Hi,
I was staring at my wireless orb this afternoon while day dreaming my girlfriend. A question hit my head hard. How do you clean this thing? Since it picks up the dust pretty quick? Can you use water?
Thanks in advanced!
I personally use a damp paper towel or napkin, and found that it works the best. Don't try to dry it with a paper towel, it'll just make it more dusty!
Glass cleaner? Etc..
Wash hands, dry on towel, wipe the orb on the towel. Cleans it right off..

I have a question of my own as well. How does daydreaming about your girlfriend lead to cleaning your wireless orb? I would like to know more about the contents of this daydream of yours. :cyclops:
Maybe its about rubbing one off?
J/K
I use a damp cloth and wipe it off, make sure the cloth is not full of lint.
The best way to clean it is with tape or lint brush
Sent from my Nexus 7
A turkish towel dampened with warm water.
Ive usually just put a little water on my finger and ran it around the inner ring.
I put a clean sock on my hand inside out, wet the inner sole area with a little water and press down on the orb and twist in a circular motion... comes out spotless every time.
Thanks for all the replies..
Lint roller work like a charm....

Whenever I see dust starting to stick, I just use tape. Works every time.

Exactly! I use a microfiber cloth everyday and use LCD/Plasma cleaning spray when it gets real dirty.
Warning! Cleaning solutions used for LCD screens are not confirmed safe for your device!

ya, even then, i dont think i would ever use any type of "chemical" that isnt water
DO NOT USE CLEANING SOLUTIONS.
This phone has an oleophobic coating on it, unlike LCD/Plasma TV's. Unless someone does a study on the effect of cleaning solutions on that coating, I wouldn't risk messing it up with a cleaner.
Here's how I clean my screen. You have a clean microfiber cloth, which is good. I start by going over the screen in circular motions, using medium pressure (I'm not a buff guy, so use lighter pressure if you are). Then i gently blow on the screen to very slightly fog it up, and immediately go over it again with circular motions. Switching between clockwise/anticlockwise helps. If any spots are left, I go over them with slightly harder pressure, but never in a scraping motion ... just circular buffing.
Note that the cloth used for cleaning needs to actually absorb the oils, so maybe yours isn't in such great shape and is just smearing the oils around (hence the rainbow effect).
Since there have been so many threads on this, someone should go out and make a tutorial video on cleaning your screen
Are y'all playing in the mud or something?
I have had no problems wiping the screen the few times it has had a print or two on it...

okay.... so... im about to buy a microfiber cloth as you all suggested! YAY!
Get a good microfiber cloth. I personally love Fossil's (the watch company). I use it for my glasses mostly.
Hold the phone with your left hand, cover it with the microfiber cloth, use the bottom of your palm on top of the screen, wipe like crazy in every direction for 2-3 seconds, you're done.
LOL. You can wipe it anyway you want, no particular way, just wipe. It's fine.
+1 on Micro Fibre.
How often do you guys change your microfiber cloth? Mine's getting a bit grimy from constant use and dust. Is it even washable? I'm using one that came with my Ipod Touch.

This is quoted from Autogeek.net http://www.autogeek.net/mi101.html
Wash your microfiber in the washing machine with detergent only. Tumble them dry on low heat or no heat. High heat will literally melt the fibers while fabric softener and bleach will eliminate the electric charge that makes microfiber so effective. Avoid those three laundry habits, and your microfiber will last indefinitely.
I've got some HDTV cleaning spray...is it okay to use on the tablet? I already have a couple times....not sure if the TF has any coating on the glass that I need to worry about.
The screen gets squeaky clean...and takes some using to feel sick again...probably from the oil on the fingers.
There is no coating on the glass.

I just windex on my tablet, just spay a paper towel or microfiber towel with a few squirts and wipe it down.
I use Windex, vinegar and water, Rain-X, or anything that's handy.
i found a pack of these at walmart on sale for about $7 or so...

little disposable lense cleaning wipes with some kind of water and cleaning solution on them. They're in individual packets so i can carry one or two with me in the transformer's case.
I use a bottle of wax and dry and a microfiber cloth. I just spray it lightly over the screen, then buff it out with the cloth. It makes my fingers just glide across the screen with ease. Also helps prevent fingerprints from building up. Been doing this for years with all of my touch screen devices with no issues at all.
I got sick of paying $8+ for cleaning sprays, so I just took one of the empty bottles and put half water and half rubbing alcohol. Works GREAT! Especially after my 4 y/o nephew puts his boogers all over it!

I wouldn't recommend windex on any touchscreen, it leaves a thin residue which after a while will affect the touch sensitivity.
cleaning
I use a nice soft lint free cloth and give it 2 to 3 sprays of general purpose window (errr no not that ms window!!) cleaner .....
put the cloth in a sealable bag and it lasts for months....
the 500ml bottle should last about 250 years.......
I read this article a couple of weeks ago on LifeHacker, they also say 50/50 mix of distilled water and white vinegar, but I didn't try it yet.
isn't vinegar acid based? won't this harm the device screen?

