Cannot edit build.prop - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I am on stock ROM and rooted. I was trying to edit build.prop but after editing does not save changes. Can anyone please help me.
Thanks

That's probably because you don't have system write access with your current kernel

Just checked the krrnel, it says system writable.

Let me reflash the kernel and see what happens.

Still not working

Are you making sure to save it and not just exit?
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2

Yes. I have tried everything. No success. Don't know what happened. Even copied the file to the sd card, changed permission around.

What version Rom, stock ICS or Jb, and what kernel are you using?

HOW are you trying to edit it

I am using root explorer and opening the file. I always use the same method.

I am also having a similar issue. I can save the build.prop file and can see it is updated with new time and date stamp. but when I reboot the phone the file is being replaced by the original file
Using HTC One Dual Sim 802w WWE with 4.4.2
Thanks

Copy the original build.prop to your sd card and edit and save it there. Rename it to build.prop.new then copy it back into /system. Delete the original build.prop (take note of the permissions first) and then rename the edited one from build.prop.new back to build.prop, set the permissions and reboot your phone.

How to install a different kernel?

I am not on 2.2, can I just replace the boot.img in the zip file with the new kernel and flash that from recovery? Or do I need to install the rom as normal, and then installing the kernel from fastboot?
If under 1.14 boot, flash ROM, then I usually boot to make sure its OK then back to recovery an flash kernel zip.

1.11 but either way, gonna try that now.
Just me being careful after multiple failed attempts and almost turning my phone into a nice expensive paperweight, I flash separately.
Boot.img from one .zip
Recovery - install .zip
Then repeat for each one that I want. Getting ready to flash Beastmode v3 kernel and then the cam fix.

My USB cord got ruined. Waiting for new one from amazon any day now lol. But I have faith it'll work no problem. What's the best CPU software? Was gonna use no frills.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
No frills is good.
I'm using kernel tuner as I like being able to force second CPU online.

[Q] JB Sense ROMs not booting for me

I've run multiple versions of CleanROM and also CM10, but anytime I install a Sense based JB ROM (I've tried Newt's, JellyBlam, and a few others), my phone gets stuck on the HTC boot splash, reboots, and enters recovery. I am on HBOOT 1.09 and Ive tried to fastboot flash the boot.img just to be sure, but it still doesn't work? I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, any clue what it is? Thanks in advance.
Are you doing full wipes before flashing?

Tell us what ROM you're trying to install. Also, you're right about the reset. Do all of that in twrp.

And yet it won't work. lol
Maybe you have an init.d folder that is telling the JB ROM to overclock? Could check and delete that first. Otherwise you can double check the md5 of the ROM you're flashing to make sure its not corrupt. Aside from that it might be worthwhile to try a ROM like urdroid which allows you to flash the kernel during the installer.
Dunno man, your problem is a strange one.

Urdroid was another that i tried. It would get to the ROMs boot splash and lock there, but its the only one i recall that even got that far out of the 3 or so that i tried. where would that init.d folder be?
Either the directory of the /sdcard or /. I forget which as I have deleted it. But it should be a folder. Don't delete it if it's by itself.

Really sounds like you are not flashing the boot.img correctly.
Extract the boot.img from the ROM you want to use and install it with:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You're not alone....

I've been experiencing the same problem on my HTC Sensation 4G for the past couple years since I've had it. I have 3 HTC Sensations in my family and I've been playing around with all 3 phones during the last year. On my sister and my mom's phones, I'm able to install any rom (Sense-based...ARHD, Elegencia; and AOSP/AOKP-based...CM10, Paranoid Android, etc); however, on my own phone, after dozens of installs, trying all types of different kernels and roms, I was only able to install AOSP/AOKP-based ones. I've been running Touchcream ICS rom for awhile, then Paranoid Android, and currently JB Samsation V5 on my HTC and I love it. I'm really not missing out on anything, but it's just weird Sense-based roms just wouldn't boot. After some researching on the forum and experimenting with others, I've deducted that the reason could be very well my own hardware. :victory:

[REQ] Stock HTC Boot Animation for ViperXL 3.10

Hi,
I'm requesting if somebody could provide me with a flashable zip to change the boot animation in ViperXL 3.10 back to the original HTC boot animation.
I have already tried to change the files in system/customize/resource folder with root explorer but it doesn't seem to work.
Thanks
Reflash a stock ROM.
Then "adb pull bootanimation.zip /system/media"
/dance
Or download cleanrom or kingcobra either one should have it. And pull the bootanimation.zip from the ROM.
Then "adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media"
Must be in twrp to do so and to push it, the zip must be in your adb folder

[Q] Change CID from 11111111

It seems this question has not been answered.
I am trying to install the following ROM for my HTC One X http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4#post36407155, but it says I need Hboot 1.3 or better.
Well I have 1.14 and the only way to upgrade is to have your CID be HTC_101 or something like that. Mine is 11111111, which is what it should be after I unlocked the bootloader. How do I change it back to HTC_101 or whatever came with my phone?
I can only access the fastboot screen since when I previously tried to install the ROM it didn't work and my phone gets stuck at the white HTC screen and keeps rebooting.
My version is 2.20.502.7. And I can still load into Team Win Recovery v2.4.1.0 if that helps
Thanks
From looking at your post you have the att one x or a one xl that Rom is for the international one x and will brick your phone you want the viper xl Rom in the development section of this forum you need to download it get into recovery mount your sdcard and transfer the Rom over if you are not s-off I would go ahead and fastboot flash the boot.img included in the Rom zip

How do I mound the sdcard to transfer the ROM if I can ONLY access bootloader? I can also access Recovery, which is already installed, but I cannot access the phone's SDCard
This is sticky to the top of this forum section for a reason:

[Q] Enable Direct Carrier Billing ViperXL 3.2.8

hello everyone i am having an issue i recently came back to Viper XL build 3.2.8 and for some reason i am not able to use Carrier Billing in the Play Store, so my questions are; Is anyone else having this issue, is there a fix for this issue whether it be reinstalling to editing the build.prop, or is there a tweak somewhere that i am overlooking? any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Here's my build.prop for viper 3.2.8 the only thing diff between this and the build.prop that comes with the viper Rom is the added lines that enable in carrier billing for at&t. http://db.tt/HYQqTGxz

Just copy and paste in system and it should over write the one you have or better yet just rename the build.prop already in system too build.prop.bak just in case something screwy happens and you have the orginal to fall back on. Im using viper as well and it hasn't interfered with anything yet. I've been running this build.prop for almost 2 days no problem
