[Q] Enhanced user experience? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I stumbled across the update info page for the Note 10.1 on Samsung's site. This page describes what's new with the Jellybean update. In the last section entitled Enhanced User Experience, it lists this feature:
http://www.samsung.com/us/article/galaxy-note-10-1-update
Internet: Slide your thumb from the left or right edge to zoom in and out.
I can't seem to activate this feature. The only way I can zoom on a web page is to double tap or pinch and zoom. Anybody get this working?

Hello... Anybody out there w/ the answer?

I'm still stumped as to why this is not working for me. Thanks in advance for your time.

Using the stock web browser, go to the settings menu. Then select "labs". There is an option their to enable a feature that sounds like what you're talking about. It looks like the Pie feature in paranoid android.

Thanks for the reply but I knew about the Internet "Labs" setting. From the description on the website there should be an option to quickly zoom a web page with either thumb. Well, it's not that important.

Help, how do you use the stock browser?!?!

It's kind of silly but maybe you guys can explain to me how to operate it.
Sometimes when I just want to scroll it will do just that.
Sometimes when I want to scroll it scrolls and shows the url bar which is annoying.
The most annoying is when I just want to scroll and the url bar shows up accompanied by 4 bigass tabs on the bottom.
I'm sure there may be settings for these? But despite that I cannot explain why it has a mind of its own of what it wants to display when I decide to touch the screen.
Ps. How do you guys pull up the url bar without having to scroll? This design seems silly to me!

the URL bar and "4 bigass tabs on the bottom" show up when you scroll all the way up and hit the very top of the page.
i wasn't impressed by the stock browser, either. i switched to ICS Browser +, and i highly recommend it for everyone. it is much better and more customizable.
Easy. Go to the Play Store, search for "Chrome," and download that.
Seriously, the default browser sucks.

Thanks for the recommendation. One problem with ics browser + is that it has a slight delay when I want to scroll the page. Is that normal?
The url bar and 4 buttons show up when you scroll up. They don't show up when scrolling down which is the natural way to go if you're reading something.
I actually like this a lot. If I want to open up a new tab or switch or go to a bookmark I just have to scroll up and the options are there. Much better than clicking menu and going from there.
As others have said if you don't like this you can make another browser your default. Opera, Firefox, chrome are all decent alternatives.

[Q] Browsers pet peeve.

Why do browsers developers in Android make the title bar scrollable with the actual page?
This means that the input box disappears once we start scrolling down and that one has to scroll all the way back to the top to input a new web address.
I checked the settings in both the stock browser and Dolphin, to no avail...Am I missing something?

Try ICS Browser + It is basically the stock browser with some extras, and It has a setting to show the navigation bar using 'short fling down'. It's the browser I seem to keep coming back to.

Probably to provide more screen space. You can use Firefox/Firefox Beta/Aurora if you like. Aurora is the only one with Flash support for tablets, but it's buggy support (expect crashes). Otherwise I like Beta and Aurora.

Don't have to scroll to the top at all, just touch the tab and it will bring up the input bar wherever in the page you are.

Excellent suggestion! :good:
Love the ability to auto-switch to full screen once the page is loaded and the possibility of enabling "side sliding" control pads.

Can I open two broswers at once with split screen?

Hi,
With the Note 10.1, can I open up two browsers at once with the split screen function? My best buy doesnt have a demo unit, and would like to know. Thanks in advance.

Just tried it. Looks like the answer is no.
Nope, You can only have one browser and one other selected app i. e. polaris office, video player, email,S-note or gallery. You may be able to use a pop up browser avaiable on google Play and use this as a second browser.
Edit:
l have just tried my suggestion above and can confirm that it is possible by installing a third party pop up browser. The one I am using is called "Onskreen Browser", I have attached a screenshot that shows two browsers and the S-pen app loaded side by side.
Thanks. That will be a good work around.
This is interesting and can be very useful!

Here is a question regarding this?
Does one of the browsers have to be the stock browser to get it to split screen?
Also if you have a the note app open and some other app that supports split, then you open chrome and firefox in separate windows, can you make one of those windows go on one side of the screen and the other window on the other side?
I am work and my note is waiting for me at home, so after work I will have it.

The split screen will only work with the Samsung apps that have been designed to work in split screen mode, the stock browser is the one that Samsung have enabled which means the chrome browser unfortunately will not work in this way. The pop up browser works similar to the pop up video player where it runs on top of all other apps.
I hope the dev team will have a work around with this.
The split screen will be very powerful will two browsers opened at once, and trading tool platform.

ya i know that it works only with samsung apps, but I am still unclear about the 2nd question I asked. Let's I say have the note app and the stock browser open one on each split screen. Can I then open up another browser on top of it via a window on each side of the split?

Unless its how I have demonstrated it on my screenshot then at present the answer is no, a developer or Samsung's developers may incorporate it in the future.

