[Q] 4.1 ROMs / Kernels for Xoom - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried all the 4.2 ROMs I know of (CM 10.1, EOS 4, ORCA 2). CM won't boot on my Xoom, EOS and ORCA stutter and are just miserable to use.
So I am back to running CM 10.0. I like it but I am not in love with it. I've also tried EOS 3.0. I like the kernel better, but I prefer CM to EOS overall. Are there any other 4.1 based ROMs out there, or are there any other kernels for CM 10 aside from the one which comes with CM? I'd like to run the lagfree or SmartassX (or is it Smartass2) governor.
If anyone has links to other ROMs / Kernels which are 4.1 / CM 10.0 that would be much appreciated.

Maybe try Dreamcwli's My Android, its 4.2 but it is the fastest ROM for me
4.2 also has 2 custom kernels available, Shield kernel and ElementalX. Both are good.
ElementalX has a CM compatible version now. Shield is AOSP only
So you could try all the roms again with the new kernel

Sadly ExperimentalX does not work for me at all. I never get past the boot animation screen. I've tried the regular version on EOS4, and the CM version on CM 10.1. Actually, I can never ever get 10.1 to come up even with stock kernel. I will give My Android 4.2 a try, but with my lack of luck with CM 10.1, ORCA and EOS4 I honestly am not holding out any hope for My Android to work.
I am not sure what the issue is with my XOOM and what 4.2 items are out there right now. My XOOM was one of the very first as I got it when they hit the street, so perhaps there is slightly older / less stable hardware (i.e. cannot support GPU OC) which causes issues with 4.2.

[Q] Anyone using an older Kernel on ICS ROM and have stability ?

I keep flashing and flashing kernels.
Air
Matrix
Steve Garon
Trinity
Franco
etc
etc
Does anyone use an older dated kernel of any of these on any ICS ROMS and have such stability and good battery life that they are unwilling to upgrade to anything else ?
If so, what is your combination and setup ?
Thanks
Griff
airkernel 3.0 is what I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21935053&postcount=1 its been good to me

I'm quite happy with the stock CM9 kernel. What ROM are you using? Have you tried sticking with it's stock kernel? There's generally a reason the ROM dev chooses the kernel they do.
I have had good results with CM9's stock kernel and the Air kernel for ICS. I had instability with matr1x and trinity.
Im using franco's 1.1 and while it's very bare bones (no bln/bld/voodoo/oc etc) the kernel performs amazingly well and I couldn't be more pleased. I got tired of reboots with other kernels and haven't suffered even a single one yet.

[Q] Looking for fast roms! Stock clocks!

Hey! Im currently running Jellybean-Hydro 4.1 rom with stock clocks. Feels very snappy after tweaking out a bit
What are the fastest CM-Based rom's at the moment?
I remember i really liked the Baked Blackbean rom on ICS, but the latest ported Blackbean-6 werent as snappy as Jellybean-Hydro rom what i am currently using.
I have randomly tried different JB roms but im really interested in CM roms
So go on and suggest me some good roms to flash!
Thanks!
there are only 3 out there basing on CM. In my opinion the best is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989984
But best Roms out so far are the Clean Rom 2.,5 for the TF700 with clemsyns Kernel (you can choose it during installation)

[Q] Which rom with good battery vs performance

Which roms would you recommend for the TF300T, at this point I've been using Baked BB-8, but I think there is a lot of times where it lags from wake-up, and the battery life could be better.
I've looked at AOSPA Paranoid Android (4.2.2), CleanRom Inheritance 4.1 (4.2.1), AOKP 4.2.2, etc.
But which to choose...?

Depends on if you want stock-based or custom, if stock I say go for CRI 3.4 (Or 4.1 if you're on the 4.2.1 bootloader), if you want custom definately go for AOSPA, I'm using AOSPA right now flashed with the perfs kernel, and I have to say it's one of the smoothest custom roms I've used, especially with the custimizability to it and the tablet UI, you can't go wrong! But in the end it's all about preference.

I've tried every single one of them, in my opinion assuming you are on the 4.1.1 bootloader, the best stock ROM is BlueAndroid v3.0 Surdu's kernel is smooth and full of options, now AOSP based I was on CM10.1 and it was great, then I tried Paranoid 3.15 and it was also laggy from wake up, so I changed to BB-8 with Perf. Kernel because of all the options and I have to say it's running super awesome, I have it Overclocked to 1.5ghz and it's great. You should try Perf kernel if you haven't it performs very well, I use no frills cpu from the market.

cromi all the way for me but i like stock based

Installing Stock Kernals

I've unlocked the 4.1.1 JB bootloader and proceded to flash cm10.1
I'm under the belief that the stock kernel is out of date and I'm looking for a kernel update. Some hints in the right direction would be very helpful.

As far as I know, CM10.1 is not compatible with ASUS stock kernels. CM10.1 runs on it's own Cyanogenmod base kernel. So your choices for alternative TF300T cm10.1 kernels are:
1. Perf Kernel based on Franco by chrmhoffmann: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182956
2. Unofficial CM10.1 by surdu with his own modified CM10.1 based kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2112369
I would recommend using the Perf Kernel based on Franco by chrmhoffmann, if you're on official cm10.1.
Oh okay thanks for the help! For some reason during the portait mode on my tablet it have a lot of lagg issues. do you think you have a solution?

So far, I haven't encountered lag issues exclusive to portrait mode. I have used CM10.1 nightly up to April 13. Then, I switched to unofficial AOKP and CM10.1 by surdu. But, due to quick battery draining issue with surdu unofficial AOKP, I went back to stock ASUS rom for a while. And, finally decided to try CROMI 4.3 and am now on CROMI 4.4.1, which are based on ASUS stock ROM and kernels.
I can't say I have seen lag issues on portrait mode during my switching of kernels and ROM. My guess is that your lag issue might be caused by a particular app or some combination of apps.
When tinkering around with GMT gesture control, with the status bars off the portrait lag disappeared. I'm not sure what the cause is :/.
I've ran the Perf kernel with CM10.1 plus the Franco app. It's a great combination. Just make sure you turn the speed down when you don't need it or it will eat up your battery pretty quick.

more for cm10.2 does perf kenel still work?
No, perf kernel is not working anymore. Hasn't for a while.
I have been able to get some stock based kernels modified for CM10.1, one of them has overclocking abilities too. As for CM10.2, right now you are out of luck, as builds for it are still so new.
Sbdags has O/C kernels that work with CROMI, but those are all stock based.

Ya sucks I was happy with perfect and cm10.1 but of course cm force me to update as it wasn't supporting new 4.1 bootloader anymore. I figured if I was going to do it I'd go big. IL just wait it out. Cm 10.2 is running OK with exception of gas issue.
