Hi All
Just a quick question (I hope)
Would like to try CM10.1 Kang
Just successfully s-off , rooted, 4ext recovery, unlocked and did my first rom
I have supercid
Reading post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 it seems i can use any firmware from that page so will use Universal 3.32
Is the correct order
Flash firmware
Flash rom
Flash gapps
Can I do all of this with 4ext or will flashing the firmware wipe 4ext?
Cheers

Installing new FW will not overwrite the recovery, don't worry about it.

And yes, that is the correct order of doing everything, but before installing the ROM you have to wipe your phone's memory. You can do that in 4ext, by going on the "wipe" options, and selecting to wipe all partitions except for SD Card, and you're settled.
Don't forget to make a backup.
Also, this is a question and therefore should be posted in the Q&A section .
Hi, with firmware 3.33 Universal it's good
As long as you have 3.32 or 3.33 firmware you are good. Either one will run CM10.1

SO I'm planning to flash the Elegancia ROM with Sense 4.0 included (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429953). I've never done this before, and I'm on stock ICS, rooted and HTCDev Unlocked. It says in the directions that you need to flash first the Firmware Package posted by Mike. Do I need to do this, since I'm already on 3.32 ICS?
It also says, that The second requirement is to have EXT4 recovery to enjoy the interactive installation. I am using Clockwork, so I assume I will have to change from Clockwork to EXT4 Recovery?
Thank you

Yeah as you are on stock ics you already got the ics required firmware i.e. 3.32
I recommend you to have 4EXT as the latest one has smartflash mode.. which is pretty helpful in flashing SON devices..
Just go to this thread.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377759.and get the 4EXT recovery updater apk..and install the latest one (1.0.0.5) ..through an app.
Just don't forget to say "yes" when asked whether you are SON...which enables smartflash during installation.
Then you can install any ROM just by flashing through recovery.. (follow OP thread on how to flash Rom to have a proper working of the Rom)
sent from my blazing fast pyramid through sonic waves
You dont need to flash firmware because you have already.
Flashing 4EXT recovery touch will replace your current recovery.
Download in PG58IMG format from HERE

okay my friend told me that i need to install a custom recovery after i flash a new firmware. but everything i am reading about 3.32 says that i only need to flash new firmware. delete the img file off root and flash new rom. Is the custom recovery already unlocked? am i going to need to use ADB to install the new rom or 4ext? thanks for your feed back

You will not have to flash a new recovery after flashing the new firmware Mac... but I do think that when you go the flash a new custom rom from here I would wipe the phone (ie) super wipe or use the builtin one in 4ext under (wipe and format) use wipe everything but SDcard.....
Thank you for the help and patience. Much abliged.

no problem, just one thing, if you have super wipe only use it with sense roms not AOSP roms, and if you are using any of the new sense 4 roms like OrDroid or Insertcoin that is builtin the rom when you install too, just read everything very carefully because of the installer (ie) Aroma installler.....
doing some reading here and there I would like to try a couple other ROMs, if only for s&g's.
Can I have different ROM.zips on the SD (provided there is room) and flash one or another to try them out?
Or do I have to remove one for another?

Hi,
You can keep as many ROMS on your sd card as there is room.
Make sure you have a nandroid backup of a good ROM,so you can always restore your phone to a working condition.
Use the wipe/format all partitions (except sd card) before any new installation.
thanks malybru.
whats nandroid? What is 4 EXT? I've seen that mentioned a lot as well?
I used PG58IMG for Recovery.
I assume I'm done with that?
Just load a ROM.zip onto the SD and flash w/HBOOT?
I assume I will have to reload gapps.zip each time or might Play sync work and reload my previous apps?

nandroid is a backup of your rom in case when you are using or flashing something in your device and maybe has bad results.
then from recovery you can restore your nandroid to revert your device to its previous condition.
4ext is a recovery that many of us is using it.if you have installed cwm recovery i suggest to install 4ext.it's better
rom always is flashing from recovery
I assume that ROM manager would allow me to make a "nandroid"?
Yes I did use cwm recovery. Whats makes 4EXT a better choice?

Hi,
4EXT can be installed using THIS TOOL
Look in 4EXT for a section called backup and restore.
Are you s-off or s-on?
I would not bother with ROM Manager.
Gapps will need to be reloaded if you do a full wipe of your previous CM ROM

Yes, you can have as any as can fit on the card. Remember to wipe clean if you go to another ROM.
S-Off
I'll look at 4ext. Will it replace PG58IMG automatically or do I need to remove that?
Related, I can't find the Fastboot switch under Settings in the CM9 ROM.
Do I know longer need to think about that? Or is it somewhere else?

