[Q] How do you switch to edge on Lumia 810? - Nokia Lumia 820

I am trying to switch from 4g to edge on the lumia 810 but there is no option in settings to do this. Can it be done?
On my Lumia 710 i used the secret code ##3282# to do this but it does not work on the lumia 810.

On an EU 820 its settings/Mobile network/Highest connection speed but no doubt yours is much different

I found it. Its entering ##3282 in the dialer and click call button. Then select three little (...) dots at bottom on the next screen. Click on "settings." Click "network type"
Toggle ENS to off to get choice to stick.

Now that's clever, I never could get the settings to stay put before on my old Titan.

Only 2G network. Disable 3/4G

Sometimes while the battery is low, I like to put the phone into 2G mode also known as edge and get off the 4G network. I remember my myTouch had this with cyanogen and really any other asop Rom also had it.
How do we enable it on a device running sense? Or this phone for this case.
Thanks

It should be under the Mobile Network sub menu.. it's not ASOP or Cyanogen exclusive.
The option doesn't exist for us on our ROM. I like that feature too. Here is a workaround. Go into your dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* and a menu will pop up. Go to Phone Information and you'll see a drop down that shows WCDMA Preferred as the default. Go into the drop down menu and choose GSM Only. It will cycle the radio off and then back on and then you will have Edge only. Alternatively if you select WCDMA Only, you will only ever have 4G. This is useful if you live in an area that is right on the cusp on 2G/4G. Our phones will drop to Edge if the Edge signal is stronger than the HSPA signal. Sometimes this is annoying since you could still have 4G speed if the phone didn't automatically switch to Edge.
Also, I don't remember who the dev is, but there is an app in the Market called Network. This app allows you to go right into that phone info menu mentioned above without needing to put that code into the dialer. It can be hard to find since there are so many search results if you search for "network" in the Market. If you are interested I will look up the devs name for you and you can find it that way. Hope this helps.
Edit: The person above is correct actually, I didn't see it before but you can choose WCDMA/GSM Auto, GSM Only or WCDMA Only from that Mobile Network submenu in the Wireless & Networks menu in your standard settings menu. Thank you for pointing that out.

Putting 2g only on kills battery faster....harder for stuff to sync faster ...phone stays awake longer. Google put out a whole video on YouTube about it.

wow, totally forgot to try this trick at work. My phone sits there with a full strength 2G signal, but the bars lie, it's very unreliable and cripplingly slow (much slower than edge is capable of). Now I have a 1-2 bar 4G signal and am getting very acceptable speeds. 1.8Mbps down 1.3Mbps up (FCC mobile broadband test, 3 tests averaged).
I just wanted to add that I hunted around for widgets to provide a quick toggle for this function, whether that be forcing GSM as some need to do, or forcing WCDMA as others need to. My search turned up a few like EasySwitch but it seems that none of them work with gingerbread.
No need for the special code...
You can find that here too:

Best option is menu>settings>power>"enable power efficiency"
The S series, and Sensation, use less power in 3G mode than in 2G mode. RTFM.

Keeping it on disk space may use more battery charge, but it helps preserve my 2GB 4G data cap. It seems like a reasonable trade-off for me. Does anyone know if the "Data Used" number shown under the "My Account" app is accurate?

it should be under the pulldown notifications bar? or at least I think I remember seeing an option for it on CM9/AOKP. itll have your list of toggles and should have "2G" listed as well. havent tried it out tho cuz Im on Sense now, and if I ever have EDGE data, I usually just connect to WiFi (lol only at my house, service sucks)

Switch to 3G - save battery?

Hi -
The battery on my Skyrocket is draining so fast (and I do not browse internet, do not play games and sometimes do not even make any phone calls!)
So I have been looking for ways to save battery-
I found one idea: LTE & 4G uses more battery than 3G/GSM, and since my phone is usually on LTE or 4G- why not switch it to 3G?
*#*#4636#*#*
Phone Information
Scroll down
uncheck GSM/CDMA/4G/LTE
check WCDMA only
So this should switch the phone to 3G - but for some reason it doesn't (in the phone status it still shows that the phone is using LTE- although LTE doesn't show in top bar)
I wonder, should I also put something in "SMSC" field after I change to "WCDMA only"?
Something else drain your battety. I dont think its problem in network.