I also get this response whenever I mention it to my geeky friends . I figured more people did this.
I have been using turtle wax and dry on my transformer since I got it in August. I clean the screen with the wax about 2 or 3 times per week. I also clean the keyboard dock with the wax; I love the smooth feel the wax gives. Also used the wax on all of my devices in the past (iPod touch 1st gen, 2nd gen, 4th gen, Droid X, and my wife's iPhone 4). The only issue I have ever had is that the wax makes the screen a bit more glossy.
Try it out. You can always remove the wax with a bit of isopropyl.

So I finally broke down and ordered a white digitizer after scratching the original one and banging up the bezel pretty good. I did all the work in my kitchen and used surgical gloves to keep the digitizer and LCD as clean as possible but no matter how hard I try I cant get the thing together without a couple specs of dust between the LCD and digitizer.
So to those who have replaced there digitizer on this phone or anyother.. is it impossible to reassemble the phone without ANY dust short of doing it in a clean room or am I just doing it wrong?
When I took my iPhones apart I would always wear gloves and always have a can of compressed air next to me. That and a microfiber cloth that you use to clean glasses with.
Just be very careful.
Yeeeah.. Had a cloth and wore gloves but didnt think about the air. I guess Ill take it apart again and give it a couple bursts to see if that helps. Thanks.
Id say use an ionizing air gun, but then again, at 450$ and up...not really cost effective lol.
Tips that may or may not work.
Clean the glass and apply the screen in a room with more humidity to reduce the amount of dust in the air. The more still the air, the better.
After cleaning, use a fabric softener sheet that has already been used in your laundry, and rub it all over the parts of the electronics that you don’t want dust attracted to. Instead of attracting dust, the electronics will repel dust!
now there's a creative approach. guess I'm doing laundry tomorrow lol
Post a pic. Been pondering on the white diggitizer but not sure if it looks better than black

ill post one when I get home. never buying another black phone again
btw, took the phone back apart and used some compressed air before fitting the lcd back into the digitizer. I was able to get it together with only few specs of dust that are only visible when the screen is off and I. the sun. this I can live with but I'm going to give it one more try to get it 100% dust free. I like the way the lcd fits into digitizer because dust cant creep in once they're fitted together.
Try doing this outside, maybe in your house balcony or something. A house has like 1000 times more dust particles than outdoors.
I think you'll have better luck doing this outdoor.
Spray room freshener or run warm water in bathroom and steam should knock of particle apply within.

I'll swing by the hardware store and pick some up tomorrow appreciate all the input. Broke my heart a little bit to see dust starting to creep in after i finally managed to get the phone back together without a single speck.
Hopefully I'll only have to disassemble one more time. Least a soldering iron wont be involved like during my Vibrant days
long story short, my husband dropped my phone and corner hit the pavement. still working but the corner is slightly gapping. i tried to snap it close it but it won't close. i am afraid to leave it like it is because water might seep in. any idea what tools i need to snap.this thing together again?

My recommendation would be a nice, tight TPU case. Failing that, I've never had problems with the tinest of tiny drops of crazy glue when repairing old phones, but I'll defer to others if someone's actually used a tool to rebuild a case.

I'd never advocate introducing crazy glue to phones, but if you get the gelatinous kind and use the tiniest of tiny amounts on a thumbtack, wipe off any excess with a little piece of paper towel right away and either tape it together tightly or hold it in place for 5 minutes or so, you can make it look like nothing's happened.
But again, introducing crazy glue to your phone can potentially do a lot more harm than good, and may well look like crap. If you do it, any ill effects are your own fault, not mine. If it works, it'll hold forever and look great. Always the potential that it doesn't, though...
thanks. i only have one option for case since i am using qcell ext batt

So here's a weird one for you.
I have a Nexus 5 in white and have noticed some dye transfer from my jeans pocket to the back of the phone. Now the majority of it has removed with a wet finger and tissue, but some still remains, very faintly, in a small patch at the bottom.
My question is: how do I remove this dye? It's a bit too specific for Google to answer, and I can't exactly let the phone soak in a liquid.
I'm in UK by the way, so American stores and products will be out of my reach.
Buy better jeans?
What about damp cloth, carefully wiping?

An eraser? Like them JML/Flash things? Sponge type things?
I'd try to warm up some high % isopropyl alcohol and use a sponge to wipe it off. It's good at cleaning and will evaporate quickly without leaving behind a residue.

Yeah, I have dealt with what is known as "dye transfer" on my creme leather seats in my M6 & on a few other items since I prefer dark jeans. You can use one of the stain treatments like Oxyclean Max Force, or a good leather cleaner, & make sure to use a micro-fiber cloth. The cloth is important because other clothes can actually lightly pit or scuff the surface, making it impossible to remove the dye.
At any rate, the Oxy usually works, but ocasionally I have to go to the heavy stuff, Lexol.
If you have already used a pencil eraser (bad idea) or a harsh chemical, then you may be out of luck. If that's the case, try one of the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers as a last resort.
You could buy brand new back piece on ebay

With the white model baking soda should probably be fine but I would use caution because baking and vinegar can become caustic possibly causing peeling on the finish.

I would use just enough baking soda for it to have a bit of grit so it can scrub the dye... But first try cleaning with just vinegar and if that isn't enough then add a little soda.