Hi,
If you run the 4EXT,it will overwrite CWM.
There is no fastboot switch in CM
Thanks again,
doing the nandroid b.u now, then onto 4ext.
I was using the default ICS browser with CM9. It lacked easy access to bookmarks.
The "quick" labs functioned intermittently, other wise I'd have used them to access bookmarks.
I tried ICS Browser+ and that just crashed repeatedly.
Might any of this change with 4ext and another ROM choice? Right now I'm steering towards ARHD/ICS.
Or are there better (the only thing I'd like is easy access to the short list of bookmarks I had from GB).
And is there a Fastboot option in 4ext or will I still be beyond that?
I assume to flash both 4ext and a new ROM I need to turn on USB debugging?

Hi,
You get different browsers with different ROMS.
You can also install one of your choice from the market.
Fastboot option appears in Sense ROMS.
USB debugging is in all ROMS.
If you flash ARHD,it will install 4EXT for you as part of the installation.
Are you going from GB to ICS?
Are you s-off?
You will need to update your firmware for that.

Hi,
Firmware will be OK ,then.
malybru,
I have dl'd the Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_Sensation.zip.
Back up my current ROM.
gapps.zip is still on my SD.
At this point do I drop the .zip on the SD and reboot recovery (4ext touch) and flash the new ROM and that's it?
Or do I need to wipe the davlik + cache, or wipe data factory reset, or format system or what?

Hi,
Don't use arhd superwipe.
If you have 4 ext, then, format all partitions(except sd card)
Back up your ROM first.
Drop the new ROM onto your sd card, and flash it from recovery.
You only need gapps if you use cm.
Most ROM threads tel u what u need to do if you're installing from a different ROM. superwipe is only needed of you' re going to ARHD.

OK. I dl'd ARHD 1.2.2 T-Mobile.zip
There is some other info on the ARHD thread page here.
"3.33.401.x firmware is required!" I guess based on what you've written above, that isn't a concern for me.
" HTC Sensation 4G (U.S. T-Mobile PG5810000 | T-MOB010) users can flash this for better signal and data speeds!" Concern or wait to see what I get after flashing?

Hi,
3.33 firmware is not crucial. But it does have the latest radio
ARHD will work fine on 3.32
Flash first and see how your signal works.
Although,I believe the T-MOB add-on does work well.
how do I check what firmware I have?
4ext doesn't say.
Revolutionary shows the radio 11.23.3504.07_M2
HBOOT is 1.27.1100.
ICS 4.04

Hey guys I just wanna to check and make sure I'm doing everything right before I flash cause I don't need anymore paperweights
1.I have successfully unlocked my bootloader and installed twrp recovery and rooted.
2. Now I want to back up my entire setup: rom, apps, setting, data, everything so that if I ever want to return to stock then I can. I have booted into twrp and ran backup and selected all options. Is that how you perform a nandroid backup in twrp or is there more to it?
3. I want to install team venom viper xl rom. Do I have to first flash boot.img first or is the kernel the same in stock and viper xl so that isn't necessary? Do I have to do I factory reset first or what?
I'm still new to this stuff so please bear with me. Thank for all your help!!

Different kernel. it is using the 2.41 RUU. So go ahead and flash the boot.img
Here's what you should do for any new ROM with a different kernel.
Wipe System
Factory Reset
Flash boot.img
Flash the ROM
flash gapps (if AOSP based)
reboot and have fun
When doing a nandroid backup, it is only necessary to backup
System
Data
Boot
Ok thanks for your response but I'm still a little confused. First did I back up my current rom properly so that I can return to it later on? Secondly does viper and boot img have to be flashed or can they be installed from sdcard via twrp? If they have to be flashed whats the fastboot command.?

You backed up fine, it just takes up a little more space.
You have to extract the boot.img from the ROM and put it in the same folder as fastboot.exe
open command prompt, and navigate to the folder fasboot.exe is in and do the following command
fasboot flash boot boot.img
If it gets stuck at waiting for device, reboot into your bootloader, boot into fastboot from there. and then try again.