If you add the option in Settings.apk, it'll force it to stick onto one network, since it'll turn off the MIMO antenna, which kills LTE.

Slight problem: This doesn't work. That very same thread reveals that the phone will just override whatever you choose.
even though your not in a lte area, it isnt searching for the signal. Proven from other members already. So dont worry about it. If your not using data, just turn off mobile data for now.
I even tried to make the APN that a lot of people are having luck with, but where I live there is constantly an LTE signal so it got it anyways even with the HSPA+ APN I made for some reason. My battery life is bad with LTE but the speed is amazing.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
I'm trying to set the HSPA-only APN on my phone, since my phone keeps trying extra hard to get on the little LTE it can find here, and it's MURDERING my battery.
Seems AT&T locked the APN's, too. I can't select anything other than the default AT&T profile.
I think you guys could try the patch to convert to Rogers Version in dev section... (root required)
not sure if you guys could flash a Rogers RUU or not (s-off required)
at least ATT stock rom, its hard to disable LTE...
Made a new APN with the exact same settings as the default but with APN Type set to *. Speeds are about the same as my gsii.
Nvm, that didn't work. Ill have to go back to the wap.cingular settings.
Try editing the build.prop and changing the ro.telephony.default_network setting to 0. The default value set by AT&T should've been 9, indicating that the device should connect to LTE > WCDMA > GSM networks in that order. Setting it to 0 reconfigures the device to prefer WCDMA networks over GSM and LTE networks.
The changed setting should read: ro.telephony.default_network=0

Reboot, and you should be on HSPA+.

If you do not live in an LTE area then there is no reason to disable LTE on the phone. AT&T uses an integrated "circuit switched fallback" on the radio which defaults to UMTS/HSPA(+) when not in an LTE area.
The only people who would benefit from an LTE "on/off" switch would be people who do live in an LTE area so that they can disable it when not using the phone for simple sync procedures.

I live in a really annoying place in NJ where it is constantly switching between LTE (1 bar) and HSPA+ (4 bars). I can literally watch my battery drain. And I can barely use data since its constantly switching back and forth.
After some searching, I found that you can go to the APN settings, create a new profile, change the "Name" to whatever (I chose AT&T HSPA+) and change the "APN" field to "phone" without quotation marks.
Leave everything else defaulted to the normal values.
Then save the APN and go back to the APN screen and click on the little white radio button on the right of the APN you created (be sure to click on the radio button, not the whole bar).
Reboot. I just did this today so I will see how it affects my battery life.
Build.prop is the Only Correct Method

^This.
Changing the apn will make your data slower, but not alter your radio's behavior. Changing the build.prop will keep your radio from looking for anything else once it finds a WCDMA (UMTS, 3G) connection.
Note that you need to find and change all occurrences of ro.telephony.default_network to 0. The build.prop on AT&T RUUs includes it multiple times with different values.

I was able to dial the following:

P.S. The reply in, I believe, post 2 said to dial a number similar to that noted above, but some characters were reversed.

P.S. My heading isn't quite accurate. I was running AT&T v1.85, but now it's CleanROM v2.1; although, it's still based on an AT&T RUU.

[Q] XT1045 won't connect to LTE

I picked up an XT1045 (Moto G LTE USA) recently from Amazon and had T-Mobile ship me a new micro-SIM, then called them to activate it. I know there are LTE towers around (had customer support tell me as much) but I never see "LTE" in the status bar, always "H" or "H+". Granted, download speeds in San Jose on HSPA+ are pretty fast, but I am wondering if I'm missing something fairly obvious. I have the default LTE APN selected.
I did unlock the phone using the Motorola site and rooted it. Could this interfere with LTE operation somehow ?

Which APN are you using. You should be on fast.tmobile.com
I have the similar setup (xt1045,unlocked bootloader, rooter, stock 4.4.3 and stock kernel) and don't have any issues. It did take a few hours after first boot. I am in a refarmed area however. Mine defaulted to the lte/fast apn.
a few things:
- tmobo indoors isn't great in all places, so try outside
- if you're on wifi, they downgrade to hspa/3g to save battery, you may not see lte until you get off wifi
- you may be over your monthly 4g cap
to be honest, their hspa+ speeds are same as lte out here anyways

Even if you are over your monthly cap, you still connect to LTE. It just lowers your speeds.
Thanks all for the info. I'm using the T-Mobile APN that came with the phone (fast.t-mobile.com), wifi off, have tried indoors/outdoors.
I'm pretty sure I'm not over my data cap -- my previous phone was a Nexus S and my data usage habits haven't really changed yet
It is a much snappier phone and the HSPA+ and wifi and GPS really are much nicer. I like having the microSD slot too. So I can't really complain too much.

