Can not attach files to web page - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I am going to try to explain this issue, but basically I am not able to attach/upload files to websites. I am using Chrome browser and Astro or CM file manager to choose the file, it was originally saved on the SD card but I have also copied it to the local system folder /downloads and from either location I get an error message "failed to open file" after selecting the file. I have verified that the file is not corrupt and have saved it as .txt .doc and .docx formats each one produces the same results. Has anyone else running The CM nightlies come across this issue?
**update** Just flashed the 315 nightly for CM and it still is not working, anyone else experience issues uploading to websites?

Yes, its happened on past phones also..... Find a different file.
Try astro file manager and under its settings select allow unknown browser downloads or something similar.
Yeah, that happened to me too... you have to use a different web browser other than the default one

[Q] Has this happened to anyone else?

i switched roms acouple times today and this has happened one other time.
All my video files not the folders or subtitles or anything just the video files themselves have been deleted.
Using brilliant corners and bottle o smoke and bam they are gone...
all you have to do is make a no media file. basically make a new text doc on your computer and just save it as ".nomedia" You do not have to write anything in the file. This will tell the tablet not to delete any files out of this folder. put this file in every folder that has media items. I hope this helps.
Hmmm...I've never had that happen to me, but thanks for the tip fosser2
It's a known issue and easily fixed with the .nomedia file. Beware though that windows won't let you create such a file. I think most android file managers will allow you to create a file and rename it ".nomedia".

You can easily make this file form windows. Right-click on any explorer window and choose New>Text file. Then just rename it to .nomedia instead of NewTextDocument.txt or whatever the default is.
Scratch that. Windows says "type a file name" or something. Just use notepad++ as someone else mentioned...

Where is the .zip file I downloaded?

Hello, I have downloaded a zip file through IE. Where I can find it ?
Thank you
There isnt a specific place... each app has its own isolated storage where it keeps their files.
You should be able to open that ZIP file from the browser and it will show you the files within... if they are recognised file types by WP7, it will let you run them.
But that's it, you have no file manager you can goto and fetch that saved file.
PS: well, you have... but I'm unsure if TouchXplorer is still working or not.
Thanks for this, but how can i delete it if I can't find it? I use the TouchXplorer...
I am concerning about the phone memory.
Generally, files downloaded through IE are stored in temporary memory and will be erased after a certain amount of time.
I ran into the same problem today. luckily i hit the windows button so all I have to do is hit the back button to reach the zip file again. Kind of frustrating when you dont have a file explorer and no other way to reach the file you just downloaded

[Q] Can't open / download attached zip file in Gmail

I received an email yesterday with a Zip file attached, the GMail client wouldn't let me download & stated that there was no viewer to View it.
I have File Expert installed which will open & decompress zip files (over and above any native OS support for zips) but this is not offered as a choice.
I would have thought that there should be an option to download the file even if there is no way of opening it, is there a configuration somewhere ?
Kind of essential, I get a lot of zipped files in emails.

Search the market for "Download All Files" from HwkRbbt Software. It works great and allows saving of EVERYTHING.

Thanks, I'll give that a go.
try androzip from the market, unzips anything, and is a brilliant file manager as well
I am having trouble with this as well. My zip files show up in GMail with a 'INFO' box that when I tap onto it prompts me with a window saying that there is no application found to view it.
I have tried a few file managers already, including ASTRO (Which I own) plus the suggestions above. I take this for granted on my Droid X already...Any ideas?
I've had the same issue on both my phones and my tablet. No file manager or download manager has ever helped, including down droid, download all files, and ASTRO file manager, any other ideas? Thanks, sharf

Files downloaded in .bin format

When I attempt to download an .mp3, . PDF, .doc (pretty any file) in chrome browser or Android Browser they download in .bin format. The weird thing those is they will still open in the correct program (PDF opens in reader, mp3 opens in music app, etc).
Is anyone else experiencing this same issue?

Yes I am having the same thing, but im running a transformer pad tf300t. I find sometimes it works by long pressing and saying save link as, but other times not. Any help would be appreciated
What are the sizes of the files you've downloaded? If they are the actual files, just with a wrong extension, you could always rename the extension in a file browser and check. As far as the reason, ..not much help there.

try downloading it with Chrome browser,
I had the same problem downloading .nzb files with the stock browser, with chrome it was ok
All you have to do is rename it from bin to whatever it is you downloaded. Example, downloaded an mp3 but the file is in .bin, just rename it to (song name).mp3
When I attempt to download an PDF or doc file from any facebook page they are being download in .bin format. The weird thing is that if i try to rename the file name to pdf or doc while downloading it is not helping at all. Any kind of help is appreciated
I have this issue in miui 12 in chrome...not sure what's wrong