Viper is the Rom u flash it from twrp it's. azip file that's fkashable so make it easy and flash viper there and than flash the boot IMG from fastboot the command is all over the forums I thinks it fastnoot flash boot.img
don't be confused. read.
you always have to flash boot.img in fastboot "fastboot flash boot boot.img" then flash the zip in twrp make sure to wipe, and don't download international roms. you still have to flash the boot.img from your backed up rom.
like a hundred threads asking the same stuff because no one wants to read

I'm sorry but I did read. I saw that if you have the same kernel as that of the rom you're flashing you don't have to flash boot.img. So I asked to see if stock and viper have the same kernel. I don't want to flash anything that will brick my phone.
Now one more question if you don't mind answering. I also saw that you can't downgrade RUU. So if viper is based on 2.41 RUU and stock is 2.20 RUU then will I be able to go stock after flashing viper?
I really do appreciate yalls help. i would be where I am if it weren't for you.

Yes. Just wipe you system and do a factory reset , and flash the boot.IMG for 2.20 and then flash the Rom.
If you want true stock 2.20 then you will have to relock your bootloader and then run the 2.20 RUU. You would only want to do this if making a warranty claim or something. If you want stock rooted, then yes, do what I said above

Ok got it. I do appreciate your help. Flashing now.
downgrading only refers to the ruu not the zipped roms. so you can't run 1.85 ruu after running 2.20 ruu/ota but you can still flash a rom based on 1.85.
if you are reflashing the same rom you don't have to reflash boot.img but if you are flashing a new rom then you need to flash boot.img. 7-zip will tell you the crc32 of files so you see tell if it's a different checksum.
Viper Xl's great. Seems to be slightly slower than stock on some task, but the lack of bloatware, and the extensive customization is worth it. Haven't found any bugs or nothing so far. If anyones familiar with viperxl though what is the last app in the app drawer? Its got a chinese name? When it loads it says Dolby Surround but all the writing is in chinese?

edit- Works now after another reinstall installed boot image first this time.
I am HTCDev unlocked and I am runnin ViperS 1.41 is there anyway to flash Faux kernel? I tried the Viper-application and it didn't work.
I remember something with Hboot but I don't know where to get the kernel img.
If you are already using ViperS rom you should be able to flash Faux kernel from your recovery. Just download the kernel you want to flash, place it on your sd card, go to 4ext recovery (make sure smartflash is on) and just flash it. I assume (correct me if I'm wrong) along with "smartflash", the faux kernel will flash the boot.img automatically. Ohh and before you do anything make nandroid backup, so if it is not working then you will be able to restore your rom!
Well it didn't work and I can't restore from backups nor install new roms, it just bootloops all the time, I have tried to format all partitions (except sd card) with 4EXT tried with and without smartflash.. sigh.
A fresh start could help. If you are htcdev unlocked, s-on, 4ext recovery installed and you follow THIS guide, you will be able to install roms. If it doesn't boot up after you enabled smartflash in 4ext then do step "extra1" from that guide
Well in the HBoot it says that I am unlocked, but it's worth giving a try, I am pretty sure that you know better than I do,
I redid everything; First HTCDev unlock, flash recovery and then try to flash a new rom. It didn't work so now I will try to do a RUU.
Just enable smartflash and flash the kernel that will do for you
Now as you are SON you should always make sure that smartflash is enabled all the time..whatever you are flashing

Not to be offensive or anythign, but it's kinda hard to flash a kernel when I am stock in a bootloop. I'm downloading the RUU right now and I hope that it fixes it.
I have tried flashing, wiping, smartflashing etc. on Bruce's and ViperS (both 1.35 and 1.41) and also flash from backups. Everything have just bootlooped.
I don't get what you mean on "hard to flash a kernel when I am stock in a bootloop". You don't need to power up your rom to flash a kernel. You go into recovery, enable smartflash, choose the zip file from the sd card and that's it. Also try another kernel and see if that works. I recommend Overclocked Kernel v1.5.2 by SebastianFM as well. I am using that on stock sense rom and it works very well. If you flash a rom and you follow everything word by word in the thread was linked to you then it must work. If you still have issues, then try to post in that thread and someone will help you there.
No I don't need a rom to flash a kernel, but I need to be able to flash a rom, and apparently something went wrong (I don't know what). If you read my prior posts you'd understand what I mean. I couldn't flash any roms (and both ViperS and Bruce have a built into the rom kernel), so I were forced to get a RUU (The XE RUU is hard to find) and do everything from the very start (not just do step one).

You got me wrong mate. Under do step "extra1" I mean do step EXTRA1. There is a step called Extra1 in the thread I linked before. That explains how to flash boot.img manually.