Never saw 'Phone information' come up. I'm assuming this would be the same as changing 'bearer' in the APN setting to 'LTE' instead of unspecified (tried that already, it just seems to get no data at all then) ?
Have not had airplane mode on for these tests.

So when you dial *#*#4636*#*# , what is the first menu on the top?
It's not the same, cos if you set it there, it allows of 3G connections if no LTE available (dunno if you force it from Settings -> More.. -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> LTE ).
The Airoplane mode is just to "relog" to the carrier network , you just cycle through it On->Off

Apparently doesn't work on this phone. It's ok, google led me to a couple of apps which appear to do something similar. Thanks for the insight !
Finally got the "LTE" indicator while outside eating lunch near work today. I was amazed that the speedtest.net app reported ~30Mbps down / 20 up. Didn't have to mess with the default T-mobile LTE APN. I guess T-mobile's coverage is just kind of spotty, but maybe the nearby tower was just upgraded or something like that

Samsung Galaxy Edge NETWORK DROP *FIX*RESOLVED*

I have managed to resolve huge problem regarding Galaxy Note Edge (all variants, except CDMA) and Note 4 (all variants, except CDMA) signal drop! You have to have fully working Note Edge/Note 4 and have signal. Not working unless you dont have signal!
I have bought NEW Note Edge 10 days ago and realized 2nd day that I have problem with network drop. Then I started to resolve problem because I saw how many people have the same problem regarding network drop! And here is the result of 5 days of testing and working on resolving.
1. Fully charge Edge/Note4
2. Turn off and take battery out (wait about 5min)
3. Turn it back on and leave it for 2-3min for system to get all perimeters.
Now comes the main part...
4. Type in "PHONE Keypad" *#0011#
5. Press three dots in right/up corner and pres back.
6. Type in "Key Input" Q0000 and wait (until main menu comes up)
7. Select UE SETTINGS & INFO
8. Select SETTINGS
9. Then PROTOCOL
10. Select AS
11. Select FREQUENCY LOCK
12. And RESET
The phone will then ask you to restart. Restart it and when system comes back again wait 2-3 mins for system to fully load.
AGAIN do from 1 - 10
13. Select RELEASE VERSION
14. Select WCDMA RRC VERSION
15. Select R7 (HSPA+)
JOB DONE!!!
I haven't got for 3 days signal drop. Also this only work in 3G ONLY (WCDMA ONLY). Not working in 2G!
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU CAN MAKE FOR YOU PHONE. DO NOT ENTER TO SETTING YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND BECAUSE THESE SETTING ARE HIDDEN FOR REASON
And YES,you can buy me a beer if you wish :laugh::laugh:
I haven't had any "signal drop" issues but I can tell you that the db do not match the bar display properly and will show 1-3 bar difference from what it should. For instance I noticed when I purchased the phone it showed 1-2 bars less (depending on if I held it or not) than the Nexus 6. But that issue is simply a miscalculation when adjusting the bars to display the proper db region especially when changing from 4 bars to 6 manually in the rom.
I fixed my issue with Wanam Exposed (must be rooted) and manually set the setting to display 6 bars; even though it already displays 6 bars it will readjust it to display the proper signal strength. Now my phone shows 3 bars of signal instead of one. Keep in mind not much of those settings will change too much. The network will set automatically and has no dependence on the device so I'm not sure what you did really changed anything. Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure its all dependent on the tower settings not phone.
Thanks for this info...I have had signal loss several times myself....

You should then go to where you bought your device and service it or get Edge replaced.
Problem is I traded my iPhone 6 plus for it. I trade a lot because I'm a phone junky and don't have money to buy a new phone every time I want to try a new one. I did take it to sprint and have the service center look at it since I have insurance. They just gave me some bull crap about towers being worked on so they didn't have to replace it.
I'm thinking about taking it back but they have to take it and look at it for an hour before they will do anything about it. Last time I sat an hour just to be told about the towers
