Nexus 5