Cool so technically you could have 2 different browser open on different sides of the split screen as long as you have 2 apps that support split screen open

Yep exactly, in fact this is how I had it but wanted to show that you can have a third app so I made the pop up browser smaller .
Split Browser
Great discussion!
Both Note 10.1 tablet and Note 2 phone, which support split screen don't allow you to open the same browser app on either sides. You can open the stock browser in one side and Chrome on the other side. However you won't be able to open links from one app into the other half or share bookmarks... etc. They will function as two separate apps.
At Appestry we developed Split Browser to overcome these issues. Here are some of its unique features:
Open links and bookmarks from one half into the other half and/or in a new tab.
Resize the two browser halves by dragging the yellow divider line (just like in Note)
Watch videos in full view within each half.
Start new tabs and switch them between the two halves.
Copy the current page over to the other half.
Press and hold back/forward arrows to view history and jump to a page in the list.
... and a whole lot more.
Search for "Split Browser" in Google Play. There is a 5 minute trial version and a paid full version.
Hope y'all find it useful. Please contact us if you have any questions or feedback for improvements!

Thank you for trying it out. I agree, 5 minutes fly fast. However, you can reopen the app as many times you as want and continue to evaluate other features. We want users to make sure all the features work in their device before they upgrade. Please let us know if there is a particular feature you'd like to see in the app. We're working on adding more new features so stay tuned.
I love my Samsung Note II, way faster than my Note 1. Can't wait to test on the new S4. We're working to add Split Browser to the suite of Samsung's split screen apps.
Cheers!
I have 4 different web browsers installed in my GN10.
And I use Multi Window Manager too.
I can open all 4 browsers at the same time

Dolphin V11 downgrade

Dolphin Browser V11
I've used this for years as it was the only browser design which understood the notion that the only thing in a browser you need quick access to is your bookmarks and the easier and faster you can get there the better. Dolphin was the only browser where you could do a quick lazy swipe to view all your bookmarks, and swipe back quickly if you'd changed your mind. They've also remove right swipe to get easy access to pluggins.
No, I hear you say, this must be a joke, surely they wouldn't the only option which set themselves apart from all other browsers, possibly the best feature of any browser out there?
add your thoughts to this:
https://www.facebook.com/DolphinFans/posts/661023360617620
Yup, they've employed Steve Balmer...
I got V10.3 from http://www.androiddrawer.com/, not sure if that was the last version before 11, but it is good enough for now. Word to the wise, export your bookmarks BEFORE you uninstall V11. If anyone has a version history of Dolphin for Android, or a higher numbered version 10 Dolphin browser for Android, speak up. Reminds me of how Opera ruined their Mini browser years ago when they went from V4 to V5 and adopted a "unity" (barf) type gui..... tears of sadness...
best i could find was 10.2x - still looking.
http://dl.game-keren.com/march_2014/Dolphin Browser v10.2.8.apk
EDIT: Found it now same place you did.
Agree. V11 is a usability downgrade.
The quick left swipe for bookmarks was the selling point for me. This feature is very helpful for more recent mobiles with big screen.. now they made it into 2 steps which kinda kill the point.
The floating 'circle' for menus..that I hated as well as I often accidentally touch it..but I could still live with that. Now they removed the left-swipe bookmarks. OK ..Chrome it is for now unfortunately!
swipe
Definitely want to see both left and right swipe functions reinstated
agree with OP quick access has gone

I may be alone in this, but the only reason I want to downgrade was because of how you type in URLs now. With V10 you could type at full speed and hit enter, but now you have to carefully do one letter at a time and trying to type at full speed is a waste of time. Switched to Chrome and after messing with a few hidden settings, it's now as fast, if not faster than Dolphin ever was.
I agree with you the new broswer got messed up. For some reason the dev did update which no one like it and made it complicated hopefully we will get more update soon
sent from s4
just found out you can jump straight to your bookmarks by clicking on the URL bar, isnt as elegant as a swipe but is you have invested in Dolphin and done want to move to another browser its a decent enough workaround. Still no easy access to addons I can see though. Numpty Developers should be sacked !
hopefully if enough of us hammer this they change it back.
https://www.facebook.com/DolphinFans/posts/661023360617620
V11 is such a downgrade.
What I liked about the old bookmark bar was it let you get there without having to look. Now you have to look and aim for the specific location to get to bookmark.
Left & right side bars, shiny shake, desktop toggle, and gesture button at corner were all I needed. Now they've made each and every one of them worse. I can't believe their designers didn't even realize what made their browser special...
U know thats what I was thinking atleast they should have read comments. But must admit dolphin browser is one of the best browser just not the v11. Hope we will get all this back on next version

[Samsung Internet] URL Bar to the bottom?

Hey Community, hope this will be a beautiful day for us.
My question is, is it possible to move the URL Bar to the bottom of the browser like it can be done with chrome?
Or is there any hidden feature menu as it is in e.g. Firefox with about:config?
Thanks for any suggestions
Nope.
And now ?

I don't understand why nobody likes the adressbar at the bottom. For me it's just innovative and ergonomic.. Hope they will change this

If you want to access the menus for devs similar to those in Chrome Browser. (chrome://urls/) You can type "internet://urls/" (without quotations!!!). There aren't a lot of Flags in the ,internet://flags/, webpage. To use debug settings. Similar to Chrome Browser, type "internet://debug/", you'll get a crash page then just tap the overflow menu (top-right) >Debug settings.
